Hi all - thanks for tuning into the podcast and sharing your thoughts/comments! It's very much appreciated and I'm always looking to improve the experience for my viewers/listeners. I've noted some feedback and would love to hear from others, too. Please reply to this thread and I'll keep them in mind for the future. Finally, any future dream guests you'd like to see featured on the podcast? Let me know!
A really important thing Raph said to himself that he may not know is: "we are still delivering on that promise ten years later" He said it in a shameful sense, but the players see that as a beautiful dedication. Reframe that thought baby!
I agree, it’s only a very small minority of TLD players that care about story mode anyways. He’s developing the part of his game that the vast majority of his fans want developed while insuring the quality of released content is top tier.
Gentlemen thanks for the pod cast. I'm currently playing The Long Dark while listening to you guys chat about it. Just made it to the summit of Timberwolf mountain. Now the inventory management kicks in.
Dang bro... 35 subs and you're interviewing Raph... like THE RAPH?!? Well done sir, now I'll listen. I hope my expectations aren't too high (that's not a dig at you, more so at me) 😊 Tell ya what, if it's good, I'll be your 36th
This game is like he tapped directly into what my idea of a perfect game is. I tried playing Skyrim a few months ago and just couldn’t do it and went back to TLD.
The interviewer just goes on and on when he should just put forward a statement or question to be addressed but he gives a 5 minute statement making several possible points.
There are two price points for any game... there is the upgrade (DLC) price, and there is the price of the current version (with all DLC's). Work on early/past releases depreciates, just like CAPEX in any business. Customer interest increases to meet your current version cost as perceived value increases with new investment in the product.
Rarely do you buy and enjoy entertainment from such an amazing individual. I'm not a hardcore gamer...TLD is largely the exception (okay a few other games have sucked me in over the years, but I can go a long time without gaming depending what is going on in my life). This game got me through Covid and some other fairly traumatic life situations. If that were not enough, it's prob the best value in gaming history if you consider how much time a lot of us get out of it. I paid $20 for it and whatever the DLC was.
Some feedback for interview videos: The first time the person you're interviewing speaks shouldn't be five minutes deep into the video. You had a lengthy introduction to the person you're interviewing before the interview, followed by your podcast theme, followed by the start of the interview in which you repeat much of the information you stated minutes before in the pre-interview. While the start of the interview itself was still too long, this redundant pre-interview introduction compounded the problem. Either have the pre-interview introduction or a (preferably much, much shorter) intro during the interview itself, but there's no reason to do both. It's important that the audience, who is here to hear from who you are interviewing, doesn't lose interest. Even fast-forwarding to when Raphael first speaks, the beginning of this video tested my patience. You almost certainly lost some viewers in the beginning.
as my YT name suggests, I am absolutely obsessed with the greatest survival game ever created at over 11k hours let's just say I might need to get a life lol
If only one game had the quality of TLD, it called Quad-A :) 1000+ hours in the sandbox ;-) My GF is not really a gamer, but she loves TLD and she plays only Interloper, she finished over 100 Days on Loper now...i am little bit jealous, coz i play Custommix of Stalker/Interloper.
Maybe the original plan was for The Long Dark to be narrative driven, but that's not why I've been playing it since 2015. Wintermute is fun, but it's much less important than survival mode IMHO.
They didn't built it, they are still building it ... and in 8th year after official game release, main story is still not completed. So, technically, game is more than full 7 years in "early access". For clarification, I am not interested in survival mode but I bought it with story (and DLC later), hoping that will help studio to complete story mode faster. Instead, Hinterland decided to release DLC first (for game mode which I am not so much interested), than to develop Switch version (which also isn't completed), ... while story mode kept being delayed again and again. Hinterland's latest promise is 2025. but after so many delays, I just don't trust their single word anymore ... While the game is great and I enjoyed it a lot, Hinterland studio's continuous fail to deliver on their set timelines lost me as a customer for any of their future products. Acta non verba Hinterland!
I must admit I am a little disappointed that this contains almost nothing on "how it was made" - this is all about "how this was placed as a product"... really? 1,5 just about this marketing stuff? To me it sheds a bad light on my experience...
I've played TLD over 1,000 hours so very much enjoy the game. The programming however is seriously lacking as a fellow programmer I have noticed the worst amount of bugs on any game I have ever played by a long shot - truly atrocious. They never release anything without tonnes of bugs that need 1 , 2 or 3 system patches to get right after each release.....such a bad way to make something and then release it as not a polished or completed project. They actually seem to rely on users feedback to tell them of bugs after release it seems....that's not how games are supposed to be made and released for paying members. What happened to bug testing ? I'm not even going to talk about serious issues that never fixed for several years like 1 inch snow stops the player walking or things like that..
That hasn't been my experience- only problems i can think of were a couple crashes maybe and that was after i started using mods. Idk, maybe i missed the buggy phases of TLD. I played pretty early on, then took a long break, then recently started binging hard on survival. I imagine that catching bugs before release depends on funding, and that any game will be somewhat reliant upon feedback and patching.
@@bubbavox Ok well unless you read all the updates each time you might not notice it as much plus the last major update was the only one in a number of year that went quite well....they actually used bug testers for that one...seemed to work out quite well but every other one somewhere between poor and terrible.

