Just loved this review on the MB45/45S twins! They seem to be more suited in a role as weekend warrior to play with, where a 35 engined small Mercedes would be a better daily drive? That is if you want a small performance Merc!
On another note, I am still missing a review from you on the A-Class sedan? If possible the A250. I know I am trying my luck here!
The cla shooting brake is the best option, more refinement in the front and better head room in the back it’s a win win. Business up front, party in the back

A great comprehensive review Brian. Nice. I think the new Merc dash design is really well thought out. In particular, the big display looks very clean, unique and modern.
Being a dad, I'd go for the C43 AMG wagon over this GLA. It doesn't scream to the police that I'm going fast.
By the way, Chicago has nothing on Toronto for traffic ;)

The beeping noise you were complaining about with the lane keep assist - it has nothing to do with lane keep. It's the collision warning system. It annoys me in my C Coupé as well, beeps every time you approach a small obstacle.
@@visionist7 Yes you can turn it off but only until the next ignition switch. Every time you switch the ignition on again, it's active by default. But you can program it in the ECU to be permanently off.
When you see the price point of this car and the interior quality I'm getting even more impressed. Of my 4 year old Mazda! ;)
the price is not for the interior, cause it's the same as for the A160, which costs way less than half the price. It's still an A-class, if you want more quality, you have to look at an E-class. And at this price point, you can have a well optioned E-class with a decent engine (power). But it depends on what you want.
Which version of the A45S is this? In the UK only the 421bhp 'Plus' version gets a leather seats (with metallic inserts) and interior? The wheels on this car belong to the 'non-Plus' version in the UK. There is a very limited build combination in the UK and this car you have reviewed seems to have a bit of both in terms of options, whereas in the UK this sort of granularity is just not possible. The 'Plus' version in the UK comes with a Panoramic roof regardless.
Would be interesting to compare the various 2 liter engines available in the A class. From the A220 to the A45S. If I count correctly, there is now 5 different outputs ranging from 140Kw to a staggering 310Kw! Maybe a test similar to your giant VW SUV comparison? Your take on the best bang for the buck would be great!

I really don't understand the fake exhausts, what is the reason for doing it on this type of car? The real exhausts are just behind it, why not make it proper?

I'm sure it sounds better in person, but I feel like it could do with an aftermarket exhaust or a backbox delete.... just to open up the exhaust a bit more, it feels a tad muted.

@@ahemgee9542 Indeed and the EU regs are only going to get worse. I'm sure companies like Brabus and Renntech will offer nice exhaust upgrades.
@@DanielSadjadian it's actually only partly down to the exhaust . The EGF takes some fizz out, but the pops and bangs from the ECU injecting extra fuel on the exhaust cycle, have been removed, so it's different mapping as well. Again not AMGs choice, due to regulations .
@Antonio Zamudio then AMG is clearly not for you. The great engine & exhaust noise is part of the experience. Just like a Lambo or Ferrari. It gives character and enjoyment.
@@ahemgee9542 Yeah the new ECU maps reduce the pops/crackles. Although the new GT63S complies with the new regulations and it still pops/crackles to an extent which is pretty nice.
I can't help but not notice the disproportionate air intake on the front grill of CLA 45 S. One side has the radiator peeking, the other side is covered with plastic. God damn it, they couldn't either cover both or let the open radiator on both sides? It hurts my eyes. Otherwise decent inbetweener.

They look nice, sound amazing, and perform admirably. Such a shame though that they won't stay on the road long before seeing a shop.
A Dream it sounds pretty boring
I'm aware I might be alone with this, but I love the exterior of the CLA, but don't like the interior. The lacquer styling is something I really dislike, I just can't get myself to see anything positive about it.

