I know nothing about lawnmowers, but mine is a Troybuilt TB130. Mine would always idle down like it was going to cut out, but then would idle back up. A minute later it would go back down again. I put that spring on the second hole and I think it helped.
I would like to thank you for showing a proper way to adjust the governor speed. I’ve seen many videos showing to move the governor shaft to adjust. If the mower has not been touched you should not mess with the adjust of the shaft. Bending the arm you bent if the preferred way. Some engines have an adjustment screw, most you bend an small arm or tab to adjust.
Kool, I got a 2017 honda hrx217. I love it. If remember where I put my hour meter. I can check the speed. I use the tachometer to check the rpm b4 I make any adjustments on any mower. The honda is fast the 1st few years. So I might adjust the belt tension cable
Just wanted to say thanks, I started my own lawn care business and this video really helped me out for my push mower. When it’s a little wet I just take it cause it pulls itself instead of a thousand pound zero turn
Wounder if you can help I have this same mower and its had a carb replacement and when it's running it sounds like a plane. Very high rpms how can I lower it?
Why was the idle surging at first start up after adding the rpm gauge? Did this spring mount bend fix that issue too? Mine runs fine when throttling up just like yours did. Btw. My self drive quit also. Lol. I have both of those issues after one season of cutting.(Small yard ) And mine is the middle one in that Honda hrx line ,like yours .
Surging on a cold start is common with automatic choke models. It should not continue when the engine is warm or you have a fuel delivery problem (dirty carb). Basically the choke is constantly attempting to find balance until the engine is warm.
Parts Counter Gurus mine ran perfect for the first season ...even cold . Then it started surging unless it is throttled up . Even warm. Mine might be the wax sensor tho. I just thought what you did might had changed it. Thnx 👍
Try cleaning the low speed jet in the carb. You have to remove the idle adjustment screw on top of the carb to remove it. It’s a little black plug, it just pops out. Pry it up with a small screwdriver, it’s held in by small o-rings. There’s a tiny hole in the bottom of it. Run a small wire through the hole to make sure it is clear ( I peel the plastic coating off a bread tie, usually small enough) spray carb spray through the tiny hole making sure it comes out the larger holes on the sides. Reinstall the jet, just push it back in. Put the idle screw back in. Put everything else back and start engine warm it up check idle speed, adjust the screw (has large head and black plastic, the one removed above jet). Should take care of surging. If it doesn’t carb will need to be throughly cleaned. Always helped me.
Too bad Honda doesn’t make the governor arm adjustment by means of turning in or out a screw so dialing in the rpm is simpler. Twisting a stamped piece of metal seems rudimentary.
@@PartsCounterGurus If I may say, it is a bit confusing. If you look at the throttle cable and the control mechanism it is connected to it appears that you are in full throttle position. After you adjust the governor arm you then lower the speed to idle. You can see the cable and mechanism extend to the idle position. It seems you are adjusting RPM for full throttle, which is fine, but it is not for idle. I'm new at this stuff so if I missed something obvious I apologize. I'm not trying to be difficult.
NO. AS I SAID BEFORE: There is no adjustment screw on this carb. I'm LITERALLY adjusting at low speed (16:15). Did you actually watch the video? Coming back here and continually arguing that there is an idle screw on this carb doesn't make it true. Evidence might. Do you have any?
Wish people would learn to use the speed controls in TH-cam. 1.25, 1.5, etc, instead of COMPLAINING about the FREE ADVICE you just got. You're welcome, by the way.

Nice tutorial

How about just moving the right side of the spring from the first hole to the second hole?
That just changes the sensitivity of the governor. Always put the spring back in the original holes.
I googled the plug for my xrx217 and it said ngk bpr6es . Is there a difference ?
There's a slight difference between the two but you can still use it but it might damage the engine
My Idle is too fast but with blade engages rpm is normal. What do I do?
That is not adjusting the idle. You have adjusted governor for operating speed. Idle is the LOWEST speed. Not the highest.
I'm LITERALLY adjusting at low speed (16:15). Did you actually watch the video?
@@PartsCounterGurus ok I went back and checked 16:15 like you said in your other reply to me and it sounds like full speed.

You better should adjust the Idle with the Idle screw on carburetor instead of bending the governor arm!
Except when there isn't an idle screw, like for instance, the Honda in this video. But hey, you be you!
There is a screw on the carb. As I said before you have adjusted full speed - not idle which is the lowest.

First tool mentioned is 10mm socket. Trust me, they don't exist!
good one
Wish people would just get to the meat and talk a bit faster in these videos. I got a lawn mower to fix and no time.
