Hi, just ordered my Tesla and used your link based on all your informative videos you have earned those 1000 supercharger miles. Thank you so much. So I have been in touch with Rolec as I need a pod installed at home. Did they also get you an electrician to fit it or how did you go about it? Cheers
@@SpawnPoiint thanks Rolec arranged an installer for next Monday. I got the tethered. However, I'm worried about theft of the cable being on front of my house. Have you secured yours in any way? Maybe I'm paranoid but a few months back thieves stole my catalytic converter while my car was on my drive.
Hey, I've been loving your Tesla videos recently! I live in the Yorkshire area too, I was wondering what company you'd used to install your Rolec charger, I've had a look online and they all look to be more than what you paid.
Hi Matthew. I went direct to Rolec, who then outsourced it to McNally Electrical in Leeds. But Rolec should put you in touch with your closest installer. I know the grant has changed recently, so it's £150 more expensive now.
Another really useful video thank you. I had only looked at pod point so far, Also my current British Gas deal is up in two weeks so good time to look at an alternative based on the numbers you mentioned. Hopefully my model 3 will be here in September, I do live quite close to Superchargers but I think the home charger is worth the investment based on the fact that I’d pay that back in lack of company car tax in 5 weeks.
C W Not to mention that Germany is still heavily reliant on coal fired power stations while in the U.K. last year only 1 percent of the entire annual generation was coal fired.
Taking delivery of a Model 3 this month I've just moved to Octopus in preparation but not the Go tariff because you have to start on a normal one will your referral code still work. I've ordered an Andersen charger because of the aesthetics 😬
Tesla does also sell another adapter for 240v that allows 30 mi/hr charge with the mobile charger for $35(at least in US) not sure what voltages used where you are
Hopefully on a future software update, Tesla will set the charging limit screen to allow you to set a exact percentage using a number with up or down increments.
Didn't you get the Tesla wall charger for free with the car. When I bought my S, they sent me the charger pre delivery. So I have it installed before the car arrived. I only paid the sparky. My mate got one free with his 3 It's great to have a charger at home, even though I rarely use it, because I charge at work or the mall. Free supercharger once a week helps as well. Although there supercharger in Brisbane is quite slow. For the next video, have you considered buying a key fob? I find it handy with summoning and unlocking the boot and frunk.
Hey Chris! Took delivery last week and loving my Model 3 so far. I've heard that it is good practice to leave your Tesla plugged in all the time as 'a plugged in Tesla is a happy Tesla' as Elon said. Do you do this at all? Or always leave unplugged between charges? Also - what phantom drain are you seeing overnight if its not plugged in?
Lucky you getting the full £500 OLEV chargepoint grant - now it’s £350 from the updated government guidance for the UK so please add £150 to your costings 😊
Hi. Do you still recommend the Rolec charger? I am looking for a way to input your tariff and see exact costs and so far seems theirs is the only one? I heard some reliability issues?
One thing it maybe worth pointing out is if you’re on a looped electric supply. I’ve got a pod point on order and they’ve said it can’t be installed until my electricity provider (SSE) de-loop my supply. They’ve also mentioned that this could potentially cost north of £1500!!! I’m now waiting on a quote from SSE. 😢
@@SpawnPoiint My house was built in 2008 and is semi detached. Apparently this looping of supplies was a cost cutting measure by the power companies. I'm not sure how common it is but it's worth checking your supply before you end up with a £50k car on the drive and only a granny charger at hand!
Great video. Thanks very much. About to take on Octopus with new house. Will use your code. Do you know if the Go tariff is still the best for EV ownership and is it a fixed price? Struggling with their site.
Thanks Lee. I'm still using GO as it's best for my use. But I know a lot also use Agile. Have a look on the Tesla forums for more indepth details on costs etc. But for me GO works best.
Loving the vids, I’m looking at which charger to use and was going to get the Tesla wall charger but you don’t get the grant. Would you recommend the one you have over others or should I go for the Tesla one anyway?
I would buy one in a heartbeat if i could but currently I'm living in a top floor flat with street parking so at home charging isn't currently an option for me :(
Such an amazing video with lots of information 😇 quick question mate... if my home to work is about 18 miles how often do you think I should charge the Tesla ? Thinking about getting the car soon that’s why.
Hello Paul, is that 18 miles each way (36 miles) or 18 total (9+9)? I'd estimate you'd need to charge every 5 days, so once a week, if it's 36 miles a day.
