How interesting would it be if the Djinn was manipulative but relied on the greed of people for his power, not just setting up dumb scenarios but instead just working with the desires of those around him?

The Djinn as a concept being let loose in the prison system on paper is a cool concept using the same rules as the first movie. But this movie just didn't do it.
Well imagine Geoffrey Rush as Hector Barbossa in Pirates of Caribbiean at Worlds End explaining how he managed to come back to the world of the living, it would ruin the movie. Unfortunately that's what they decided to do here.
Watch it again. This movie is absolutely hilarious, it’s like one of the funniest horror movies ever made. Divoff’s acting is A+
I do have a continuity question - how does the police explain the guy being killed by being pushed through the jail bars by a powerful invisible force? They had to have security cameras in and around the cell, they had to have reviewed it back and witnessed the guy being pressed with force through the metal bars until his death without anyone touching him while Wishmaster is just standing there, maniacally grinning as he watches it occur, seemingly loving it...did they just call a spade a spade and sweep that one under the rug?
@@joshgardner112 I agree! On a whim I decided to revisit Wishmaster 1 & 2 and I had a blast watching these. I wasn't disappointed one bit. Must admit, in a certain light/angle throughout most of the 2 Morgana looks like Halsey and now I can't unsee it yo

The cigarettes were thrown in to convince the other guy it was a more normal deal like he was used to, not just because he wanted a pack of cigarettes.
Actually, the cigarettes were thrown in because in real life it became illegal to pedal smokes to children the same way they used to, so instead the tobacco companies began investing in movies in exchange for having the characters in the movie smoke and mention cigarettes as often as possible. That's my bet. ;)
LOL, in the shower jump scene, I expected Djinn to also lick the glass and breathe heavily against it.

I remember seeing this on that double movie set with the first one back when I was ten. Even then I could tell it was pretty much bullshit. Innocent little me thought the lawyer shit his pants so hard he died. XD
It wasn't just the guard that got two wishes in the first movie, the shop assistant did too. She wished for cash and then youth. Also the MC's boss wished first for the jug to be worth more then for a million dollars. The rule about one wish wasn't in the first film, it was introduced in this one... then also ignored in this one.

When I first viewed this film years ago, I thought "Hey, it's directed by the guy who did The Hidden, a well thought out sci-fi/horror film". After viewing this film, I was like "What happened to you, Jack Sholder ???" He's now a professor at a college.
Because this sequel starred the original actor for the Djinn, I didn't think it was that terrible. The two that followed this, though......

What I would have done( besides change every goddam thing in this movie).......when she wished 'I wish that security guard was alive again' he should have woken up in his coffin underground full of decay and maggots .....that would have been horrific 😁 this movie really was a wasted opportunity. 😧

27:15 well, the Djinn first says "Here's the man", reference to Pontius Pilate's sentence "Ecce homo"; the priest is also an "alter Christus" in the Roman Catholic Church, hence why he was placed on a cross. The Djinn is making fun of his faith, for he allowed himself to be placed in that situation.
The family would not be freaked out at the security guard coming back to life. They are just happy to have him back.
Technically, the CASINO wished for them to have the best of luck...not the Manager. Demerest even specifically specified this loophole.

I don't think the wish on behalf of the casino counted and those people died because they wished to win that's why he went there everyone was making wishes. That's why the dginn repeated it because it annoyed him that he couldn't touch the guy yet

I mostly agree what you said in this video, I cant believe they fucked up the djinn and the rules for the wishes this badly. It also doesn't help that most of the characters are unlikable assholes

I really don't want to defend this movie but technically the term 'freeze" can mean "to become frozen" or "the act of freezing something" A freezer freezes water.

You gotta applaud that right out the gate the movie tells you it won't adhere to it's predecessor and the writer is a hack.The only more efficient way they could have done that was a title card saying, "Get out now!"

that then implies though that you could get infinite wishes by saying things like "the cat wishe" or "the door wishes" and just have wishes as a proxy for every object, not to mention if it worked like that for soul getting why not do the simple thing of find somebody working for a charity, get them to wish everybody would not be hungry BAM he has every single soul on the planet.
Making it so vague just adds in plot holes that then make the Djin look even dumber as he just took the really long winded way of doing things

Well, all Abrahamic religions technically have the same god. It would be cool if we got a Muslim main character, but in that aspect it wouldn't be necessary to the "plot". The god she's praying to is the same as the one called Allah.

