Good catch noticing the fabric design! I knew I recognized the fabric but I wouldn’t have remembered whose design it was! Someone else I follow was using it for a project online but of course I don’t remember.
Just found your channel, and as a frequent sewing channel watcher, I can safely say that you're doing a great job and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work ❤
What an absolutely gorgeous final outfit! And I’m so jealous you got to do fabric shopping in Japan. If you ever get to London we have Goldhawk Road where I love to fabric shop. This might sound weird but you genuinely give me the vibes of someone it would be so fun to parallel play craft with, drinking tea and both losing our minds at various points when we are confused or overwhelmed by our choices. 😂😂😂
Thank you so much! I am sooo keen to come to England and Scotland, I will definitely check out Goldhawk Road when I do eventually get there. Also that is really lovely of you to say, and not weird at all! One of the main reasons I started this channel was that I didn't have anyone who shared my love of cozy crafting. It's wonderful to find people all over the world who want to hang out and craft! ❤
This is an awesome video. Loved the dress and you did it extremely well. High tea and baking as future topic also great: Really enjoying your channel: Thank you ❤️
Ash this was amazing. Loved the finished product. Beautiful dress and both high tea and baking would be great for future video. Keep up the great work xx
yay a new video! i love how the dress turned out and the fabric was to die for!! can't wait to see future sewing projects!! p.s. conrats on 1000 subs xx
Honeymoon in Japan....Cool!! Very nice fabrics!! Love to see baking and cakes and good choice in music! 😄 The dress is beautiful!! Thanks and Greetings 👋
I am so glad we got to see what you bought in Japan …….. and may I suggest an extra large suitcase and may be a small carry on bag too …. Those shops looked absolutely amazing especially those trims (you picked well they are sooooo pretty ) do you speak the language? I am so with you about quilting cotton …. I am always making clothes from it … and curtain fabrics make great waistcoats for my wife … she loves wearing waistcoats and thankfully they don’t need washing as often as a shirt ( some curtain fabrics are designed for weekly washing … ask me how I know lol) Your dress …. Skirt and top WOW Ash just WOW … so beautiful and fits you perfectly 💖💖💖💖💖
Awww thank you so much! I will absolutely be bringing a larger if not extra suitcase next time. I only know the basic words but Tom speaks enough to get by very well for the both of us 🥰 also, what kind of curtain could possibly require WEEKLY washing???
Welcome back, your honeymoon looked amazing! I have no idea how you resisted purchasing another suitcase to purchase all the lovely fabrics! Also, absolutely on the high tea prep, baking is always appreciated and a high tea decoration and prep soundsfun
Thank you @finallykat1299!!! It was so much fun!! I know for next time... go with at LEAST one empty suitcase 😂. I'm so glad you'd be keen on the baking! I'll do it 😊
Let me tell you, coming back to nearly 40 degrees with 11 UV was *not* amazing 😂😂. I'm excited for it too as well! I have so many ideas for cool stuff to bake & cook!
@@ashbentley HOW IS YOUR MACHINE STILL WORKING? 😂😂😂 sewing machine manual should show you how to do it. you might need to repeat the whole oiling process few times, letting parts soak oil in for few days. or do what my mom did and put so much oil in it will drip for the next month and eventually it will sound smooth and nice 😂
Little hack for gathering: I tend to use leftover bits of extra strong or top stitching thread for gathering. It never breaks while pulling it and also I usually manage to remove it after sewing in one fell swoop!
Oh hey from a fellow Melbourne seamstress! I also have ADHD and used to make wedding dresses for a living. I now just sew for fun, but totally happy to answer any questions, if you need help. Everything I've seen you make so far is absolutely gorgeous! So, iron... I used to leave my iron on all the time, to my poor husband's anxious horror. And then I bought the Russel Hobbs cordless iron. It switches itself off after 10 minutes! I'm also now so excited to go to Japan and go fabric shopping! I'd never heard of Napori. The gorgeous outfit you made looks so beautiful on you!
Also, my name is Jen and I can relate to losing your walking foot, because it's on your machine so hard core! I had to rewind the video and show my husband (who is also ND), and he just looked at me and said, 'Oh look, another of your tribe!'
Hi Jen! Yay for ADHD tribe! Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I think I'm definitely going to need to research these ADHD friendly irons, thanks for the tip. And you absolutely have to go Nippori Fabric Town if you get the chance!
