The Wall is a concept album that is autobiographical, written by Roger Waters. the footage you're watching comes from the film directed by Alan Parker. The album has been a staple for each generation of teenagers in the UK for forty years. The Wall is a metaphor for the barrier we erect around ourselves to protect ourselves from the cruelty and harshness of the World and of the human condition. It's basically a rock star having an existential crisis. It tells the story of a rock star named Pink.(Roger) The album goes through His early life through the education system, His relationship with His mother and the other women in His life. Roger lost His father at Anzio when He was a baby, He never knew His father. His father lost His father in the Somme when He was a child so He also grew up not knowing His father.. Roger is very much an anti-war activist and a champion of Human rights and dignity all over the world. Roger Waters is a master musician and storyteller, I'd be very surprised if Ren wasn't one of those teenagers from a small Welsh village who grew up listening to Roger.
Like you say his father died at Anzio, he was a 2nd lieutenant who was a "pacifist" early on but then became more left wing and joined up after becoming communist.
I need you to substantiate that 'this album has been a staple for each generation of teenagers in the UK for forty years.' And it's pure conjecture that Ren was 'one of those teenagers', without Ren himself saying so.

Also, when listening to *Pink Floyd,* keep in mind that *The Wall* album was the first one where Roger Waters did the vast majority of the writing, and it was written more as an opera, with a storyline, whereas the previous albums functioned using themes rather than stories (unless we consider the inevitable movement from birth to death a story).
As American, from Detroit, Michigan, who has been loving your channel, you brought me to tears as well. Eastern Europe has always seemed such a scary, oppressive place to me. I dont know where you’re from, or even where you ended up living your lives. I was so moved by your reaction . God bless freedom, wherever it can be found. I appreciate the good sharing - you two are beautiful. The connection people can have with this song, and Pink Floyd in general, is worthy of considerable thought. This particular song and "The Wall" as whole are fundamental human concepts. I would like to write more, but it is never enough. There are literally (or were in the 1980's) University classes around the socio-political and existential commentary of Pink Floyd. Specifically, the concept albums DSOTM and The Wall.

I came for Pink floyd, Aurora and Rammsteins music and they are so far from each other musicways but there is so much quality, diversity and emotions. Thank you for being open. I don't know how hard your life was, and WHY it was so hard specifically. Did you both experience government oppression? And if so, to what extreme? I ask this rhetorically. More in line with this song, childhood is hard. Harder for some than it is for others. Personal Insecurities can cripple a person. With proper parenting, these inherited emotional weaknesses can be curbed, and even overcome. God be merciful to those who add to the burden of a child, as happens to Pink in this song / video. You're some honest, sincere and emotionally wholesome people. And, Dominica, you absolutely are someone to say PF is a permanent part of music history and even future. You both are touched by their music, not everyone does, some do not feel music emotionally and that is ok. There will always be future young people who will discover Pink Floyd's musical legacy.
In 1989 the wall was teared down in Berlin. Roger Waters and a lot off musical friends played The Wall at Potsdammer Platz in 1990. Very appropriate at that time. With the Dubliners, Sinnead O'Conner, Marianne Faithfull, Snowy White, The Scorpions, Van Morisson, Bryan Adams, etc I was there. The video was taken from a movie with Bob Geldoff from the Boomtown Rats in the leading roll when Roger Waters was still the bassist of Pink Floyd. After that The Pink and Roger went their own ways.

'Another Brick In The Wall' is in 3 parts. The 1st is describing the boy (Pink Floyd)'s father dying in WW2. The 2nd is his experience of school. The 3rd during his insanity later on. The whole 'Wall' album is a concept of the rise & fall of 'Pink Floyd'. It's genius. The video is taken from The Wall movie. That's another story for another time.

Oh yeah....1989 the wall falls! I was 13 and the world changed 360 degrees. The song played over and over again. Childhood memories! Greetings from Berlin (east)

BTW Putin was burning secret Stasi files when the wall fell, he did not completely
succed and a lot were later recovered. So even as a spy he failed.
360 was right, because for me personally nothing was the same as before.Just a little personal story that I associate with this great song.

This was the start up of the band and Roger departing. 95% of the Wall is Rogers work with little in put ( fighting)with the rest of the band. Rick ( Keys) was fired by Roger. Roger law suit when leaving, got all the rights except 5 songs to the Wall. Next " the Final Cut" was all Roger work with Pink Floyd getting credit as Preforming the music.Roger perform "The Wall" in 2005 with a guess appearance by Gilmore stated at the end saying about his anger in the pat about his past. Rogers "Amused to Death" is a master piece of a concept album. Relating to the danger from TV.

It's true. Corporate employment sucks you in & spits you out. We are & were just fodder for the machines. The Wall was a protest against the school system as it was back then which, for the UK, was a three tier system of Comprehensive, Grammer or Public (private) Schools. All of which were flawed & responsible for much of the chaos we have today.

Great reaction, as usual. I wonder if by "messed up" you mean that Pink Floyd does a good job portraying a system that is very messed up? The song "Goodbye Cruel World" closes out the first album, and marks the point at which Pink, the character, is completely surrounded by the wall built around him, hence "Goodbye." If you ever get around to reacting to the album/movie in full, I'll be there!

Yeah, you need to listen to the entire album to appreciate the context with which the songs were written. The Wall was a musical work of art that needs to be listened through to appreciate.
Take a look at "Tarka y Ocarina" by Los Jaivas (1977). It represents the fight of good and evil. Fusion of folklore, rock, jazz, classical music and many instruments. A trip. Los Jaivas, South American Pink Floyd. 😊

That was not just Another Brick In The Wall but also "Outside The Wall", (The part with the goodby) that is the final cut on the album and the film.
The four of them together change absolute the sense and feeling of the end, that should be a moment of peace and self reconciliation, not a suicide.
This looks like that this is from the 1982 film adaptation and not the original 1979 music video.

Encore une fois, Pink Floyd de ummagumma à the final cut (1968 1983) ce ne sont que des chefs d'oeuvre, Une fois R.Waters parti, la poésie sombre a disparu au profit du musique au son parfait créé par D.Gilmour essentiellement. Ceci dit, il ne faut pas oublier R.Wright absolument essentiel aux grandes oeuvres du Floyd... que jolly girafe vous conseille Echoes (version GDANSK) ou Shine on you crazy diamond pour en comprendre l'apport. Pink Floyd c'est la rencontre de 3 génies (si on exclut Barrett) Waters a la créativité, à la poésie sombre, aux textes magnifiques. Gilmour à la perfection du son de la guitare et Wright aux claviers. Il est plus difficile d'évaluer réellement l'apport de Mason (le batteur). Quel dommage qu ils n aient su s'entendre pournous créer encore et encore des chefs d'oeuvres.
I think you should watch the movie "The Wall" and do a reaction on that (if you can make it all the way through). It's very intense, but at least you have a grasp on understanding the songs and band by now.
The saddest part of this, is that Bob Geldolf, who in the vid played a brick out....in real life, became a brick in the wall, won over by the money.

Music today is good but often there is no content in the lyrics or sometimes no lyrics at all. When I was growing up we expected music to have a message. The fact that music like this can touch your heart is proof of the spiritual power of music. Music can express things that words simply can't.

Not being able to communicate might leave one feeling frustrated and alone, maybe even to the point of building a wall around oneself as a perceived object of protection.
