Very easy and cute! Just one thing though, the ribbing instructions here are wrong. To get ribbing on straight needles and with this number of stitches, you have to K2 P2 on the odd rows and P2 K2 on the even rows. Found out the hard way. Otherwise it came out exactly the right size and shape.

Vee Crossley It should be K2, P2 and usually if you work with multiples of 4 stitches you’ll end with P2. If not you’ll end with K2. I should have made this clear in the video but the aim was to make a rib of 6 rows with the pattern of K2, P2. I’m sorry for any problems you’ve had.

I just worked this up. Despite me going up a needle size and after adding two extra rows before decreasing this seems exceptionally small for a new born.
It's All Okay With CJ!! Hi there is a 0-3 month size if you’re looking for something bigger but this size is for a newborn out of the hospital. It’s a base pattern so you can add more stitches and increase some rows and it should make it bigger. You can follow the exact pattern and use a slight thicker yarn and bigger needles to get a bigger hat. I hope this helps :)

Would it matter if I alter the ribbing on this to be k1, p1 rather then k2, p2? I've knitted a cardigan and wanted the ribbing to match. If I do it that way will it make a difference to the sizing? Thank you
Casting on 66 stitches and working K2 P2 will not result in a knitted rib pattern. I have learned that in order to create a 2x2 rib, you must begin with a multiple of 4 cast on stitches. Therefore, you have to cast on either 64 or 68. Casting on 66 and working K2 P2 as instructed will not work.
I started this but the 66 stitches doesn’t work for the K2 P2 ribbing, it goes out of sync. I saw another comment saying the stitches need to be in multiples of 4, but 66 isn’t a multiple of 4. Would 64 stitches or 68 be better?? But then would that throw off the reduction rows? I’m so confused 😭
AStarToSteerBy yes that is correct you do need 66 sts for this hat size any more stitches would make it too big and any less stitches would make it a little too small but the way I explained and worded it was wrong and I didn’t realise until I started getting these comment I do apologise for the confusion. To clarify you do need a multiple of 4 stitches if you want a flush k2p2 pattern the part I didn’t mention is because I’m using only 66 stitches when you start the second row you will start with P2,K2 instead of k2,p2....To make it more clearer ...Row 1 k2, p2 repeat these 4 stitches to the end of the row. Row 2 p2, k2 repeat these 4 stitches to the end of the row. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until desired rib length. I hope that made it easier to follow I may upload an updated video unfortunately I’m struggling with time at the moment but if I can help you with anything else please leave me a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. @@mayajordan893 the ribbing is the only part that has confused people all you need to do is k2, p2 to the end of the row. Your last stitch will be k2. The next row will start with p2. Just knit on the knits and purl on the purls. I wouldn’t recommend add or reducing the stitches.
You do a lovely job. I just wish you could SLOW DOWN and explain more what You are doing so that beginners could catch on. It’s nearly impossible to follow as a beginner.
Jacqueline Tanner I have a video on a 3-6 months hat. The hat should be stretchy enough to fit up to 12 months but if you would like you can add a few more stitches when you cast on and follow the rest of the video as normal. Look for a video that instructs how to do a color change. You don't need dpns, you just start a new color on a new row. It should be really easy because this is knitted flat, you can start and end at any row you want.
I've never had so many issues with a tutorial... I'm using the right needles and everything and I'm not exactly a beginner. The finished hat looks nothing like is implied it should. It's not as big, but it's wider, and it doesn't have the same shape. I do know what I'm doing when it comes to knitting, so I'm very confused.
Some music or narrative would be better, however I'm going to try this for my very prematurely born grand daughter by freezing the screen and writing the pattern down!!
Not super happy with this pattern. I made it up and it came out the way it should have so thats good. However the size is off. It only came out to 10cm which i see is listed. I looked it up the average length for a newborn is more low 13cm. This size is a premie. Which is 10-11. That should be adjusted in the heading. So now i have a hat that won't fit. Guess i'll gift it.
In order to have a clean looking 2x2 ribbing after you sew it up you do need the 66 Stitches because when you sew it up you take the first knit and then the last knit stitch together with that it hides them in the seam and then creates the perfect ribbing you must use the mattress stitch to achieve it I’ve done it multiple times it works
I can’t hear you talking. How am I supposed to know what you are doing when you fail to explain and give a description on what you are doing. I’m severely sight impaired but registered blind and only have sight in my left eye which is 2 meters blurred tunnel vision. This video is bad and very descriminatory.
Please take in to consideration my situation too. I can only do what I can. I’m sure you can find another video that provides you everything you need to complete your project. Enjoy the rest of your day

I've made this hat twice now and it most definitely is not as big as what's shown here, nor is it even shaped the same.
