I have an issue maybe you can help with. I've got a Troy Bilt 1842 that when the blades are engaged it takes a while before they get up to speed. I've replaced all the pulleys and belts

Taryl, you're the best! Very informative plus lots of fun. I'm an old guy (68) and remember hanging out in machine shops and gas stations in rural NC. Started out as a kid fixing flats (a weekly event) on my bicycle, then trying to get my first $50 junker Ford on the road. You could hang out with the older guys, learn something and maybe even get a sandwich and RC Cola if you swept up the place, cleaned out the grease pit and dumped the ash trays. You take us back to the old days! Mechanics back then didn't have clean clipboards, clean fingernails, wear ties and girly earrings! Back to the present... a month ago I successfully replaced my Craftsman's blades after watching another of your videos. Now I want to pull my deck again to check a few things you covered here. Thanks again! You really should be on prime time TV!

So I just changed my spindles, pulleys, blades, cleaned the deck, and fixed my blade disengaging issue. All thanks to your video. Probably took a little longer than it should have but hey it was my first time. Thanks for the great tutorial!!

You are amazing. A customer brought in this exact same tractor. I got it running like brand new and went to mow with it and I couldn't get the blades to disengage. Watch this video and did the exact same thing you showed and BAM. Engages and disengages as it should. Hes got a beautiful running and mowing tractor now. Thank you Taryl.

This was the exact fix I needed and I learned all I need to know about my mower deck from this video. I just got done gooberin' it up and it works perfectly now.

This is one of the first T.F.A. videos I ever watched. Probably 8 years ago. It came in handy then and again today as my new used Craftsman mower wasn't wanting to engage the blades. Ground the divots out and goobered the deck up with never-seize and she's a happy lawn tractor again! Thanks again Taryl!

Taryl, I wanted to say Thank You!! Been working on my Husqvarna 42" deck. Replaced spindles, pulleys, and blades brakes. Everything was great..till the brake part. Just wouldn't work quite right. All parts I reused except new brake pads. Took it apart twice but it just wasn't smooth as it should've been. Saw the video, took it apart and used power wire brush to clean the original parts. Then I "goobered" it up as you said and put it back together like you did. Worked perfectly!! That polishing and taking off all the 10yr old crap (roughness" was the trick. The "goobering" I actually said out loud for luck as I put it back together. Thanks buddy! Keep up the work.

Thanks for the great video Taryl! It was as if it was custom made for me. I have a Craftsman LT2000 year 2008 and my problem was the exact opposite. My blades would NOT spin half the time when engaged. Last weekend I dropped the deck and applied your fix to the letter and, PRESTO, smooth as silk now. I even used the anti-sieze goop like you. Keep up the great work. I learn a lot. Your videos are not run of the mill. They address real world problems. Even the odd problems that only an experienced guy like you and your crew see. In this case, you used your engineering skill and mind to solve the problem WITHOUT new parts. You were right, anyone else would have simply ordered new parts. Keep it up. I need my dinner!

Hi Taryl!! I just did this on my ARIENS 42" tractor mower because YOU show everything step by step and I for 1 really appreciate the info video.
BEFORE the replacement of the plate (that you ground) I had replaced the idler pulleys with exact replacements (My old ones wern't bad but I had the deck out to replace the DRIVE PULLEYS and thought I'd be proactive by doing the deck pulleys too) My mower was working ok with the old pulleys but after I changed the deck pulleys and turned it back on the deck was making a horrible racket, so now knowing about the sticking/worn plate I figured THAT was the problem and ordered a new plate, new brakes, new springs and took pictures of everything BEFORE I started and followed your GREAT video to the T. - I got everything back together and same thing; the deck makes a horrible banging and there is a horrible vibration that wasn't present BEFORE I changed the (deck) idlers. I have had the darn deck out SEVERAL times now to check everything and everything seems fine. I don't think the blades are timed on this unit......Any suggestions as to what to check next? Thanks Again!!

Taryl, I'm now a subscriber to your channel! I was going to send my 2006 Craftsman LT3000/20HP/42" Deck (917.276813) to a small engine repair shop until I watched your great video. Hands down the best instructional/fix it yourself tutorial I've seen to date! I removed the blade clutch unit, detailed cleaned each part and afterward generously lubed all the parts. Once reinstall all parts, I was very impressed on the ease of engaging the blade control lever. I can now engage the lever with one finger, ha! And the braking of the blades even stop better than before. You Rock! I look forward to more helpful videos...
