    Thanks for this video, I'm a techie sort of guy and happily repair most things but it's always good to have a video to follow!
    A couple of things to add to this very good video:
    To get the LCD/Digitiser out of the Wii U once the plastic hold down is removed, rather than prying, push on the screen from the other side, saves risking damage to the LCD.
    To separate the LCD and Digitiser I used my thumb nail, rather than a metal tool, and that way I was able to salvage 3 sides worth of the original adhesive strip. I didn't bother sticking the 4th side down as it was clearly not going anywhere.
    Cheers!

    i messed up so bad and still got it to work, don‘t be afraid to do this.
    i messed up the cable vor the volume slider while putting on the back plate, somehow ended up losing the slider itself, my lcd wasn‘t turning on (which i‘ve scratched a little while pulling of the old digitizer), and i managed to fix all of these problems.
    awesome tutorial, thank you so much!!

    Thanks for the vid, I followed your advice on that bezel part. To get the screen off I used one of those razors with the break off tips and heated the blade with a propped up Wagner heat gun set to medium heat. Any higher and the bezel wants to melt on you. I slid it an inch or two per reheat and went around twice. Came off clean. Repeated for the digitizer, the glue separated easily.

    Thanks very much Tim - fixed my kid's gamepad. However, the cheap digitizer I got from ebay wasn't equivalent to the original - slightly matte finish, not as glossy and more touch pressure required, difficult to drag objects. Might need to do it all again with a better quality one...

    I am working on my Wii U gamepad upgrade atm, I am putting a white shell on my gamepad with black buttons since I don’t like the glossiness of the black shell, and I’m going to be replacing the digitizer since I played loads of Mario Maker when I was younger resulting in a very scratched up digitizer. Something very strange I noticed about my original gamepad is some of the internals are different from most other tutorials Ive found, my speakers are soldered right to the board which means you have to desolder them to detach them, the other weird part is the grey plastic that normally is on the back of the screen is instead black and is molded to have the bottom part that has all the holes in it directly attached to the plastic frame. And I got this Wii U new back in the day, so I’m wondering if at some point Nintendo did some internal redesigning or if someone didn’t do their job right.

    Thanks for the video. It was really helpful.
    My son had told me that the screen wasn't working. I'm not too familiar with the Wii U, but I'm handy. I knew that the screen wasn't responsive in all areas. I got overly excited and ordered a digitizer on Amazon for $11. It didn't take me long to do the replacement (thanks to your video). The thingy that holds the digitizer ribbon cable in place broke, but I was able to hold the ribbon in place with some electrical tape (I'll monitor it in the future).
    Here's the thing. The Wii U didn't improve.
    Then I scrolled through the menu and found the calibration screen. I calibrated it. Now it works. D'oh!
    Yes, there's a good chance there was nothing wrong in the first place. Of course I did break the thingy (see thingy reference above). So I fixed something that was broken! That I broke. Yes, it was a waste of time on the surface, but it really was fun for me (glad it wasn't too expensive).
    So everybody that is reading this, do yourself a favor and scroll through the setup menu. When you've exhausted any option there, THEN consider taking this on.
    Also an easy way to line up the plastic frame is to place it in the hole, then put the digitizer/LCD assembly on top.

    I have a tiny little purpley type pea size if not smaller patch on the screen but only during complete black loading screens or when turing off and the screen turns black for a moment before completely off. I gather its an entire screen replacement and there's no fix. I mean it doesn't bother me right now so much as its actually on my unplayed Zelda limited edition set that's boxed and all in as new condition with everything that im saving, as I believe in the future this and other things like vga sealed zelda and mario games etc for the wii u, will sky rocket in selling prices, I was just curious but I kind of already know deep down ill have to send it off to have the screen replaced to get rid of that tiny issue on it.
    Great video, makes me a little more confident watching these but I'm still not there yet in regards to having the courage to change the screen myself, I did however thanks to videos just like this, change the antenna chip in my other wii u to renew the signal strength and distance I can move away with it before losing connection
    Thanks again, who knows, one day maybe ill attempt this lol

    Did you have any issue with your screen looking funny after doing this? I did it, and now my screen looks kind of hazy. Could that be some moisture got trapped in between? I did wipe the inside screen - very slightly, before replacing the digitizer. Also good tip on not pinching anything. I snapped a cable by not folding everything in carefully. Then I had to solder the cable together, which was successful - but a pain in the ass.

    Hey, I got a few questions about this repair. My gamepad screen is completely destroyed - it got rolled over while my family was moving houses years ago and the screen is now black and shattered. If I were to buy a new LCD and digitizer, how much different would this repair be since I also wanna repair the LCD? I assume I just stick it to the new LCD and replace both parts?

    I'm literally in the middle of this process.
    1. What is the name & brand of the two-sided tape you use?
    2. Will a type of precision-applied glue (similar to model glue) work? Or will it wreck the digitizer/LCD screen?
    I want to get this Gamepad back together and working properly, but I just keep getting stopped by "crap" moments, if you know what I mean.

    • @elitesportsmedia
      @elitesportsmedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tape brand is 3m but I’ve used generic as well they are very similar.... the only type of liquid adhesive I would use is b7000 you just have to be careful you don’t put to much a little goes a long way. Would stay away from all other glues. But if you do try it let me know how the model glue works for you I’ve just honestly never used that one but I’ve used many others not much luck has to stick to glass we’ll hope that helped and I didn’t just ramble

    • @NorthernWolf910
      @NorthernWolf910 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So far, so good on the craft glue I used. It's like superglue, so I only used 4 dabs near the four corners of the little plastic frame piece that holds the whole assembly in place. The other side of the digitizer was peel and stick to the LCD. I did not know that when I typed my comment, but I eventually mustered enough courage to try it. Thank you for the response, though, I really appreciate it.

      It holds, but I placed the plastic frame a little off center. With that said, the adhesive can be removed (once dry... 24 hours required) if you apply small dabs of it near, but not on, all four corners where the frame will sit. Like I said before, it takes a minimum of 24 hours to adhere... But I left it for about 3 days and I was still able to get it back apart if I had to, however, if you leave it alone, it won't move on you.
