As a carpenter myself I love watching Troy fabricate y'alls boat. His eye for detail and patience while teaching Pascale is awesome! Thanks guys watching your videos gives me something to look forward to going through surgery! It helps me stay positive while being so stationary and unproductive! 🙂

Had to watch this again tonight. Just love to see the fire in both your eyes as you are rightfully pleased with your endeavor.........................., yet, to witness the pure joy of Pascale from a woman's perspective of a much nicer space for her to call home is just wonderful !! Congratulations, guys. Well done. 👍

Your galley is looking great. The best part is that it will make you smile every time you use it

  • @Viper_Poker

The cabinets look fantastic. Just a thought: as you use your cabinets youll find that they will wear in and start to slide quite easily. .. ( which is nice ) .. how ever .... that means when tbe bow is comming up and pitching forward the cabinets will start sliding on thier own.
You can negate that with magnet latches ... you can install them on the back of the doors and inside the cabinet and that will hold your doors in place.
Just sharing some life experience .... 🌹❤🌹

So excited to share this one with you folks - we are so proud of our new galley space! There's plenty more interior refit videos to come over the coming weeks before we start the work on Mirrool's exterior. A big thank you to all that have been able to send us contributions during the refit, we could not have done it without you. I can't wait to start cooking some wonderful creations in our new galley space after this epic refit is over. Pascale

You did a great job on the galley so you are rightly proud. Looking forward to the other refit videos. It's too late now but you may want to consider wipe on polyurethane (thinned polyurethane). It is much easier to get a streak-less finish with wipe on.

Absolutely beautiful job. You owe the guy with the workshop about a million beers !! I know you are well and truly finished by the time you read this, but 2 hints. Bondcrete is a lot stronger than Aquadhere and is a lot more waterproof. And instead of sanding varnish I now use steel wool, it is available in different grades and doesn`t clog up.

Question Troy? Have you ever thought about writing a book, not just of your history and of your travels, but of your sailing stories and more importantly your refit. And include you tips. Pascal, love to read your stories, cooking tips and how easy you found it to join Troy on your travels? Again tales of your refit? Great to see you both in the cabinet build.

I have discovered your channel a few months ago and been playing catch-up. Great story.
Having just finished a house renovation I can appreciate how much more complicated it must be on a boat and understand why you have to pay so much more attention to detail - especially being as you are going to be on open oceans.
Pascal - such a talented lady and hard worker.
Troy - you are a very talented perfectionist ;-) And hug Pascal as much as you can - she is a keeper!!
OK, more episodes to catch up on.

  • @svbarryduckworth628

Very nice work. Finishing the cabinetry is more labor-intensive by far than the woodwork itself. You guys seem to have gotten a fantastic finished product. Pascale has outdone herself.
The sliding doors in the galley of our Hallberg-Rassy 35 Rasmus do come out, but it is a real bugger to get them in or out. The tolerances are ridiculously tight. They don't pop out ever in a seaway but I have to wonder just how skilled the finished cabinetry carpenters were to have made that level of tight tolerances work and still work brilliantly even 45 years later.
Using the aluminum channel was a brilliant move. They should slide very well forever and be dimensionally stable. We have found that the sail lube called McLube/Sailkote is really effective in keeping sticky cabinetry nice and supple. It almost works too well. It's great on sail tracks too.

Beautiful work on the cabinetry. One comment on the finishing process. I no longer sand after staining and between top coats. I use crumpled up brown paper grocery bags, also known as kraft paper or packing paper. It makes knocking down little bumps and such a snap without the risk of sanding through a coat. When you achieve a smooth surface you can hear the difference in the rubbing sound.

Amazing cabinetry. One small thing I would have done, is to embed a rare earth magnet in each vertical side of the sliding doors and a small piece of steel in the vertical framework. This to help keep the doors closed when you want them to stay closed - and to stay open when you want that. The doors fit very well for now but over time the wood will wear and the doors may slide much easier.

Seems that while you guys were creating your masterpiece, I was rehabbing my boat's interior.
I can't cut a straight line with a skill saw, so I had the cabinet guy cut all the wood and I took it from there. I share your "pride of accomplishment" in a job well done.
By the way, have you noticed that your views / 'likes' ratio is much higher than any
other sailing related VLOG? Quality work gets noticed. Congrats.

Wow, that chap set you guys up with a sweet wood working shop 👍. Troy, you are spot on with safety message of tools, such, as routers, planers, joiners, etc. Noise in shop can mask a running device... ☹️ I won’t link to a recent video of an experienced craftsman with ear protection on put his hand on a running joiner and lost most of his fingers.. 🤭. Pascal, I made my own kitchen cabinets and went through exactly what you went through, sanded through the stain making corrections. I know the frustration, time, and sweat equity you put into finishing the doors. They look great and you two did an awesome job. Boat refits should come with disclaimer, “Don’t start without ample Advil or such for the aches and pains coming forthwith 😂🤣😂

  • @Sailor_Greg
    @Sailor_Greg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Another great episode! You two are quite the wood workers!
Good catch on the sanding, Pascale. A pre-stain conditioner, or sanding sealer before applying stain will also help hide any scratches.

Nicely done guys, such an improvement on the old version !
It's simple and practical with a good amount of style but not over done, it's easy to get carried away when you have access to a well equipped workshop like that and add all kinds of unnecessary detail. I don't think I could have avoided using the router table to put beading and round overs all over that woodwork which I know is not to everyone's tastes and might even be the first thing a new owner might want to change !
Nice choice of music again Pascale, very chilled, love it !

I once took a party of schoolkids to a large carpentry and joinery workshop for a tour, I said to the supervisor, before we come in, can I just gather the lads and clarify to them they don't touch anything? He shook his head, beckoned the group in, and called out to the seven or eight workers in the shop: "Hands!"
They all held up their hands and I don't think there was one man in there who had a complete set of fingers.
"Now you have to remember these people are the experts," he said to our group. "Plenty of experience. So is anyone going to touch any equipment?"
Much wide-eyed head-shaking from the group. It worked.

Sooo good. I learn so much from you guys. I will be hauling out quite possibly at Kettering in the next few months. In the meantime I have bought a nice Falcon Station wagon to explore Tassie. I respect your privacy... That said I would really love to meet you all if even for a moment or two. I appreciate your excellent sense of real and respect very much your excellent relationship. Very cool..Thank you...Kim of SV Philosophy

Great job! After this refit. Would be the best time for you to sell your sailboat. It's the best it will ever look. And you'll get the best price for it too. A sail away deal for the next owners.

awesome and beautiful job free rangers ! Nothing like off the shelf sectional timbers to kick it off with, and what better than some Tassie oak for the framing job. Looking forward to rest of refit. Go well. Q

A huge improvement on the inside of your boat. I use a thing called a vicks bit to get the holes centred, no eye balling to get it right.

Pascal when sanding with your hand 🤚 always comes out uneven. The fingers gouge deep and between the fingers leave a high spot. Use a block!!! Wood or rubber blocks are made now mostly rubber. Blocks will give smoother even sanding and look much better. Also sand with the grain of the wood. On fiberglass sand in “X” to give smooth fair hull.
