Enjoying your excellent content. Gets better with each video. Just one piece of constructive criticism. Please stop using the dishonest/deceptive clickbait thumbnails. (DON'T TRAVEL TO VIETNAM). That old trick is for amateurs who only think about short term clicks. Your channel will grow organically with your awesome content. Don't risk damaging the trust you have built with your loyal viewers and subscribers.

Generally I haven't been impressed with the character or quality of most TH-cam "influencers" or their content (most of them are very superficial, etc.), however it is very refreshing to have discovered you and your channel since you are way more authentic, "down to earth", and helpful than most of the others I've seen here.

Hanoi is the most polluted city in Southeast Asia, making human lungs especially vulnerable to infection like Covid, hence Commie Vietnam also topped the list of Covid deaths in the region. North Vietnamese Commie terrorists invaded and took over the free and prosperous Republic of South Vietnam in 1975, then enslaved the whole country. North Korea Commie terrorists would have done similarly by invading the free Republic of South Korea without US help. There is a reason why during the 1954 Geneva Accord, 700K North Vietnamese fled to South Vietnam to escape the brutal Communist regime in North Vietnam, not to mention Commie China's puppet Ho Chi Minh's deadly land-reform (1953-1956) that slaughtered nearly 1 million North Vietnamese to rob their lands and homes at the same time, while essentially no one escaped South Vietnam to head to North Vietnam.

@@Joda47 If true, consider yourself a super-minority, because the vast majority of foreign visitors never want to return to Vietnam a second time, based on many surveys, including the regime's own survey, as the Commie China's puppet the North Vietnamese Commie terrorist regime has turned this country into a miserable sh*t hole after its invasion of the free and prosperous Republic of South Vietnam.

Search "cuop dat dan" right here on TH-cam to see the ongoing, systemic land-robbing of Vietnamese citizens by the utterly corrupt and brutal Vietnamese Commie terrorist regime, spanning for decades since Commie Chinese puppet Ho Chi Minh's deadly land-reform (1953-1956) that massacred nearly 1 million North Vietnamese civilians.

About the Beer, 80% of the time they'll served you the cold one. For the other 20%, just ask them to change it for you or ask for a bucket of ice to chill it yourself, have one with the ice to wait for the rest to chill :)) We use a lot of ice here in Vietnam because of the weather, the beer won't stay cold for long so ice is the way to go. For most of the soft drinks, they're very sweet and needed to be diluted by the ice, so don't drink it out of the can/bottle.

For me, I have mix emotions when it comes to VN. I miss the VN of old, like 20 years ago, where I would get an egg bread roll from an old lady on the street made fresh for breakfast. Now, there is aircon restaurants everywhere. Having said that, happy for the country itself that it's developing. The war did put VN many many years back in development.

    • @thethaovatoquoc312

As long as Vietnam is still ruled by the oppressive and exploitive Communist regime, her potential remains greatly diminished. For any 1% that wants to stay, 99% of the population wants to get out, and many have risked their lives doing just that (for example, 39 doomed lives found in UK container truck recently on the news, and that's only what's been reported), unfortunately. Yet another shocking and also recent example is that during the Covid pandemic when almost all countries assisted their citizens with financial aids in one form or another, the corrupt and murderous Vietnamese Commie regime saw it just another opportunity not to help but to exploit its ruled citizens even more, essentially making money over the corpses of its citizens by presumably killing at least 30K of them, due to misdiagnosis and being and cramped into barbwired unhygenic living quarters for isolations, so that they had to sleep on the concrete floors, with inadequate food, water, or medicine, like animals, with the fake nostril Covid test kits, mislabeled as approved by World Health Organization (WHO) in Việt Á scandal, colluded by at least 4 different government agencies (Y Tế , Khoa Học, Công Nghệ, Quân y) and the top Politburo members, including Nguyễn Phú Trọng, Phạm Minh Chính, Nguyễn Xuân Phúc. Murderous Vietnamese Commie regime even had a thug murdered Christian pastor Giuse Trần Ngọc Thanh, like it has done with many other pastors across the nation. There is a reason why the current Commie Vietnam ranks at the bottom of the world in freedom of speech and freedom of the press, barely above Commie China and Commie North Korea. Similarly, its passport ranks at the bottom, 89th out of 111 countries for a reason, barely above North Koea 104th rank. even below many African nations. For comparison, South Korea 2nd rank. That's what Republic of South Vietnam would have likely been ranked among at least the top 10 had it not been invaded and occupied by the North Vietnamese Commie terrorists, aided by Commie Soviet and Commie China.
Travelers to Vietnam in her current form (not at all like this before the Communists took over) should keep this in mind. Behind the beauty of the land and smiling faces at popular tourist destinations, there are a lot of darkness and sorrow, horror, and sufferings all over the country.

