Oh boy, what memories that spent grain brings back. The Town Supply Dairy farm our family of 9 bought outside of DUNEDIN Sth Island NZ . Our Dad drove the huge tip truck to collect the spent grain that was then shovelled thru a hole in the wall ,into huge concrete/brick old horse stables . And then every milking , morning & night the cows were served spent grain in troughs as they were milked. A very arduous job and very much hard heavy work. As is most life on lge Dairy Farms esp TOWN SUPPLY, all the family has to lend a hand. Thankyou for the nemories of over 50 yrs ago. And many blessings to you as a husband & wife team with goats and pigs to feed.

Wow! 4 years! What lovely adventures you must’ve had. But I bet you’re happy to have a place that you can be rooted in for a while. 😊 we are excited to go on this trip, it’s been a couple years in the making. Right now we’re working really hard to make sure that our homestead and animals can be taken care of while we’re gone. It’s really helped us realize how much work this all really is. Ha! wouldn’t change it for the world, but it’s a lot of work to ask one person to do. Good thing, we have great friends!

Mr. Reeves sure does work hard getting all that snow removed! I think I’d love spending hours on a plow. I drive a skid steer/ uni loader in the winter for snow removal. Doing it daily or every other day may get tiring though. Glad I found your channel. I’m going to binge watch your videos.
Gotta love that fluffy snow when it's below 25 or so. It is much different to deal with than the Lake Effect that I grew up with. Good thing you have lots of soup to warm yourselves up with! -Dusty
Winter in Alaska is like summer in Texas, once it starts, it's with you for 8 months out of the year. Every year I'm so ready for cooler temps because of the oppressive heat. I cant imagine winter 8 months out of the year, but the snow is beautiful and I wish we had more of it!❤

Technically speaking in Northen Hemisphere and older times, Breakfast was around (summer) at 4:00am to 6:00am and lunch was around 10:00am to 2:00pm so winter was an hour earlier from 4:00am it would be 3:00am, Suggestion: add dry Sand or better Sawdust to your stairs before you go to town so even if snows or rains in winter your stairs won't freeze if that don't work.. try sand and sawdust mix.

Thanks we love them so much. We call them “the berries” ha! Holly and Juniper. They are actually Maremmas. Very similar to great Pyrenees, but a little bit smaller body type and they stay home better and roam less. That part was important to us. We need them to stay close to home with so many predators. They are the hardest working animals on the farm. 😊

When I was little, we were allowed to swim in the lake when temps hit 60° (water was about 45°) and the rule was, we had to get out of the water when our lips turned purple. So, my brother and I (who never wanted to get out of the water) just made sure we never faced our mom on the shore. Ha! And the other hand though, when it reaches 80° we think we are dying! Ha!
80 is when I come out of my jacket!! I would love to visit Alaska, in the summer! Would love to hunt there! I hear moose is even better than elk! But the skeeters there are like B52 bombers! I thought you’d like this video! That Stihl leaf blower is a BR 450 and blows it 219 miles an hour. It can handle the fluffy snow and the wet snow. We bought 40 acres of raw wilderness. There was nothing here but trees and an old dog sled trail that ran through. 😊

I think I bought that battery pack for $10 at Walmart about four years ago. I think they’re like 30 or $40 now. If it’s going to snow for a week, we’re out there all week long keeping it knocked down everyday.
@@mick5740 definitely. Its part of the plan, but the animal barn will be first. It seems an easy solution to build something drive the equipment under, but there’s a trade off. It’s quite a large expense to have a giant roof to climb on and keep shoveled. Sometimes its easier just to clean the snow off the vehicles.😊

Hey friend, we really need to build an entire cab cover. Because we live at the base of mountain the snow, just swirls around from all directions. We’ll get to it someday, just not on top of the priority list. Shoveling off vehicles is just part of daily life for Alaskans. Be blessed. 😊
Hey friend! Suns rising about 9:10 and sets around 4:15. 😊 It changes every day. But it pays off Mid-June we get 20 hours if daylight with no real darkness. We have another month of the days getting shorter just yet. 😊

Good question. Its better to build up an ice/hard pack layer of snow at the beginning of the winter to plow on. Otherwise we just tear up the big plow on the uneven ground. And the snow doesn’t start melting til May. When we plow it builds up in giant piles which eventually narrows and block is our drivable space over the coarse of the winter. So, we trade off between throwing the snow as far as we can with the snowblower and piling it up with the plow. We have to designate a large portion of our drivable area to “snow dumps” like the one we made with the side by side plow. We’ve had just 2 decent snows so far and we have a long way to go til May. We don’t use sand for the steps, because in four seconds, it’ll snow on top of it, and then we’ll just have dirty ice to slip on. Ha! We use salt it anything. The best thing to do is just to keep the steps cleaned off and don’t let the snow buildup at all.

How many sheer pins do you go through a season? Do they break due to certain amount of hours used or is it only due to hitting rocks? Does the type of snow effect the snow blowing ability? Easier or harder with drier or wetter snow?
@@HoneyRowland yes, they sand the roads after they plow each time it snows. We used 4 pins in this video. But it’s always rough the first time or 2 until the snow pack develops.
@@HoneyRowland pins break due to force, not time. 😊 Wet snow is harder to throw. But dry super cold snow blows around. Get the most powerful snow blower you can afford. Some people like the ones with tracks better than tires, including us, but they are way more expensive.

We don’t use sand for the steps, because in four seconds, it’ll snow on top of it, and then we’ll just have dirty ice to slip on. Ha! We use salt it anything. The best thing to do is just to keep the steps cleaned off and don’t let the snow buildup at all.

I'm nosy. How many sheer pins do you go through a season? Do they break due to certain amount of hours used or is it only due to hitting rocks? Does the type of snow effect the snow blowing ability? Easier or harder with drier or wetter snow?
@@HoneyRowland yes, they sand the roads after they plow each time it snows. We used 4 pins in this video. But it’s always rough the first time or 2 until the snow pack develops.
@@HoneyRowland pins break due to force, not time. 😊 Wet snow is harder to throw. But dry super cold snow blows around. Get the most powerful snow blower you can afford. Some people like the ones with tracks better than tires, including us, but they are way more expensive.
