  • We caught up with Kory Willis from PPEI and did a livestream answering listener questions! One question was, since the mainstream tuners don’t do deletes, where does the tuning come from? The answer will surprise you. We also talked about 10 speed Allison tuning, 6R140 harsh shifts and tons more!

    I would like to see a show with him going into what hes found about the mining side and emissions that goes into producing these components. Definitely a well informed guy in the subject. I can't imagine how frustrating it is to be fined and now trying to go through the right steps to get approved tunes and the system is so messed up and unreliable you can get things completed. There Definitely need to be some kind of compromise with the epa and tuning. There seems to be such a disconnect between the epa and reality with what's going on like he was talking about over seas tuning and people just not wanting or can't afford to replace the emissions systems.

    I got 3 questions for Corey specifically.
    When a manufacturer puts out a HP/TQ #, was that with full emissions compliant exhaust on the Dyno to get rates flywheel numbers? And if so, was the testing done with just new clean DPF systems every time and/or did they do some testing of output when the system is at 50-70-90% full loads as well? Has he ever done it and what were the number....does a half load increase velocity and gain....does nearly full load cut power output down a lot.....etc?

    I’d be cool if the EPA made a law that once a truck is X years old it doesn’t need to have emissions equipment anymore. The less the better for us consumers but a fair judgement would be 7 years or 100k miles. Since that is when the DPF is considered “aged”.

    If there were a venn diagram of diesel enthusiasts interviewed on this show and conspiracy theorists it would be a single circle.

      The word “conspiracy theorist” is a modern translation of “heretic” back in the dark ages.

      The difference between conspiracy theory and just plain conspiracy varies from weeks to couple years...depends on how long the propoganda machine can keep sheep dumbed down to the reality

    I really like using HPtuner's now lately. They added a shift on the fly feature i really like It has been kinda depressing since I first got it couple years ago. Seems like they were slowly taking away some of the tuning options and maps like for the egr maps, But being able to stop at a light then switch tune's by just using the cruise control buttons compared to breaking out the laptop everytime

      Unfortunately, politics are interjected into every truck on the lot, aftermarket parts, future of upgrades, and more. We appreciate Kory speaking his mind vs the watered down approach where the elephant in the room is ignored.

    Good video from a guest that clearly knows what he is talking about.
    Too bad the Chinese and Russians don't offer an inexpensive and better CP4 replacement on your beloved Ford 6.7. That problem is a $12k potential bonus above and beyond any emissions issues that come up.
    Ford as usual (6.0 and 6.4 diesels) has created wonderful business opportunities for the aftermarket. As an example SS Fueled now has a replacement for the CP4.2 on the 6.7 Powerstrokes. For those that say the CP4's are not that big of a deal why then would SS Fueled spend a boatload of money designing and producing this new high pressure fuel pump? Tell Ford owners that have had a CP4 failure that it is no big deal.

    • @williammorgan5987
      @williammorgan5987 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shit I never had an issue with the cp4.
      Had a turbo suck all the oil out of the engine, I think that truck had 2k miles
      Had one that if it rained would lose it’s body control module
      Had another than the 10 speed cooked itself to death
      All were 2019 and up

      @countcuda70 ปีที่แล้ว

      S&S diesel offeres the DCR pump conversion. It's a direct replacement and doesn't need tuning either

    • @bucketheadrox
      @bucketheadrox ปีที่แล้ว

      @williammorgan5987 the cp4 fails when you hit that bad batch of diesel. You never know whoa got it and hopefully you never see it regardless of what truck you run.

    Sounds like a little shade was tossed towards Canada tuning....... Is Kory Proven a point?

    • @TheDieselPodcast
      @TheDieselPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว

      We took it as as an example he was giving of tunes coming out of China, Russia and Germany and being sold through a middleman. Versus a slight on tuners in Canada as a whole.

    I have a 97 12v and would actually like to add a DOC (cat) to my truck just so it doesnt stink so bad. Finding one to fit a 5" exhaust is hard since most rely on the giant cylinders that mount in front of the dpf system. So now im playing the waiting game for someone to delete their truck and put their exhaust online for a steal so i dont have to pay $1000 just to de stink my truck lol

    • @mikz86ta1
      @mikz86ta1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only problem there guy, is the fact that you can't just dona DPF. You need an PCM that has the inputs for sensors and output for controls that will read the soot load and command a regeneration process. And to Regen is to either add an extra injector like the LML Dmax to dump fuel to light off the Regen process or do like others and dump fuel via the rest of the injectors to accomplish that. Then I still think you need a DOC and maybe a SCR which also requires DEF.
      Maybe adapt the first generation of exhaust emissions equipment would be the simplistic form, but likely still needs some supportive equipment and/or electronics to go along with it.
      I know OTR Diesels have cleanable DPF's. And the early emissions versions of those were simpler. That may be the best route overall.
      There's companies that do same-day DPF cleaning for the cleanable OTR truck systems. Some will do the welded shut systems our light duty trucks use but they cut them open and then reweld which is extra time and cost

    What Kory is doing is great for the industry, but the adaptive strategies have been figured out 10+ yrs ago by big name PS tuners.( php, gh, tsd, ID) They don't like to share tuning information unlike cummins and dmax guys. You don't know how nice a 6r can shift until you run a GH tune

  • @horaciolopez7721

    Have y’all looked into doing a 50/50 water/meth injection and tuning for that? From what I have seen people are reporting fewer regens and fewer time regenning. I have a 3.0 eco diesel wrangler and love it. About to but another for the wife.