I grew up in the north of Vietnam. I don't understand the "yum" thing until I saw your comment :). So I guess this only applies when you are on the south. Due to the northern accent, "yum" is totally fine in the north because it is not close to any Vietnamese words spoken with the northern accent. In the southern accent it does sound like the Vietnamese word for horny.

I thought myself to be quite well-informed...before making actual visits. I/we have found Vietnam to be stunning in so many ways-very good ways. In the cities, the traffic-the thousands and thousands of mopeds. The people are most kind and gracious. The food rivals the best in the world-a spectacular, year-round variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and sea food that just doesn't quit. And, rural Vietnam is beautiful.
We were/are fortunate to have "connections" here...connections that offer an "inside" experience. FYI, Laos is wonderful too.

Any honest Vietnamese friends would give you a fair warning though. Freshly made food is only good if it's not contaminated. Otherwise, you would just end up with freshly made contaminated food. Quality control of food in Commie Vietnam is dubious at best and deadly at worse, even when grown organically. Plenty of agricultural products in Commie Vietnam were grown with unchecked fertilizer and even human wastes. Food exports from Commie Vietnam were routinely banned in many European countries and US for high levels of embedded contaminants. Those rejected exported foods were then sold in Vietnam to consumers. Many fruits in Vietnam were actually imported from Commie China with low quality control, including those rejected by Chinese food standard board. All true. Please do your research. Here's a few clues to get you on the right direction: "EU cảnh báo mỳ ăn liền Việt Nam chứa ethylene oxide vượt ngưỡng", "Catfish from Vietnam recalled for lack of reinspection". Tons more if keep searching. There is a reason why "Vietnam among countries with highest cancer rates globally". The article just came out today, so that's the most updated info one can get. But here's another article from last year "Vietnam position worsens on global cancer map: report". But it's not only the food to be blamed but also the air and water pollution. Search "Air pollution is Vietnam’s silent killer" or "Hanoi the most polluted city in Southeast Asia". Heavily contaminated food and water and deadly air pollution all contribute to the high morbidity and mortality rate in Commie Vietnam, unfortunately.

Thank you, I indeed enjoyed your video. My only shock was your unfamiliarity of Vietnam's French connection. This brings up an important activity travelers should always do before venturing to a new country. One should read up on that country's history. Not only will it make the trip far more interesting and relatable, but that knowledge could prevent possible embarrassing and/or insulting interactions with the locals.

The French influence in VN is now limited to the architecture of some old buildings like churches , post offices , opera houses , villas , etc... But the French language is no longer as important as before . Nowadays , the young generation prefers to learn English , Korean or Japanese . Only a few old-timers are still fluent in French . Today there is a sentence that the Vietnamese like say : l`Anglais est la langue de l`avenir et le Français est la langue du souvenir . ( I hope that Mandy who is Canadian could understand what it means ) . Also maybe , you didn`t have enough time to check-out the other beautiful areas of VN , you didn`t mention that besides Ha Long Bay , VN has the most gorgeous and stunning landscapes in SEA , such as Ha Giang loop , Mu Cang Chai rice terraces , Ninh Binh , Phong Nha Ke Bang national park ( nicknamed the cave kingdom ) where is located the biggest and largest cave in the world Son Doong and over 300 other stunning caves forming a huge cave system in VN , Cuc Phuong and Cat Tiên national parks , Phu Quoc Islands with the longest over the sea cable car in the world ( 8 km long and 27 minute ride ) , Con Dao islands , Ban Gioc waterfalls , the Central Highlands ( the land of tea and coffee plantations ) , the ecosystem mangrove forests in Cân Gio and Ca Mau recognized by the UNESCO as one of the most important in the world , Bach Long bridge , the longest glass bridge in the world ( about 655 m long ) in Moc Châu ( Son La province ) and much more interesting sites . To discover all what VN is offering to tourists , you have to spend at least 4 to 6 months there .

