This was an interesting explanation, even if it is not totally accurate. In complete systems of Ba Gua Zhang, many different types of stepping are used. The most basic of these steps are Snake step, i.e. Mud stepping, Lion stepping i.e. what you are calling Xinyi quan stepping. although it is not really how most Xing Yi does it. and crane stepping. Each type of stepping serves a purpose, Mud stepping is not generally used for combat and there are good reasons for that. Lion stepping is the combat step in most cases. I have even seen folks who claim the only step in Ba Gua is Mud stepping use Lion stepping when they show applications.
This is a very poor explanation of Bagua stepping methods to create a weird straw man argument for your method of stepping. Maybe the Baguazhang you learned was partial in its scope but your explanation of the steps and the comparison to the stepping as being ‘internal’ versus ‘external’ based on what you are saying is not accurate.
In my personal opinion, Xinyiquan stepping is better than mud stepping in containing the force, so probably better at developing internal qualities. May be it’s incorrect for me to say internal or external.
@@ChiBody it depends how you’ve learned mudstepping. Also Baguazhang isn’t just mud stepping. Anyone who has studied Baguazhang in depth knows that mudstepping is one of many stepping methods. If you learn mudstepping correctly it allows for just as much internal and external development as any XingYi step

Good explanation
