- 1000 subscribers! I had to celebrate this huge milestone for my silly little channel with a sewing challenge. I loved the idea of one thousand flowers to represent one thousand wonderful subscribers. Thank you so much for the support, I hope you enjoy this designer DIY (attempt) with a sneaky shoe thrift flip to boot.

Honestly i love being one of 1000. Your external/internal monoloog gives me life and joy. I wish to be a purple flower. And the complaining about summer is pretty much me as soon as the temperature goes over 20 °C so i feel validated.
All warm weather complaining is welcome and encouraged here ❤ And thank you so much for your very sweet comment! 🥰Thank you for being here from the start!
I like being represented by a flower. Something green will be me 😊
There's a cute little green blossom style flower that I think might be you 😉😊
neurospicy sewist!!! Im so glad I found u!
I’m glad you did too!! Welcome ❤️
Consistently blown away by your talent, so glad i found this channel! (also I am a pink flower)
Thats’’s so sweet of you! Very happy to have you as one of the pink flowers 🌷💕
You had me at children’s entertainer made of vegetables! 😂 not one of the 1000 but very happy to be part of the 1.27k squad ❤
And very happy to have you! I wasn't sure if anyone would find that bit funny, so thank you! It means a lot 😊❤
I'm the large lilac peony at the base of your right shoulder strap 😂 congrats on 1k! I love your energy, you're definitely BFF material ❤🎉
Yes! That's a great flower 😉 And thank you!! 🤗🤗
Love being in this journey with you.
Happy to be one the founding thousand!
Sooo happy to have you here! I appreciate everyone who has taken a chance on little ol' me 😭❤
Servicing your own machine! My hero 💖💖💖
Haha thank you! It was actually pretty fun! ☺️
Less than a minute and 30 seconds in, and I've never vibed so hard with a TH-cam channel before. I'm not even gonna check your video history first, I'm following. I hope you make regular sewing content.
That is so lovely!! Thank you so much ☺️ And I certainly do make pretty regular sewing content - as regular as I can with ADHD 😂 Something else this week but back to sewing for the next video 🤗❤️
@@ashbentley I'm literally in the process of watching all your content since yesterday. You are amazing and I am HERE for it. I really can't tell you (and sorry it might be weird) how freaking cool you are. I appreciate your vibes and your tangents and I cannot wait to see what's next!
The dress turned out beautiful! I'm probably one of the small flowers that was extra annoying to sew on. 😅
That made me proper laugh 😂😂 Thank you!
Awww one of 1000 is a pretty high honour! Also, glad we got a resolution to the sewing machine service subplot.
Thank you for noticing! I only became aware that it was a subplot through the editing process so it NEEDED a resolution lol
Music and audio books are good for sewing.
I should probably do something that doesn't involve looking away from my sewing 😂
You’re great! Of course 1000+ people subscribed - and I’m your latest! I just reached 500 subscribers on my sewing with disabilities channel, and you are giving me great ideas for marking my next milestone! Keep creating, we are here for it!
That's so sweet of you to say, thank you for being here 🥰 And that's awesome! Congratulations on reaching 500 subs!!🎉❤ ❤ Keep going, we got this!
Great video! Grayson told me to watch
I laughed a lot at this 😂 Grayson is far better at promoting me than I am
North scandinavia would be less people on small space with cold winters and lots of snow and summer uv index on sweden is 4-8. So nice dress and think my hands hurt from watch you sew those flowers on
Oh that sounds amazing! I’ve always wanted to go to Scandinavia. And omg my fingertips are still recovering from sewing those flowers 😂
I love how relatable you are! I cant wait to watch your channel keep growing!
That's so sweet, thank you so much! 🥰
Ooo wow! That's a lot of effort and it looks great!
And at 25:15 I felt like looking in the mirror... All the thoughts and questions, all the tabs opened on my phone, yep.
Thanks so much! I’m glad I’m not alone! My husband always complains about all the tabs I have open 😂
It turned out fantastic. Another brilliant job Ash. Well done 🎉❤
Thank you so much 🥰🥰😘
The dress came out so beautifully, it's very ethereal/fairy-tale-ish (and I call dibs on one of the small blue flowers!)
Thank you, I'm usually not good at ethereal so I appreciate it very much! You can absolutely be one of the small blue flowers 🤗❤
I heard neurospicy, I saw delicious chaotic editing, I subscribed ;)
Dude same
Welcome aboard! I love this comment 😂❤
😂 Thank you ❤

