Medieval village is abandoned. It used to be an area where people could buy merch from the show and things like that. Homeless people are seen there at night. I had a friend that worked at medieval times and she got attacked in the parking lot late at night when she was leaving. They only use the main arena. The show features horses which is my favorite part if you ever wanted to see it.
You took me back many years on that drive. Such good memories of driving up and down the 192 when I was young. We found the best truck stop diner ever about 20-25 years ago where I would get a 'working boy' breakfast and my dad would get a 'working man', steak, eggs and lots more for breakfast all for like $5. I miss those days. Thanks for the memories
192 was and is still the main corridor to wdw from the turnpike. My family did the journey from the early 1980s through the 1990s when we lived in Miami. I miss my childhood memories and the wdw of those times.
When Disney World first opened there was huge demand for motel rooms. As Disney built more hotels on property that left these older motels in a difficult situation.
@@brad349miller Not in the business, but from my observation when they start competing on price they have to compromise on maintence. Eventually as these place fall in decline they go without renovations and turn into dumps.
I'm from SC but ironically enough I was just in Kissimmee yesterday. I go each year for vacation. I absolutely love abandoned structures for some reason. This was very cool 😎
The first abandoned resort (Orlando Sun Resort) was once the great Orlando Hyatt Hotel. I stayed there many times in the late 70’s and early 80’s. The spot you referred to as a check-in building may have once served that task, but I only remember it being used as travel info/tickets/gift shop. The Hyatt had a great lobby which featured two restaurants, Limey Jim’s (a British pub) and another themed with bicycles or umbrellas (was it called Gatsby's?), I can’t recall which now. They had a fairly large game room/arcade with cutting edge games for the time... Crazy Climber, Berzerk, Galaga, Kangaroo, etc. If you look at a satellite image of the property, it featured 4 “pods” with clusters of buildings, each with it’s own pool in the center. To walk from your room to the lobby sometimes was quite a trek, as you often had to travel through 5-6 buildings to get to your destination. It was one of the first hotels I remember with electronic locks. The plastic keys had an array of holes which were read by the door lock when inserted. It was a strange mash-up of analog and digital technology. The cards themselves did not have a mag strip or RFID tag. The location was also popular for conventions as it had a sizable convention center. It was a great place to stay and was the closest you could get to WDW without being on property for many years.
J D our first trip to orlando as a kid , i was 10 we stayed there and went to disney world. First place i stayed without hard keys. We bought books of tickets for disney at that ticket center. I still have a few of the tickets we didn’t use. On the way down we stopped on Florida turnpike and picked oranges right by the turnpike. Eventually in 90’s i went to work for Hyatt overseas and forgot about this hotel until now.
I lived in Orlando in the 60's and 70's, and went to many airshows at Kissimmee Airport. Its good to see Silver Spurs Rodeo is still going on, it falls on hard times every now and then, hope the covid doesn't hit it too hard ! Good video, thanks for posting !
I remember when I was a kid in the 80s, you used to have to drive down this long road of motels, hotels, and gift shops to get to the Disney parks. When they built the direct access routes to the parks all of these places slowly died.
30+ yr resident of Kissimmee here. Orange Bowl has been there since the 60’s. Lots of things to see if you pull off 192. And from another video you posted Pioneer Village is not that empty building you passed. It is still there! It’s all the way back. Part of Shingle Creek. There’s bike/walking path from the Welcome center that will take you back there as well. Beautiful area
Have a look down Bass Road and call in at Give Kids the World . It is where we had our first taste of Florida, when the "Make a Wish foundation" granted our daughter's wish to come from the UK to meet Mickey Mouse and Friends at Disney World back in 1994.
In the 70's when I was a kid ,my family and I stayed at Hyatt house with the color cluster 2 floor hotel each one had it's own pool. Main lobby and helicopter rides...Loved it ..
I’ve stayed at the first location many years ago, late 80s early 90s. It wasn’t that great then, The food location looked like a mall food court, very dated, and even dusty back then. If you’re wondering about the tree signs that’s due to the homeless population in Kissimmee along that road. They’re trying to prevent encampments of tents from popping up there. Being across from Celebration that is more of the “upscale” area of the 192. If you notice along 192 where the bus stops are, you’ll see signs there too. They made the bus stop benches impossible to lay down on because people were sleeping on the benches. That flight museum will take you for a flight too. It’s a big yellow warbird plane. I’ve heard they take pictures of people in the cockpit while in flight, not sure if they still do that though. For the bowling, yes the neon still works, when they turn it on, it’s been there for at least 35 years. I remember passing by on way to Disney when I was very young, early 80s. 👍🏻
Love this video! I grew up here and these are places I've not only seen, but have frequented and it's so funny to see them through the eyes of someone else. It kind of makes me appreciate my hometown a little more.
Silver Spurs Arena is still used for the Silver Spurs Rodeo every year. My Uncle won the Calf Roping/ Bull Dogging competition 7 years in a row in the 60s to early 70s. It's also used for the Osceola County Fair every year.
During Hurricane Milton I stayed at the Vacation Club next to the Orlando Sun Resort. One morning I discovered this by chance while jogging after there was no longer a barrier at the entrance. Unfortunately I didn't have a cell phone with me to take some pictures, but it's now perfect for filming an episode of Walking Dead, now that even the balcony railings have been destroyed and half the furniture has been scattered across the site. I'm a little surprised that no investor is building anything new here.
Chad Wilken I used to live down Pleasant Hill Rd. There was or is an airplane restoration company there which was featured in an issue of Popular Mechanics magazine. Riley Aviation, I believe.
I lived in the central Florida area from 03' up until recently. I'm talking Orlando, Kissimmee, St cloud. Funny to see your brain works similar to mine. Thank you for doing the exploration on my behalf.
