He's singular. He's Zelig. He was everywhere first. He wrote immediately ancient songs in his youth. He continues to write timely songs in his old age. No one else like him.

I will try to check out this business about his grandson if you could send me any links that would be really great .
.... but if anybody thinks that he is involved with the shadow government or what people now call Deep State , you are very very wrong .
.... just because someone has a grandson that might act crazy does not mean he condones it any more than anybody else condones what their kids or grandchildren do .

Bob Dylan explained prejudice and politics with poetry in the 60's. He did not want to lead a political movement but he did say what needed to be said. We need this kind of honesty now again.

@@forogafold I don't think it's necessarily about evading the truth, it's just that's it's not immediately obvious that that this is an anti-racism song, of course it is if you actually listen to the lyrics but lines like "you're better than them you've been born with white skin" can easily be taken out of context by someone not fully paying attention. I agree it was pretty bold of Dylan to play this particular song, but so powerful as it was received correctly.

Yep it's really INCREDIBLE... and the SPIRIT that was there IS WHAT IS GOING ON NOW IN AMERICA .. PEOPLE HAVE HAD ENOUGH ... They're going to OVERTHROW ALL those DARK CREATURES and THE LEGISLATORS who have been STABBING GOOD AMERICAN PEOPLE IN THE BACK ..
. it's too late for them to RECANT ...
      BESIDES , they WON'T AND THEY CAN'T .
.... So let's send them down into HELL
where they really belong and their own deeds will drag them THERE ... OH WELL .
... I don't have sympathy for them , but I shall certainly say PRAYERS for those FORMALLY GOOD MEN , and women ,too.
because they're going to need to know we are hoping they will SEE THE LIGHT
and SOMEHOW crawl up out of the Dark of The BLACKEST NIGHT .
AMEN to them I say who have been unmasked By the LIGHT OF DAY .
Too bad they STAYED and betrayed themselves... too long with the SHADOWS of which they should have been AFRAID ....
.... with OUR American Blood and Bones and TEARS they paid while They begged for MORE VOTES due to their LOVE of MONETARY NOTES .
Now THEIR OWN GREED will EAT THEM ALIVE .... there is NOTHING they can do and no place can they HIDE .
.... those people are all in for a very bumpy , HARSH RIDE .
And too bad for them , too; WE are TURNING THE TIDE back on to their ROTTEN AMBITIONS ...
..... it serves them right , they gave us plenty of AMMUNITION .

He's the greatest song writer there ever was probably, but he's not a poet. Songs and poetry are cousins, but they aren't the same thing. What makes Dylans lyrics achieve their full greatness is the music and his voice. On the page, they're actually pretty flat. And yes, there have been many poets who did have such an impact. The Romantics of the 19th century, for example. There was also T.S. Eliot, William Carlos Williams, and Walt Whitman. There were several great American poets writing when Dylan was on his rise, like James Wright and Sylvia Plath, and when he was given the Nobel, like John Ashbury and Yusef Kumanyakaa. The Nobel was instituted in order to give recognition to great novelists, poets, and dramatists, and considering how little attention is given to the worlds great writers, it was actually a slap in the face to the whole spirit of the Nobel to give it to Dylan because Dylan is literally one of the most famous cultural figures that has ever existed. He has received every major prize a singer/song writer can be given, which is much deserved, but he didn't deserve nor need the Nobel. Dylan himself was perplexed by getting the award, too. Rockstars get more recognition and celebration than any other group of artists on the planet. Something needs to be given to the many great and equal artists, like actual poets, novelists, and dramatists, especially now since people read less now more than ever. Dylan is not a poet and he never claimed to be a poet because he's a singer and musician, which again is not the same thing as being a poet.

    22. He was 22 years old. In 3:32 seconds he was able to distill the issue into pure, plain, profound truth. He never liked being called the spokesman for a generation, probably because those people got killed. Sadly this song is still perfect, as he said in Desolation Row, "rearrange their faces and give them all another name".

