When I was Cassandra's age, we didn't have an Ulta or Sephora. We didn't have the internet to research ingredients. We didn't have all these brands, for that matter. Chanel was a brand that was sold in upscale department stores, not in any department stores anywhere near me. I didn't like drugstore brands because I couldn't test anything, and there was no return back then. The brands I had to choose from were Lancome, Clinique, and Estee Lauder. Estee Lauder was a brand that your mom or grandma shopped at. Clinique was geared towards teens or barely 20-year-olds. That left me with Lancome. You all should be really thankful for having such an abundance of products and knowledge at your fingertips and within driving distance! I constantly amazed! 💜

Don’t get me wrong I disagree with the price point of luxury skin care, but I think it is extremely discrediting to the cosmetic chemist who work on these products and develop them, just to hear that the brand it’s self doesn’t know how to make skin care. It’s not like the same people who are designing Gucci bags are also developing the skin care. These are paid contracted chemists who are educated and know how to formulate products. Like I said I understand the sentiment of luxury being overpriced and inaccessible, but I do think it’s wrong to say that the people who make these products don’t know what they’re doing.

Chanel researches each product for at least two years, developing a sensorial experience with the right texture and smell and effectiveness and ingredients. They are at the forefront of skin care, trying things others don’t, using extraction and farming processes that are new and different, developing products to make women look and feel better. They make me feel better and more confident. I love the smell and the way they make my skin feel. What one may call a ‘waste of money’, I call an investment in myself. I detest the hate, leave those who enjoy to enjoy.

Thank you Cassandra for telling the truth about Coco Chanel's abhorrent anti-Semitic and homophobic views. I am a gay man of colour engaged to an Ashkenazi Jewish American whose dad was a survivor of a concentration camp. After finding out the truth about Chanel's founder I will never buy any of their products again. Luckily I only bought one thing from them, a perfume. Unfortunately it was my favourite one so I'm going to have to find a new one from a different brand.

More so because of the elitism. Knowing that it’s no longer hers but rather owned by a Jewish family which is the one she wanted to pry it from is quite comical. @@Benjamin-ny5wc then yes that is one that definitely one shouldn’t support. Hers is a bit murky since she basically wanted to block the actual owners from getting Chanel because she did a bad deal in her end (not their fault), just how the times were. And she used her antisemitism to try to get the Nazis to give her The company back. There were other ways to try to negotiate that. But there are companies that worked with the Nazis because they thought they had lived so long; that a dictatorship wasn’t going to kill them or stop them. But all old companies have Nazi ties or had to work for the Nazis directly. Audi, etc. this is why I hate the Nazis and any dictatorships because it leads to this.

I would never spend that much on a serum, especially because yes the ingredients didn’t seem that great; the main focus obviously was the camellia japonica. I feel like the more the public actually knows about it, maybe we can find better ways to work with it. I have it myself. Thank you! Love your content!

Pyunkang Yul isn’t cruelty free, Cassandra. Neither is Paula’s Choice anymore (they started selling to mainland China in 2021 - a lot of bad things seems to happen in 2021, this being one of them). I thought this might be important. I heard it on Mad About Skin.
One good thing that happened in 2021, is Garnier gone cruelty free. They have great vegan micellar water - I especially love the Micellar Rose Water Cleanse and Glow and Green Tea Purifying Cleansing Jelly face wash. 💗

    • @rosemary5005
      @rosemary5005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Of course there’s a lot of great products that unfortunately isn’t cruelty free. Holika Holika for example. But I would have a hard time looking my dog in the eyes after I have done my skincare routine if I have had more products than necessary that was non cf.
Once to two times a week - but absolutely not more than two times a week, I wash my hair: I use Garnier Fructis Hair Food for my hair - and my hair is down to my ass, literally, so I’m doing something right. I also use Castor oil mixed with Garnier Fructis Haitfood Banana or Papaya hair mask (all over my hair and scalp) once a week for an hour up to over night. That’s doing wonders!
I’m using The Ordinary’s Salicylic Acid Anhydrous Solution in my scalp once every week as well as rosehip oil once every two weeks, sea buckthorn oil and a marula oil conditioner mixed together (like a tablespoon of the marula oil conditioner and just two drops of the sea buckthorn oil) and I use this in the scalp. It’s important to not use the sea buckthorn oil on its own because it might colour the hair! And cover the floor and surrounding so it doesn’t get stained, and you might want to cover yourself up with an old T-shirt that you not hold too dear, like that kind of T-shirt that you wear when you’re coloring your hair. The sea buckthorn+marula hair mask is just that - a hair mask. So in 15 minutes to half an hour it’s time to rinse off and maybe use a conditioner for the best result. I’ve been very sparse with shampoo the last five, seven maybe even ten years and I’ve only seen the best results ever. What I’ve used to wash my hair? Conditioner and hair masks that contain salicylic acids and/or lactic acid. The scalp needs to breathe. That’s the only thing to have in mind. But I’ve noticed that you can put a few drops of salicylic acid in the scalp (especially the salicylic acid anhydrous solution by The Ordinary with a little linoleic acid seems to be working perfectly) and just use your fingertips to massage a little bit while the conditioner/hair mask is doing its job before rinsing it out. 👍👍 Works like a charm every single time 😉🙂