This is great. I’m also one of the 1000 and honoured to be so. Loved the dress and the fact that it look wonderful even though there were some imperfections. Well done you. ❤
Yay! Thank you! And thank you for being here 🥰
❤ I want to be one of the purple flowers please 😊 love watching your videos.
Absolutely 💜 And thank you, I love having you here! x
Have another sub 🤣✨
Congrats on servicing your machine! Mine needs more than just an oil 🥲
Why thank you! Happy to have you here!
Maybe it is also full of dust?? 😂
@@ashbentley probably a bit 🤣🙈 i service it "regularly" its more that it had issues when it was given to me. (Don't ask the last time i did, its been probably a year🫣). It was my mothers so i blame her for it's status 🤣🤣
The plate isn't held in place properly and the teeth aren't in the right spot. I was finally able to get the screw off to remove the piece that holds the foot. Makes it easier for the machine to eat fabrics so i have a harder time using delicate fabric 😬 its a hot mess but its my hot mess.
Its impressive that all yours needed was dusting and oil ❤️
😊 Congratulations with (more than) 1000 subscribers!! 🎊 The dress turned out great!! Thanks and Greetings 👋🪻
Thank you so much! 🤗🥰
The tension you need to change is on your bobbin. There’s a little screw on the bobbin holder. You have to take out the bobbin holder completely and adjust the little screw on the side. It’s so annoying to do so I have an old sewing machine that has a front load bobbin I’m just going to keep and use just for shirring.
I wondered about that! But to take the bobbin holder out I need to remove the plate first and that's screwed in. That's a great idea to have an older machine for shirring - it's such a useful technique that I think I will keep an eye out for one to do the same!
You clearly tried your best and the end result is very cute. Good job!
Thank you! 😊
The algorithm did so good recommending this video 👌 Subscribed and binge watching all your videos now.
And wow, this dress looks amazing! It looks like something I would love to make, get halfway through, get impatient, put it in my pile of unfinished projects and start on a new one instead 😂 Hats off to you for finishing such a lengthy make!🎉
Oh yay thank you! But you should see my unfinished projects pile 😂 I have a tailored coat that has only needed a lining for 5 YEARS 😂 One day!
This is the cutest way to celebrate 1000 subscribers I've ever seen. By the way, congratulations🌺
You are so kind! 🌼🌷🌻
I'm actually one of the 1000 for once! id like to think im one of the blue flowers :3
BTW your videos are so cool, i love crafty creators :D
Thank you for being one of the 1000! I appreciate it so much 🥰 You can absolutely be one of the blue flowers 💙
I'm hopeful that I'm a blue flower of some sort ❤
Well it just so happens that the blue flowers are my favourites 🥰🥰❤️❤️
You may like the "trend" of clipping the mic to some random object. For example, I've seen people use daggers, cooking utensils, and paint brushes 😊
Oh I do like that trend! Little fake swords and stuff. I think I've done it once in (maybe?) my wedding rings video. Since I updated my mic it's a little big to attach to things. I always find it funny when people do it though 😄
this video has actually made my day 😂😂 this is officially my new fav sewing channel!
This comment made my day! Thank you so much, there are a lot of sewing channels so I appreciate that A LOT 🥰😘
I forgot to pick which flower represents me 😆 Very nice job! I need to service my machine too, she is "only" 10, but neglected the same way (don't tell anyone, I am staring at the place to bring her for 6 years everytime I go to work, but it will happen, eventually)
Haha I'm almost feel like the repair shop being right there makes it harder to get the service done 😂
Such a well made dress! I love how the straps look like extension of the bodice (is this the right word? I'm not gonna look it up, just pretend it's the right one) panel line, so professional! And in general, your videos are such a nice start of a day/weekend :)
Bodice is the right word! And thank you, that's so lovely of you to say ❤❤
almost ready to do a 2k flower dress ;)
Can you imagine 😅 but thank you, this video kind of took off!
New York State is a great place too! Maple syrup, fresh apples, and spectacular 🍁 colors in the fall. Just stay away from the city, rent prices will make your wallet scream.
I watched an apartment tour in New York city yesterday and it was RIDICULOUSLY tiny and expensive! I absolutely believe you, but I would want to be out in the autumn trees anyway 😍 🥰
The dress is spectacular. As are the shoes. Well done and huge congratulations on the milestone. Maybe think about wearing a floofy petticoat or crinoline with it to get the full swoosh effect.
