    Nissan went over the top with heaters on the Ariya. There’s the heat pump for the cabin + battery, a backup PTC electric resistance for the cabin (which gets notably warm within 30 seconds of start) and an additional PTC electric resistance heater on top of the battery pack.

    Looks like the Leaf was in fresh air mode and not recirculation which the ID3 would automatically switch between. So the Leaf had to constantly heat the air from -12 while the ID3 was mostly warming the recirculated cabin air.

    3:27 BMS reports different capacity depending on outside temperature. I've seen 48500 and 52500 winter/summer on my ID3. This one is also with software 2.3/2.4 as seen on the dash battery percentage is missing. It is present in 3.x onwards. Battery and inside heating is much improved with the new software.

    This was the issue with the id3 the battery pack will constantly draw up to 6kwh to warm the pack for over 30 mins every time you got in below 4c this ment shorter journeys it was drawing a large volume of electricity, killing range , it’s one thing that badly needs more work in the next update refresh with the different motors

      Keep in mind Bjørn had both cars set to 21c auto here, not max defrost mode. It's still a fair comparison i think, but selecting max defrost instead makes a huge difference. Also, I don't know about the ID3, but the Leaf sure is a "cold" winter car. I still freeze in it with a sweater on at 25c auto, while i'm comfy in a t-shirt in my model 3 set to 21c auto.
      I have a 2012 leaf with heatpump and in auto mode it simply takes ages to defrost, but if i manually set it to blow on the windows and turn up the fan and temp to max, it goes really really fast. Same as in my 2022 model 3. In auto mode it can take quite a long time to defrost, but if i select "max defrost" in the app it's usually ready to drive in ~5-7 minutes even when it's -15c outside.
      To compare with ICE, my old 2.2 Camry would just barely start to blow faint traces of warm air by the time the tesla was ready to drive and toasty inside.

    • @akaoveve
      @akaoveve 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JanErik1986 indeed, you may be right. My Toyota IC car will allow maximum amount of heat if there is a bigger gap between the desired temperature and the actual temperature. The "Hi" (or max heat) setting will allow heat, as soon as there is some. Instead, setting 21 degrees will allow my engine to heat a lot more before allowing heat in the cabin.

    In a normal heatpump, the compressor has a heating element to keep the oil at a certain temperature, otherwise it wouldn't last very long. I know on the Ioniq the compressor doesn't do anything for a minute or two, and I would bet it's because it heats up the compressor.

      They were at 21 degrees. I think when setting it to HI it would be faster in both cars.

      Around 4 minutes to get the interior from -30C to +20C according to this test in Canada: th-cam.com/video/lL9zveDz8H0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bFg9zHjmLlSMSOFq

    What? You lose your license when driving with snow on the cars windows?
    In Germany the fine for this is € 10 and for plates covered in snow € 5.
    Seems like Norway is a bit strickt about that.

      Generally you'd remote start them from inside using an app or key fob and they use power from the charge cable so you still leave with max range and a warm car. This was just an experiment to see what happens.

      Yeah he definitely didn't do this test right, putting it on max defroster would've cleared that much, much faster
