I just finished another Tractor a couple days ago.
I have a friend that brings me ones that are headed to the Dump and I rebuild them for fun and then we sell them.
I do things a little differently than you do in this video. With my Projects I completely disassemble the deck and go through it.
I have 7 Tractors, 3 of them are ones that I am keeping. The first I refer to as the Rat Tractor which I use for dragging other Tractors around the house going to get coffee in the morning, running to the Grocery store and other little trips around town.
The second is a Craftsman with a 42 inch deck that I use occasionally to mow my neighbors Yards.
My Third is a John Deere 165 Hydro that I am building for a daily drive so I can use the Rat Tractor exclusively for home use.
The John Deere is getting an upgrade on the engine from the Kawasaki to a Kohler 23 horsepower twin cylinder out of a John Deere L130 I got as a trade in.
I am running a Honda TRX 125 rear Axle and a cast Iron front Axle off another John Deere.
I like your video as it will help the do it yourselfers at home keep their Machines looking good and I like that you mentioned the importance of yearly cleaning of the deck to keep it in good condition as most people don't ever clean them which can lead to very expensive repairs or replacement.
The funny thing is that I don't have any Grass of any kind on my place.
I guess us Retired Auto Body guys have to keep busy with one thing or another. 😎👍👍

@@VansWorld yes I do have fun, I also fix Machines for people too as there is no place for Miles.
Recently I have become a little disenchanted with a couple of people who have brought me their things.
I guess that they don't understand that this is just a Hobby for me and a way to help others.
A couple days ago one of the individuals I am referring to come Over and got Short Tempered with me because I was running behind on a few projects for people and I would get to his ASAP right after I got caught up on things.
He said but You told me a week and a half or TWO WEEKS! I am not a young man and I do forget some things so I keep track of appointments on a small notebook. It had only been one week since I talked to Him.
Tomorrow He is going to bring His Snapper Riding Mower if He gets cocky or disrespectful I am going to use a word I don't often use.
      That Word is NO!
Considering I only charge for parts and accept donations for my time which saves them transporting their stuff 60 to Over 100 miles Round trip not to mention the cost of a professional shop would change and then to act in such a fashion is unacceptable.
      WELL
On another note, I only have a couple of things to modify before I do the finishing touches on what I am calling the 2nd Generation Rat Tractor, the John Deere I spoke of.
I have to shorten the steering Column 6 inches and weld a couple mounts I made to attach the dashboard assembly to the frame. After that wiring headlights and taillights.
I have been approached by a couple of Kids who thought that I would sell the First Rat Tractor because I was building another one.
I told both of them that I was keeping it. Though I wouldn't sell it to a Kid because I have nearly flipped it more than once myself Doing Donuts and talking corners on pavement Full Throttle, yes I guess you could say that I am still a Kid on the inside.
I should be completely done with my 2nd Generation Rat in a couple more weeks.
I am already collecting up parts for a Third Generation Rat Tractor but next time I will be building the frame so that I can drop it down, lower that Center of gravity for stability at higher speeds, independent front suspension, mono shock swing arm rear suspension with disc brakes on both ends.
      😎✌

I gleaned from your video how the rear linkages went back on after id removed the deck to replace the blade brakes and slide mechanism to the PTO . well i got down to the linkages while reassembling and couldnt remember how to do it. Even though you didn't elaborate on that part much pausing the video on it hepled alot. I wasn't restoring the deck. Did that 3 or 4 years ago. My situation was deck belt not staying on and Blades not completely disengaging. So now its fixed. Thanks Buddy

That camo is hot! You inspired me man...just went and got four different camo ultra flat paints to do the main body tonight and will use local foliage found in my neck of the woods as the 'stencil' -- I already did the hood, back plate, footrests in red, silver & dark blue before I saw your vid, but with the camo along with that will scream AMERICA, EFF YEAH!! I brush painted the top of my deck with an aluminum oil-based Rust-Oleum after removing all rust and putting on a rust inhibiting primer and it looks incredible (the underside is the glossy black and that looks brand new). Finishing it off with an American flag Brodie knob I ordered off Amazon to complete the look. Thanks for the inspiration sir!

I'm not listening to the audio, however after all that washing, I would have definitely spent a little more time wire brushing and using Rustoleum rusty/oxidized primer paint, then top-coated with another oil based paint. Just using a top coat without a primer, the coat will just quickly fall-off and rust again, as the top-coat has nothing to adhere to on the surface. Whether spraying or brushing, choose your poison. I'll likely quickly brush (paint), until I get more time for removing all parts for HVLP spray painting. Was really looking for diagrams/photos on how the darn brakes work, and if I'm missing parts. Seems to be no repair/service manual, with only a non-descriptive parts diagram!

Use spray on graphite available at auto parts stores. It's usually used for ignitions switches or door locks.
Shake it WELL. Once you think you have shaked the RATTLE enuf, do it again.
It rays on wet and dries in a min. It wont attract dust.
Use it on the pulley axles, belt engagement linkage, nylon bushings, etc. Move the part around. By the 3rd time you will feel a noticable improvemprovement.
It is messy. Use it sparingly, its $4 for a small can, it will syphon out of the straw after its sprayed. Hit threads with straw then to save. $$
      It works.
My 25 yr old crafts looks like hell but every engagement is smooth and positive lock.

That information can be found under your mower where your left foot sits. Or lift the hood and get the information there. I printed out a manual for my mower by doing a google search.

What rebuild? The deck was scraped clean and painted. Not a single part was replaced or repaired

    • @VansWorld
      @VansWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

But if it needed it. It would be easier to get to. What are you looking to replace? The title says restore. Not rebuild

The degreaser is not really necessary. Not good on the yard or the drains .

    • @VansWorld
      @VansWorld  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Well it just depends on how ya feel about yards and drains lol. Just kidding. Honestly the yards would have to do with well water. I don’t know anyone around my area that would be using well water in like a 150 mile radius lol. My degreaser never even came close to a drain. But thanks for your comment and concern. I hope you have a great weekend coming up. 👍😁

Ah yes the freshly rebuild mower deck always garge kept and the blades have been freshly sharpened and have never touched a drip of moisture... 🤨

  • @johnrunion7258

Those blades look worse than the mower deck did.

You spray painted it - jeez. I was hoping to see the mandrels rebuilt or replaced, bushings and bearings replaced etc. I know how to operate a can of spray paint. You have a lot of time on your hands to be concerned what color it is
