Can Vietnam Airlines' Business Class meet the standards of other big East- and Southeast Asian Carrier such as Singapore Airlines, ANA or Cathay Pacific? I find the answer to this question in this Vietnam Airlines Business Class Trip Report.

    About Vietnam Airlines (from Wikipedia):
Vietnam Airlines (Vietnamese: Hãng Hàng không Quốc gia Việt Nam, lit. 'Vietnam National Airlines') is the flag carrier of Vietnam. The airline was founded in 1956 and later established as a state-owned enterprise in April 1989. Vietnam Airlines is headquartered in Long Biên district, Hanoi, with hubs at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. The airline flies to 64 destinations in 17 countries, excluding codeshared services.
From its inception until the early 1990s, Vietnam Airlines was a minor carrier within the aviation industry as it was hampered by a variety of factors including the socio-economic and political situation of the country. With the government's normalization of relations with the United States, the airline was able to expand, improve its products and services, and modernize its ageing fleet. In 1996, the Vietnamese government brought together 20 service companies to form Vietnam Airlines Corporation, with the airline itself as the centrepiece. In 2010, the corporation was restructured into a limited liability company and renamed Vietnam Airlines Company Limited. A seven-seat management board, members of which are appointed by the Vietnamese Prime Minister, oversees the company.
As passenger transport constitutes its core activity, Vietnam Airlines plays a crucial role in the economic development of the country. It owns 100% of Vietnam Air Service Company - a regional airline in southern Vietnam and almost 99%% of the low-cost carrier Pacific Airlines. In addition, the corporation earns revenue from airline catering and the maintenance and overhauling of aircraft through a number of its subsidiaries, including Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company and Vietnam Airlines Caterers. The company has also diversified its investments in the aircraft-leasing and airport ground-servicing industries, and is looking to manufacture aircraft components. It controls and operates a cargo division, Vietnam Airlines Cargo.
Vietnam Airlines became a member of SkyTeam in June 2010, making it the first Southeast Asian carrier to have joined that alliance. As of September 2021, the State's stake in Vietnam Airlines is 86.34%, All Nippon Airways holds 5.62%, being a strategic shareholder of the national flag carrier.
About the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (from Wikipedia):
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is an American wide-body jet airliner developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. After dropping its unconventional Sonic Cruiser project, Boeing announced the conventional 7E7 on January 29, 2003, which focused largely on efficiency. The program was launched on April 26, 2004, with an order for 50 aircraft from All Nippon Airways (ANA), targeting a 2008 introduction. On July 8, 2007, a prototype 787 was rolled out without major operating systems, and then the aircraft experienced multiple delays until its maiden flight on December 15, 2009. Type certification was received in August 2011 and the first 787-8 was delivered in September 2011 before entering commercial service on October 26, 2011, with ANA.
At launch, Boeing targeted the 787 with 20% less fuel burn than replaced aircraft like the Boeing 767, carrying 200 to 300 passengers on point-to-point routes up to 8,500 nautical miles (15,700 km), a shift from hub-and-spoke travel. The twinjet is powered by General Electric GEnx or Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 high-bypass turbofans. It is the first airliner with an airframe primarily made of composite materials and makes extensive use of electrical systems. Externally, it is recognizable by its four-window cockpit, raked wingtips, and noise-reducing chevrons on its engine nacelles. Development and production rely increasingly on subcontractors around the world, with final assembly at Boeing South Carolina in North Charleston, after having also been assembled in the Boeing Everett Factory in Washington until March 2021.

Having this level of service , this type of plane on a 2 hours domestic flight is impossible to see in my country Canada or anywhere in North America. You’ll be lucky to get a cup of coke ( not even a full can ) and a mini pack of bretzels that would make a 5 years old throw a tantrum and cry asking for more 😂 . I’m planing a business class trip with Vietnam airlines on my way back home from Australia at the end of the year . I was a bit scared when I saw the cheap price of 2600$ AUD ( which is literally impossible to find anywhere else ) one way but after seeing a few videos , I’m convinced that this airline is actually good .

I would suggest you to have a layover for one or two days if that is possible since Vietnam is an amazing country!