I was going to point that out. I think he still technically has a point though as I'm pretty sure Christian/ Catholic/ whatever the hell the movie was showing doesn't have jinn in it.
I kind of wonder what the thought process behind brining religion into the movie was anyway.
Andrew is so good in this role it's hard not to enjoy the movie just for him. It's technically a bad movie but he makes it worth the watch.
My question is why they had the stereotypical priest in a horror movie when an Imam would have made much more sense for a movie involving a Jinn. It also would have been less weird to consider him being the devil at any point even if it would have been stupid to try and pull that

Every time I saw that scene with the prison guard I had always hoped there would be a dancing scene.
Anytime the topic comes up re: why the djinn isn't a more prolific horror character, I mention how the ball got dropped for part 2 and then kicked and fumbled oafishly around for an additional 2 sequels. There was certainly Nightmare on Elm Street / Freddy potential for the character but instead the djinn is lucky to get brought up well after Leprechaun gets a mention.
OK, the casino wishes everyone the best of luck. The Dude said that he wishes this nightmare to end. Different entities making different wishes.
a casino doesnt have a soul no currency for the wish, so either its a plot hole or the djinn is just stupid.
Ya know, there's something to the idea of being wished out of existence.
Imagine if this movie was about the girl being manipulated by her boyfriend, and the Djinn, into making wishes, and at the end when she realizes just how crazy things are, she wishes that her boyfriend had never been born. Or that they'd never met. Sure, it would re-use the paradox ending of the original, but it could have been a more interesting story than this.

I just caught this and it's fantastic. If you listen close, when the prisoner asks if the Djinn is tripping (9:46), it's very quiet but you can hear the Djinn repeat Yes immediately after he's asked that. Pretty funny.
I mean with the "alive again" as the Djinn is meant to fuck about with wishes, you'd think it would cut to the guard waking up in his coffin screaming, and her realising she wasn't pure as she'd just condemned him to die slowly in darkness. That's what I'd have done if I was him, or maybe turn him into a zombie or vampire who goes around killing people. You know anything but the objectively nicest possible way of interpreting that wish.

HEY! I like the actor who plays the cop interviewing the Jinn. I remember him from the Angel pilot. I'm surprised the guy reviewing this missed that since he's a Buffy Fan (and who watched Buffy without watching Angel?).
I did get that but quite frankly I got bigger fish to fry and i can't go through every actors filmography especially when that actor played a fairly inconsequential vampire just there to establish angel as a badass to wolfram and hart, oh yeah i watched it all.
And the prison guard is awesome too!

The lawyer scene was probably the most entertaining piece of the film, at least it was an interesting way to fulfil the wish

Few things. All Abrahamic religions worship the same god but fight over the prophet. The Djinn in Islam are an entity ranking between angels and man. They are made out of smokeless fire and do not have the power destroy the world. I seem to remember that Islam's version of Satan was a Djinn who refused to bow before Adam.
I think where the idea of wishes came from is King David's son, Solomon. He bound demons to do his bidding with a ring gifted to him by the angels.

Ha, I can actually remember liking this quite fondly (though certainly not as much as the first), but you're right. In the less than 5 minutes they destroy any connection to the first film, and it cheapens the overall story in the long run. :/
9:00 Yeah, that was the other reason why the sequels sucked. The first movie managed to avoid dragging the djinn, a creature of Middle Eastern folklore, into the mess of convoluted cliches which is Western religion.

As far as the casino "manager" goes, he didn't actually get 2 wishes for himself. When he made the first wish he was technically speaking on behalf of the casino, but the 2nd wish he made for himself.
Which makes zero sense, unless your telling me that you could tell the djinn "my mate dave wishes to give me lot of money" you cant make wishes by proxy.

The new rules they came up with were probably to fill the plot hole from the first movie which made the Djinn so easy to defeat. Seriously, how scary is a monster when you can tell him to just go away.

I assume maybe because he was so close to victory that he didn't bother to twist the wish around...maybe he thought it'd be more terrible that way, as their happy family would have to live through the hell on earth when the djinn brought through his brethren.
So much of the dialogue would have been better if instead of saying “you would like (whatever)” he said “dont you wish (whatever)”. Then he still would be granting wishes. I know thats a small thing but i feel like wishes, when genies are involved, are different than yeah i would like something. Plus we have seen how pedantic this djinn is, so i feel like that distinction should matter to him.

You’re review is spot on about this movie. It was so disappointing the first was so good why were they in such a hurry to cash in on this series that they ruin it. I swear that this film makers intentionally series just so they don’t have to write them.

No, I was expecting a consistent story, Not only was it not consistent with the film its a sequel to, It wasn’t consistent between scenes.

I am going to kind of give the movie some credit. The first wish of the casino manager was that of the casino, not himself personally. The second wish was from him personally. So, that must be the logic they are using for the one wish per customer rule. However, a casino is an inanimate place which cannot make wishes, so it should not of been made. That is like a worker at Disney World saying that, "Disney wishes you have the best time here at our wonderful parks!"
so yeah you explained the first problem with that theory, is that the djinn wouldn't accept a wish from something that doesnt have a soul however the other problem with that is if the guy "wished for the casino" i could be like "hey djinn my mate dan wished i was rich, so take his soul and gimme money" which is incredibly nonsensical on many levels.

I like the dancing idea, but since he said "Compton-style", they end up just sitting there, listening to the guys demo tape and bobbin' their heads. And the djinn, in that same full make-up, turns to the guard and just deadpan "This is pretty good." And then they're back right where they were and the guard walks off, confused and weirded out but has his demo tape in his hand or something.

Well, from an Islamic perspective Christianity, while still a religion of the book, is still not great because the whole Holy Trinity concept goes against the Islamic idea of G-d being a unity. So it probably still wouldn’t work
