- How to repair opened roll hoops, to factory standards. No glue is applied anywhere. It is plastic welded with factory inner wire connected to electricity.

Thank you for making this video. I have to replace my roll hoop because the back of the shell is broken. The repair shop doesn't seem too anxious take this on. I am going to give it a try.

Mine just opened on it's own, while the original top was still present and nobody messed with it. While the shop was installing a new top a couple years later, they asked me if I did anything to cause it. and I said no. I really wish they had the expertise to do this while the top was removed. I appreciate your kindness sharing this information so I know what to do to fix it. The language is not an issue I am in the United States.

Sir, I have watched your video multiple times, but I don't see how you accessed the back side of the bulkhead to get to the mounting bolts on that side. I see others seem to have done it but I am nervous about it. Thank you in advance for your reply and also for posting your video. It is the only one that addresses this work.
Hello John, I don't understand what you mean by Bulkhead... If you are talking about the bolts and clamps of the plastic liner behind the roll hoops, just follow the steps explained in the video. Some of them I can't show in the video because impossible to film there.
And don't get stressed about something you've never done, follow the steps in this video and you'll be fine.
Once you have the car in front of you and you start disassemble, you will get it.
I take advantage on every new comments to make an update on mines, they are still holding perfectly.

Thanks for your comment. I am glad to help! There is a lot of videos with people making a mess using all sorts of glues... This is the way they welded the pieces back in the day in Japan's factory. Mines are holding on very well. Take care.

Holy cow it worked!! Thanks so much for the video. I didn’t need the charger, just a 12v car battery smoked them up in 5 seconds.

Mines are still holding strong
I plan to try your procedure, but I'm waiting to fix mine until closer to the time I go to sell it. I still use my cover which snaps onto the roll hoop covers and probably contributes to the breakage. I don't want to have to do it twice.
Why would you wait to fix them so the new owner will enjoy them? Fix them already and you would enjoy them yourself. Mine's are still holding perfectly after 2 years.
I was detailing the interior of my car the other day and noticed the passenger side roll hoop cover had come apart like this. Thanks for the video, thankfully I only have to repair one side (for now). I'm assuming I still have to remove the panels on the driver side to remove the glove box as well?

@@Orelionsworkshopit seems like a fully charged 12v battery would put out too much current. Was yours fully charged when you did this?
@@JDMjdawg 12v is 12v unless you are referring to the amps, in my case I was even using a battery charger so more like 14v… don’t bother with that, the important is the amount of time you apply it. As soon as it starts smoking a little bit, remove the current. Just follow my video and you’ll be fine.
I was talking about the amperage since car batteries of course are high amperage. I just finished welding my roll hoop covers using your method with a brand new S2000 battery and it was smoking within 3 or 4 seconds! Thanks again for putting this tutorial together. Did you only heat the outer wire or also the inner wire? ....good video, my friend!!
Both of them, on each loop.
Looks like it’s totally possible to remove the roll hope and the center console box without removing the trim pieces and trays behind the roll hoop?
You don't have to remove those parts at all. Just need to unclamp the plastic rivets that holds them to the roll hoops and you will be good.

Is it possible to do this without taking everything apart? If I Could just clamp the battery to each end of the wire you think it would cause any issues?
To be honest, it is not complicated to take the roll hoops apart from the car, and you will have much more room to do the welding process. That's why I did it that way. Keep me posted when you've done yours.

I have an ‘08 (US) and it was nearly impossible to see the wire for the outer perimeter, I had to take a magnet to confirm it was there. Was yours already exposed sufficiently, or did you modify to facilitate the job? Wonders how best to expose the inner wire…
Hi Daniel, please consider subscribing to my channel. The inner and outer wires were exactly as shown on my video, except the extremity that I had to pull a little bit in order to attach the alligator clips. But basically, everything you see on the video is what I have done.
I had to cut the wire and make a small break to get two separate ends but it worked!
Can this method be done in reverse?
This method for reverse? So opening the Roll Hoops basically, is that what you mean? If so, then just pull on them but I can’t guarantee you will not break them. They where not meant to be open

That's right, I meant just that, my driver's side roll hoop is ruined by scratches and marks made by the previous owner and I would like to replace the second half (rear, in front of the soft top) with another one in better condition. Unfortunately, Honda stopped the production of the part 2 years ago :(
@@Orelionsworkshop Could I use this method without holding both parts in place so I can pull them apart?
@@smokeynagata1964 that’s a good point! By warming the wire and melting the plastic it will come apart nicely. But you’ll have to do it on both wires at the same time and do it very quickly. Take care to not over warm the wire. But sincerely, if what you pretend is remove a damaged plastic, you could just pull on both parts
