This song is incredible. His songs capture a thousand emotions in a few words. We need a Bob Dylan right about now in the United States.

Bob Dylan wouldn't get on the radio because young kids these days like trash music since Clear Channel won't let REAL music on the air. They are too busy singing stupid Hot To Go! No thought in any of the music that is popular nowadays sadly.

@@rachelm9350 I don't think you're being fair to the young people of today. People have always liked silly upbeat love songs! The top charting songs in the US during 1964 were "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", "She Loves You", and "Hello, Dolly", for crying out loud. It's ridiculous to pretend that the popularity of fun, somewhat superifical music is a new phenomenon. And just as Dylan was releasing meaningful music to counterbalance the less profound stuff back then, there are plenty of artists now who continue to write and perform very meaningful music. Just because you don't hear them doesn't mean they don't exist. Also, it's important to note that artists like Bob Dylan still have a significant following among younger people! Hell, I'm pretty sure the guy who runs this channel was a teen when he first started and is now only in his 20s. The "young kids these days" are not quite as different from the young kids of the 1960s as you seem to think they are.

@@rachelm9350All music is "real" music, just like all art is "real" art; it's a matter of perspective. Chappell Roan's album is actually pretty good. That song is pretty catchy and commercial, but her other songs are good as well. There's certainly a lot of regurgitated corporate trash on the radio (hence, why I don't listen to it), but Roan's full-length album has some great pop hits.

Just pointing out how all you need to be the good guys is to be on our side, and how hypocritical that is. Then he finishes with saying if he has to fight he will, but if God was on someones side he would be proventing war not winning it. So amazing

Oh my name it is nothin’
    My age it means less
    The country I come from
    Is called the Midwest
I’s taught and brought up there
    The laws to abide
And that the land that I live in
    Has God on its side
Oh the history books tell it
    They tell it so well
    The cavalries charged
    The Indians fell
    The cavalries charged
    The Indians died
    Oh the country was young
    With God on its side
    Oh the Spanish-American
    War had its day
    And the Civil War too
    Was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes
    l’s made to memorize
    With guns in their hands
    And God on their side
Oh the First World War, boys
    It closed out its fate
    The reason for fighting
    I never got straight
But I learned to accept it
    Accept it with pride
For you don’t count the dead
    When God’s on your side
    When the Second World War
    Came to an end
    We forgave the Germans
    And we were friends
    Though they murdered six million
    In the ovens they fried
    The Germans now too
    Have God on their side
    I’ve learned to hate Russians
    All through my whole life
    If another war starts
    It’s them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
    To run and to hide
    And accept it all bravely
    With God on my side
    But now we got weapons
    Of the chemical dust
If fire them we’re forced to
    Then fire them we must
    One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
    And you never ask questions
    When God’s on your side
    Through many dark hour
    I’ve been thinkin’ about this
    That Jesus Christ
    Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can’t think for you
    You’ll have to decide
    Whether Judas Iscariot
    Had God on his side
    So now as I’m leavin’
    I’m weary as Hell
    The confusion I’m feelin’
    Ain’t no tongue can tell
    The words fill my head
    And fall to the floor
    If God’s on our side
    He’ll stop the next war

No censorship, not in a political sense anyway. You can see that Bob is not performing there - he hasn't got a mike in front of him, nor in front of his guitar. This is playback, the way the BBC always showed most popular artists at the time (look up an Beatles TV appearance from 1964-65, that's the way it is). The BBC themselves chose this song for him to "perform" off his album (so deciding mid-way that it is crossing some unforseen line would be a bit weird) and Bob is just playing along - that's his allowed spot among the other popular acts who were in the charts at the time*, showing off some of his material. But this song is 6-7 minutes long and he was never going to get that. No one did. Not at that time.
*On a sidenote, Bob's first albums were noticeably more successful in the UK than they were in the US. He was seeing eye to eye with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones there, whereas he hadn't had any major breakthrough back home yet and wasn't much known outside the folk/protest scene, whose automatic political speech and slogans were starting to bore him to death. Let's not make him the extra anti-establishment punk-rocker that he's not. He always wanted mainstream success, to get his number one, and the next year or so would be dedicated to hitting the big time. He just wanted it on his own terms, keeping his poetic integrity, but he was never dedicated to making empires fall.

    Com Deus Do Nosso Lado
Oh, meu nome é nada, minha idade, menos ainda
Oh, A Primeira Guerra Mundial, rapazes, lacrou nosso destino
    Portanto agora estou me despedindo...
    Estou cansado pra diabos.
A confusão que sinto, nenhuma língua conseguiria descrever
As palavras enchem minha cabeça e se derramam sobre o chão:
(Que) Se Deus está do nosso lado, ele impedirá a próxima guerra

I hope ur joking this song isn’t rlly about faith it’s more abt blind faith and how ppl will excuse horrible acts of violence, by simply saying ‘we have god on our side’, there’s even a line that says “but you don’t count the dead when gods on your side” the song is a masterpiece and everyone has the right to faith but that ppl shouldn’t blindly do anything they want and excuse it with having god on their side