Thanks Johnny for this honest and excellent review. I live in HCMC and you are on point with you video. There should be a seperate business class check-in however, not sure what happened there. The chaos and rudeness you experienced, is just how it unfortunately works in Vietnam. Vietnam Airlines is still the best option in Vietnam by far.
The lounge is indeed overcrowded and this is due to other airlines having the option for any passenger to pay to get access regarding of which class they fly. The price was 450K VND last time i checked. This lounge was much calmer a few years ago but now it's a disaster.
Thanks again for your review and I'm looking forward to see more.

From what I have experienced, customer service in Vietnam is not too bad at all, even in comparison to some European countries. But as far as the airport in HCMC and the lounge is concerned, there is still room for improvement. I also think that Vietnam Airlines is the best option in the country. Thank you very much for watching. It makes me happy to know that you like my video. Best regards to Vietnam! :)

    Superb content Johnny, cheers!
I flew Ho Chi Minh-Singapore with Vietnam Airlines once, this year decided to try out Singapore Airlines' business class, and imo it's certainly a better choice. With VNA you don't always get to experience the newer B787, but SIA's quality and services can easily overcome the fact that its A350, which is quite old, is still the only option for short-haul flights from Ho Chi Minh.
The main downside with Tan Son Nhat airport is that they don't have partners' lounges from any of Vietnam Airlines's SkyTeam alliance member (only VNA's own lounges and Tan Son Nhat's), whereas Changi airport has everything you can ask for, which imo can make you feel the price of VNA's business class is not justified for the sub-par experience at Tan Son Nhat.

    • @theRealJohnnyG.
      @theRealJohnnyG.  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Thank you for your comment, I'm glad that you like my content!😊 I fully agree, currently Vietnam Airlines has still quite a far way to go if they want to be on Singapore Airlines' Level. And yes, the business class ground experience at Tan Son Nhat is far from ideal. In my experience the onboard experience on the VNA 787 was quite decent (considering the low fares). At the end of the day everyone has do decide by themselves if it's worth for them I guess...

Hi Johny, the business class/Sky Priority is permanently located C counters with the priority security next to it in the domestic terminal. Did you not find it? For your flight, the flight changes don’t really matter because on Saigon-Hanoi route, you can get on earlier flights if there is seat available in your booking class without any additional costs.

Living here in Saigon since 8 years and have taken VNA dozens of times. Things really improved but it’s NOT to be compared with 5 star airlines. TNS is one of the worst airports in Asia. Took me 85 minutes last week to go through immigration. Way over its capacity ! I am flying to FRA next week in Biz class. Interesting they DO refer to noise canceling air-phones though on their website …. Curious what it’s going to be.

I have never taken VNA Business internationally and I'm not sure if you'll get noise cancellheadphones. As of what I've seen in other videos VNA doesn't provide them. However, I hope you still enjoy your flight!☺️ & have a great time in Germany!

4 star airline flying out of 2 star airport
SGN is operating way over capacity they are building a new big airport but it is behind schedule and would imagine they don’t want to spend money on the old airport.

@@theRealJohnnyG. Yes the new Long Thanh airport is under construction about 1 hour outside the city .It is way behind construction but when completed looks like it will be beautiful.
When all the phases are built they plan to make it a regional hub like BKK .In the mean time they are trying to squeeze another terminal building onto the airport to help with traffic but probably a waste of money cause by the time it’s finished the new Long Thanh will be complete.
I live in Saigon and have to say as hectic as it is the airport is at least easy to get to and amazing how they do manage to cope considering the over crowding.
The plus side to all the mayhem at the airport is with all the planes coming and going it’s still relatively cheap to fly around Asia

I’m disappointed when I watch reviews like this, as someone has already pointed out the Business class and Sky priority checkin desks are in a separate area from economy and if you had asked someone they would have directed you to it.
Your comment about filming as well, there are signs everywhere telling people not to film, you’re in a communist country, go to China and you will discover even stricter controls.
As someone has also pointed out there are plenty of choices of aircraft on that journey so even if the aircraft you had booked was cancelled you could have changed to another time slot and if you wanted to sít together did you ask at the checkin counter, they always work very hard to accommodate business class passengers?
I have flown Vietnam Airlines as often as I have flown many European and other Asian carriers and I can say it is actually one of the best for service.
I think perhaps you’re thinking the lounge staff were rude may in fact be a misunderstanding of culture.
I have found several European nations to appear quite rude and abrupt but I also put that down to culture.
