    This year is the GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY of Perfection.
    50 years.
    My Lord, where does the time go?
    Of all of the America's Games documentaries, the fact that the 72 Dolphins is the only one that ends with the final tableau of the team picture is just.........

    I have been to many Dolphin games over the years but I only went to one with my dad and that game was in November of 1972, deep into the season the Dolphins had lots of injuries on both sides of the ball, many starters out, backups played at Q.B., Larry Csonka did not play much, running for only 39 yards, Paul Warfield was out. You take away the three biggest stars on a team at the most important positions, at quarterback, running back and receiver, with some rookies in their place, you can expect a down day, especially since they had lot's of others out that day as well. That perfect team was so good that year, they had the #1 offense and the #1 defense but also were #1 in many other categories, too many to list here. Well, that day I was able to enjoy sitting in the Orange Bowl, watching perfection indeed. I was 15 and watched the best team ever.
    They won that day 52-0.

    Idc what anyone says, THIS is the GREATEST TEAM IN NFL HISTORY. Idc about how the athletes got better as time went along, this team BEAT EVERYBODY. No matter how hard a game was (whether they blew em out or had to make a 4th quarter comeback like the AFC Championship vs Pittsburgh that year), they ALWAYS made the play. They have a ZERO (0) in their record. Even with how dominant the 85 Bears/84 and 89 49ers and the 92 Cowboys (I think 3 of the top 5 teams all time) were, they all LOST to someone. This team DIDN'T. They made the play(s) EVERY TIME they needed to. It's almost unfathomable. The 72 Dolphins deserve to be grandfathered into the 1 spot permanently as the GREATEST TEAM OF ALL-TIME

    Still, the most treasured story in all of the 150+ years of American football. The 1972 Miami Dolphins have to be in the conversation among the greatest feats of all of sports (i.e. the 1932 Babe Ruth's "Called Shot"; the 1980 "Miracle on Ice"; the 1951 MLB "Shot Heard Round the World" (Giants-Dodgers); Nadia Comeneci's first "perfect 10"'s in the 1976 Olympics; Michael Phelps' 2008 8 gold medals in swimming; UCLA's "88-straight" game win streak NCAA Men's Basketball 1972-74; Buster Douglas' upset of undefeated Mike Tyson in 1991.)

      He definitely was MVP of that game, with all those unassisted tackles, and handling Larry Brown. Its always annoyed me, that the QB seems to get the award in so many SB games, where a D lineman or two has great games. SB 42 was another example, Giants/Pats. They gave it to Eli, but actually Giants D lineman Strahan and Tuck deserved to be co-mvp's. Fernandez should be considered for H.O. F.

    In spite of protests to the contrary, you must put these Dolphins #1. They were perfect for an entire season. It doesn't matter what might have been, the fact is THEY did it. Only the Patriots have come close and lost to the Giants in the SB. Whatever may have happened, Miami is still the only NFL team with that perfect season.

      and you truly think that Bob Griese belongs in the HOF? He did absolutely nothing in that superbowl and dont give me any bs about that "perfect season" because he maybe started four games that year...Errol Morrell was the qb....If anyone should not be in the hall, its griese

    • @mrcnub
      @mrcnub ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Ezra Styles Yes, absolutely. Griese was selected first team All-Pro twice and for the Pro Bowl six times. He was top 10 in the league in passing efficiency every year from 1970-1978 including 1st in 1977. His stats don't look like anything special today, but for a solid decade he was one of the better QBs in the league.

    • @user-kx3fx4eo9i
      @user-kx3fx4eo9i ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrcnub Maybe you were watching different games than I was. He did absolutely nothing in both those super bowl wins. In the undefeated season he started only four games, but some how gets credit for that season. You can say what ever you want, but the fact of the matter is , he does not belong in the HOF.

    • @mrcnub
      @mrcnub ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Ezra Styles I never said that he did anything in the Super Bowl wins. You're right, he didn't.
      I said he was one of the best QBs of the 1970s, which he was. Stack his numbers up against the other HOF QBs of that era (Staubach, Stabler, Tarkenton, Bradshaw, Namath, etc) and Griese's are as good as or clearly better than some of them. So if you think Griese shouldn't be in the HOF, you better be campaigning for Stabler and Namath to be taken out too.

      I'm not sure they were the greatest. Yes doing what no team has done was a remarkable feat. But they had a ridiculously easy schedule for a Super Bowl runner up that has never been repeated. Some even say the '73 Dolphins were better but played a much tougher schedule. But even so, perfection is hard to argue with. The 2007 Patriots won more games actually, 18 in all but lost the last one. Just things to consider. They were without a doubt top five.

Their main quarterback was out for most of the season, replaced by a 38 year old quarterback; though undefeated, they had to travel to Pittsburgh for the AFC championship game; their ability to play smartly. From 1970-74, the NFL did all it could to prevent a team from having two home playoff games, but it didn’t always work. Miami had to be ecstatic that Dallas didn’t make it to the SB. They wouldn’t have gotten revenge, Doomsday would have crushed them AGAIN (at least that’s what I thought until Miami beat Pittsburgh, something Dallas just couldn’t do in the Postseason). But even though Dallas was my favorite team, I grew up in FL so Miami was my second favorite team. So I was happy they won.

      Yes they would’ve, keep in mind that Morris did not play in Super Bowl VI and he was a big reason for their offensive success. The cowboys defense would not have been able to stop that backfield. And not to mention, the Dolphins D would’ve tore through them. Lastly, it’s important to remember that they would’ve been playing a team with revenge on their minds from last year. That loss physically and mentally drove them to getting back. (Similar to Dallas after they lost Super Bowl V). So no, Dallas nor any other team was beating Miami that year. They had their goals set before they 1972 season even started. It would’ve been a close game like 21-17 or 23-20 but Miami was a complete and more prepared team heading into Super Bowl VII and they weren’t gonna lose for a second consecutive year…

    Earl Morrall should be in the HOF. 15 wins 1 loss in 1968 as a back up to Johnny U., 11 wins no losses in 72 as a back up to Bob Griese and an overall W-L as a starter from 1968 on of 44-6-1.

    Actually there was one other team that went undefeated with no ties. The 1948 Cleveland Browns. Granted there was no super bowl then but the crushed Buffalo in the championship. They finished the year a even 15-0. The 48 Browns and 72 Dolphins remain at the top of NFL’s greatest.

    The Dolphins were credible underdogs in the SB because they barely won their playoff games, trailing both before pulling them out. Their defense gave up 31 points, while the Redskins totally dominated Green Bay and Dallas, 42-6. Piling up an 8-0 record against the Colts, Pats, Jets and Bills was a good feat, but hardly dynastic.

    He could have killed somebody by not hydrating them properly. That is something that seems to have been popular various places, like for Texas A & M with Bear Bryant and the Vikings (who actually lost a player to heat stroke) and the early 60's chargers. Water is necessary, especially where it is hot and humid.
