As a Saints fan I always thought about that. But who's to say Saban would still win games even with Brees
It’s true that the QB position is the one position that absolutely had to be right. But I also think that Saban didn’t think highly of Brees so he blamed the doctor. IMO he wanted a big strapping QB so Culpepper eventually fit Johnny Bravo’s costume. 😀 But I also believe that Tua is proof that Saban learned to consider shorter QBs. 😀

They were worried about Brees' shoulder problems. Now Brees can no longer throw,with his right arm; Miami's medical staff was right anout the long-term concerns but didnt realize how much more mileage Brees had on him after surgery.
Saban is and probably will forever be the greatest coach to ever touch the game. NFL or college, his stint at Alabama speaks for itself. Simply bewilderingly good.
It's a different ball game when you gotta work with a salary cap. Imagine the NFC and AFC best players come together and then face the league. That's what happens at Alabama

I respect Saban for telling the Truth about why he left Miami for Alabama, most coaches and players will give you the bs story while Saban told us what we thought it was when Miami after a 9-7 05 campaign all they needed was a QB to make them plays and they had a chance to get Drew Brees BUT the Dr of Miami went to Saban and GM and told them NOT to get Brees even though Brees had the arm surgery there was an interview in 2014 when Saban said he still wanted Brees because he had the strong arm and when he still wanted to to make the call for Brees Miami quickly went for Culpeper and Nick was pissed off about it then Culpeper got hurt Miami had no backup talent and the team felt to 6-10 and he said it here on this show he felt he had no control of the position he needed to fill to make Miami successful here we are in 2021 Tua might be the answer to Miami prayers but Saints went on to win a Superbowl with Brees and Nick Saban knew he was going to fail in Miami cause of management he went to Tuscaloosa and now he's the GOAT of College Football Coaching

Nick Saban has done alright for himself. Will probably go down as one of the greatest coaches in College Football history, which is pretty high accolades when you think of the long history of College Football. The short and long of it was, he had bad management in Miami, and Money talks. Plain and simple.... Say what you will about him leaving the organization and the way it was handled, at least he had the consideration to stay the entire season before leaving. Unlike Bobby Petrino who left the University of Louisville, after turning that program around, jumped to the NFL and then bailed on the Falcons after only 8 games, to take the University of Arkansas head coaching job. I felt bad for those guys! An entire season down the drain!
So management cost the Dolphins by not signing Drew Brees
Not just brees what it seems like is miami did not give saban the keys to the organization. Miami prob told saban that this is how far your choices will go and alabama probably told saban you come here and you run the entire show of football. Cant blame saban for Miamis stupidity
@@jonisafreak3 that is exactly what happened. Nick was right his last year in Miami he had a carousel of QB but not a stable/ elite quarterback. He felt that Brees was his best shot but Miami did not want to pay. This was the final nail on the coffin for Saban.
Actually Saban had complete roster control. The doctor who performed the surgery on Brees told Saban that Brees would be fine when he recovered. But when the Miami dolphins doctors evaluated Brees they urged Saban not to take Brees. Saban made the decision to take Culpeper over Brees and he was wrong for doing so but Brees was the QB he wanted, he just took the bad advice of the team doctors.

So it's true then, Saban went to Alabama because The Dolphins sign Culpeper instead of Drew Brees, wow what could have been?, Brady, Manning, Brees, Rivers, Roethlisberger in the same conference and Brady VS Brees twice a year
It's easy to say that the Dolphins should had signed Brees in hindsight.
But sometimes a player being on a certain team and around certain coaches can unlock there true potential.
Yes Drew Brees was a pretty good QB on the chargers. But he wasn't the same Drew Brees as he was on the Saints. It's a possibility that that was the perfect situation for Brees to be at the Right Place Right Time, Perfect System for his Talents , Right Coaches , Right Atmosphere. I'm pretty sure there are many cases right now today where if one player was drafted or signed to another team they would become a star player.
But sadly that player got drafted or signed to the wrong team and he never truly developed into the star player he was supposed to be. If he was on the correct team to truly bring out his talents. We can use Darren Waller for example how he was cut by the ravens due to his personal stuff and went to the Raiders and that was probably the right situation for Waller to clean up and deal with his personal problems and now suddenly hes a Star player in today's game.
There is no true garentee that Drew Brees would had turned out to be the Drew Brees of today. Seab Payton is hell of a coach, and I'm a Bucs fan I hate the Saints.
But I will give credit Payton typically has his team well coached. But I don't think the dolphins at that time had the right coaches for Brees va the Saints in 2006
But again yes in hindsight it looks like the dolphins missed out on Drew Brees. But we truly don't know if it was the right circumstances for Brees and if Brees was meant to be a Saint all along it.

@@JDBass36 True. Look at Brett Favre. He was the 3rd string qb with the Falcons and was put down by the coaches saying they wouldn’t put him in.
Once he was in GB he figured that was possibly his last shot. He cleaned himself up and threw every shot with 100% effort like it was a home run to earn a spot.
Sometimes it can be the right place with the right people. Who knows with Brees at Miami.

