Dude thats awesome happy for you! 396 is a sweet engine too lots of fun. We have 3 more chevelle eps coming out and a REALLY special episode tomorrow. Hope you stick around to check em out im curious what youll think of tomorrow's episode... pretty insane story. Congrats on the car again let us know how it does
Absolutely. Ive always had cars . 69 z28 rallye sport , grand national , little red express truck . Many bigger trucks . Dodge with cummins , but my chevelle was so cool . My rs z28 and my Chevelle in my opinion were to of the best bodies ever .
Glad you like it appreciate the love. There are more Chevelle come in this season.. actually 3. And this one appears in a drag racing episode that comes out april
It's a wonderful feeling, seeing somebody so close to myself. I am 62 and have a 67 El Camino with a 632cc big block. Its N/A and does not have nitrous or turbos., It makes 1182 hp and 910 lbs of torque. I did a summer worth of bodywork. The following summer I did a 4linkin and full roll cage. I have a odd transmission. Art Carr build a 1000 hp R100 4 speed. I can run on the drag strip in the mid 8s. and on the freeway at 75mph+ at 2200rpm. When you get older it is great having something to be passionate about. Cheers!
That was an amazing episode. Bruce is one of the nicest guy`s you`ll ever meet. His knowledge of cars, whether it`s mechanical or Bodywork is outstanding. Another amazing production Max.
Thank you for the kind words guys. Bruce is truly one of those people you are blessed to meet in life. Not only is he an amazing car builder but he's such a great person too. When I first met him we spoke for several hours at his garage and he was not only extremely knowledgeable but willing to offer advice. I told him about my own personal quest with the Nova and he gave me so many tips and tricks... even though he just met me. I think that goes pretty far and says a lot about a guy. Honoured to have been able to share his wonderful story and the same with Ross and Henry's. Truly blessed.
that setup with the cutouts is EXACTLY what I want to do to my 68 chevelle. open the cutouts and its basically open headers with extensions like the drag racers run, then close them and have a nice chambered muffler sound with an H pipe crossover to tame it down for cruising! Also that van he has looks sweet. My brother is building one like that too
Oh yeah man It works well. I've seen Bruce many times and it's awesome when he opens the header dumps. Plus he removes all the other seats puts the tuner mufflers on and races. You'll see more EPs with this car soon March 8th there is a huge race ep and this car is one of the main cars.
Glad you like it. If you like his Chevelle there is an episode we did on his impala as well it's a super nice job even if your not a fan of impalas (which I wasn't but it's a hell of a job he did). Also got a drag racing episode coming out in spring 2024 and this Chevelle is one of the main cars we feature on kt
100% glad you like the videos thanks for watching. If you like Bruce he will be back racing this car in our Nostalgia episode tjay comes out early 2024
Cheatha used to come to Clayton and Syracuse car shows. Haven's seen that car in about 10 years. I always wondered what happened to the car and him. Glad he's still got it and having fun. Last time I saw it he had the 427. He told me, at the time, that every year he puts a new set of 285/70/15s on the back. If you see this we would love to see you back at the Syracuse Nationals or any Upstate NY car shows. Cheers my friend
That's pretty cool man I am not sure what his plans are but you will see more of this car on this channel. We released a drag racing video and he was in it. And June 2nd we are doing another race tournament and this car is entered in it. Awesome history man
You have good taste in cars if the 68 is your fav. You will like this channel we have two more of them appearing on this season ! One of which is a 68 rag top original owner (guy was old school as hell super cool dude) and the other is actually a beaumont... which is the canadian version of this car but looks the same only badges as an acadian.
My first car, in 1974, was a 1968 Matador red, black vinyl top, SS Chevelle, 4 speed, 396, 373 gear, 138 vin. Built in Baltimore. Long gone, but I still have the registration paper. Thanks for the memories.😩
Great cars indeed. Bruce's is mint but we actually have another episode later in the season that is a red with black vinyl top as well. Thanks for watching
Omg...I seriously had a very similar situation. Mine was a 70 chevelle Malibu 307.i was 15...painted it first summer.put a 327 in it at 16...then at 17 a 454. 12 bolt with turbo 400 shift kit 488 gears....loved that car...so glad to see you kept yours.

Hi, you've built a beautiful car there! Anyone who puts it down because its a "clone," obviously can't understand the case hobby at all! Pay no mind my friend, thus is an amazing builld!!
Really cool episode and think the owners passion for the car really shows. I got to say this is very close to exactly my style if I had the choice to build it however I would want.
Thanks for the kind words. Yeah Bruce is one hell of a builder and his work is exceptional. The impala coming up is even more impressive but this car is incredible. Yeah he had great choices of how he did the car. Cool it matches your style you will probably like his other work too. His body work is also amazing you may see him on the nova series giv8ng tips.
I love the 68 Chevelle, regardless of it being a SS396 or Malibu. You know all the parts interchange perfectly, but the car that I could kick myself over was a 68 Malibu that came factory with a hp 327ci,and had bucket seats, console and a 12 bolt rearend. And I could have owned it for 3500 bucks back then . I own both, a 68 SS396 car "138" vin number, and My 68 Malibu that I have owned since 1979,and if I have to sell one of them I will sell the SS car and keep my Malibu that was cloned way back when, but is currently getting any SS badging taken off and a aftermarket cowl hood put back in its place.
That is very cool sounds like you have two beauties. Well if you like this car we filmed two more 68 chevelles in this season (soon to come). One of which is super rare, also a 396 like yours only its a Beaumont, which is the canadian version of the car. Its unique and looks really nice. Thanks for sharing hope you stick around the channel lots of oldschool cars here.