Basic biology and chemistry folks.. There are only so many active ingredients that work on human skin. They are the same ingredients whether Chanel uses it or The Ordinary. Unless they have a PATENT, it doesn’t matter which brand you get your chemicals from.

I didn’t know that many people who flashed around luxury, expensive products when I was living in the states. Mainly because people would steal that kind of stuff. But girrrrl. In Japan, almost everyone around me here bought this Chanel serum, including my students who are in high school…I don’t think they care much of how it works, but more on how it looks and how expansive it is. Japan is also a fashion country so almost everyone you see here wear or use expensive stuff~

  • @elenbrandt290

The Camellia was Coco Chanel's favorite flower and is the symbol shown on many Chanel products - perhaps the reason the brand made a point of including in their product line. It is snobbery, yes - but a lot of Chanel makeup is pretty lovely (albeit scented with Chanel perfume... but I digress.)

Camelia flowers have many romantic love associated meanings but it also symbolizes a virtuous scholar's integrity due to the way the entire flower would fall off together when its time came.

Hey Cass, you said this in your previous video but I wanted to ask because I didn't quite understand. So when we use HA in the morning underneath the moisturizer and an SPF it is always going to pile up? That's interesting.I have very dry skin so I love HA during the day but I did notice some piling sometimes so I never assumed it was related because of HA and SPF together. Is there any way to mix them?

Green tea in skincare is marvelous, especially for sensitive skin. But I just happened to come across brand "Amore Pacific" and their green tea cream, 50 ml (1.8 oz) for 510 EUR (580 USD). What the quack, that's worse than La Mer and that means something.

(Unless you've already done it before, in that case my bad) They look like a good price point but I'm not sure about the quality of the ingredients. Hi. As always I want your dead honest opinion (and fact). The two faced hangover pillow cream. It's a night cream. I got a sample from it with my last order from sephora. It looks like a glitter cream? Maybe? I don't know. But I would love a review on their products. It's not a cheap cream if you would buy it. Not extremely expensive either but I want to know about the holographic in that cream. Lots of love from sweden.

Logically, Skin has changed the formualtion of the suncreeen and now it's only SPF30+, it has been a while. This is my absolute favourite sunscreen, none others could compare. In fact, i just stocked up 10 of them. The change was very shady tho, all stock ran out shortly after the korean sunscreen controversy and they didn't have any say in whether their formula stood the SPF test, their customers commented on their socials and got no answer for that. Some websites even took the sunscreen off their selling lists. And then 2-3 months later they came back with the exact same filters concerntration, now just with added 1% of the dipeptide-12. They said they decided to reduce "the labelling" to SPF30+ to "make it appeared more ideal as an daily sunscreen" which rubs me the wrong way wholeheartedly.
If they could have just stood up and admitted that their formula failed the tests and they would be reformulating it then it's fine because the formuala was, and still is outstanding, could crush anything on the market and lots of them contain alcohol to inhance the texture while this one doesn't (yes i know there are other benefitcial properties of alcohol to sunscreen vehicle but doubt that alcohol really is there do the heavy lifting), and it abosorbs seriously like a dream. It's similar to Krave Beauty and the way they acted around their sunscreen. It was through and through shady and dishonest to me, misinformative executed course of action.
Whilst i am still buying this because i've been trying to find something could replace this (my seller has it down to $9,99 during the sales and this is why this particular sunscreen is top knot for me even tho it's only 40ml, which honestly is not economically sustainable but the $9.99 sales justify the continous purchase motive). I'm no longer recommending this suncreen to people, i used to always recommend this even to people with sensitive skin, lots of them loved it. So unsure how long until they stop getting my coins.