Me and my friend we are about to buy cars, I originally wanted a C180/C200, but because he wants to buy an A45s I said I will buy a CLA45s... it's just more cool like that

you really buy a car for that reason? What an absolute joke lol. Makes you sound like a little kid tbh. Besides there are options to make them louder, cause it certainly pops and bangs, but thanks to EU regulations and those extra filters, the sound is more muffled
My mk4 golf could fit a 2.5L 5 cylinder and even up to a 3.6L VR6 so there is always room in small cars for big powerful engines 😉😉😉
@xellossaxon who the f*** are you calling a knucklehead LoL. The cooling systems for these cars are quite adaptableyou're kidding yourself if you think there aren't plenty of tuners out there that are just as capable of getting a car to run optimum outside of the factory walls
Wheels - MISSED A BIT - where are the wheel nuts - are there covers over them? Or, are these centre-lock (porsche style) wheel fixture? THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!

@xellossaxon Muppett - if you know how centre-lock systems work then you'll know why it IS important. I suggest, if you've ever done it, to find out how difficult it is to change a Porsche centre-lock wheel if you have a puncture and if they operate in a similar way then you'd appreciate the problem!!
Oh! Of course, it's on all Porsche cars as they are so,so,good....NOT. The issue here dumb-nuts is that centre-locking wheels is a specialist thing which your little, if not ignorant brain doesn't comprehend. For the average person, this can and is an issue. There are very, very few breakdown companies that can deal with this ONSITE and clearly you live NOT in the UK but possibly cloud cuckoo-land. I suggest you do your research; but no doubt you'll have an answer that relates to to 'angel' arrangement with Allah or you have a truck that follows you everywhere just in case you sneeze or have a puncture. Get real and take the comments made with the principle in mind that centre locking wheels are a huge inconvenience for the AVERAGE sensible person of which I'm not sure which applies to you. Now go and hassle someone else who possibly has ginger coloured hair that affects your bio-rhythms

I was thinking the same. While it sounds nice to say "Most power per liter", this is probably not a car anyone wants to own after warranty expired.
The engine is pushed to it's absolute limits, it won't last long.
99% likelihood of being taken to the shop.
That engine is going to be awesome in the Lotus;)
How does switching to sport change the "braking profile"?
The electronics can tweak an inside rear brake to aid turn-in. The systems are configurable to a huge extent so I would imagine that front/rear bias and pedal sensitivity can also be adjusted to suit road or track work.
I think its worth the price given the quality and features

I love this facelift of the AMG version of the A class especially in this spec with the Designó mountain grey Magno, even without the AMG aero pack it looks damn good also love the grille it adds so much aggression, class and heritage to the AMG name, to bad we don’t get the AMG version of the A class in the US 😤😫. I really like the interior spec as well and the layout if I could get one I wouldn’t mind this spec 🤓. The Sun yellow paint is also a nice color with the dynamica interior material.

True, I was waiting for this from Merc but not such a big change. The last a45 was underpowered and beaten easily with rs3. 420HP form 2.0l is massive, this is a heavily tuned engine, with 3y warranty I assume.

and I have no idea why people in the USA can't get it through their thick skulls,that a hatchback or wagon design is way more practical than any sedan could ever be even with a lift back style. And then they go and buy these crossovers that basically have a hatchback.

Yep, the climate control unit feels a bit flimsy but that's because they expect you to ask Mercedes to do it for you avoiding distractions while driving. My choice? The CLA45s SB as I already own a beautiful new A-Class.
To be honest - just turning a knob is less distracting than interacting with a slow dumb voice control.
The exhausts coves are horrible.

Sounds like dog shit, the EU killed AMG. No point in spending USD 60k on this variant now. The power increase on its own hardly warrants the premium over lower trims or a base model C Class. The added handling benefits are not exploitable outside of the track, and no one looking for a car that'll be frequently tracked should consider this.

Damn, car looks amazing from the outside and the performence is... well AMG, but the interior, the dashboard specifically looks so wrong.
It looks cheap and effortlessly thrown in there.
Markosz the interior looks anything but cheap! Yeah it might not be to everybody’s taste, but with the HD screens, ambient lightning, lovely materials, it definitely does not feel cheap!

Not when cargo room is a concern! But I live in the USA where people don't understand hatchbacks, yet they buy all these crossovers with hatches 🙄 so we only get the A-class sedan and CLA no hatch or wagon.
