You are wonderful! I know you posted this video 4 1/2 years ago, but it made all the difference in being able to take off and then REINSTALL the oven door. I also managed to clean out the unsightly drips that had found their way in between the two pieces of glass. So know that you are still helping people! (And P.S. My door hinges definitely did NOT stay at a 45 degree angle!) Thank you!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Using a pipe for leverage to push the hinge to the open position was an absolute life saver. No service call necessary and cost $2.58 at Lowe's for two foot long, one inch diameter PVC pipe. Only took a few minutes to re-install the oven door. By the way, my wall oven is a Bosch oven and the method worked great!

Thanks so much for this video on getting door back in on my Whirlpool stove. It was simply a lifesaver after hours of trying!!! I used two AAA batteries to hold the leavers in place and it worked slick and quick!! Thank heavens for innovators like yourself. Thanks for your video, Mark. I took my door off to clean the windows in my 14 year old KitchenAid oven yesterday and couldn't get it back on. Very frustrating. Bought a pipe at Home Depot, put in a couple of screw bits and bingo, the door went in beautifully. Using the pipe as a lever was much easier than I expected. Thanks soooo much!

I just want to thank you for finally putting an end to our weekend long frustration with installing our whirlpool oven. The oven arrived mid-day Sat and we were unable to install due to connection issues in our island. So after a trip to Home Depot for some connections, we started the installation on Sunday. We got the oven in and connected and were left with putting the door back on. Seemed simple enough!! After my husband was boiling over with frustration, I read the directions and tried to help but to no avail. Customer Service was not available, so we just left the door off. My husband found this video today and upon arriving home was able to get the door on in 5 minutes!!!!! All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this video!!!

You just saved my sanity. I could not have done it with out your video. I stayed on the line with whirlpool 55 minutes and then she transferred me to someone else and I had to wait for another 40 minutes. I agree their instructions in their manual had a lot to be desired. The latches on my oven did the same thing as you described and thanks to your video I solved my problem also with no help from the whirlpool manual which is a joke and every clown in America is laughing.

This was hugely helpful, thought I’d broke my door for a minute lol. One addition though, once you lever the hinge into the open position, the locking device can be moved back to the unlocked position and the hinge will stay in place, so no need for the screwdriver bit. Thanks for posting, it helped a lot

Ok...what a learning curve this was for a little old lady. Got door off, but of course the brackets snapped back @ 90°s. After trial & error & calling my husband in from the middle of skinning a deer, we figured out if we pulled the locking clips all the way back into the opening on the door, they hold the mounting brackets @ 45°. Slipped door back on, opened the door all the way, flipped locking clips foreward in place & done...easy peasy. FYI, I'm keeping the pipe handy in the broom closet!

Thank You, the door to my kitchenaid superba oven is so heavy, hubs is 78 we tried 10 times to install. Your video to use screwdriver, and a pipe, was priceless, we used broken chopsticks, WOW it worked, easy. We would of never been able to install the door.

Mark, you saved me. Thank you for the KitchenAid door replacement instructions. You were absolutely right! Your process works!!! (The phone conversation reminded me of calls I have had with other tech support people.)
I have one suggestion for a possible process improvement: I did not have the proper size pipe so I used a 5/8" box end wrench instead of a pipe to rotate the hinge back to 45 degrees. It worked. The screwdriver bits worked great!

I can't thank you enough. I was trying to put the door back on after replacing the fuse (don't use the self-cleaning feature--it blows the fuse--I've replaced it twice). Your idea worked perfectly although it did take a lot of muscle--and I AM A LITTLE OLD LADY!! Thanks, again!

Thanks Mark. I found your video and handed my phone to my husband and son-who had run into the same roadblock of trying to install the door onto a brand new oven. You're so right -- the instructions say absolutely nothing about the closed latch that prevents us from sliding the door onto the hinges! We took your advice, so before using the pipe, we covered the surrounding area with masking tape to prevent scratching the finish.

I had the door in place, hanging there open, wrestling with it to push the "hinge prong thing" in its proper depth when I watched your video. all I had to do was put a couple of bit holders from my screw gun behind the hinges like you did with the "screw bit thing" and voila! OMG- Thanks soooo much! Took the door off to clean the oven for Passover and my poor hubby tried for over an hour yesterday to put it back on- we have a Schaub Lorenz (great oven, we live overseas). It has almost the identical latch. We ordered a technician to come and help us but it would take 2 days and I have to cook for the holidays! Your instructions - are precise and I am in your debt! Those little door locks that you pointed out are the HINGE OPEN LOCKS!!!
1) Open the door all the way
2) flip the hinge locks all the way out
3) gently close the door onto the hinge locks
4) lift door off oven
Those hinge locks take the place of the screwdriver bits.
Your video is awesome for how to recover hinges that have flipped to the closed position... It does take a TON of pressure to get them to open since you do not have the physical leverage of the oven and the weight of the door to help.
I did not have a chance to read through all the comments to see if someone else has given the solution - I’m in a panic trying to move my oven out before the kitchen remodel starts today!
This video did help because the Whirlpool instructions do suck, but I didn't have an adequate torque multiplier like your pipe.
I found that I could use the oven itself for that task though. I put the door in the upright position, and then opened the door (holding it in place because it *does* want to slip) until I could expose the hinge clips and flip them up. Then I could get the hinges on properly.