No, MLK was directly preceded by Rabbi Joachim Prinz, a refugee from Nazi Germany who became involved in the civil rights struggle the year he arrived in the U.S., in 1937. In his speech he said , ""the most urgent, the most disgraceful, the most shameful and the most tragic problem is silence.” He followed the gospel singer Mahalia Jackson. Bob’s choice of song was controversial because it technically absolves the actual murderer of Medgar Evers and pins the blame on the political system in the South. Many people in the mostly black audience wouldn’t have been thrilled with this, and it’s probably a good thing for Bob that a good portion of the crowd wasn’t listening.

    • @LabGoats

@@haroldsteinblatt2567 I think the implication of the song is that government, establishment media, & business elite historically exacerbate racism in order to pit the lower classes against each other so that they never organize together to force egalitarianism. For example, people hate and chastise the average trump supporter, who is usually older and remembers the time of segregation, like yourself, and are scared of the new world, where everything they were taught in school has went out the window. The younger people don't understand where they're coming from so insults fly, only resulting in more anger. People today just throw oil on each other's fires and wonder why everything is burning. As they've always done I guess but in the internet age it surrounds us constantly. It's easier to hate on the pack now and completely ignore any self reflection.

I think this is what makes Bob so special, he understood the civil rights movement on a deeper level, he understood it’s all a game. While the normal citizen wants change the government is playing games with us. Maybe wrong but I think he saw that the only way we can make progress is united, not divided. Divided, we’re all pawns in a game but only united can we stop the game.

The audience is one thing, but what about the people *behind* Dylan??? Ossis Davis and Dick Gregory and many other folks walking around. A sign of disorganization or lack of coherence? The fight is on and it's not just the blacks who are fighting for their rights what's going on right now is the biggest thing since either the Civil War or the Revolutionary War and believe it because that is no exaggeration ... the protest will continue throughout the summer and things are going to get very scary for the powers-that-be come right around Halloween and you can mark my words .
People have really had it with corruption in this country and our rights going down the toilet especially our freedom of speech ... TH-cam has been shadowbanning my comments intermittently for 11 years and I'm trying to get a class action suit against them even though others have tried to sue them.... I shouldn't say it but I'll say it I believe the judge was paid off and that's why he rolled in favor of Google and TH-cam when they say they are privately owned.... there's a number of holes in their argument and what they do .
.... I write lyrics and I have been very vocal against the powers-that-be recently and Burying my comments in fact a friend couldn't find a song I wrote and he counted and counted and man did he blow me away when he got back with me and said it was down at position # 590 ! ... and that did not include anyone's replies just initial comments by people .... they stepped all over freedom of speech and they think that's the American way well yeah with the shadow government it is and they're going to be overthrown this year it's still going to take a few years to get those dark creatures out but please people stop giving up hope everybody in this country is too damn angry to be afraid and everybody is sick of these rotten politicians who have stabbed good American people in the back for too long now

@Basil Fomeen According to these excerpts from St Louis Post Dispatch article titled, "St. Louis police release pawn shop surveillance video in hunt for killer of retired police captain
      " by Kim Bell Jun 5, 2020:
"A surveillance video showing men breaking into a pawn shop was released by police Friday in an effort to catch the person who fatally shot a retired police captain hired to protect the shop from looters."
"Dorn’s wife, Ann Marie Dorn, has said her husband was a friend of the pawn shop’s owner and worked for him. He would go to the shop when burglar alarms sounded to make sure it was secure, she said. She is a sergeant with St. Louis police."
"The video released by police doesn’t show the killing of David Dorn, 77, who was shot early Tuesday. He was found dead on the sidewalk in front of the shop."
"The video runs from 2:13 a.m. to nearly 2:17 a.m. Dorn was found dead about 2:30 a.m."
"David Dorn retired from the St. Louis police force in 2007 after 38 years on the job."
"David Dorn, in a 2008 photo when Dorn became police chief of Moline Acres." [at 65 years of age]

On the Pawn shops facebook page there is live video coverage (recorded by bystander Derek Brown?) posted with a timestamp of
12:50 a.m., runtime app. 36 minutes, showing police taping off the area including the entire street, before the reported time of the alleged murder? Considering the circumstances, why would a veteran P.O. at 77 years of age, be left alone, by himself, no backup, no other officers nor anyone locked & loaded, to "protect" "Lee’s Pawn & Jewelry at 4123 Martin Luther King Drive" at the reported time of two-thirty in the morning?