I contacted Rolec after your video. The quote on the site said £619 with installation. I received a email putting me in touch with a installer. They quoted £823! £200 difference. My installation is a simple one, as the fuse box is against the wall where the charger is. When you applied for this charger did they direct you to a installer? And they charged the listed price on the site? Thanks
Can you get the home charger fitted and get the UK Gov OLEV grant if you don’t already have your car? Am thinking I’d want mine installed and ready for use pretty much as soon as I get the car but saw the terms of getting the grant say that you must own an EV?
Good video, mate. What are your thoughts on SoC for this long period of doing nowt? Many are saying to leave it at 80% but that goes against everything I've ever read about battery care, particularly the lithium based chemistry. I'm keeping mine at 50-55% whilst it's sat here potentially for 3 months. I won't be going anywhere in it most likely.
Great question. I'm leaving mine at around 50% too. It's currently at 47%, and I'll charge it every couple of weeks. It's not moved in nearly 2 weeks now, but I've got a food click-and-collect this weekend, so it's an excuse for a ~20 mile round trip.
SpawnPoiint I suspect to keep it below the new £50k OLEV limit. Totally different subject, do you mind me asking wheee you for your boots spoiler please?
Hey, I forgot to add the referral link in octopus and it is giving me the opportunity to do it retrospectively. What’s the code? As clicking the link takes me to sign up - which I’ve already done. Cheers
Used your code just now, just curious, is the Go tariff exactly the same but with the 4 cheap hours at night, or are the other rates increased to compensate? I see it's a BETA product that's all, hard to get info on it. Even if I don't use it Octopus is cheaper than my current supplier so it's all good.
Awesome thank you. One reason was the OLEV grant doesn’t apply to it. And the other was i wasn’t sure if it would be compatible with non Tesla’s in the future.
i really want to get a tesla as well, but one thing that worries me is if i’m somewhere and the car stops all of a sudden or how long the charging will take. i feel like tesla has many pros and cons but the cons worry me most.
SpawnPoiint these might sound ridiculous in a way but it’s just my opinion 😭 1) the time it takes for the car to charge 2) if the car all of a sudden runs out of battery in the middle of somewhere (when the gas station isn’t close until many more miles) * i had other cons to but for some reason i can’t think of them, but there are a lot of features that i really think are cool and unique.
So charging is your issue 😂. How often do you drive more than 250 miles in a single day? Every day? I charge at home, so I wake up every morning with a full (80%) charge and ready to go. In the off chance I need to do more than 250 miles, a supercharger will sort me out in 40 minutes. And 250 miles will take me, what, 4-5hours to drive? I’m ready for a break then.
Hey, love your videos very useful... I have recently been offered a company car and with electric its currently only 1% BIK rate.. therefore it seems a no brainier to get a Tesla model 3 (long range) as it will only cost me 1% of the value per year in tax, cheap as chips!..... However as a self proclaimed 'petrol head' I am a little worried I will get bored with the lack of noise and perhaps lack of 'sportiness'? What are your thoughts for someone thinking of switching from petrol (Golf R) to a full EV? Thanks! Edit* - also why do you not charge to 100% each night... would it not be better to always have full juice 'in case' you need it?
Thanks for watching. I had a bmw 335i before, and although the initial change felt strange going from a petrol/noisy exhaust to this, I quickly forgot about it. This definitely feels sporty if you drive it that way, no body roll, fast acceleration, handles well. But if you like the noise, pops, downshifts etc then it will take some getting used to. As for charging, it’s just recommended to keep it below 80% unless making a long trip. Also helps with regenerative braking.
@@SpawnPoiint Thanks for the quick reply, one final question is I have a big of a heavy right foot... will I see a dramatically reduced range due to driving with a bit of a lead foot - I'm not saying I do 0-60 from every set of lights, but I do tend to accelerate harder than perhaps the average person, or will it still avg. a semi decent range? Many thanks!
Did you worry, before you commit to a Tesla 3, that if you just waited that bit longer, another newer version would soon be available? Similar to buying an iPhone. That anxiety that next month/year there will be another model available
Never. It only came to the U.K. a few months before I got it. So I’m technically one of the first to get it. Sure I could wait, but then that’s 1/2/3 years of Model 3 driving I’ve missed out on.
@@SpawnPoiint it's a stunning car and obviously without doubt, the way of the future. I just hope the price reduces in the future so it's the only logical solution for everyone. Cheers for answering me btw! Best wishes
And what about the thousands of car owners who live in tall blocks of flats or terraced houses and can't park their car within 50 yards of their homes?