Here’s a tip for your sewing posture. You know in a bar how they have a rail by the bottom of the bar counter? It’s to raise one foot while standing? You need to fix up something like that near the bottom of your cutting table so that you can put one foot up and alternate. You can use a footstool as a temp measure but my cutting table is the right height and I still put a bar rail on my cutting table. Here’s the legend I was told. It comes from the cowboy era when they went to the saloon at the end of the day they all had sore backs from being in the saddle all day so they put a foot rest so they can lift one foot to change their posture.
Love this! I'll also be honeymooning in Japan so it's great to see where i should go for super cute buttons etc! Yes please to more baking content too, I've been to culinary school so i would love to hear more about your time in patisserie school!
Yay for honeymooning in Japan! You're going to have the best time! ❤ Cafes are open until like 9pm there, it's amazing. The food is incredible too 😊 I've moved house and the new kitchen isn't the best for filming in but I might try for some more baking in the future if I can figure out the set up 😅
Great dress and beautiful fabric! I now: 1. know that zip ties can be used as boning 🤯🤯🤯 2. crave scones 3. will be going and watching the Gilded Age immediately 😆
Omg I'm still craving scones! Yay so happy to share the zip ties tip - it was a game changer for me when I saw other TH-camrs doing it. Enjoy the Gilded Age! I might have to see if they'll sponsor me 😂😂
I would *love* too, but this table is really heavy AND stupid 😂 It's got a kind of X leg set up but it's really top heavy... I think it would just fall over 😅
Watching this makes me miss living in Japan lol. I always thought fabric was a bit expensive but it’s soooooo much more expensive in Europe! Also I need to watch the gilded age lol
I am gonna watch it I swear!! Living in Japan was a lot of fun. Buuut I ended up leaving for personal reasons last December. I do want to go there again though. I miss it and miss my friends and stuff (I miss the cheaper fabric now 🥲)
Very sweet dress....loved the filming in Japan.. Can you put the fabric in box and ship it to yourself..is that very expensive ..those wools looked beautiful...
Thank you! I had so much fun putting together the Japan footage, next holiday we get I think I'll do a full travel vlog 😊 Not sure about posting from Japan back home, but I could definitely packed a second bag for fabrics. I will next time!
*me, a canadian who is used to feet of snow* Oh that's not that bad for snowfall. *2 seconds later after you mention zero snow driving experience* OOOoooohhhh.... yeah no okay that's fair! 😂 **EDIT** YES I always encourage everyone to make pleated kilt-style skirts! they're so cute and I want to see how others make them! I struggled a bit with mine because I kinda winged the pleating / had no idea what I was doing. I'm excited for that project :)
😂😂 It's still so novel for us!! Turns out we love snow, so the idea of feet of it sound *perfect*! Canada is very high up on our travel list too... Will have to make a point to go in winter 😊
@@ashbentley As much as I feel like a traitor suggesting somewhere other than Toronto, I know that Alberta and BC are much better for getting the real "Winter" experience! Quebec can be great also in winter but the mountains are just something special over at the west coast :)
If the pockets are already in the dress, after you sewed them closed couldn't you cut a hole in just the top fabric in the spot you'd want it to open and finish the edge from fraying?
Ok, so incl. 1cm seam allowances, the circle skirt tier had a length of 27cm. Tier 2 was 37cm long by 108cm wide (x2 panels) and tier 3 was 42cm long and tier 3 was 42cm long and 110cm wide (x3 panels). I hope that helps! ☺️
Hello! We *love* NZ!! Tom and I drove around the South Island a few years ago. One of our favourite trips!! That's so cool about your brother in law! 🥰🥰
No a bother at all! I don't speak Japanese (I'm trying to learn at the moment though!), but I would always recommend to learn a few key words like 'yes', 'please' and 'thank you' to be polite and show you're making an effort. From my experience, most people in the major cities speak at least a bit of English, and Nippori Fabric Town is only 20 minutes by train from Tokyo central. Plus the conversation mode on Google Translate is suuuuuper helpful 😊
I think I will also try to learn to count to 5 to indicate potential meters of fabric. 😅 Like I'm ever going to be able to afford to go to Japan, but I can dream.
My favourite part of these videos is when I go “wow she makes it look easy, I could do this” knowing full well I will never be able to do that.
I can say, hand on heart, that you 10000000000000% could! ❤️❤️
The autumn vibe fabric is William Morris's Strawberry Thief! Very nice.

I have that pattern on my bedroom rug so beautiful
