  • This 1968 Chevelle has been stored for years and its time to get it out. To get it home it needs to drive a 700 mile trip. Will it run and drive after years of storage?

I was with my buddy who bought a 69 Chevelle for $75 bucks. It was supposed to be blown up. We put gas in it and battery and played with the distilributor. It ran a 307. I love those old cars. I own a 68 now with a HO454 and a Tremec TKX five speed. I probably have $55 K in mine. I've had it for 10 years.

Tip on the fuel pump eccentric rod,if you put a bit of oil or grease even Vaseline on the shaft and push it up and come back to the front of the motor right side of the water pump just below it you will see two bolt holes choose the one that is a little closer to the block and put a bolt in it while pushing the fuel pump eccentric rod up, it will hold the rod up so you can get the fuel pump installed.

Font even need to use grease. The 2 bolt hole on the front of the block the top one you can put a bolt in it and it holds the fuel pump rod in place. Do not forget to put a short bolt back in the hole so it doesn't leak oil.

My first Car after my Navy run in 85 was a 68 Chevelle Malibu 327 in Blue. Had a local shop and Friends build it with a Crower Beast Cam and a built TH350! Had a lot of fun with it. Had it until I sold it to my Nephew. I remember PAW, lol. Used to love looking at those over and over.

Great vid, i worked on my room mates 70 Chevelle , green, in 96, what a pleasure to work on it, was so well made, enough metal in it to build three cars these days. I rebuilt the back fender wells on it and we dropped a so called rebuilt engine into it, it turned out to be garbage, but man did i ever enjoy working on that beauty, she sold it to her son in law and i never saw it again.

I also bought a '68 Conours 307 in 1989 from a kid who needed bail/lawyer money. Born with a 3-on-the-tree, someone before me did a horrible job converting it to a TH350. It was purchased as a daily driver so I could do some extensive work on my '71 C-10. It took me 6 months to sort it out. Crager SST's with bias-plys and air shocks. Momo wheel and a bench seat. Someone painted it emerald green. It was a 70's throw back. I drove it for a year then sold it to my cousin. Who managed to get it totaled on a construction site when they dropped some heavy machinery on it.

I bought a 68 red chevelle SS 396/375 hp, in 68 for $ 2800. Street race it and a few times at Lions Drag Strip. Rebuilt the engine 2 times in 4 years, I guess I had a heavy foot. I sold the car in 72, the new owner did not want the engine or 4speed trans, he was going to install a small block with an automatic. I have alway hoped I could locate the car, still have the 396 and 4speed. I don't know the vin number only the California license plate number WJT 118, purchased in Pasadena, CA and sold in Los Angeles, CA. It was a great car for 18 year old maybe too much car. I can't wait to see your finished 68 chevelle, keep up all the great work/information. Thanks!

Great work getting the old car up and running. I believe if you would have serviced that transmission before you started out and got the Lucas hot by driving a ways with it on top of the intake or somewhere it could have warmed up and been pourable and that would have given your transmission fluid time to warm up. That's the way the Lucas works. Not sponsored or affiliated with Lucas Oil . Just previous owner of many worn out 350 and 400 turbo GM transmissions and a couple of worn out R4's. I guess the fact that they run long enough to wear out is a testament to the durability of GM transmissions. Well, good luck to you. Be looking forward to a follow up video in this motley ride. ❤🐘🇺🇸

Hello Matt, I just happened to catch your Channel while fumbling through mine to see what I could watch anyhow I had a 72 409 Chevelle but I could swear if they called it the 403 semi Hemi who knows. So the Chevelles have a spot in my heart there mine was given to me by my best man as a wedding present way back in the day. Myself I've always been a Mopar guy but the Chevelle was a nice car it happened to be owned by a little old lady believe it or not yeah a big block right but she even had it under the dash AC unit installed in it before my friend bought it. Anyhow I heard you talking about the rebuild kit and all that and how long ago you did it well back when I was just a youngster my first car in fact that I bought and rebuilt was a 68 Roadrunner with a 383 that was not long for the world yeah I read asked it and put some valves through some Pistons. But anyway I got a 440 Interceptor engine high performance out of the Florida state trooper car and balanced and blueprinted that motor I started working on that car when I was 15 and by the time I turned 17 she was all done, yeah back in the day before computers before any of the horse s*** and dynoed out at 750 horsepower. Of course I had a lot of money involved into that motor and drivetrain but the three years after that I never lost a race not street or strip. Anyway the rebuild kit I wanted to tell you about came from JC Whitney and I'm telling you I figured well yeah I'm going to get a bunch of horseshit parts and all that but I ended up getting some of the greatest parts that could ever have been sold even the Cam Kit turned out to be an escaderian cam which was perfect for Big Block Chryslers back then. I just thought I'd share a little of history with you, I would like to say that I also wish you all the blessings.