I was in Miami during the week where rumors of Saben leaving the Dolphins to go to Alabama. Saben kept denying and denying that he’s leaving Miami. When Saben bolted to Alabama I read the Miami sports writers just ripping him a big one.
Yeah, I guess that's the part that makes me think that as well liked as this guy was or is, the lie constantly told is always a hard one to forget. Not saying there's a person that doesn't tell a lie, but to keep saying the same lie...best for the Miami Dolphin fans to remember its just a game. They don't need the game to live a full filling life.

My god, had the 2006 AFC East had Tom Brady & a young Drew Brees- The Jets & Bills wouldn't have won the division for 20 years
The bills never won the afc east in the realignment 4 team format ever. It changed to dolphins bills jets pats in 2001 and last year was the first time the bills ever won the division. I don’t think the jets have ever won it. And the dolphins only won it once the year Brady injured his knee

Being a Dolphins fan is unlike anything else man in constant pain. Years of false sense of optimism, Brees not going to Miami was really the kicker for Saban leaving. I just hope one day I can see this team play good because not going to lie times are really rough rn starting to just lose interest in the NFL (Love Miami Hurricanes too)

Dude did a lot of dumb stuff down here in Miami. Example: the Fins normally start the season with a series of wins because the team’s trained in Miami in the summer time. And no visiting team is used to that. So Shula had them outside all summer. Saban, however, built an indoor facility, air-conditioned, because he didn’t like summer rain showers interrupting his schedule. Then the season opened and the Fins were just as hobbled by the weather as the visitors. Even stupider than Minnesota building a domed stadium, when the cold was their biggest ally.

The quitting was a big deal, showed his backbone in quite a negative light. Yes, it ended up being the perfect decision, it still showed a side of him that doesn't jibe with his coaching career. It's still there.
Some coaches just aren’t cut out for the NFL. Saban was one of those coaches.

I remember that i from Miami. it was basically Daunte or Brees but i know why saban would choose Culpepper over brees. they both had different injuries and to be honest brees wasn’t a house hold name in the league at the time as he’s seen today! Daunte Culpepper was a more established QB

Wrong. Saban wanted Culpepper. A big reason Saban came to Miami in the first place was because Huizenga promised him complete control over the team: coaching staff, player personnel decisions, everything. Saban's exact words at the time were "We're going with the big guy!" Management had absolutely no input into that decision. Saban made the wrong call and years later tried to put the blame on the team doctors instead of owning up to his own blunder. And by the way: had Jimmy Johnson stayed at Miami for 17 years HE probably would be named the college football GOAT. He also won in 2 Superbowls in the NFL. To me true GOAT's can adapt to and ultimately thrive in any situations. Pete Carroll is another like that. Easy to win at Alabama when your recruiting skills can get you the best players year in and year out. Not like that in the NFL where the playing field is more level and you need to handle players differently. He couldn't even figure that out; consistently using that bullshit rah-rah college approach with grown men. Plus his background is defence whereas Sean Payton's was offense. He likely would not have done as well in Miami as he did in New Orleans.

This is a very small brained take. You can have all the talent in the world but if you dont know how to handle personalities, how to communicate with players, how to put each player in the best position to succeed, or how to install a winning culture among a a bunch of other responsibilities, your’re not going to have a good program. He also spends 35+ hours a week watching film alone (not including practices and players meetings) and creating a game plan which differs every week and has to be unique to that week because every coach does the same thing. By your logic, Bill Belichek, Mike Krzyzewski, Gregg Poppavich, Vince lombardi, and a whole bunch of other coaches arent “such a good coach”. Really really dumb comment lol. Hope this helps.

This whole EXCUSE about Drew Brees is just a SMOKE SCREEN EXCUSE. In 2006 Drew Brees had just come off Rotator Cuff surgery after losing his starting QB job in San Diego in 2005. NO ONE ...Let me Re-peat NO ONE had any IDEA Drew Brees would become the NFL All-Time leading passer 14 years later. It is EASY to use that excuse 15 years later. The SAINTS took a GAMBLE and it turned out to be a gamble that paid off 3 years later with a Superbowl Win & a Great Coach in Sean Peyton the former Offensive Coordinator under Bill Parcells with the Dallas Cowboys ! ALABAMA made Nick Saban an offer FINANCIALLY that he simply couldn't refuse after repeatedly denying the rumors. Everyone in life denies their lies until someone throws ENOUGH $$$$ in your face to make you change your mind. It was ALABAMA & he was going to be the HIGHEST PAID Coach in College History. What Coach would turn down that offer ??? NONE !!! It's that simple.... Right Program, Right Time, Right Coach & The Right amount of Money !!! It was a PRIVATE JET he flew into Tuscaloosa, Alabama mind you. They weren't playing around to sign him.
