I love how they gave that one jeager a pair of lightsabers, saw it cut once and realized that that's stupid OP and that they could end the fight by themselves, so they didn't let em use em again and instead resorted to kicking for the rest of the fight.

Before looking at the actual timestamp, I knew you were referring to that scene, because I also noticed it. And it's not the only one. There are many more scenes where the laws of physics are destroyed, instead of the buildings and ground. For example 3:07.
This movie is so stupid it actually cause me pain, intelectually. And full of cliches just for the cool factor.

The reasoning behind it is that the orange one, Athena or something, was made on with really light materials in order to be faster and sleeker. But that still doesn't explain how a few hundred ton mech couldn't put a hole in a building

Oh because you like and appreciate a sense of realism in your movies about giant robots battling giant lizards. And what exactly do giant make believe giant mechs "move and feel" like? It's almost as if the whole thing is made up and "realism" is open to interpretation, because it's all, you know, FICTIONAL.
i agree the first one actually felt real and was pretty interesting to watching. the only problem with 2nd one is they dint go for the same feel like the first, The mechs dint feel mighty and strong instead they looked like powe rangers

I thought Saber Athena's fast movement made sense, since it was designed with speed and agility in mind, but every other Jaeger (especially Bracer Pheonix) feels way to quick for their size.
scrapper, sabre athena, and november ajax are the only jaegers here that move correctly based on how they are built. wiki says sabre is built with lighter materials and have more flexible joints.

Saber Athena is lightweight and has faster torque engines than the others making her the fastest
One thing I've noticed is that the cockpits in this movie just feel like rooms that the pilots are standing in. Versus the original where they actually looked like the place where you control a massive robot with attachments for your arms and you had your legs hooked up to these mechanisms that would churn and move the robot. These look like VR setups in Ready Player One.

Very nice analysis. Guillermo Del Toro in an interview said that he wanted the cockpits in Pacific Rim 1 to not be a comfortable or nice place. He wanted the environment within the cockpit to be almost hostile with all the mechanics, pistons, steam, hot air, and sparks. To really emphasize that controlling a Jaegar is hard work and dangerous.
The 2nd movie threw all that away. Like you said it's a VR simulator now. Even the pilot suits have been streamlined. They aren't protective metal survival suits anymore. They look like paintball pads and they got rid of the fully enclosed helmet with the glass face. It's just open now.
second movie the Jaegers feel like power rangers.

評価できる所はやっぱりCGとロボットのデザインだけだった。(でも前のロボットの方が好キッス!)それと戦うシーンが怪獣よりロボットvsロボットの方が多いとかこれもうわかんねぇな...(ロボットの中身は怪獣の脳ミソみたいな感じだったけど)以上が自分のパシフィック・リム アップライジングの感想です。出来れば話しあいたいですが都合が悪ければやめておきます。でも大丈夫なら、至急連絡くれや☆
I did watch this movie when it came out. It only just hit me though the sheer amount of destruction the mechs are causing to their own cities. In the first film, sure some losses were going to happen in a fight. The mechs never went out of their way to outright destroy buildings though.

Here’s the only compliment I will give this movie, it had interesting ideas. I love the idea of evil Jaegers and the combiner Kaju. However, what it truly needed was a better storyline and a better structure. I do agree that I miss the weight not being there like it was in the original and maybe some of the characters weren’t as good. But I still have hope in the future that it will be fixed or something. Who knows.

First movie: 3 armed crimson typhoon shaulin fighting robot with 3 users, Gypsy danger, Eureka the enhanced version of Gypsy danger, Cherno alpha a punching russian robot with piston hands. Even though their color scheme was less obvious I still remember them far betyer than I do any of those from the sequel

You know I've watched this movive multiple times, and what I've always found so strange is there are brief moments where both Kaiju and Jaeger feel accurately weighty... and then in almost the next scene they won't. It almost feels like two different crews were editing the GFX scenes.
The kaiju was like 10 meters away in 4:47, and it teleported to 100 meters in 4:52 lol

I love how in the first movie the Jaegars tried not to destroy the city while fighting the monsters but in this they just don’t care and bring down buildings on the monsters. I actually thought this was cool and made the fight scenes entertaining.

Why is no one talking about how the visuals in this movie are way too bright and clean? In the original, the visuals were amazing. It was night time for most fights and so the lights and weapons of the Jaegers were really striking. The kaijus glistened. Here, it’s way too simple and clean.
Pilots: We have to save the city!
Also pilot's: pulls down numerous buildings on a kaiju even tho it's clearly not effective in the least
They weren't saving the city, if you never watched the movie, don't talk trash cause they were saving the world, cause would you rather care about the city the most and let the kaijus reach Mt. Fuji and end the entire planet, OR use the buildings as an advantage to beat the kaijus?

I love how they tried to copy the scenario of the first movie were there were 4 Jaegers left as humanity’s last hope which was epic af it gave you a sense of holy shit this is it it’s do or die once more unto the breach feeling while in here they could’ve deployed more than 4 to neutralize the threat. This “sequel” will never measure up to the first one. Imo a prequel would’ve been so much better seeing the first few years of the war and the Mark 1-4 Jaegers battling it out.

One thing I can commend the movie for is showing the "personalities" for lack of a better word of the Kaiju as they enter the city and show Raijin as he trips and almost falls, shows Raijin and Strikethorn talking to each other, and even somewhat displaying pain of the Kaijus as their bodies got torn apart and fused unwillingly
I can also forgive the Jaegers destroying the city while trying to save it because they were all young teens and kids still in training and focused more on the monsters themselves. And keep in mind one single city vs the entire world being wiped out by the monsters, take your pick.
I say this while also acknowledging this movie is definitely a downgrade from the first.
And Jake should really be more skilled but he did leave the ppdc so his training wasn't finished