Are you sure you can control the start AND end time from the car? I thought it was one or the other and you have to rely on one of those times along with the charge you want to add for the car to work out the opposite time?
You can chose the start or the end time. I normally do the start time and by looking at how long it will take you know the charge time. So say you were on 50% and it says 2.5 hours to charge you can adjust the slider to increase or decrease that
Nothing at all. Someone could pull up and plug it in. You can buy locks or I could switch it off at the fuse box (while away) though. I haven't felt the need to though.
Good video. My question is you appear I think to have a garage why did you not fit your charger in the garage? I have the long range model 3 and a pod point charger with cable attached and a garage instal keeps you dry in all weathers, the cable is always ready to fix on and in the cold snowy weather the battery is warmer. I have just changed to octopus go but waiting for the smart meter needed to get the 5p rate. I was with Scottish power with similar 5p off peak but only if you are dual fuel ( I have no gas) Scottish power insist you burn gas to get the ev tariff how GREEN is that NOT. Oh and up here in Scotland you get an additional £300 grant when you instal a home charger so my net net cost was under £100 installed.
Although my car does fit in the garage, I rarely use it now, with my children being in and out of the garage most days. it’s just more convenient to have it by the side door, and also means I can have the car parked at the top or bottom of the drive and the cable reaches.
I'm young and this might be a stupid question, but it keeps bugging me. Someone can't just come up and like take the whole charging system attached to your wall right? And like is there a way to pass code the charger so only certain people could use it if you lived in a more open area accessible to others
The charger is hardwired into the house, so unless you were an electrician and turned the power off, you couldn't taken it. Once it's plugged into the car, you cannot unplug it unless the car is unlocked. But if the car isn't plugged in, any car could pull up and use the cable. However if you use the app you can limit it to times so mine is limited to only work between 12.30am - 4.30am when I need it.
It says in the manual that the car should as often as possible be connected to a charger with about 80-85% max battery for daily use. don't leave it unplugged for days on end just because you have enough %
I picked up my new Tesla just over a week ago and am waiting for a tethered Zappi charger to be installed, it was delayed due to the current situation. However, I only received the cable and adaptor in the zip case that enables home charging. I did not receive another cable i.e. the blue one in your video. I did question this at the dealership but they said its the only one that came with the car. I am just wondering if this is right.
@@SpawnPoiint I also did not receive the blue cable this March, but after a phone call to the Tesla branch where I picked up the car (Edinburgh), they sent me one for delivery next day with no trouble at all. Very impressed with the service. I did not get the caravan plug which was mentioned though (not bothered).
Can you message or send your full Octopus referral link? I signed up already by mistake and need the complete URL which TH-cam masked with (...). Thanks
Hi another question sorry :). Are the tethered leads that long? Just wondering in case a home electrical point has to be put a bit further on the side of the house than on front where my drive is. Cheers
SpawnPoiint you should go to a shop to re adjust them, the European regulations for headlights are different than ones for USA so sometimes the light can be pointing higher than intended!
Hello mate! just signed up to octopus, forget to use a referral link but I can still enter your code if you have one? Also how easy have u found the rolec app to set up just to charge in the 5p rate time slot?
Hello, try using clean-bloom-931, that will work. Yes the app is easy to use, once setup you just plug it in and it'll charge each night. You can override it with a boost if you need to.
@@SpawnPoiint I have a rolec charger now and it only allows me to set a ready by time and will randomly charge throughout the day/night is there a way to ensure it only charges during these times?

just signed up to ocotopus go through your link and will be using your link for my tesla order next month!
Awesome, thanks for the support.
Hi, just ordered my Tesla and used your link based on all your informative videos you have earned those 1000 supercharger miles. Thank you so much. So I have been in touch with Rolec as I need a pod installed at home. Did they also get you an electrician to fit it or how did you go about it? Cheers
Thank you and enjoy the new car. I contacted Rolec and they sourced the electrician for me.
When the car is unlocked, you can also press the button on the Tesla plug to stop charging and unlock the charge port.
The electricity prices in the UK are much lower than in Germany. Good for you and thank you for another great video.
What sort of prices are you paying there?
SpawnPoiint about 18p per kWh and that is a reduced rate for an EV.
