WHAT ON EARTH! Doing proper repaint preparation by spending 95% of your time removing and scraping the old mess. PRIMING for gods sake, like you knew what was up! Loving it, you two are doing a right proper job of it, wonderful to see and the result will last many years.
You're within spitting distance of 100k subs! Congrats. A proper paint job is at least 90% prep. The actual application of coating(s) is almost anticlimactic. As usual, you presented us with great content. Thanks! See you next week.
Wow, the work you've put into this refit is really paying off! You are going to enjoy your beautiful new home even more knowing that you made it happen. Cheers from the middle of the US!
Stir-Cam! Lol! Great point about removing nuts and washers for most complete paint seal. I'll bet you're glad she's no bigger than 30ft! Great prep work guys!
Just with primer it looks beautiful. I can't wait for the next video. Really liking this series. You guys are not "half assing" the reno you're doing it proper.
Isn’t it amazing how much better something can look with a fresh coat of paint. I have friends who have made good living fixing up and repainting washers and dryers. They say the worse it looks at the start the better the profit. Many of the machines they got were free or they paid less than $10 for. After going through the mechanics and repainting them they were able to sell them for no less than $100. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
G'day guys from across the ditch. Nice job. Potential owners take note. There is truth in the saying." A boat is a hole in the ocean in which your pour money, time and love." Looking forward to the next chapter in adventures. Take care and stay safe.
That International HT4500 is super awesome stuff. After I used it for the first time, went back to my boat the next day and was blown away with how good it is.
Favorite sailing videos.! Even when you're on land you're interesting to watch. Your knowledge of the sea fascinating. Your choice of a mate is unmatched! A Gem .
You should be very proud of yourselves, a cracking job, and how lovely to see your boat so white and airy looking. Can't wait to see the finished result.
I've been following you guys from Canada for a while now, and am 2.5 years into my first boat, and have this sort of job coming up, but not as big. Thanks for all your vids, Love your channel, cheers from Canada, Dave with his Grampian 26 on Lake Ontario.
Aaahhh Yes....scrape, sand, fill, sand, fill, sand, fill, sand......and then you paint and find another hole and ask yourself "How the flaming heck (or words to that effect) did I miss that?". Thanks for the recurring nightmares!!. Really enjoying this refit series. Mirrool will be better than new when you two are finished with her. By the way....I've finally booked the transport...transport to boatyard towards the end of October depending on permits etc, launch end of October / beginning of November. Now the pressure is on.
Back to back they faced each other . Drew their swords an shot the bugger . Great vlog guys ,like watching paint dry Sure looking 4ward to you setting sail again ,lol Fanx for sharing :-D
That's a big job, working in that climate could be far better than in tropical regions, when ever working in side boats tend to get heat stress, well done.
just got done painting all the trim and soffits on my house here in the hottest part of the summer here in Virginia...wish i could've had you two here to help me😁
I was waiting for you to show the painting of the faces of the "shelf" in the front berth. My OCD kicked in and I keep thinking about those two long, thick, unpainted surfaces that run the length of the berth! lol :D
That makes sense now. I was wondering the same thing. I figured there might be timbers screwed-on with plugs covering the screw holes. I didn't think of epoxy.
I live in a hottish place. We call 13 celsius winter. Yesterday was 43C can't do shit in 43C. Caulk gun insta mix epoxy adhesive cures before it leaves the tube. There was a lot of sanding in that lesson. We should read the label and believe. It's only 5 degrees over, it'll be all right, doesn't work. It's looking awesome. Awaiting the next instalment.
Troy, it is to late on that boat. If you get another boat when you paint inside use gel coat!!!!! It does cost more and it is harder to get on right. But it’s much tougher and will stay nice much much longer. It cleans up better. It’s 3 xs more indestructible as paint. It will not peel off like paint if you apply it properly.
Well.. I learnt something today. I've often heard northern hemisphere people talk about de-natured alcohol and I didn't know it was just good old plain metho. Things looking good guys - glad to see that some good has come out of this lockdown period .. winter in Tassie seems like not a bad place to be stuck doing such a refit - weather wise anyway.
How things have changed with the years . When I was fixing up 70's English fibreglass sportscars, these sorts of matierials , (thickened epoxy etc) simply weren' t invented . How much easier it would have made my life back then :) But I always tried to avoid painting my nuts :)
I did the same thing to a 33 foot sloop 20 years ago but used flow coat and a stipple roller. It turned out well but what a horrible job grinding the whole interior surface. Never again. Good effort guys.
Seeing the amount of preparation you have put in took me back to being a very young child on top of a ladder learning to "chip paint" with my dad so he could paint the eaves and soffit on our house. Mom came home from shopping and freaked out! There was her baby boy on top of an eight foot ladder covered in paint chips, lead paint chips. Yeah I'm that old, lead paint, asbestos insulation and flooring. Yup, she freaked. Glad you kept the paint off your nuts by golly. While you're living with 13 degrees today is the first time in months below 40 here. Stay well kids.
"Because it's a boat it takes one day to do any little thing" ....I say that with mountain bikes...and tractors, and combines, and harvesters, and furniture, and any small minute fix, or anything that should, I say should take a few minutes to repair. Life is grand!
I go to work on my boat and the same happens...nice day, by myself, no wife, no kids, sitting in the cockpit with a take away coffee, gazing across the marina, not much gets done, but hey... I can't complain.
Refits always takes longer than expected. I’m into mine a year and a half now. I’m still another year out every bit.But that’s working on it on average two days a week some times more some times less. You both made a good decision renting a place while doing your rebuild I know that’s been nice going home to a clean bed every night .
In case you do not know and have not already put the final coats on. Paints were more toxic in the past than they are today and the exterior paints don't inhibit mould like they used to. There are mould inhibitors that you can add to paint that you may want to look at.
You make even the boring boat stuff interesting. I like the editing that is an explanation the fast action painting. Not only would real time painting be dull, but the fast forward provides an interesting perspective where you can see the difference. Well done. Oh and a question. I didn’t see many masks in use, I’d have thought paint fumes in an enclosed space would have made that necessary.
You guys are doing a great job. I have to do my lazerrette & a couple of cockpit storage areas & was interested in the paint your using. The primer looked like Taubmans 3 in 1(just been painting at home) the finish looked great. Cheers
11:28 Reminds me of the scene in Woody Allens movie, "Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex But Was Afraid To Ask". When he was a Sperm. To funny. Amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do. Breath of fresh air. Looks great
You are really upping your photo and editing skills. Proper use of areal use as an establishing shot. Clear evidence of you thinking about framing your shots. Now that you are reaching the expert level you might consider looking into a tilt-shift lens and see if it is applicable.
Hi Pascal and Troy. Congrats on your progress and good luck with the lock down. Any news on when they will be lifted in Tassie? I am on the scrounge for a screen shot of what you put in your log. We are not even on L plates as yet and I want to make sure to start off correctly. Again your videos are awesome. Thanks Craig
My old boss in the boatyard used to say ' make sure that the last coat of paint or varnish is perfect because it will be the undercoat next time you paint!'
Looking great! I wish you could have gotten further, but you probably do too... I am wondering why you left the side of the shelves bare in the V-berth. Is it going to be covered by a timber later? Would paint have hurt being under that? It is interesting to me that you are using exterior-grade paint. I have personally sworn off using any 2-part paint on a boat ever again if I can at all help it -not even "marine-grade" single-part paint is good enough, IMHO and always tends to peel. Every time I have used it I have regretted the choice but incompatible prior paint needs to be completely removed down to the fiberglass or a compatible primer used between it and and 2-part topcoat. But you are constrained by the previous paint as well, and completely removing it all would have been a huge job. I hope your work pays off and thete is no further peeling for years to come. Hopefully when we all emerge from the current pandemic you will have a wonderful new living space inside your boat and all the other upgrades and refit items done for many more seasons of trouble-free cruising.
Not on a phone when you refuse to use the TH-cam app because it shows too many ads and instead are using rhe duck duck go browser via the m.youtube mobile site. I'd rather not be able to edit comments than be subjected to all those ads here
We cruise full-time so our phones are our internet, unless we can find free WiFi or are at a rare marina that offers WiFi that is usable. My phone is my main "computer" and access to the interwebs, usually using cell internet. Ads also cost me money to download, on top of wasting my time. It's not like we have any money to buy that junk they are advertising, or the place to store it on the boat. We are not much bigger than Mirrool.
Ok this is video number 23 of my "I want to buy a Free Range Sailing hoody" campaign
Cheers

