I have a Kohler engine sitting at my dads place. Have to check the model out tomorrow. Would make a cool old school minibike. Who makes those rods? piston also ?
When I got allis Chalmers 712S the tractor was a pulling meets and engine was destroyed from the connerting rod .Who did it they weaken rod that is strongest part of in that area when it made a hole to the size of your fist and it was cast iron block then crack the cylinder all the way to the cylinder head completely scraped cause keep reseting the points for more proformence to ruin it .
I was taught to always clearance replaceable parts not the block to prevent unwanted wearing Is there a reason for it on the kohler compared to other engines
cool trick on line up studs question cam shim k301 mine only on shim to short side if more needed its ok to add to either end? on crank end play check dry just go into one crank bearing?
hi there, im looking at getting a K341 for my lawn tractor but it needs another crank, are they easy to get on ebay or other places? im in New Zealand, Cheers Brett
@@PullerbearEd it was cut down on the pto side as the lawn tractor was driven on the flywheel side.....some zero turn BS.....not sure why it happen but was trying to save it from scrap if crank wasnt to much of a cost, thanks Brett
@PullerbearEd I see. Love me a k series. How those midwest rods hold up over time? I've wanted to change my rods out and cams on a few machines I have but haven't because the oil slapper looks pretty small.
1st,that's the pto side, not the flywheel side. 2nd,no way in he'll a 12 will bore to a 16 hp bore, flat wrong 3rd,shoulda drilled and champhered the bearing, you'll be buying another crank, guaranteed 4th,closure plate bolts must be torqued to check end play, say gasket crush, endplay is reduced
I’ll be rebuilding a k301 myself so I’ll keep watching.
The second half should be coming up soon.
I always love the engine builds and the fabrication to get it to work 👍
I really enjoy them to.
Getting ready to start a K301 build, Thank you for the content!
Your welcome, thank you for watching.
Thank you for video 👍
Thank you for watching Joe
I’m doing the same thing on a K321a! We should compare notes!!
That would be great to compare notes on them.
Hope you can get it straightened out Ed. 👍
Ya it will come together, just waiting on a couple parts
Interesting, good work!
Thank you Ben

These pistons and rods came from Midwest Super Cub. I think that a k series would be an awesome engine for a mini bike.

If you were to clearance these rods it would create a weak spot and it would brake right there.
where did you get cam shims at for k301 thanks to you i got .012 so wheres a guy get a .002 cam shim
My local kohler dealer got them for me.
cool trick on line up studs question cam shim k301 mine only on shim to short side if more needed its ok to add to either end? on crank end play check dry just go into one crank bearing?
Ya you can shim the other end. The crank end play is adjusted by adding or removing shim gaskets on the closer plat.
thank you like your videos your calm and to the point youd be a great teacher@@PullerbearEd
I definitely would not make a good teacher. 🤣🤣
@@PullerbearEdyour teaching me:-)
Many Thanks!

Yes you can find them on eBay. Unless the crank is broken if might be a cheaper route to have it machined and use oversized bearings on the rod.
@@PullerbearEd it was cut down on the pto side as the lawn tractor was driven on the flywheel side.....some zero turn BS.....not sure why it happen but was trying to save it from scrap if crank wasnt to much of a cost, thanks Brett
Ya, I've gotten a couple like that also. The cranks are still out there. You can even buy new aftermarket from places like Midwest Supper cub.
I would have preferred to die grind the connecting rod side, not the cylinder skirt ..
If you were to die grind the connecting rod you would have to remove almost half of it thus defeating the purpose of a aftermarket heaver duty rod....
Where pt2?
@pnz4aufsh the engine got sold after a few passes and was replace with a Vtwin. I don't know what became of it after that

@pnz4aufsh for pulling the rods work great. I don't know how they would be in a stock mower type use.
Old age CSR is showing. Can't remember stuff. Lol!!
That might be partly true but it's more of a case of working my daily job then another 4-6 hrs in my shop.
1st,that's the pto side, not the flywheel side.

Yep your totally right on all accounts. Thanks. I will surely be checking out the videos of all the pulling engines you have built.
@@PullerbearEd Have you seen any yet?!