C W Not to mention that Germany is still heavily reliant on coal fired power stations while in the U.K. last year only 1 percent of the entire annual generation was coal fired.
Great video mate👍🏻
Thank you mate, I appreciate the speedy comment!
Great idea, would certainly make it easier.
Hey Chris,
My Tesla is on its way thanks to your referral code I switched from bulb to octopus enjoy that free £50 worth of electricity yayy 😊👌
Awesome to hear. Thank you too 🙏
Great vid, so helpful., thank you.
Afew more years of battery technology and I think I'll be ready to buy
Hi, recently it's been plugged in all the time as it's not moving much. Phantom is minimal, not even noticeable.
@@SpawnPoiint How much power does it use once it is left plugged in and has reached its specified state of charge?
Practically nothing at all, it won’t trigger a charge unless it drops percentage, and even then we’re talking a few pence would be my guess.
Lucky you getting the full £500 OLEV chargepoint grant - now it’s £350 from the updated government guidance for the UK so please add £150 to your costings 😊
During the lockdown it is best to keep the charge limit to 50% and keep the car on charge.
Shut up nerd
Erhhk fuck off
Hello great video very informative, what length is the mobile charger cable? Thanks
Who did you order from and who fitted it, thanks good vid.
Hi. Do you still recommend the Rolec charger? I am looking for a way to input your tariff and see exact costs and so far seems theirs is the only one? I heard some reliability issues?
Yes definitely. I believe the early ones had issues, mine is fine and works really well.
How common is having a looped supply? Is this related to a certain house type, or age of house?
I love the look of the Tesla one, but I like the flexibility of the Rolec one and the app integration with EV.Energy etc.
Maybe you could camp in your car but on the drive or leave camp mode on all night to see now much energy use it takes.
Very nice video. Thank you 😊😊👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you too
I would buy one in a heartbeat if i could but currently I'm living in a top floor flat with street parking so at home charging isn't currently an option for me :(
Such an amazing video with lots of information 😇 quick question mate... if my home to work is about 18 miles how often do you think I should charge the Tesla ? Thinking about getting the car soon that’s why.
Hello Paul, is that 18 miles each way (36 miles) or 18 total (9+9)? I'd estimate you'd need to charge every 5 days, so once a week, if it's 36 miles a day.
SpawnPoiint oh yes it’d be 36 miles together you are correct. So once a week charge is good enough?
Yes once a week for work purposes will be fine, then probably a little more for the weekend.
Thanks
How easy was it to get the OLEV grant? Or was it all through Rolec installation?
The companies do that on your behalf.
Great video
Good video! Just a heads up, the blue commando adapter is now longer included. You can still but it from Tesla though.
Ah no way. Wow they are removing items on a monthly basis it seems 😔
SpawnPoiint I suspect to keep it below the new £50k OLEV limit. Totally different subject, do you mind me asking wheee you for your boots spoiler please?
It’s from a seller on eBay who no longer sells them unfortunately
Hi its a good video but I think you didn't explain the kamado plug i think
One of the best cars money can buy.. Anyone still buying things like rs4's, m3's etc.. Are off their nuts lol
Great vid, thank you.
Nice charge information 👍 did you konw that you almost have the same voice as Simon gruber from die Hard 😆😊👍
I’m British not German 😂
Hey, I forgot to add the referral link in octopus and it is giving me the opportunity to do it retrospectively. What’s the code? As clicking the link takes me to sign up - which I’ve already done. Cheers
share.octopus.energy/clean-bloom-931 there you got mate.
SpawnPoiint legend thanks pal - all done ✅
Hi I have tried your Octopus Energy referral link but it is not valid, is the link correct?
I've just clicked it (share.octopus.energy/clean-bloom-931) and it worked for me. Can you try again?
What’s your number plate mate? Looks great!
How are you getting 30 miles per hour charge when the current is set to 16A?
Used your code just now, just curious, is the Go tariff exactly the same but with the 4 cheap hours at night, or are the other rates increased to compensate? I see it's a BETA product that's all, hard to get info on it. Even if I don't use it Octopus is cheaper than my current supplier so it's all good.
Have just used your referral code. Great vids mate. Any particular reason you didn't go for the tesla charger?
Awesome thank you. One reason was the OLEV grant doesn’t apply to it. And the other was i wasn’t sure if it would be compatible with non Tesla’s in the future.
i really want to get a tesla as well, but one thing that worries me is if i’m somewhere and the car stops all of a sudden or how long the charging will take. i feel like tesla has many pros and cons but the cons worry me most.
