I did some research on fishing, and I think I can answer why people say you can't catch a fish while ice fishing for only one hour. And thats because of the interloper tax. Similar to the world getting colder after 50 days, fish also get caught less after 50 days. If you have lv 1 ice fishing, the time to catch outside of a fishing cabin is at a minimum 30 minutes. Then you add on interloper tax, which will increase the time by another 50 minutes making minimum catch time 80 minutes. In a fishing hut the minimum time to catch is 10 minutes and 60 minutes after interloper tax. The reason why you've caught fish within an hour is because starting at lv 2 you get a decreased time to catch increasing at every level up to a max of 25%. That means inside of a fishing hut you can catch a fish starting at 45 minutes and outside of a hut starting at exactly 60 minutes. Edit: Also i found out the mound you first attempted to put a snow shelter on is the spot where you can fish from inside. You just didnt have the correct few pixels
A channel called Bashrope has been doing alot of testing with The Long Dark and found out quite alot. He has a playlist of all his testing and guides, one of the videos is on fishing including testing the new lures and tip ups. He explains why you can't get fish in the first hour but I don't want to say here incase I get it wrong. Would recommend checking it out.
Zak walks into a cabin and is shocked to see other living humans... he's even more shocked to find them sitting in a circle for his Jerry can intervention
I've come to realize that I'm really looking forward to your videos, they are calm, relaxing and entertaining! Very enjoyable, thank you very much for them! I'm not 100% on this, but around 1:15 ish you boldly pull your sled around that one wolf with your flare gun equipped. And you had 2 flare guns on you, the 100% condition one wasn't loaded. I'm pretty sure you would've pulled an unloaded gun on a charging wolf. :D
The one thing I hope they allow in the game is to build a short ladder or a small stool on the workbench so you can climb on top of it and get to the rafters or get to the top shelves or get to the top of cabinets and put stuff there, there's a lot of wasted space in bases.
I really enjoy you exhibiting the learning process within your playthrough, in this case the snow shelter fishing. It encourages me to get out of my comfort zone here and there when I play. There's always more to find out. I wonder if you can do this right in front of Camp Office and spend all day reeling in fish practically on your doorstep.
Always turn of cabin fever since I find it to be too unrealistic in an survivor situation. Who wouldn't want to sit by the fireplace instead of sleeping in a cave.
1:30:52 BTW, the Tactical Gloves might impart more warmth overall than Rabbitskin Mitts due to their 1°C windproof bonus advantage. They're also lighter, more protective and reduce mobility less. My ensemble is currently rabbit cruelty-free since the Aviator Cap replaces the Rabbitskin Hat.
Well done Sir, Well done. Don't forget that Wildlife rest and the Cougar are coming in the next patch as well, and I do believe that will have just as much of an impact of choosing your main base as the ability to customize it.
I vote for camp office new base relocation. More Space, more central in ML, Closer of the lake for fishing (fish is heaviest than meat). You should keep trapper's cabin as secondary base to hunt a Bear or the Magic moose.
I'm a bit over halfway through, but experimenting and leveling fishing aside......this seemed like a bit of an uphill skate to fix the scurvy risk? Am i missing somethig as far as jiust making 2 tipups and setting them in the middle of the pond and coming back every 2-3 hours? Or just going into the shelter and pasing time listening for the bells? Not trying to be snarky....but im not super experienced and figure im missing something 😂
I hope with the refresh thay make the fire hardened arrow work against wolves like smacking them with a rock works, to make them run away. That would be awesome 👌
Let's go another episode! Wanted to ask would you consider bringing 2 pots with you instead of a pot and skillet? I find I never use a skillet on the go, but having 2 pots let's me be able to make 4 litres of water at any time (without having to fill up the after an hour) which I find really really helpful.
I just had a great idea, if there’s some reason why this is not doable or just plain bad let me know… portable shelter, made of a moose or bear hide or even both. I imagine a high resource cost would be important in order for it to not break the game. Like a hide lean-to or teepee.
Thank you for adding the Wales part, I'm Welsh myself and have seen so many people take the Welsh part away from it and twist it into something else. Just a pet peeve of mine lol
Hello! This game looks great. But I seen it as an old game. Why lots people still play it? Does it have rouge-like thing? or random the environment? or something like random maps and objective?
Doesnt matter that it is "old" as in from 2017. Counterstrike is from 1999 and people still play it. It does not have random maps or objectives - its an open survival world where you fight the elements and make your own story. It is fantastic and I highly recommend it.