Mark thank you so much. I did not know how I was going to pull back the hinge and move the locking latch. I used a heavy torque wrench and hollow impact nut to pull down hinge and open locking latch. Door went back on fine.

Thanks Mark. Wish I would have watched your video before I broke my handle off my stove. Just by pulling the tabs back in the locking position does not work very well at all in putting the door back. Your way made it so easy.

Thanks a lot! You are a life saver! Our kitchenaid is about 5 years old and lots of dirt got inside the door. I finally decided to remove the door and disassemble to clean. What a F--KING nightmare to get it back on. To get the hinges back in the fully extended position required a 3/4 inch copper pipe. Nothing else worked and the pipe got destroyed. Don't know how those little ole ladies do it. Thanks for posting!

Hey Mark, your video was spot on. We had the same issue with the locks going into the 90 degree position and we used a pair of channel locks to open the hinge where you used a pipe. Either way, it got the hinge open again. Seeing you use the screw driver to hold the hinge in the open position was the key. Thanks!

I initially had the locking tabs all the way open which seemed to have the hinges at the correct angle but I could not insert the tabs into the oven slots. When I tried it your way, they dropped right in and I had the door installed in about ten seconds. Thanks again!!!

Awesome man! After watching your vid, pipe pliers worked to pry open the hinges and than I used screw tips for wedges like you did. One thing to add is the locking piece also need to be lifted up before you slide the hinges back in.

Thank you for getting me on the right track!! I didn't have a pipe so I used a screwdriver on it's side to push the hinge down and then seated the hinge lock lever into the door's hinge slot. Then I held the door at a 45 deg. angle while inserting it into the frame. I closed the door as far as it would go (it seemed set too high but I ignored this) then opened it all the way and flipped the hinge lock levers towards the oven and seated them in the slot. Voila!! The door shut perfectly after hours of frustrating effort.

OMG! If I had only watched your video BEFORE attempting to follow the kitchenaid instructions (if you want to call them that). I wasted so much time and energy, even had me sweating (I'm not sure if it was the labor part or me stressing that I was not going to get the door back on). OMG OMG OMG! Mark you are the BOMB! You saved me from buying a new oven as the outer glass is no longer available from Kitchen aid. I had to get a custom piece of outer glass made. The hinges were locked and your video was perfect! Thanks again!

For anyone watching this before improperly removing the door, the hinge lock also doubles as a hold open for the hinges. Just fully open the locks and they will engage the door preventing the hinges from fully folding. This gentlemen's problem was self inflicted because he misunderstood the directions.

Oh my gosh, Mark...thank you SOOO much. After using the self cleaning feature on the ovens and then hand cleaning the door interiors, i got baking soda in between the door glass and so we had to remove the doors to clean the interior. We were pulling our hair our trying to get the doors back on our double ovens. we spoke to Kitchenaid, no help there, and the local appliance repair company said they could do it for 180.00. NO WAY! my husband and i did it together, it took forever, but we saved the 180.00 and learned a ton of knowledge! thank you!!

WOW, thank you so much. I too spent over an hour fighting with a Whirlpool range door. My instruction book said to put the hinges into the openings and open the door. It shows the hinges at a 90 degree angle--does not work. You are a lifesaver!!! Dave S.

Thanks for making this video. I've got an Electrolux range and experienced the very same problem. I found that there are a couple of pins in the hinge receiver slot that the hinge tab must go between. I was wrestling with the door probably 20 times before I discovered this. You have to hold the door just right, not letting it rest on anything, in order to get the right insertion. What a B* Anyway, it was comforting that I'm not the only person that had this problem. Oh, yeah, too, that door is so heavy that there's no little old lady that I know who's going to do this.

Cleaning an oven is so much damn work to begin with.
Spending over and hour trying to reinstall the door while my family is at a football game is not what I planned to do withy free time.

Mark, Thank you! I was getting just a little frustrated trying to figure out those hinges. I knew the top of the male portion of the hinge (on the door) had to be under the pin that's inside the female portion (on the main oven side) but could not figure out how to get it to stay down far enough to get under it. Simple solution for a problem that should not exist. Thanks again dude.
