    Good enough for me. Repair shop claimed $85 to fix my gamepad. Amazingly, that’s the same cost to buy a used one. I decided to buy the buttons I needed and the screwdriver to open my gamepad. I watched your video and replaced my buttons for a grand total of $10. All fixed. I can now enjoy playing again.

    Big ups on the video. This saved me some money and made my kids happy. For those who bought a screen with no digitizer, reuse your old one. Do this by using a hair dryer on low. You'll feel it start to give after 30 seconds or so. Be careful not to dirty up the strip because you'll end using what's on there to stick to your new screen.

    The tricky part not noted in the video with LCD replacement.
    Use clean vinyl gloves when handling a new screen. It will save grief from trying to clean. Remove the cling wrap at last moment.
    1. There is a bezel around the digitizer that you will need and have to remove from the broken screen. Run the razor around the outside after you remove it from the unit. It has adhesive and will be yucky.
    2. There is a spongy gasket cushion between the LCD and digitizer that likely wasn't included in your replacement. Reuse the old one from the damaged unit. Failures to do this will make the screen go weird with heavy touch pressure.

    A great run down; quick, to the point, not an annoying presentation.
    I have some information I'd like to add for anyone doing just the digitizer. The original is actually what feels like a hard plastic surface that is attached to the metal frame holder over the LCD, the replacement seems to be a glass. Looking at the LCD assembly from the side one can see this layer on top of the metal. You do not need to remove the LCD from the metal case, just use a plastic separating tool or guitar pic to pry away the double sided tape holding it in. As long as you keep on the metal rim and away from the LCD surface, you should be fine. Second, there is a black trim on top of the digitizer that is affixed the same way. If you don't get this piece it's not too bad but you'll see the metal frame when you reassemble it. There are other things to note like keeping the correct orientation but you'll know when you put it back if the cable is on the wrong side. Making sure you remove the protective film, mine had three. one on top, one on bottom and another protecting the sticky layer. I just want to stress that once you get the LCD assembly out, all you're doing is separating that layer. I spent another 30 minutes carefully removing it from the case for no reason.

    Several years ago, I cracked my gamepad screen and during repair, I broke the ribbon cable socket for the touchscreen (an absolutely tiny piece of plastic). Never got to finish Xenoblade Chronicles X! I spent hours upon hours trying to figure out a solution. I tried ordering a new gamepad motherboard and got scammed by an ebay seller that sent a broken one. Lately, I've been think about just ordering a new one.
    Well, today, several years later, on a whim, I decided to try to fix it again. AND I FINALLY DID IT! I peeled of some of the plastic on the ribbon cable, laid it over the connector, taped it down, and then added a bunch of padding on top so that pressure would be applied so the wireless make enough contact. Such a ghetto rigged solution, but I don't care! I'm so happy!

      how difficult was this to replace? the small ribbons scare me lol

    • @jincyquones
      @jincyquones 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shaunng69 It's not difficult at all, you just have to be very, very careful and gentle. The bigger ribbon cable connectors are easy to unlatch, but the small ones are literally just the tiniest pieces of plastic. I'm still not entirely sure, but I think the smallest ones don't "latch" open like the bigger ones, and you're just supposed to basically wiggle the ribbon out. That's probably where I went wrong. I'd suggest just watching other repair videos, and do EXACTLY what they do.

      JerryRigEverything Hi! I wanted to say that this video is really helpful! I just ordered a tri-wing screwdriver and a new touch screen digitizer because there are some scratches on the screen. But I wanted to ask, and I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this though, but is it possible for me to remove the digitizer and the LCD screen apart? Because I recently had read an article stating that they were "fused" together. But I also read another article stating that they are fused together, but can be removed because it's sort of like, glue-like substance. It would really help if you were to help me with this. :)

    Great iinstructions. Thanks for the clarity. However, in disconnecting the joystick, I inadvertently damaged the 6-pin jumper cable. Any sense where I can find a replacement?

    Great video, thanks. As of today, not seeing where to find a new digitizer/screen though. You put a link to the triwing and a link to an extended battery in the description but that's it.

      JerryRigEverything Excellent. Got the screen and replaced it. Took about an hour to take everything apart and put it back together (those tiny ribbon cables sure put up a fight to get reconnected). Works great now, thanks a bunch!

    Very nice, well put together video. Question: my ZL button has been sticking (albeit very slightly) lately. Is this something that could be fixed by taking apart the controller? I'd like to know if it's possible before I buy one of the tri wing screwdrivers

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might have something stuck inside of it. You can always try cleaning it out.

    Word of warning to people attempting to do this. If you are going to replace the digitizer, keep in mind ther is a black plastic lining that is stuck to the wii's original one. I just finished replacing mine and it looks off now because it dosen't have the lning on it. But this is a great tutorial and thanks for posting it :)

      Thanks! And thanks for the heads up about the lining. Im sure it will help others out.

    Thank you for the upload. I have a question. I dropped my gamepad and when I picked it up it looked like the display was cracked but the screen is not cracked. It won't turn on anymore but occasionally I can get the light to turn on but nothing else works. I also cannot turn the light back off when I manage to turn it on. What do you think I broke and how should I go about fixing it? All buttons work fine and the screen as mentioned isn't cracked.

    My brother and I had our gamepad screen broken a while back.
    He's since left home, but he's coming back for the holidays.
    During his stay we plan on fixing the gamepad and we'll have this video by our side each step of the way, maybe I'll comment again on how it goes.
    Worst case scenario, we drop another 150-200 for a full replacement gamepad.

      In the second hand electronics store in my town you get a new Wii u gamepad for $75

    It's a nice tutorial JerryRigEverything but i have a different problem, just the right stick, while i'm playing it becomes crazy and starts to do the movement without touching it, would it be the possible solution, to clean it as well ? Thanks

  • @deltaray3
    @deltaray3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    In my case, the game pad had been dropped in water. After putting it in rice for a couple days I was able to fix it, but then the down button on the D pad was stuck. It turned out that the simple act of taking off the back cover and taking the D pad out and putting it back together fixed the problem. Sometimes you don't have to do much.

    Hey Jerry. Your video really helped me replace my screen. However, after replacing I find I get a buzzing noise from the gamepad and it won't power up. Any idea what it could be. I took apart the pad and double checked the connections and everything is good.

      Andar Broment Wish I had seen this comment before I had ordered it. Now I have two useless screens and no idea how to switch the Digitizer from the old one to the new one...and honestly I dont even know if the Digitizer is even good anymore. I was of the impression the link provided was for the entire screen replacement not just one little portion.

  • @xCrackxRabbitx
    @xCrackxRabbitx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I ordered a digitizer and it had bubbles between the glass, resulting in a "ghost" touch on the screen. Theres probably no fix for this is there? Great breakdown video by the way.
