    I hope I meet the criteria’s that you speak of. I really want to be character artist so bad to the point that I’m willing to spend whole days on developing the skill. But you are absolutely right about communication and ego. I think the reason why that comes is because the job is hard. I’ll do my best to become a great character artist. But I know for certain that I have to study lots of anatomy of faces, bodies, animals. The first step is anatomy for me then sculpting in ZBrush better (a whole lot of better and doing thousands of sculpts and characters) then learning the anatomy of clothing and building clothes. I think it’s also important to have fun along the journey. The process is different for everyone.

      @@Megatronacsbb great question. no age doesn't matter. I think you should be over 18 years old and legally if you are over 18 studios can not use age to decline or hire an employee. this is what I know but Since hit is a legal thing attorneys know more about this for sure and I can't advise legal stuff. As an inhouse character artist, you're more likely to become a 'managing' type, building up pipelines, documentation and prepping for outsourcing studios. If you're lucky you get to do some key art and visual target work. Ofc this can vary depending on studio culture, size etc., but it most likely is gonna be like that. Also it's gonna be interesting to observe how future AI generated 3d art (yes, even characters) over the 10 years or so is gonna fit in. Because it will. Besides that, just be happy and doodle away in your free time :)

    Only advice i would give is this: Let the "like the channel and subscribe for the end or the middle". I want to see first what you have to offer before i sub. Having said that, i did sub because your channel is looking good. Just a simple advice and my personal opinion :)
    Great work, keep going!

      Hey Jan, glad you liked it. Thanks for the feedback and I will adjust for the next videos. hopefully I can bring value and give something back to people and the society. Thanks for caring and taking the time to share your advice. I agree and appreciate it. Also if you have any topics that you want to hear would be good to hear your thoughts. Cheers.

    great video! are there any major differences between doing 2d and 3d character art besides the skill set needed for 2d vs 3d?

    • @EdgeloopAcademy
      @EdgeloopAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Major difference is 2d does concepts and 3D artists make the final asset. These days some concept artists do some 3d work as well like concept sculpt and then paint over it in 2D.

      You don’t have to draw but it helps to improve your artistic skillset.

    Hello, thanks for this video! I have a few questions
    Isn't a character artist and 3D artist 2 different job positions?
    Can you be a 2D character artist only or do you have to be a 3D character artist to work in the industry?
    Thanks in advance, coming from someone who specializes in 2D art and is interested in being a character artist for games & movies

    • @EdgeloopAcademy
      @EdgeloopAcademy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes and yes. you can just do 2d concepts or 3d art to join the industry.

    So I know Maya and zbrush are the go to and industry standard. But could someone get an entry level job at a smaller studio starting off using a mix of zbrush for sculpting, blender for modeling, and substance painter?
    Basically start off using blender and learn Maya along the way? Also, how would someone be able to even tell if someone used blender fir some parts of the character instead of Maya?
    Thanks in advance!

  • @z3d402
    @z3d402 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would you say that not using Maya and using a hard-surface software such as Blender decrease your chance of being hired as a freelancer working on game-ready clothing assets?

    • @EdgeloopAcademy
      @EdgeloopAcademy  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I saw this comment late. Software doesn’t matter as long as you do the job. Final output software in every studio that I worked for was maya but you can use anything to do the work.

      What makes you happy? Which one do you enjoy more? Which one makes you forget about everything and just have fun while learning or working? Which one do you think you understand better or connect with better? You can answer these questions and then pick the one that fits these questions and answers.

    What is a good starting point for people who want to start learning anatomy?

    • @EdgeloopAcademy
      @EdgeloopAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just start sculpting body parts and analyse everything bit by bit! Don't rush it and don't to become the best fast! just slowly and patiently study and check the muscle names and their function. you will be surprized how far you can go in a few years! remember when you practice, you will not see your progress! It will take months or years before you can really understand how much you improved.

      have you tried to reach out to Autodesk or Pixologic to ask them if they can give you a free copy for learning? sometimes they do that ! also check out 3d coat. the trial version is free forever which could help you start. Blender is also not bad to start but you definitely need to learn ZBrush.