Oh my lord, you "officially" can't oil your own machine. That's insane. Start saving up for a vintage Singer - they're built like tanks, plus they have a zigzag foot and buttonholer attachment to make them more than equal to what's being turned out these days... FB Marketplace and ebay are full of them. The rule is to clean and oil your machine after you finish each major project.
As for the heat and humidity versus winter conundrum for Canada is, uh, not great - the humidity is off the charts in July and August, never mind our newly minted fire season. This year we haven't really had a winter.
- Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
A vintage Singer is such a great idea! I didn't know you could get ones that do zig zag too. I am thinking I will need another machine, something more heavy duty would be nice. And that's a shame about the humidity! I am definitely not a fan haha. Thank you very much Cathy & accidentally (😂) Steve 🤗🤗
@@ashbentley Two people... one computer... didn't realize we were both using the same YT account until _after_ the Algorithm was trained... le sigh.
Steve's along for the ride, I'm afraid... {love ya, Honey}. But you're talking to Cathy...
If you're looking for a machine that has the zigzagger installed _In_ the machine you'll be looking at the 1960's.
There is no option for a buttonholer than to to use the attachment. The buttonholer is a foot. It's giant - there's the 1960's "Atomic" version and then there's the older varieties. Both are good. With the foot you'll have to pay attention to if your machine is a short shank (green box) or a slant shank (red box). The box should have 4 cams and, ideally, the 4 cam extension pack. The Featherweight Shop in the States sells a replica cam for the elusive and very expensive eyelet cam for a darn fine price (not sponsored... lol).
There is a vintage 50's foot that is an Automatic Zigzagger (found mine on ebay). It should come with 4 cams. There are 3 other extension packs - delineated by colour. Also to be found on ebay. Fair warning - Singer Nerds _covet_ these...
Those two feet work on Every Decade of the classic black "Japaned" finish machines made throughout the last century. Singer accidently created a plug and play technology and never even knew it.
The Sewing Machine Garage guy on YT is a font of information. Once you've watched a few of his videos the Algorithm should start suggesting the other humans who are the mechanics for these things.
There are a font of info out there. There's a thing-y for the Serial Number that will tell you when the lot that your machine was manufactured in was made. The machine has a birthday! Do some research, see what models call, nay siren calls, for you and then see what turns up. If it doesn't have the manual, they can be found for free online. Same for the manuals for the feet.
The Featherweight Shop also offers a replacement for the wiring for the foot controller. Love the grandparents. Do Not trust their wiring. {There's regulations for many reasons...} They also sell replacement rubber foot pads, oil and grease. It's the closest we're going to get to the formulation that Singer _USED_ to make. Buyer beware? Dunno.
The first Mister Singer that started it all was a real piece of work. Stole patents from competitors, short changed designers, chased the maids. The usual 1800's era behaviour. Yish. There are many nasty reasons why Singer dominated the market for much of the 20th century...
We live in a small apartment so the only machines I've allowed myself are a 1915 hand-crank 99K with the bentwood box & key, a 1951 Featherweight with the travel box and the "toy" sewing machine from the 1930's. And pretty much all the feet a girl could dream of - which are interchangeable between the ladies (they are an attachment not dependent on a power source). All the machines are portable. All are named after the last woman who owned them. Their name is written in the inside of the manual for the machine. Then I write my name and dates in the inside cover. Provenance. Take care of them and they'll last another 100 years. That history needs to be recorded.
Etsy is for research - throw "Vintage Singer attachments" and scroll through the offers, learn what the names are and what's of use to you. Ebay is for the hard to get. Get a box of attachments - either comes with the machine or from someone like Thrifters (3fters?) on Etsy or scan through the contents of non-dealers offerings and maybe get lucky on pricing.
Well. That's, uh, an info dump. Can you tell I fell into the sewing rabbit hole just before the first lockdown happened. I had alllooot of time to research my options...
Favourite vid so far! Your dress turned out better than zimmerblahman
Awww thank you! What a compliment! I will say the rainbow of colours turned out quite pleasing ☺️
What a fun way to find your channel- Congrats on 1K!! Imagine when you get to 10K!!

