Yes, she made mistakes but to the people that complain.. Have you guys even seen the sheet of this? It's basically just notes flying around all across the paper. Plus, this is already hard even for a master pianist, the hand technique, tempo, nuances.. In my opinion she did a wonderful job!
Super impressed by her interpretation. Even if there were a few mistakes, it almost adds it in a weird sort of way. Makes it sound more human and more impressive some how. Her voicings on this song bring out different parts than some of the other pianists who play this and it makes it sound very unique and personalized.
I sometimes have a hard time reading the comments on such performances ( and maybe I should not). In my long live as a professional musician I have not come across many individuals who are able to do what Valentina is doing . She is full of passion, love and power. She displays honorable discipline and devotion. I would really like to see more respect and thankfulness towards people like here in this world instead of shameful and obvious jealousy. All I say is bravo Valentina...and thank you for bringing Liszt alive to new generations in our time.
lance They are closely related words but jealousy is more hate and thinking "If I can't do that, they shouldn't either! Screw them!" While envy is more like "I love this person's ability I wish I could do that. They're amazing!"
Yup, that's exactly how i got here too. Not that I need to WAIT 50 years, but it would TAKE years of learning/practice - just this song, say 2 hours a day, would probably take a year. Then I'd need to start practicing playing it faster.
I am a pianist. At first, I didn't like Valentina. I realized that I was just jealous of how amazing she is. She is boss level pianist yall. Now, I look up to her. I hope to at least play the first 10 seconds of the song as well as she did....(that may even be pushing it. I say the first note)
@@lalka2336 You might be misunderstanding what 19th century means. We currently live in the 21st century, 1901 to 2001 was the 20th century and 1701 to 1801 was the 18th century. Frans Liszt was born 1811 and died 1886, thus he lived in the 19th century. Think of it like this; if you lived in the first century that'd mean you lived during the first 100 years, aka between year 1 and year 101. Year 101 to 201 would be the second century and so on. It might be a bit confusing but I'm sure you'll get it.
I don't understand why people keep saying that she plays it like a machine and Lang Lang plays it with emotion, I can see A LOT of emotion when she plays it! I mean...It must have been hard to learn this piece, It took awhile but she accomplished her goal! Now let's not focus on that, Lets focus on how much emotion she has put into learning that peice. How would you feel about learning this peice FINALLY then showing it to thousands of people! No, You don't show off but show people how hard you worked to get there! Everyone has their own opinion but, We are all in the same level here. They can judge all they want but that's not gonna stop me from fighting for world peace!
Oh shit hi sis xD Your “Crazy” Twin is here, and that’s mE!!! But Jesus we actually did this piece together as a duet, thanks for making me dream the impossible, which is soon going to change. *btw I put a Sandwich in your closet for a year so yeah that’s why it smells bad*
I always get irritated at how people constantly try to put these two against each other. They are both people and have not spent their whole lives practicing so that they can tear each other apart.
Look, I wish to comment on Valentina Lisista's performance of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," since comments have been forbidden there. Valentina has been criticized for "playing too fast." I strongly disagree with this regarding this piece and others. We are looking at the finest technician of our age. There is no room for criticism. Her interpretations in all movements are lovely in every way. Movements one and two are executed with perfect precision. Movement three is beyond belief! Somebody stop her that other pianists may attempt to equal such a magnificent performance! This piece is MORE than perfect in every way! God bless you, Valentina, and thank you for your contributions to our world!!
Clamchucker I do think she plays too fast. This is not because I think she’s showing off or anything, just that it is evident to me there have occurred a few mistakes that I believe could have otherwise been avoided had she not played it at such a speed. The speed at which Li plays it, for instance, is in my opinion the perfect speed. There is no need to go faster, and it only increases the likelihood of making an error, which, even great pianists like herself can succumb to occasionally. I think there is a limit to how fast a piece of music can go before it ceases to sound better. Valentina approaches that limit.
