ive been watching production tutorials for years now and there's not many producers who can get this close to the original, and give their knowledge away for free. Respect
“It has its charm” I love this because sometimes you make the simplest most not-technically-correct thing and you ask yourself “wait does this sound good?” The answer is usually no but there IS something there to refine and polish
This was fantastic! I've seen other versions of this kind of video, but they really just put the track in front of you and say "this is garbage" without really explaining why the thought process behind the creative decisions that led up to the track were bad. Here you actually kind of build up "this is a shortcut or short-sighted decision that leads to this bad decision, which results in this problem" then showcasing that problem by playing the track, which i appreciate because I can see myself in the bad track and I better understand why.
As I call myself an intermediate producer, I definitely understood the path I should follow. Comparison between these levels is extremely beneficial to understand where you are. This is genious. Thank you!

Amazing video once again! Wouldn't it be cool if you gave us, the viewers, a project with a few simple sounds and melodies and we try to make it into a good sounding track? Then you could take the beginners - intermediate - pro projects and break them down in the same way you did to this :)

Damn man, goes without saying there are a LOT of production tutorials out there. This was one of the first videos in a long long time that was genuinely useful to me as an intermediate producer. I would say I have definitely been trying hard (as you say) to make everything phat. Saturation, layering, effects. This was a genuine masterclass. Thank you!
Thank you !! It is really amazing how you were able to replicate the sounds using just Serum and the effects ! Boris actually doesn't use Serum I think, but Omnisphere, Alchemy, Fabfilter One, Trillian. I think he always programs his sounds from scratch to keep them as clean and simple as possible. You prove the type of synth doesnt really matter. I have gone through thousands of presets in my life, but never I found sounds as good as the one you find in world top productions like that of Boris. I really hope you could show how a lot of other Boris sounds could be made because I think he is really the master of the ear candy sounds, not only bass. He has hacked the code to get the jaw braking result almost every time... Your insights save producers alooot of time going to the next level.
This is good insight. Minimal changes to sounds to make a track more dynamic. I like that. As beginners we tend to be lazy. Thinking every layer sounds right and only changing sequence patterns and not paying attention to sound dynamics.
These tips are very usefull! I barely use presets but I tend to make my "main synth" to heavy. Especially with detuned saw waves... I just need more space for the candy! Thanks a lot dude, you're a legend!

everything up to 3 minutes in sounds exactly like every track i produced when i started (a very long time ago). Your ability to deconstruct in a way that is easy to follow and ... obvious... without making any amateur producer feel stupid is brilliant. Nice video, have been hobby producing techno for a couple of years now and i use many of the "boris" techniques but i still learned a lot of things. Keep them videos comming.
The people that make music like that (beginner) just started understanding how the daw itself works. It's at that level it really started being really fun for me. From there progress starts to kick in superfast if you are consistent enough to be busy producing on a steady basis. This channel really helped a lot for me. The reason for this line of thought is in a club the bass goes through mono so people only bother about the club aspect of it, but if you can make a wide bass that sounds good in mono as well, you have hit the mark. SO i suppose mono, mono, mono is a bit lazy maybe? But then again it all depends on the track itself and what you are aiming for ultimately.