A couple of previous crook gut incidents have made us more wary.

Also ask if your drink is hot or cold without ice , got caught off guard when I order a peach drink and it was hot without ice . Last expect half a drink without ice maybe less lol.

That’s why I had the idea that everyone should spend at least two weeks in another country; to see how other people live around the world, to experience the culture and how their lives differ.
The French, English and Spanish all had colonies in Asia spreading their influence in the past. The first time I landed in Saigon and went to what WAS the piece of land where my grandparents(mother’s side) lived, all the stories I heard it sounded rural with lots of trees. I was surprised that the area was so developed that the house is now buried deep in the middle of an alleyway, no trees at all and there is a really stinky river nearby. I would loved to have seen the area when my mother lived their back in the late 50s and 60s.

Honestly Vietnam is not that developed at all, the MAJOR cities of course but Vietnam as a nation not at all. Poverty is some of the highest standards of living are horrible death rates based on heath issues are some of the highest in Asia
Vietnam is very smart to keep main cities looking good for sure for the tourism but past that its for show
Saigon for example, if you move to District 4,5,8, or even 12 they are land fills, everything is falling apart its just err its bad
But you get to district 1,2,3, 7, or even Go Vap you'll see a "Modern" look most buildings don't last past 10 years and the chaos follows from the poor to rich areas sadly.
If you take away the iPhones and TVs Vietnam really is just farm land, not a bad thing at all..but this proclaim I see so much that Vietnam is so developed is just insane. Thailand is border line America in regards to tech, living conditions, poverty levels etc, Singapore, Japan, West Cambodia all are way above Vietnam.

As a full time expat in Vietnam, the lunch time nap is a big part of the routine here for many people.

If it's the other way round, for example Vietnamese or Mexican going to America then it would be a migrant.

I wish I knew more about Danang before traveling there. As far as prices, I had a super affordable ocean view hotel room. The hotel staff were excellent and recommended private drivers to take me around to see the sights. It was worth it since I don't like all-day bus tours. What I didn't like is the food selection in the beach area. There was nothing but those overpriced seafood tank restaurants. I love seafood but I'm not going to pay $100 USD for a lobster. Another thing that I was not prepared for was how the entire Vietnamese family including grandma and grandpa go on vacation together. They hit the beach at sunrise because they don't like to be in the sun during midday. The hotel lobby was constantly noisy with kids running around while the whole family was waiting to check-in to their room. Oh and the whole family stay in one room to save on cost.

Haha yeah beaches are crowded at sunrise and sunset. Rest of the day you have them to yourself. Crack open a coconut, bring some snacks and you’re ready to chill!

They never said they expected them to speak English... they were just comparing the proficiency levels with the other countries in SE Asia because they understand most their viewers are English only speakers looking to visit these places.

Dear Mandy and Lloyd, I would urge you both to do more research before you visit different countries. Being surprised that cities are “developed” in Vietnam is quite patronizing (and upset me a lot when I heard it!) and knowing nothing about Vietnam’s colonial past is inexcusable for people who are posting travel content. You both can do better.

My wife and I are going to Vietnam in November 2022. The thing that most made us want to go there is Halong Bay. We're flying fron Houston Texas to Hanoi, then flying to Da Nang. 2 days in Da Nang, 1 in Hoi An, then flying back to Hanoi for a 3 day 2 night cruise on Halong Bay. Then we have 2 days in Hanoi before we fly back to Texas. We really enjoy watching travel videos on TH-cam, thank you for your content. We enjoy it a lot.

I think that’s a good itinerary. If only you could stay longer in Vietnam cause Ninh Binh city, Nha Trang city, Da Lat city, Ho Chi Minh City, and Phu Quoc island are very beautiful as well.
