  • Just shy of 100 aircraft, the fleet of Vietnam Airlines is fairly modern and has an overall average age of just under eight years making it quite young when compared to other major airlines. The Vietnamese flag carrier operates both the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 and has further plans to expand and modernize its narrowbody fleet, which currently consist of Airbus A321s and a single ATR72. In this video, we take an in-depth look at the mainline fleet of Vietnam Airlines.

    While they did take a hit during covid, remember that the HAN-SGN route was the busiest air route in the world at some point during the pandemic (I know you mentioned those routes were very busy). It looks like their 787 dreamliners are their only planes with lie flat business (Maybe their a350s too), so it’s nice to hear they’re taking delivery of more

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The airline offered lie-flat business on all 787s and A350s. I remembered during the pandemic, the ticket prices for SGNHAN route was very cheap, maybe about 1/2 of the regular prices, and also the airline announced to use wide-body aircrafts for most of the flights on this route during the pandemic, as a way to promote the local travel industry. That's why the route was very busy during the pandemic (with an exception of a short period during the most severe outbreak of the pandemic)

    I’d love to see Vietnam Airlines fly the Airbus A220 and since it is an extremely efficient regional jet I think the A220-100 would serve the airline well for ATR replacement and maybe some A220-300s or A320 neo aircraft for their short- medium haul needs… Vietnam 🇻🇳 should only go with the Airbus A220/A320 neo families since they already operate A321 neo fleet commonality would help lower costs…

    The Airline has 2 sub-airlines: Vasco and Pacific which are not as efficient as the main one, so that the recovery from Covid is really slow compared to its main competitor in domestic market: VietJetAir. However, the quality of this airline is undeniable the best in the country and I hope it would survive and expand its service

    As for replacement of the ATR fleet, the E190-E2 would be best. Not only it will boost Embraer's current presence in the country and providing a bit of healthy competition for VNA's rival Bamboo Airways (who operates the older E190), but the E190-E2 takeoff and landing distance, on paper, is slightly less than the A220-100, fitting since some of the airport VNA wanted to serve only has a runway of less than 2000m (before upgrading). Specifically, Con Dao airport (VCS) and Dien Bien (DIN) are both 1830m (6004 ft) and Rach Gia (VKG) is 1500m (4920 ft).
    For the A321ceos, I'd say keep going with the A321neos or be brave and go with the MAX 8 or 9. Maybe ordering the A321XLR would be a better choice since they already operate the type, which can save on training and maintenance cost. But then again, seeing Vietnamese airports crowded with A320s and A321s is kinda boring. And VietJet is bringing the MAX in to Vietnam.

      I agree with you man 100% The ATR72-600'S Turboprops can be Replaced in Vietnam Airlines Fleet but the Embraer E190-E2's Or E195-E2's depending on the demand of which Airports the Vietnamese Carrier can operate them on the Airbus A320Neo Family Jets is a good Choice for The Carrier even The Boeing 787 Dreamliners too but the Boeing 737 Max Family I rather they put a hold on that for now however The A321XLR's will be a good move for them after there Launch for 2024 we just have too wait and see what happens next in terms for the NMA'S Release for that year.

    Wonder if the ATR72-600 was every considered as the natural successor to their current domestic fleet? I’ve flown Vietnam Airlines a few years back. They’re consistently the most affordable full-service option when travelling north of Malaysia and Singapore. Their product is nothing to scoff at either, a decent IFE offering on their long haul fleet and plush economy class seats on their regional fleet, all on very clean aircraft. I also really like their choice of upholstery colour, especially on their A321 business class.

    • @khoanguyenavia
      @khoanguyenavia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. Vietnam Airlines did operate the ATR 72, but not the -600, and are currently in the process of retiring the fleet, to be replaced by a more modern regional jet fleet to serve airports unable to accommodate the A321 like Dien Bien, Con Dao, Rach Gia. The replacement is due to be announced next year. At the moment, it is not certain which type is chosen, but it's likely that it is either the A220-100 or the E190-E2. Embraer already had a presence in Vietnam with Bamboo Airways currently operating the E190 and previously operated the stretched E195 to great success. And Airbus is just natural since most Vietnamese carriers use Airbus narrowbodies for their short haul domestic fleet.
      As for their other types, they are betting on the A321neo. They might have possibly ordered the A320neo to replace older A321ceos, but I'm not so sure about it.

  • @philippgabler5835
    @philippgabler5835 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    One thing also worth mentioning is, that their A321neo's look like they have no "cabin flex option". Something you see very rarely! Would be interesting why that is.

  • @namt5150
    @namt5150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Have never taken other Vietnamese carriers' business class, but what I can tell is VNA's A321 business class feels rather dated. IFE is not a problem or available (given that the only route I have flown it in my life, SGN-BMV, is just 40mins long, I once tried to pull out the IFE screen when I was young only to be told to stow it haha), but the seat controls are manual and I'd appreciate a refresh. I think the A321neos are also fitted with the same seats (but my memory is hazy.)
    The staff, however, are really good at what they do. Even though VNA has been through financial trouble recently they always worked normally. I never got the impression that the airline was struggling.

    Vietnam Airlines should definitely pick the A220 as a replacement for the ATR as it has more capacity in a 3-2 layout as opposed to a 2-2 layout on the e190. Vietnam airlines don’t need the extra range that the E Jet family provides for regional flights. The A220, although it will take a bit longer to land and takeoff, will still fit into the smaller airports since they are getting upgraded, and will fit in perfectly with the already airbus orientated fleet.

Right now I think they\ll try to maintain the domestic market and increasing international routes back to pre-covid. Still don't understand how they ruled out eastern European as there are plenty of Vietnamese in Czech Republic, Poland and Berlin like Bamboo Airways planned.
