What i also loved with this is how these two ladies strongly supported each other and had nothing but love for one another. You should check kaahe chhed mohe from the same movie. It's a masterpiece where madhuri displays her legendary kathak prowess while wearing an outfit that weighs 30 kgs! (kathak is a classical dance form that she specializes in. Aishwarya is trained in bharatanatyam).
Aishwarya was the right choice of actress - especially in terms of dance. Many actresses did not want to dance with Madhuri because she is such a powerful dancer (and actress). Aishwarya is also a classically trained dancer and she has this quality where she comes alive when she dances. I personally feel that Aishwarya is a better dancer than she is an actress. And the chemistry between Madhuri and Aishwarya stems from their shared love of dance. They compliment each other in so many ways, and you can see their respect for one another through the dance. Each of them have their own moments, and then they come back in unison. It's just beautiful. This could've been a dance-off situation, which I'm so glad that it wasn't. Instead you've got two incredibly talented and beautiful women who are phenomenal dancers in their respective styles coming together to enjoy dance. This is a rare, magical and once in a lifetime cinematic experience.

Don't disagree, but Madhuri is the epedimy of natural born beauty and talent. I would pick Madhuri any day over Aishwarya. She's in the same class as vijanti and some of the other great old Indian actresses, but with a modern day twist. But hey, that's just my perspective.

So,this song Dola Re Dola is considered the best musical number in Indian cinema,of all times.The amazing choreographer of this song,the legendary Mrs.Saroj Khan,died recently at 71. In the novel, Paro and Chandramukhi's characters don't meet but in the movie Bhansali took creative license and had both of them meet and dance together. Both are in love with Devdas and the song is about them singing of their love for him. One of the lines which Madhuri sings is "tum ho unki bahon ka phool main hu bas kadmo ki dhool" which means you r the flower of his arms and I am the dust of his feet. Madhuri's character Chandramukhi knows that Devdas loves Paro.... The choreoography is by Saroj Khan who should get maximum credit for this superb song.

Their friendship started when Paro went to look for Devdass at Chandramukhi's house. When Paro cursed her, Chandramukhi only remark no wonder Devdass cannot forget her. because of Paro's beauty. She said that Devdass had left, but Paro did not believe her. She went in only to find only a shrine where Chandramukhi worship Devdass. Chandramukhi told her that since he did not love her she can only worship him. With that Paro told her that she did not mind loosing him to her if she take care of him. Not only did she took the soil from her ground but invite her for the festival at her house. During the dance, the villainous man noticed Chandramukhi who had jilted for Devdass, After the dance, he decided to humiliate both her and his sister in law, by revealing her identity. Paro interjected that it was man like him who had sullied women and condemned them to live in shame.

The people singing are playback singers. Madhuri does sing in real life but I don't think it's to the level of this playback singer. She's definitely primarily a dancer and actoress before being a singer. Most of the singing you hear in Bollywood music is from playback singers and the actors are lipsynching. You have your odd actor who sings but even they are usually singing to playback singers because the singers of Bollywood are so incredibly talented, most actors can't really sing as well.

You can perhaps watch this film too. It is full of great songs and dances and sets etc. The acting is a bit iffy on the part of ShahRukh and Aishwarya though. Both of them overact. She started working ,collecting secretly from her parents money for her project.And when she was done she just told her parents she goes to Mumbai to become a Bollywood star ;) They said-with what money?And she told them what she did.Then she went to India,learned Hindi and English,start taking dance and acting classes,and at certain point was even noticed(she is a gorgeous woman herself) by the ex-boyfriend of Aishwarya,even ,the bad boy of Bollywood himself,Salman Khan and got promoted in his show Big Boss...Now she is one of the second class,rising stars,quite big already.Her name is Elli Avram.
So Devdas was labour of love of the genius director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the whole team,who were obsessed with the project.It was the most expensive Indian movie at that point and it became a hit of international scale,especially after the promotion on the Cannes Festival 2002,what became total furor for the Western public,who were mesmerised by this exotic,unknown to them cinematography,sets,music and actresses.Aishwarya and Indian cinema got green light on a grand scale.The rest is history...

Both are in love with Devdas and the song is about them singing of their love for him. One of the lines which Madhuri sings is "tum ho unki bahon ka phool main hu bas kadmo ki dhool" which means you r the flower of his arms and I am the dust of his feet. Madhuri's character Chandramukhi knows that Devdas loves Paro.... The choreoography is by Saroj Khan who should get maximum credit for this superb song.

The song and dance celebrate the love of the two ladies for the same man, but for others it was a celebration of a goddess which require the lady of the household to bring the soill from the house of prostitutes, as a gestures that she acknowledged the divine Feminine of those who are less fortunate than herself. Their friendship started when Paro went to look for Devdass at Chandramukhi's house. When Paro cursed her, Chandramukhi only remark no wonder Devdass cannot forget her. because of Paro's beauty. She said that Devdass had left, but Paro did not believe her. She went in only to find only a shrine where Chandramukhi worship Devdass. Chandramukhi told her that since he did not love her she can only worship him. With that Paro told her that she did not mind loosing him to her if she take care of him. Not only did she took the soil from her ground but invite her for the festival at her house. During the dance, the villainous man noticed Chandramukhi who had jilted for Devdass, After the dance, he decided to humiliate both her and his sister in law, by revealing her identity. Paro interjected that it was man like him who had sullied women and condemned them to live in shame.

The people singing are playback singers. Madhuri does sing in real life but I don't think it's to the level of this playback singer. She's definitely primarily a dancer and actoress before being a singer. Most of the singing you hear in Bollywood music is from playback singers and the actors are lipsynching. You have your odd actor who sings but even they are usually singing to playback singers because the singers of Bollywood are so incredibly talented, most actors can't really sing as well.