Mmmm! The smell of fresh painted boat.

While the prep is always torturous drudgery, seeing the prime and finish coats applied ranks among life's most fulfilling moments. Looking swell !
OHH Boy....the Fun times of painting is ALWAYS when it is DONE and that Final Touch Makes the Whole Project.....AHHHHHh
Seeing the heater there reminds me of what my Dad used to say to me. If your cold your not working hard enough..🤣
I loved the on-the-paint-stick shot 😄
That painting is cathartic

Stir-Cam! Lol! Great point about removing nuts and washers for most complete paint seal. I'll bet you're glad she's no bigger than 30ft! Great prep work guys!

It didn’t know watching paint dry could be so interesting 👍🏻
You are an inspiration! I don’t think you would have received results of that high quality at a yard at any price. Well Done!

9:06.., what a difference already!
Watch out for the tasmanian fill, sand, fill, sand, fill, sand and sand some more devil. Lol great job guys
I have to admire both of your resilience and practical know how. Yeh for Pascy and Troy.
What an incredible amount of work.
Loved the stir cam :) Looking forward to more action cams.
Tin foil over the paint tray is life changing... genius.
I'm really enjoying watching Mirool get a make-over. She will be so lovely to sail on again!
That rain will sure add some drying time

NOBODY MESSES WITH THE NUTS ! After completion, this vessel belongs to "the do it right" museum. Always a pleasure to see you two. Thank you
Good to see you guys breathing new life into Mirool. Paint looks good in there.
Nice work guys shes looking great
The two of you working in harmony is wonderful, and it is making the boat look remarkable.
Back to back they faced each other . Drew their swords an shot the bugger . Great vlog guys ,like watching paint dry
Sure looking 4ward to you setting sail again ,lol

:-D
Its the prep work that separates slapping on some paint from a quilty paint job
The boat will look new again, and have new life. Great job guys
So cool to see Mirrool from all angles and pre prep work. It’s going to look so nice when your done:)
Wow Troy & Pascale what a transformation to your lovely Paint Job thanks so much for sharing your refit journey with us is much appreciated

Ah. That surface is bare to receive epoxy as part of a nice timber trim. Coming soon!
That makes sense now. I was wondering the same thing. I figured there might be timbers screwed-on with plugs covering the screw holes. I didn't think of epoxy.
Mate, you better have your OCD locked up while watching these videos. Barely anything's gonna be near perfect i assure!

SO much work before you lay down the paint . Painting my house now , taking forever , bit by bit :)
Wow! What a transformation!
Great work!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I can't wait to see the finished product !

Yeah I'm on a learning curve too. I'm building a fiberglass nose for my streamliner & learned about micro bubbles.
pro trick: you can watch movies at flixzone. Been using it for watching all kinds of movies these days.