Me too when I started piano in self-taught, I think it's one of the only pianist who is not arrogant and who sees the piano as a real passion and not only for the money
Imagine how long she must have practiced in order to make it look this easy. How much better can she really play this? Was this really her best run through? Imagine she walks off stage and she thinks to herself, Dang I played better than that yesterday. As if we could fathom it being better than it already is
For all those complaining about "mistakes", it is called interpretation, as in passion, as in creativity, as in the very mindset that allows for these masterpieces to be crafted in the first place. Musical genius is not parroting back the exact performance robotically time and time again. Believe it or not we already have machines that can do that far better than any human which can play pieces exactly every time. These are called recordings. Guaranteed anyone who views variety and interpretation as some sort of sin lacks the creative ability to compose anything for themselves. Again if you want perfect repetition listen to a machine.
+Jerad Clark Mistakes is not called "... interpretation, as in passion, as in creativity". Don't try to bullshit anyone; Yes, it is a great performance, yes, Lisitsa is one of the greater pianist as of now, but there are a lot of mistakes (due to the tempo). You could play passionately, AND play correctly as well. Does it matter? Perhaps not, but it is not passionate/creative/interpretive to make mistakes.
hey that might actually be true. i've heard accoustic chords piano works for this because the key rebounds so she is playing like a boxer hits a rebounding punching bag on the wall, in synch with the feedback frequency. Electric pianos don't have this effect and probably would be bad to play that.
And there be violinists and other musicians saying -" why do u make it sound like piano is the toughest instrument? Its very easy. The violin takes years to....." DUDE COME ON U CAN PLAY ON UR VERY OWN VIOLIN WHILE SITTING FOR EXAMS! We have to adjust FOR EXAMS like after playing twice on the piano at times. The height of the stool too is fixed. No hate for the violin and other instruments but the ignorant people. Agreed that piano is infact easy to produce a perfect note( what every kid does😒 BANGING MY KEYS😠) BUT MASTERING IS UHMMMMMM.
Dont worry this is the paganini version, which is like 4 times as hard as liszt's (did I spell that right?) version. There is an easy version of the original version that isnt too hard and even I can play it.
-First the speed of a plane -Then comes the speed of sound -Then the speed of sound passing through diamonds -then the speed of light -and finally the speed of Valentina Lisitsa’s fingers
Could you imagine Liszt himself playing this in a concert atmosphere🖤😯😮?!?!! With all his showmanship and flare and this very fast, intense piece!!?!!! Loooove it!!!!
And I thought Rousseau was good... Edit:Thanks for the likes! I believe that both were spectacular in their own way, however in my opinion, she plays with much more virtuosity, which is very needed in this piece, and for those saying she was too fast, i think this is the perfect speed. This is not really matter of who plays better or not, please don't argue, lol. Just expressing my opinion. And by the way, if your asking who is the best, it’s ling ling.
2:32 = Right hand : "Leave me alone" Left hand : "Umm... Okay" 2:35 = Left hand : "Hi" 2:39 = Left hand : "You still there?" 2:41 = Right hand : "Don't leave me alone :' "
The confidence in her and the way she owned every note she played, almost made me believe that she wrote the piece herself. Oh. My. God. You are amazing.
Challenge: Watch a performance of a difficult piece and try finding one that doesn't have one of these comments: "I can't even hit/play the wrong notes that fast" "He/she has more control over this piano than I have over my life" "If you can play it slowly/slow, you can play it quickly/fast" "I went Chopin but forgot my Liszt, so I went Bach home" "People told Beethoven he couldn't be a successful musician/composer/pianist, but did he listen?" "He/she plays faster than my internet" "- Are you right handed or left handed? - Yes" "The dislikes are from people who thought this was a tutorial" "I like the part where his/her fingers move" "Imagine getting in a text argument with them" "Composer: I paid for the whole piano, I'm gonna use the whole piano!" "INTERESTING" Anything Ling Ling related Yeah, it's *impossible* please do not attempt. Still if you want to, I wish you good luck..
I vaguely remember there being one (1) Alkan sonata i watched that had zero jokes like these but i can’t remember which one. The only one I’ve ever seen without these comments.