What are the cons that worry you? From my ~10 months so far, there are none.
SpawnPoiint these might sound ridiculous in a way but it’s just my opinion 😭
1) the time it takes for the car to charge
2) if the car all of a sudden runs out of battery in the middle of somewhere (when the gas station isn’t close until many more miles)
* i had other cons to but for some reason i can’t think of them, but there are a lot of features that i really think are cool and unique.
Hi always watch your videos. I picked up my company model 3 this week. Does the referral still apply even though I used a leasing company?
Thank you for watching. Yes a referral should still work, as it’s your account that gets the miles not the car itself.
@@SpawnPoiint great how do I do it?
You can only give the code before signing for the car. Once delivery has happened they won’t add it unfortunately.
@@SpawnPoiint 😟
Do you have a link for this? I need to order one!
Best wishes
How did you arrange the adhesive font plate and stop them drilling your front bumper
I bought them from Pro Plates 🙂
And what about the thousands of car owners who live in tall blocks of flats or terraced houses and can't park their car within 50 yards of their homes?
Are you sure you can control the start AND end time from the car? I thought it was one or the other and you have to rely on one of those times along with the charge you want to add for the car to work out the opposite time?
You can chose the start or the end time. I normally do the start time and by looking at how long it will take you know the charge time. So say you were on 50% and it says 2.5 hours to charge you can adjust the slider to increase or decrease that
So for a third party charger what is the best to plug in/ unplug since you don’t have that button? Thanks!
All 3rd party chargers will work in the same way. But as long as the car is unlocked, you just press the panel on the side, and it'll open anyway.
Is there anything to prevent other people from using your home charger (if it's not within a garage, behind a fence)?
Nothing at all. Someone could pull up and plug it in. You can buy locks or I could switch it off at the fuse box (while away) though. I haven't felt the need to though.
@@SpawnPoiint Thank you. Keep up the good work. I don't even drive, but I find your videos very informative and clear.
Will it stop charging when it reaches the limit you set? Also isn’t the evening rate for octopus only 4 hours?
Yes it will stop charging if you set it up in the app.
Yes it’s only for 4 hours which is ~120 hours a night, more than enough for my daily needs.
Do you have the long range? Also, I don't have a garage, can I charge the car while it's raining?
Yes I do, the car works fine when raining too. It's designed for all weather.
Hi Chris, any update on the model Y you ordered?
None yet. Looking like mid-2022. I went Performance this time, so won't be in the first batch of LR orders.
That has nothing to do with the longevity of the battery.
Does this apply to pretty much any EV?
I picked up my new Tesla just over a week ago and am waiting for a tethered Zappi charger to be installed, it was delayed due to the current situation. However, I only received the cable and adaptor in the zip case that enables home charging. I did not receive another cable i.e. the blue one in your video. I did question this at the dealership but they said its the only one that came with the car. I am just wondering if this is right.
You should definitely have received the blue cable, unless they've removed it very recently.
I think the commando adapter is no longer supplied.
@@robertconn1555 I got mine delivered on 13th march and didn't get the blue industrial adapter

Could you share or where I can find, supercharger referral number/code please? Ordering mine Friday 15th October
Is their much difference between the partial-premium interior on the standard range and the premium interior on the others in the range?
The actual interior isn’t different, but the sound system is the main difference, along with fog lights and premium connectivity.

Hi another question sorry :). Are the tethered leads that long? Just wondering in case a home electrical point has to be put a bit further on the side of the house than on front where my drive is. Cheers
For the Rolec? Mine has the standard length, but you can pay more for longer leads at installation.
@@SpawnPoiint thanks

What’s the car like when driving at night, are the lights bright enough?
They are too bright you could say. The number of people who flash me is unreal.
Can confirm. The headlights are really bright and powerful. Didn't run into flashing people tho.

It’s not bad at all. Just not recommended regularly. Elon Musk himself said it’s fine.
My 2018 M3 is perfect... well almost perfect. I do not do over the air audio just play tunes on my iPhone. HOWEVER on 2-3 occasions the phone plays the music but the audio is mute. When music is playing but mute, pick up you phone and call a # that will be answered by a robot ie a discontinued #
I called my now defunct landline and the music starts to play albeit distorted and soft. Once I hung up the call it went back to normal. This is a very rare bug and might even have been fixed with software updates but good to know if you should every be unlucky enough to run up on this.