Just about anyone from 11 Bit Studios would be amazing.
I have spent way more than a 1000 hours playing this game and it gives me a lot of joy to see how passionate Raph still is about its developement.
I’m playing TLD for years now. This game is one of the best ever. Ingenious!
A really important thing Raph said to himself that he may not know is: "we are still delivering on that promise ten years later"

What a great guy.
I love that he thinks so much about other people and how honest and humble he is.
A great game from a very nice developer.

Remember that you don't have to climb down any ropes. You can just walk down to Mountaineer's Hut.
this game is in a class by itself 🙂
I'm coming to really like it. Cozy danger!
Ill always support hinterland. The long dark deserves a special place in my heart
Thank you for this podcast. A great Dev with a great game. The Long Dark is the King of games. I absolutely love this game 😍
Absolutely love this game

A truly wonderful experience in the Long Dark, the most immersive game ive played.
Great podcast.
Nice, clean and no fluff
love it!
TLD too ... where I have over 2600h :)
Great podcast
Great guest
Great game

This interviewer needs to stop talking. stop trying to sound smart, and just ask questions and let the subject lead the interview
It feels like the prompts were thoughtful but quite open-ended. Good thing Raph is a good talker!
So what you are saying is this first paragraph of a question is gonna set the tone moving forward then?
I'm agreeing, a whole 5 mins of disclaimers and various intro stuff to wade through before hearing the guest get a chance to speak!
The interviewer just goes on and on when he should just put forward a statement or question to be addressed but he gives a 5 minute statement making several possible points.
Ahh more content to listen to while I play the long dark
1:00 Holy massive volume shift
I have a few thousand hours in this game and I plan on a few thousand more. It's just so good.
I Love The Long Dark 🙏

TLD is a masterpiece.
The best game ever
Best Game Ever 💯
This isn't tiktok dude I don't need colored subtitles. There's a button if I want to turn those on.

güzel bir podcast olmuş.

I got TLD back in 2016 ( yes have the DLC as well) and just look an have over 6K hours, think I like this game LOL

I wonder how Raph feels that I'm using the Darkwalker as a Christmas Profile pic...
It’s not that complicated: there’s three parts-two related games and a dlc for one of them. What’s so hard about that?
I must admit I am a little disappointed that this contains almost nothing on "how it was made" - this is all about "how this was placed as a product"... really? 1,5 just about this marketing stuff? To me it sheds a bad light on my experience...
It is important that there are no zombies. Glowing wolves supercharged by the night sky are much more realistic. ;)
Much easier to suspend disbelief compared to magic walking corpses.
says the guy that changed the cougar because they where pulled willy nillie ,,
www.cdc.gov/stroke/signs-symptoms/index.html
They were not "pulled willy nilly," the community feedback was overwhelmingly negative. It was a shit mechanic that needed overhauling

I'm guessing you've never played a Bethesda game.
@@JonathanRossRogers no cant say I have. Not for long timer at least..