La Campanella is a famous classical music in Japan. Your performance of playing piano is excellent and the sound affects our hearts, moreover vibrates our souls❗️
what in the. I'm honestly scared how she is human. I'm getting goosebumps all over, that is the most incredible performance ever. Every note is so clear yet she plays it with the intensity and speed that I've always wanted to hear this piece be played at. Phenomenal!!
1:28 those incredible "butterfly fingers"... every single note shines like pearls in a collier and all with a sense of lightness defying gravity and weight.
Anyone who says Valentina is a robot who plays without feeling is just mad because she is a goddess on the piano. Her solo Rach at abbey road is some of my all time favorite music ever.
Talent requires discipline and sacrifice, It's not inborn nor done overnight nor gained in just a snap. one cannot be successful without sacrificing anything for that price.
@Ristar85 people are born with characteristics, and last time I checked being a pianist isn't a characteristic, you gain talent and skill through your life
Perusing over some of these extensive negatives comments it is evident that the world is rife with unskilled arm chair critics. It's truly disheartening. Stay positive and employ gratitude for this woman's ability to deliver sensational music. Bravo and encore.
This is by far the best interpretation on this piece I've ever heard. 👏👏👏 Every other interpretation I found on TH-cam by other very talented piano players, I could not listen to it for more than one minute before clicking away to listen to this one instead. To me, this is the benchmark for La Campanella.
not to be discouraging to anyone trying to learn this piece but I’ve listened to loads of different interpretations and performances of this piece, from regular people to other classical pianists and while other performances like lang lang’s are obviously incredible and impressive, I’ve never heard anyone match Valentina. Her clarity, tempo, and dynamics are just unparalleled.
Yes, you have to be an advanced pianist to appreciate how further beyond mastery of piano playing this is. Take a doctoral music student considered to be a huge talent or world famous pianists like Lang lang, and imagine what two leagues above that would be, and it is already into the realm of the impossible and yet here is someone who would be a master of masters.
It's mesmerising to watch someone so perfectly mastering their "work". I have goosebumps across my whole body, hair and teeth included. Absolutely wonderful art. Of both Liszt and Lisitsa rising to heaven in levels of synergy never thought possible.
Вы счастливый человек....бог ,природа и ваши корни дали вам задаток ,который неимоверным трудом...и любовью к своему делу...Вы вложили в рамки своего ремесла ,раздвинув рамки и подарив просто музыку....спасибо
She's very good. I think her tempo is a bit fast, but that is a matter of personal taste, not a criticism of the validity of her play. If she made mistakes (and I'm not sure she did because I'm not a pianist) at least she played the selection in public and it was recorded as she played it. Many times such pieces are recorded in studios and you don't get to hear any miscues or flubs, because the artist simply keeps doing it over until they get it perfect. Playing in front of a live audience and having it recorded in front of an audience takes a good deal of confidence and courage.
You'd be surprised with how much work actually goes into mastering these pieces. Many classical musicians will spend several months mastering the dynamics of a piece like this; of course it all depends on skill. There are many live exhibitions in which people play without missing a note because they've invested so much detail into each measure. Really amazing.
dee coe She does play it amazingly well, but on several parts it feels she is banging the piano instead of playing it. Also, the tempo is too fast, and she makes quite a lot of tiny mistakes on the larger chords or on the octaves jump. They are rarely felt but nonetheless, if the tempo is fast, it's hard to play this piece without mistakes
Gilad Peleg On parts of this song... You have to 'bang' the keys to make it sound like it should. Especially the last page, and around 3:18. But that last page... I don't think you can understand unless you've tried playing it yourself. It takes a mountain of focus to play, let alone try to make it sound like she played it.... Personal struggles..
+dee coe Without knowing the piece, I feel like she hit a couple high notes too late. At 4:18 and 4:20 she was supposed to hit two at the same time, but didn't. Maybe a good pianist can look that up and confirm or correct my gut feeling?
I felt every emotion coursing throughout this - and yet she maintained razor sharp focus and composure. How can anyone perform like this??? She changed us all in a few minutes. I still have shivers.