The Silver Spurs arena between Kissimmee and St. Cloud was originally an outdoor rodeo that was started by the members of the Spurs club for their own entertainment. Then it became a very well know rodeo that riders from all over the nation came to compete. Great times back then. The old bowling lanes opened around 1960 was one of very few entertainment places we had back then
Started visiting Kissimmee from the UK 1998 and every couple of years until 2018,usually stayed around highway 192 and saw a few changes over the years and for me not so good changes IMO. one favourite place was at St. Cloud old farmers market next to the Turnpike, loads of market stalls and weekends had locals doing country karaoke happy memories for me but like a lot of others all gone now, Cracker house Bar as well. Initially did the tourist stuff but eventually got out and about. Really miss visiting loved the "atmosphere" and smells etc renting a villa with private pool and chilling in nice warm evenings although hated driving in the Florida rain, one trip driving 192 from Melbourne back to Kissimmee rain was so heavy could not see out the windshield front or back fortunately got to St Cloud and came off the highway until the rain eased off a bit.
10:23 That's there they host the giant Mecum car auctions. Google "mecum kissimmee" for more details. I finally went to the one in early 2020 and if you like cars, it's impressive. They literally have anything and everything. They had a couple sell for over a million.
192 is cool. It used to be so busy when I a kid before Disney built more onsite hotels. We stayed at a Sheraton. I’d recommend Medieval Times I’ve been to the one in Florida when I was really young and the one up here In NJ a couple times. it’s corny but fun. Can’t take it too seriously 😀
Me and my husband went there and a man called the cops in us and told us he owns the property. We are adventures and we live in Kissimmee Florida so that's amazing that I saw your video about this place
I’m new to the channel, so I’ll have to poke around a bit! My parents spent the last 8 winters in Davenport, so some of these places are familiar! I’m always sad I never saw World of Orchids when it was open.
Took. Y students on a field trip to Medieval times last year. It’s a fun place to go to watch a cool show. A meal is also included in the price and is quite amazingly tasty. For me it’s just one of those places that I will visit once and I’m done. It is a must see if you have never been there before.
I went to several Star Trek conventions at the first stop on your tour. They sold things like airboat tours and rides to Tampa for Busch Gardens at the excursion kiosk. As a teen I’d stay at the Magic Castle motel when I’d come down to Orlando for the weekend to see my friends at UCF while I was still in high school. They’d let us stay for $19.99 if we had a signed form from our parents. It was a dump with huge spiders and stained linens. And then became the set of “The Florida Project” film with Willem Dafoe.
Our family had a timeshare at Orange Lake and we went every summer in the 90s. This highway was awesome and it is so sad to see it dead like this. Old Town was another fun awesome.place
That abandoned resort was once a Hyatt until it closed in the early 2000s. Wow! Love this video, I actually grew up in Kissimmee Florida. Really took me down memory lane, haven’t been there since high school graduation which was at the Silver Springs arena actually. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Love the channel.
So when your filming where Xanadu was at 5:56, there’s a property across the street called Saratoga villas where I’ve stayed at three times with my family. The Applebee’s sign on the left at 6:15, I’ve eaten there many times. I’ve also eaten at the Capones dinner show across the street from the Applebee’s but that wasn’t on the video.
I live in Maine, only been to Florida 5 times. But I have been to Medieval Times and the Warbird Museum. Last February we stayed right at Old Town, my son pretty much had the amusement park to himself. Nice to get off the beaten path! Eating chicken in the dark with my hands while watching jousting is also an interesting memory, good chicken at Medieval Times! New subscriber, will follow along with you!
I heard about Zanadu when I first moved down here. By the time I felt comfortable driving more than 45 minutes away from my house, I found out it had been demolishied. Really wish I could have visited it before that happened.
In 1985 I stayed in a holiday Inn that had its own mini golf...it was right on 192 past old Town heading west...I have been to that area several times since 2016 thru 2018 but I don't see the holiday Inn anymore..I believe there was a Howard johnsons next to it also...any idea as to what happened?...thanks
In 1978 my wife and I came down to Florida and stayed in a brand new motel that was within the first 2 miles on 192 and backed up to a lake. We cannot find this motel now! Do you have any idea where this went? My wife beat me at mini golf there, we had been married for 1 yr.
Around the 10:00 mark, you pass my favorite Fast Food temptation - Long John Silvers! It's a true LJS, not one that is connected to another partner brand. The staff that work there are amazing, and it's never busy when we go. I usually will hit this up during Marathon Weekend and/or Celebration Marathon Weekend, after I've run.
I was in this area in the summer of 1999. I was 9. I remember a roadster attraction in that area called Maze World. I wanted to check it out but I don't think my family wanted to spend money on some tacky attraction...but at the time it looked like it would of been awesome!! Just like a maze in a kids puzzle book bu one you can actually walk through!!
I didn't even think about all the non Disney or Universal hotels around the area and how they are fairing, but I expect we might see a lot more abandoned hotels in the next few years.
You are missing out. Medieval Times is the best dinner theatre show ever. Their food is fantastic and the show is spectacular. We go several times a year.
The bowling alley has been there for years i grew up in Orlando/ kissimmee i am 35 now and when i was in 2nd grade i would pass that place still looks the same i still live in Orlando same area
Great video... It is neat to explore new places and areas.... Look forward to that plane museum video... I like planes too.... Have you even been to the naval air museum in Pensacola.... It is very big and full of planes and history stuff.... I highly recommend it.... I believe it is free too.... thanks for sharing... Take care.... Have a great day... Thanks..👍👍👍👍👍
How long have you lived in Osceola county that you have never been down Hoagland or have never been to the Silver Spurs rodeo? Adam the Woo used to work at that abandoned Super Kmart at the end of your video. 14:40
Whooo Man that brings Me back the first location used to be a Hyatt Regency Hotel, That was My first Job Dammmn haven't seen that place in so long lol Thanks . . . 😎