Finland. Move to Finland! It’s great here 😎👌
I've always wanted to go to Finland! 🤩
Not even waiting to sub. Doing it now. You're brilliant!!! Very entertaining and dare I say adorable ❤❤ thanks for making this old ladles day❤❤❤
Awww thank you! And welcome! You’ve made my day ❤️🥰
A mysterious stranger named Lilly, a flower name, accosted you in the parking lot and just happened to have a bag of random flowers she gift you. You have pleased the Fae, clearly.
Omg wow, I did not even make that connection 😅 I love your interpretation of things and I have now decided to believe this was the case
I also use a lot of curtains and bedsheets to sew my pieces. And I also always wonder if people will be able to tell that it was a bedsheet before. I'm just not sure anymore 😂😂😂😂
I suppose people wouldn’t say even if they thought it was. Good enough for me! 😁😁
Ahhh so pretty!! I'm always so happy to see one of your videos pop up and i regularly go back to past ones. You make such amazing things, but with a chaos that feels relatable to me 😅 I'm so looking forward to following along as your channel grows 🪻
Edit: typo 🙄
That is so lovely to hear! I am always happy to bring the chaos. Thank you for being here!! ❤❤

congrats for your 1000 subscribers! the 🌺dress is amazing!♥
Thanks so much! And thank you for being here 🥰
You're so brave (elastic, AND shirring). Also your dog came to tell you the sewing machine wasn't happy.
Haha thank you! And I think you might be right about Alf 😂
I actually gonna make this dress but need tutorial cuz i am dumb. Thanks! I already bought fabric, flowers aplication, and the fake flowers!!!😆😆
Oh that's so cool! I'd love to see yours when its' finished! Tag me on insta so I can see ❤❤
Your video popped up in my "suggestions" & I'm so glad it did! You are a delight & I look forward to future videos. I have subscribed, so if you do a similar project when you hit the 2,000 subscriber mark, I will be one of THOSE flowers! :)
Side Note: I would love to take some of that horsehair ribbon off your hands. I make a lot of costumes that have full skirts for Mardi Gras, Halloween & vintage events. But, since I am in the US, I am literally on the other side of the world & shipping costs would be catastrophic, so, alas, I will have to source it locally.
Oh yay thank you! I have ideas for future milestones so I will be very happy to have you in those ones 🤗 🥰
Also yes, shipping to anywhere outside of Australia is unfortunately sooo expensive, we’re so far away!
BEAUTIFUL
You are!
Also binge watching past videos and I have an adhd sewers tip for you….get an iron that automatically shuts off, it’s a GAME CHANGER.
OH MY GOD THOSE EXIST??!! 😮
@@ashbentley sure do! they are usually a little more expensive but soooo worth it!
@@belleharris2059omg really? Shopping! Dopamining yayyyy 🎉
Ahhh yes the feeling of doing chores to avoid other chores or tasks is one I am also so very familiar with...! But hey, productivity is productivity... 😂😂😂
I did those dishes proper too 😂 And thank you, it all works out in the end 😊
Stunning 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks! 🤩🤩
Yay!! Amazing! I’m so happy I could help
You literally saved the day!! It was so much more fun when I had an abundance of flowers to choose from. Thank you again ❤🥰
Incredible 😮
Thank you 🤗💕
Congratulations on your subscriber count, AND your gorgeous ridiculous dress, AND servicing your sewing machine because absolutely that's something that one can do!
Thank you!! It was quite a big week ❤ And such a relief with the machine - I was quoted $200 for a service!
stunning! It's absolutely stunning!
Thank so much! 🤗🤗
Amazing! You are so talented and inspiring!
That's so sweet! Thank you so much! 🥰🥰
i love this video
I love YOU Lily
🎉🎉🎉 Your energy and positive vibes always make me smile. Seeing Mr. Alf is always a plus. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be great.
I had another thought about a cutting table. When I get together with my sewing friends, we put up folding tables that have adjustable height legs. They're lightweight and cost-effective (fancy term for cheap 😅). When we're done we fold them up and shove them under a bed or behind a door.
Hugs from Virginia, USA
That's such a good idea!! I'd use the floor if it didn't make Mr. Alf want to run all over the fabric 😂 Thank you, it makes me really happy to know I could make you smile 🥰❤
ASH …… congratulations on reaching 1.14k I am so pleased for you sweetie. However don’t let Tom watch your video ….. you called him (well I hope it’s him lol) your techie boyfriend 😂😂😂. Dress is gorgeous….. Tom was right about the sandals though …. Sorry …. 💖💖💖💖💖💖. Can’t wait to see what you do next week xxxxx Tina

Congrats! 🎉🎉
Thank you! 🥰🥰
Shirring is easy. Tedious. You get gathering after you've sewn all the rows. Just sew like normal but with elastic on the bobbin (hand-wound withour tension).
Every machine is different I guess!
So happy to see you hit that milestone, it is well deserved! Your videos are great fun for me and have roped my husband in on any occasion he has been home whilst I am watching.
That is so lovely to hear! Thank you for being here (and for roping in your husband😉) 🥰🥰
Congratulations on 1000!
I moved and had 0 energy or interest to watch youtube so I am so sorry I am congratulating late...
... and checking on the machine oiling aftermath lol
Great job not listening to the website and doing it anyways 💪It sounds amazing and must also *feel* absolutely amazing to sew with now!
So happy I was able to help both of you

@@ashbentley what a beauty dress.....keep doing what you do.,..
When I do shirring I don’t adjust the tension, I adjust the stitch length from 2.5 to 3.5
I think I went with about 3.5 as well :)
🌸🌼🌺🌼🌸
❤🧡💛💚💙
The bobbin tension is a little screw on the bobbin cover. Hope that helps in the future.
Also here's a short th-cam.com/users/shortsOkrYIV4TFqo?si=fKuusEzXQCg2tK5- and because the short didn't say the bobbin is supposed to drop a few inches
Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately my machine is a Brother and doesn’t have a removable bobbin cover like that.

Hahaha I would have to start now! I have another idea for 10k 😉 Hopefully my sewing skills are better by then though!