"Just" La Campanella? Only an Asian would say "just" when talking about that song (or any of Liszt's pieces).

Yes I would say "just" I'd play a more energetic, fiery, virtuosic piece like and etude from Liszt or Chopin

I am a pianist. At first, I didn't like Valentina. I realized that I was just jealous of how amazing she is. She is boss level pianist yall. Now, I look up to her. I hope to at least play the first 10 seconds of the song as well as she did....(that may even be pushing it. I say the first note)
I felt the same way the first time I heard Un Sospiro the first time.
She sucks
The first 10 seconds she didn't even start playing😂
2:41 here comes the 19th century Dubstep
Best comment 😂
Oh can you hear that too? I just figured my internet couldn't keep up and was lowering the bitrate.
Pretty damn sure Liszt is 18th not 19th century

Lang Lang cannot be compared to her! He tries to pretend to be cool, whereas she is a pure genius!
I always get irritated at how people constantly try to put these two against each other. They are both people and have not spent their whole lives practicing so that they can tear each other apart.
Artem Smirnov idiot, cant accept anything.

@@erickeduardo8373 mano cala a boca
Clamchucker I do think she plays too fast. This is not because I think she’s showing off or anything, just that it is evident to me there have occurred a few mistakes that I believe could have otherwise been avoided had she not played it at such a speed. The speed at which Li plays it, for instance, is in my opinion the perfect speed. There is no need to go faster, and it only increases the likelihood of making an error, which, even great pianists like herself can succumb to occasionally. I think there is a limit to how fast a piece of music can go before it ceases to sound better. Valentina approaches that limit.
Me: oh my God, i really want to play like her

Imagine how long she must have practiced in order to make it look this easy. How much better can she really play this? Was this really her best run through? Imagine she walks off stage and she thinks to herself, Dang I played better than that yesterday. As if we could fathom it being better than it already is
Shes is kinda genious at piano like few ppl in the world maybe it was not that dificult for her like we all commom human beings
At no point does this look easy lmao
+ErkaaJ To play a wrong note is unimportant; but to play without passion is unexcusable!. L.V.Beethoven circa 1819
Did you even read what I said?
i wasent against you in any way, i was only sharing my part
+Jerad Clark You are quite wrong. Mistakes are NOT interpretation. Mistakes are mistakes. And there are plenty here.
I bet there are pianos she can't play on because the keys need too long to get back in the neutral position
hey that might actually be true. i've heard accoustic chords piano works for this because the key rebounds so she is playing like a boxer hits a rebounding punching bag on the wall, in synch with the feedback frequency. Electric pianos don't have this effect and probably would be bad to play that.
You can still play it, i play piano and have played a lot of pieces on different pianos and it'll work if yo just force it
Grand pianos have double escapement, soooo
And there be violinists and other musicians saying -" why do u make it sound like piano is the toughest instrument? Its very easy. The violin takes years to....."
DUDE COME ON U CAN PLAY ON UR VERY OWN VIOLIN WHILE SITTING FOR EXAMS!

Could you imagine Liszt himself playing this in a concert atmosphere🖤😯😮?!?!! With all his showmanship and flare and this very fast, intense piece!!?!!! Loooove it!!!!
I've a strong feeling that Valentina is playing Liszts piece better here than he could manage...

Every other interpretation I found on TH-cam by other very talented piano players, I could not listen to it for more than one minute before clicking away to listen to this one instead.

You probably don't understand how hard the first page is until you try it. None stop 10-16 keys jump for the right hand.
@STC It’s still pretty easy though. Especially when you’ve learnt the pattern and you have pretty big hands.
They are rarely felt but nonetheless, if the tempo is fast, it's hard to play this piece without mistakes
dee coe I like it at this tempo, reinforces Liszt's spirit almost.