What was so difficult about offering a lower rate for a motel experience and keeping rooms clean?

NOT the Orange Bowl it was the Tangerine Bowl. I still have my ticket stub from 82 when I saw "The Stones", Van Halen, ect.
The Orange Bowl was in Miami home of the Miami Dolphins spent a lot of money there also.
LOL just realized you were referring to "Orange World"

Really interesting. I fear more abandoned hotels to come in this strange world we now live in. Hope I'm wrong though.
was around and delt with some of the owners of these properties in the past they are very very interesting people many of them
Always great to see other parts of orlando.I love the parks but makes a lovely change of viewing 😎👍
Kissimmee, it's Kissimmee. And the parks are not in Orlando. It's Buena Vista and Kissimmee.

Definitely was a Kmart. It went out of business a few years ago.
It went out of business back in early 2017

Do you remember the old rent-an-airboat place out near Marker 15 (I believe) ?
My son worked there for a year or so. He had died his hair blue an the other employees called him papa Smurf.
I visited davenport in the 90s and the flea marking 192
MT is fun! You should go and remember don't ask for silverware!
Wow! Love this video, I actually grew up in Kissimmee Florida. Really took me down memory lane, haven’t been there since high school graduation which was at the Silver Springs arena actually. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Love the channel.
When I was in elementary school we used to bowl at Orange Bowl!
I bowled at orange bowl lanes many years ago in the state tournament. Old fashion for sure. Great video

The staff that work there are amazing, and it's never busy when we go. I usually will hit this up during Marathon Weekend and/or Celebration Marathon Weekend, after I've run.
Awesome job as always
My husbands family owned a couple pawn shops in Saint Cloud on 192
I love your shack up inn hat. I live right down the road from there and have played many gigs down there.
I lived there in the 80's I remember medival times
You are missing out. Medieval Times is the best dinner theatre show ever. Their food is fantastic and the show is spectacular. We go several times a year.
Visited th Warbid Museum on first trip to Disney World.
During the intro the first thought I had was... I'm glad this isn't a drinking game with the amount of times I heard 192.... Great video!
The bowling alley has been there for years i grew up in Orlando/ kissimmee i am 35 now and when i was in 2nd grade i would pass that place still looks the same i still live in Orlando same area
I do believe I seen the first hotel. I think I passed it leaving the Melia Hotel. I was shocked to see an abandoned hotel in Florida.
I have been to medieval times about 5 times in NJ, good show.
Very cool 😎 need to see some of the forgotten around Orlando
Interesting Video! Thanks For Sharing Your Experiences! Stay Safe!
Thanks for showing all the cool "old" stuff. Most people don't realize there is much more to Orlando than theme parks...
Like what?
@@RocketmanRockyMatrix Like a lot of old FL (smaller) attractions, museums, kayaking, etc etc...
@@gretastarbuck3793 Cocoa Beach and surfing?
@@RocketmanRockyMatrix Absolutely! So close to a lot of beaches! And close to the Kennedy Space Center, too.
I think my wife and I stayed here late 70's. I believe it was once called the Hyatt.
Medieval times is fun, well at least from what I can remember from about 20 years ago
AlexJemery they had real good food there too
.
I wish you would have actually went in the convention center and showed the inside. I've been there many times recently. It looks so creepy now
I live at the condos at the end of 192 in Melbourne beach
How long have you lived in Osceola county that you have never been down Hoagland or have never been to the Silver Spurs rodeo? Adam the Woo used to work at that abandoned Super Kmart at the end of your video. 14:40

Whooo Man that brings Me back the first location used to be a Hyatt Regency Hotel,
