      Many great artists lived that way, especially the musicians. They endure much suffering in their lives in order to convey emotions in abstract form. Artists eventually embrace their suffering because it is the source of their creation. Beethoven went nuts and deaf after an abusive childhood, Mozart was a gambler alcoholic in debt robbed of a playful childhood, Chopin was bipolar and emotional wreck, and JSB had botched baroque eye surgery that left him blind. Tis the journey of the artist.

    This ensemble is a real class act. Period instruments, a perfectly balanced sound with a robust basso continuo. They breathe historic authenticity. But most of all they play so well. Most classical music listeners have heard these concerti played quite a lot, but they haven't heard it played like this. Winter is probably the most compelling of the concerti, and we are are unlikely to ever hear it played better than this live performance by Voices of Music.

  • @AlexDeLarge1
    @AlexDeLarge1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2476

    Most of them are playing instruments from the 1700s, and one of the cellos is from 1673. Five years before Vivaldi was even born. We are hearing the same sounds here that they heard back then.

    I've heard a lot of Vivaldi's Winter, but Mrs. Cynthia definitely tops the hat. The sparse opening is usually played with too much force, making the violin crunch a lot, but she managed to rope out such power without being too massive on the strings, which is amazing because the clarity and the strength of the music sounds just like the cold itself. It's amazing that she made all the harsh sounds of winter so effortless, while keeping emotions on the warm part of the music. And definitely I bow and commend the final movement where she lets all the emotions out, truly amazing, this is literally (and most probably) the hundred time I repeated this recording already. Thank you VoM for recording this masterpiece!!!

      Hey there, sorry to interject, i'm a newbie in classical music, and even if this interpretation give me the chills and the tears by his beauty i still prefer Mari Samuelsen's version...i'm i wrong somewhere? I don't understand all the technique behind the violin, it just trigger my soul that's why i love it.

    • @VoicesofMusic
      @VoicesofMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +62

      Mari's version is totally great, and in art whether it is music or painting one can go into a room and have a favorite painting or artists. There's a subtle factor here which is the baroque violin is really different from the modern violin, as they are separated by three hundred years of development, so in a way it;s like comparing a piano to an electric piano, they are both cool, but they require different techniques. And each performance reveals something interesting about the music.
      One of the differences is the bow. The baroque bow--and the player--shapes each phrase as an arc instead of sustaining the music lines all the way to the end. This creates a harmonic space for the other instruments in the orchestra to interact with the soloist so it is more of a music conversation than prepared remarks. This also allows for improvisation, which you see in baroque music and in Jazz, but not, typically, in a modern performance. So there are differences.

    There’s an incredible atmosphere, and within it, artists who seem to have been placed there with the precise hand of a master painter. You can feel so clearly that they are not just playing the music, but truly living the emotions Vivaldi himself experienced. The intensity with which they embody these feelings reaches deep into their bones. As I listen, I can’t help but feel that same emotion, and for that, I want to offer my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to them. The Allegro non molto section really brings out the sharp, biting cold. And then, when they shift into the Largo and the pace slows down, it’s like a sudden change. As they pause and turn the page, it feels like being pulled out of the trance of winter, back into the warmth of reality.

    I came back to this beautiful masterpiece after watching Honkai Star Rail’s Kafka trailer. The moment I listened to the bgm I knew it was Vivaldi straight away 😆.
    I love classical music in general and Vivaldi is one of my favorite composer’s, I was so happy when they sampled some of his pieces for the trailer (//∇//).
    If y’all are wandering the trailer sampled 2 Vivaldi pieces, the beginning of the trailer sample the first part in Vivaldi Winter, meanwhile the ending of the trailer (it started when she showed her ultimate) sample the last part of Vivaldi Summer.
    Also I really love the way this video puts captions like it’s telling a story about the music

      If you look up Canon in D the tune is actually different and it’s not in Kafka’s trailer.
      Even so hoyoverse has actually sampled Canon in D in the actual game cutscene where Kafka first invaded the Space Station (the part when you started the game for the very first time) (^∇^)

    Hoyoverse (and some other studios) uses classical music, opera, and traditional instruments from various countries and put a modern (or futuristic) twist to them for their character trailers (in this case, they used this piece in the Kafka trailer in HSR), cutscenes, battle themes, and boss fights. It makes them more enjoyable for the current generation and people who don't have the taste for these kind of music. It, *kinda* immortalizes these classical masterpieces and various traditional way of making music in a way I guess.

      I always thought that Vivaldi's four seasons was iconic though? Though I guess there's gonna be even more views because of Kafka lol. I've always really liked the winter section of this music though, it's intense, dramatic, and passionate, it's a really fitting piece for a character like Kafka, I just didn't expect them to use an actual classical piece for her trailer, though I'm not complaining lol.

    • @Lxtus_
      @Lxtus_ ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@art.s.0 It always was, however I don't think the "Clasiscal music scene" and the "Addicted mobile gacha game player" has that much overlap. I think my first time I myself realised it was Vivaldi was in John Wick chapter 3, but in my rewatch they've also used Winter in John Wick 2.
      But yeah Vivaldi has become a pop culture icon because it's a vivid way of high culture that everyone can appreciate in their action scenes, including but not limited to Kafka's trailer. (But really, watch some action movies that have a hint of high culture in it and you'll find Vivaldi in 40% of them, and I'm kinda sick of it myself ngl)
