Vyjayantimala is the greatest classical dancer bollywood has ever had At tje age of 82 she is still damcing on stage Even a book has been launched on her life n career
I like how the tune coveys a sense of anxiety and suspicion. The various types of drums you hear, Spanish guitar bits, Jewish Menorah, Chinese dragons its a multicultural soup that is delicious.
Vaijantimala is a marvelous dancer. She is consider one of the best dancers to ever grace the screen in India cinema. She was so good that background dancers were scared to dance behind her as it was difficult to match her. You should react to her song Neel Gagan Ki Chao Mein from the movie Amrapali.
@@krishnaupadhyay4285 you must react to all the songs of vyjayantimala from the film Amrapali 1966.........Neel gagan is one of them...... Please do it

This movie is special for us the Sikkimese people. It gives us a glimpse of us when we were at kingdom. Yes we have embraced Indian democracy but we love revisiting our monarchial past. Thanks for the review.
you are 1 of the few people who gets it - vyjayanthimala was in character, even her dance was improvised and has distinct style to the background dancers as her character is in turmoil state at this point of the movie, great observation!
The director of the movie was "Vijay Anand" the brother of the lead actor Dev Anand. The music director S D Burman belonged to North East India where this situation is set "Sikkim".
Vaijanti mala She our Dearrest loveing legent We are ver y proud of her ❤ She is Great Bharat Natyam dancer too like Great Sandhyaji of Navrang picture ❤
It is one of the most iconic thrillers of Indian cinema. The lyrics ( like most Indian movie songs) have a subtext herr about the tension in the plot ( upcoming jewel robbery in palace and whether Dev Anand is the jewel thief or not). I would compare it to classic hitchcokian robbery films. Director Vijay Anand was very Indian auteur of uraban thrillers.
These modern day acrobatic artists who dare to call themselves dancers, can’t match up to the brilliance of Madam Vyjanthimala by even an inch. That’s pure dancing that she did in this song, and man those moves, they can never be replicated by these modern dancers. And the fact that ma’am showed us the versatility of her range as a performer in just seven minutes speaks volumes of her artistry, that right there was Bollywood at its best. And I have to agree with the guy who made this reaction video - Vyjanthimala Ji danced in this song like as if her life depended on it.
Wonderful song... Did anyone notice that this whole song was picturised in a single take!! At time of this movie, Sikkim was an other country under some dynasty, not part of India. it became part of India in 1975.
This classic movie was directed by hero devanands younger brother, Vijay anand and is the only song in hindi film industry which was PICTURISED in one go with 6 cameras. No way a small achievement. When you consider the fact that today's advnced technology was not available then still they could achieve this fantastic results tell you about the talent of actors, director, cameraman, choreographer and technicians of that era.
Wow I forgot how fantastic this song was and how much I used to enjoy it. Thank you for reminding me how beautiful it is. She is truly incredible!!! This makes me want to watch the movie again! I haven’t watched an old one in ages.
One of the most amazing parts of this song is the long shots of Vyjayantimala dancing. Because she is a trained classical dancer, she was able to pull it off beautifully.

The actor Dev Anand in the song who is playing the drum was often compared to Greg Peck. He is also probably the director of this movie. All his movies had lovely actresses like Hema Malini, Waheeda Rehman, Vyjantimala showcasinn their acting and dancing skills! Watch Hema Malini’s dance in the song ‘Oh Babul Pyaare’ and Wahida Rehman’s in ‘Mose Chal kiye jayee’. Both these songs are from Dev Anand’s movies ‘Johny mera naam’ and ‘Guide’. The song you are watching here is from his movie ‘Jewel thief’ x

When I was growing up in 90s .. while enjoying the grandeur of Indian movie industry from its black & white era to the contemporary style .. I took it for granted that every other country must be making similarly good films. But I realized in my late teenage that it wasn't so. Just a handful of countries produced good movies and those too had almost similar style of story-telling. Indian story telling traditions of many millennia have truly enriched the way Indians look at cinema as a concept.
Very few times in Indian film industry that film making matched the prowess of Indian music. Few directors who did were Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor, Vijay Anand and Manoj Kumar.
Vyjayanthimala was a trained classical dancer in Bharatanatyam. All the actresses from the past - 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s - were all required to have some form of classical dance training. There were some actresses such as Sridevi who started her career at the age of 4, was not a trained dancer and learned dance on-set, but she was phenomenal. You can see influences of the yester-year actresses in Madhuri Dixit, Meenakshi, Juhi Chawla, Rani Mukherjee and Aishwarya Rai, all of whom are classically trained dancers and phenomenal in their own right. Today you will find that whilst most actresses can dance, they're not classically trained, and this style of dance is disappearing and being replaced by modern and contemporary dance styles. You don't often hear music like this anymore either. So watching something like this is a treat. I truly miss Indian cultural arts, dance and music in Indian films today. The quality of production has improved significantly and there are some brilliantly talented actors and actresses, and I enjoy watching them, but at the same time, Indian cinema is most powerful when it combines drama, dance, music and visuals. It's the coming together of all those elements that make Indian cinema a cultural immersive experience.
This is actress Vaijayanti Mala. Now 90 years old. Next month 12:37 trying for her exhibition ( Portraits which I had made ). Last year I got 2 autographs on my portraits ( her portraits which I had done ).. the alltime greatest actress dancer.

BTW when the shooting was done Sikkim was an independent country. The churn of events and the jostling by communist China & Indian agents, the internal politics of the Chogyal dynasty & the king of Sikkim will make a supreme thriller story. In the end Sikkim joins Indian union as a state.🤣🙏