Welcome Home,
but no time to rest, as we look forward to 🏡Cabin Flipper Zak episodes coming soon...
I’ve always thought that BRR needs a fishing hut. Canadians love ice fishing and a hunting retreat without one seems incomplete.
I’m pretty new to the long dark. I’ve learned a lot from your videos especially this series. Keep the great content coming.
I've come to realize that I'm really looking forward to your videos, they are calm, relaxing and entertaining! Very enjoyable, thank you very much for them!

28:42 dang it Editing Zak, any time we see you something gets messed up or goes wrong. You’re fired 🤣
I’m voting to move base to Camp Office!
Don't forget that the special fish (the Goldeye and Burbot) don't actually have any Vitamin C, though.
You are collecting more stuff than I do 😜!! what a journey home … The end reminds me a _little bit_ about last year’s halloween special 😅
Hiraeth is my favorite word. It’s also very TLDish.
Had to google the translation of this one 😂. Zack makes me learn new things
Thanks!
Thank you so much!

I am also homesick! I thought I was being a little weird for feeling like this because it's a game! But the feeling is real all the same.
Always turn of cabin fever since I find it to be too unrealistic in an survivor situation. Who wouldn't want to sit by the fireplace instead of sleeping in a cave.
The anxiety your scurvy risk bar gave me, I would've IMMEDIATELY fished like a mad man. xD
Your homesickness will end soon. It’ll be good to get back home.
It's amazing to see how much more forgiving the game is now compared to how things had been in the far territories.
Crossing the log with the Travois?! Bravo! Good to know...

That safe is definitely going to have to be moved across to a new safehouse. I like the idea of cash and rare bits going in it
this was such a welcome start to my day

Finding the perfect fishable spot to build snow Shelter is always hard/tricky. I don't understand why hinterland don't improve that...
Welcome home Zak!!
If the hunting lodge or the lake down would have a good fishing place, that would be perfect… I never catched a lot there

Love this series, always looking forward to the next episode
@1:21:01 Never a dull moment. 😀
57:00 is that a thing??? Passing time while interacting with the bed means you are actually getting a temp buff?
Of course - you are using the bed after all. Same as sleeping.
What a journey !

FWIW I vote for improving Trappers 😂

Pôb lŵc yn yr eira Zak...cadwch yn cynnes!
Zak the loot master 😂
47:03 I watch LBZ and Jessie Holmes and other cast members use to catch burbot and said it’s delicious .
doing that trip in one run to Camp Office was scary

Upcoming wildlife reset for the win.

(especially in the context of Wales or Welsh culture) deep longing for something, especially one's home.
Thank you for adding the Wales part, I'm Welsh myself and have seen so many people take the Welsh part away from it and twist it into something else. Just a pet peeve of mine lol
@@MadPetal Didn't I say it was Welsh? If not, then I am sorry.
@Zaknafein you're good! Haven't fully watched the video yet, still catching up. Wasn't directed at you was just having a rant to the air
i literally just googled it so my fellow Americans would know what it means. lol
«Skal vi se!»
Did you pop open a wine bottle around 1:11:57 🍾 hhshsh
Haha no idea what that was
I’m curious about whether base improvement will include light sources. I like the Hunting Lodge, but I always find it too dark.
I think Raph said that for now there are no new light sources
btw the rare fish actually don't have any vitamin C for some reason
You could return to misery mode until the update for base customization is released.
After aiming with guns on console, it seems impossible to hit animals. This requires a special sensitivity setting or something else.
Nice❤

Hiraeth! Have you Welsh ancestry Mr Zak?.

That's not legit. You had a four hour long fire but fished for 6 hours and the fire was still lit when you were done fishing.
Thats because of the fire starting skill being level 5 and I am outdoors. The timer isnt representative.
Outdoor Fire last 50% longer with level 5. So 1 hour on the timer is 1.5 in actuality thus a 4 hour fire = 6 game hours.
