"Buy the car you love, and fix it when it breaks!" Great quote and makes perfect sense for those who love cars and see them more then a means of transportation.

@@childofthe60s100 No not endless just sufficient, or the skills to fix it themselves, as most of the cost of fixing a car is the labour cost. Running a car into the ground isn't really a good think to do. But I guess you could do that, would ultimately be a waste of a good car.

I second this comment! Also, since they did this they need to go and do a video on a 2022 fully loaded svautobiography l405 with the 5.0 l ac 560 hp engine as its the last year before we go back to the 4.4 twin turbo 520 hp BMW engine 😑

another 2002 l322 owner here and I loved the video and have to admit, there is nothing prettier for me then an early l322. My office is in a very wealthy town and it always amazes me that my 22 year old range rover blends in to traffic so well sitting next to new G wagons, Bentleys, Porsches and the people that know what it is really appreciate it but it still manages to pull a big trailer in a muddy field a few hours later

Love all the range Rover nurdyness! I have an 03, 4.4 V8 (bmw engine). It's been well looked after and 100% reliable! People who complain about maintenance costs don't understand what they're buying. It's not a £3-5000 car, it's a £60k car, it needs maintenance which is going to be costly but not paying for the maintenance will be far more costly.
Every time you get into it and drive, it pays you back! Such awesome cars!

    • @lakeshorerides
      @lakeshorerides 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Agreed! Honestly I prefer the bmw m62 V8 as opposed to the later jag/ ford motors for ease of maintenance. There were some flaws like water pumps and alternators but always were very relatively easy to work on. They also were more reliable than the later motors.

Interesting to see the two cars back to back. In my humble opinion, the pre-2005 cars with the square headlights and simpler shape seem to somehow have captured the essence of the range rover classic. The later model is undoubtedly a better car, but id happily take an early well looked after RR because it just looks somehow ‘right’, without all the fussy grills and the cleaner lines than later cars..anyone else agree?

The 4.4 V8 petrol is a great engine, but it’s only barely adequate in the L322. The 4.2 SC is much better suited. I’ve had two 4.4’s (‘07 L322 HSE and ‘08 LR3) and my current ‘07 L322 SC has been fantastic, it’s got just over 330,000 miles on it and I prefer its styling over the newer full-size Range Rovers. Great review, enjoyed it.

i agree with the perspective on the exterior styling... ive had a 06 and and 08 and the interior difference is dramatic.... but those early bmw units had a better, more "timeless" look. I think that (given the relative cheapness of these vehicles at the moment) it would be interesting to see a later model l322 skinned as an early model.

P.s I also fret about the higher tax category, but you are right. It makes little difference especially if its a car that you love owning. Better to get something a little older that you really love and then spend some money to bring it up to scratch. Older cars often mean more repair costs but that said, where you lose one way you gain another. E.g. lower purchase price. Minimal depreciation etc. Its swings and roundabouts.

I had an 02 4.4V8 in the same Giverney Green, but a Vogue. The seats were BMW comfort seats in that, insanely comfortable, I averaged 18mpg in my second year of ownership, driving it like an nun. I don't remember the engine being lowish in torque, but it was a heavy car. At the time it was the most impressive car I owned. At the time it felt huge, bow it looks average and possibly even smaller than an RRS!

I've just driven the best part of six thousand miles in the USA in a 2021 Nissan ARMADA, with about 25000 miles on the clock when I picked it up, 5525 cc V8 lovely car, no complaints at all, quiet until, you floor it and you are suddenly doing 90mph, but having got back home to my L322 Rangie with a completely flat battery lol got it started with a jump, and went and got LPG as it was almost out( luckily I have a 3/4+ full petrol tank, as fuel prices went crazy while we were away for the month) and driving it is a total joy ( it's a 2006 4.2 supercharged Overfinch) hearing the growl that the stainless exhaust makes at any revs over 2000 rpm just puts tingles up and down my spine lol I paid crazy money for it ( not saying how much lol) insurance was a great deal less than I expected. The road tax was a bit painful after coming up from a 2001 Toyota Yaris but hearing you talk about road tax in Ireland and in Europe I'm not going to complain. I just love my car and as I was adamant that I get one with a good LPG system on it, and I did, luckily the LPG is the same price as it was before we went to the states. Compared to the increase in petrol I'm laughing. I still get horrendous mpg when I floor it, but fuck it you only live once lol but 80 litres of LPG is far less than 80 litres of petrol!

I have a 2012 RRS HSE Luxury and love it. I just changed the timing chain at 156k miles. I have done some upgrades inside and outside and when people look at my RRS, they just can’t believe it’s 12 years old. Looks almost brand new. By the way, mine has a Bluetooth connection. I also upgraded to have wireless CarPlay and a touch screen climate control.

Congratulations Gentlemen . A wonderful collaboration.
I love these videos. Can't believe the Green car is 20 years old, lovely car. The Westminster is gorgeous..
I agree with the comment about buying what you like, drive it and repair if it breaks down. I have been RR fan for years , but was always put off by people, Work of the Devil !
Anyhow relocating to live , on The Wild Atlantic Way, the purchase of a RR Sport was organised by my brother who is a Landrover and RR fan and has a collection of them too.
Keep the videos coming guys. Many thanks for all the information. The commentaries and presentations are excellent..
It is great listening to fellow anoraks 😃 😀 😄 Thank you both, very sincerely Derek