@@SubdivisionAuto Oh definitely! I admit I was first introduced to the Chevelle when I watched Fast and Furious 4 when Dom used a 1970 Chevelle SS to race. Eversince then I researched the history of the Chevelle and fell in love with it with 68-70 being my favorite years but if I had my pick of the crop it would be a nice black or red 68 Chevelle SS 396 :-)
@jaidencarvalho1761 very cool man super nice cars. I just bought my dream car a 72 nova (baby brother of the chevelle) and it took a full year to find the perfect one. Totally worth it so I recommend you make it a goal and go for it
@@SubdivisionAuto That is awesome! Congratulations on obtaining your Nova! That must be a great feeling finally earning your dream car! Yes I am definitely working towards saving up for a Chevelle and will get one eventually! The right car will come at the right time I think. Thank you for the encouragement!
@jaidencarvalho1761 my pleasure. I'm only encouraging you because I went through that process and as crazy as it was it was 100% worth it. All I can say is don't settle make sure you are totally happy and be patient. He'll we filmed the entire thing if you check out the latest restoration video we posted "barn find parked 46 years" you can see how we got the car. Good luck!
I used to own a 68 Malibu I still think it's one of the best looking cars ever made still wished I owned it among the few others that I had over the years beautiful car really good job and in my opinion done exactly the way I would have street legal hell on wheels
the 68 Malibu is a work of art. Like you said one of the best looking cars of all-time. The car is amazing and if you like it I suggest you stick around because you will see it in action again in our drag racing episode thats down the line (You can see the preview in the Trailer Park Boys Ricky's Car episode, at the end). Also there is another 68 chevelle featured with a 572 big block original owner! Lots of cool cars to come as well. Thanks for the comment and watching the show.
Yeah Bruce is an amazing builder he has a lot of cars. One of the many people I have met that have offered a lot of great advice for my own project (when I finally find it). Have a lot of these episodes on the way you should see some of amazing builds people are doing... hard not to be inspired. Lots of talented guys out there like yourself working on cars in their garages.... thanks for dropping in my friend can't wait to see that car all finished you put your life and soul into it
Indeed Swede. If you stick around there is another episode coming out in April of the car in drag racing action. We can't really push the cars too much on the road so we brought some of the fastest cars we filmed to the strip. Also today you'll see one hell of an episode on this channel. Talking about people loving their cars my father in law had a 72 charger he sold many decades ago. We ended up finding him and reuniting him with it
@@SubdivisionAuto Thanks, I got to see that one! 👍 I hope to go to the dragstrip here in Sweden with my 1970 Chevelle this summer. I will check your father inlaw reunite with his mopar!
Glad you like it. You should check out the latest video on this channel the Wayne Young video it's a drag racing video and Thai car is an absolute beast in it
Beautiful car,a automatic transmission plus pulleys rob 123 hp😳this is criminal,I know a chevelle came with a 396/402 big block,but I didn't know they came with 427's unless it's a yenko chevelle,salute
Great video. I have a question: I have the same pump or the black one which is regulated. However I wanted to know whether the outlet side of the pump, i.e. the hose, also transmits the vibration from the pump rotor so strongly? Well, I previously had a simple Holley pump and wanted to install something classy. But the Aeromotive is quite loud.
Indeed it's a beauty. If you like it you should have around. In a couple months there is an episode coming out where it's all about drag racing and this car is one of the main ones featured in it
CHevy IIs are awesome as welll, we are restoring a 72 Nova so the next gen on this channel. This chevelle was crazy fast couldnt even show the crazy stuff didnt want to get into too much trouble hah! But you will see this car in action in a couple months. There will be an episode of this show with american muscle cars drag racing. This chevelle is one of the main cars in that episode.
@CalebGibbsAvenue glad you enjoyed it makes me very happy to hear. If you enjoyed it you should see the impala episode that's down the line. Some next level work on that one. Aside from bruce we have been filming with some of ottawas best car builders so you'll see some amazing builds. People really found ways to get the most out of these cars and happy to share their stories. Thanks for the support means a lot
He means a "solid roller cam", not a "hydraulic solid cam". It's either hydraulic or solid lifters, whether the cam is a "roller" or "flat tappet" cam or not.
What headers are you running? My heads are not the round port, they’re more D shaped. I’m leaning toward the ceramic coated 2” tube Hooker. Thanks. I pulled a 350 out and a 468 is fresh on the engine stand ready as soon as I collect the big block accessories, going in a 69 Chevelle.
Dear Sir our cars are very similar I have a 68 true ss 396 it was my mother's though it was used as a getaway car in robberies in 1971 we got it from our impound yard when she fell in love with it after many years of driving it was parked for resto but she died from cancer n my dad gave me this basket case I sold my 75 nova ss drag car to start the build n 8n a half years later it's almost done. Well there never done n yes 68 as was always my favorite it now has my 468 turbo 400 with 3500 stall 1 2 bolt posi Moser axle n internals full frame off 4 wheel disc total interior as well but being a little over 6 feet tall was a problem so I moved both seat back 4n half inches other mods I did to suit my taste were also front suspension upper n lower global west items adjustable shocks the rear arms are next my complete fuel system is up graded with half inch supply n return braided stainless lines all stainless brake lines lots of money n time in fuel n wiring of this car a total labor of love as I said our cars are very similar yours is very nice and nice that you your self as I did the work at least at car shows we car say I built it not bought it 😅 Ray Stein
@@SubdivisionAuto I think I found them they only make one size tire. It’s a BFGoodrich silvertown radial 285/70/15 not a TA radial like in the front. Had to zoom on your video before I noticed the silvertown on them. Lol Nice 68 and very informative video:)
840HP out of a (solid roller) 540ci is believable, 1100FTlbs of torque tho? no Turbo or supercharger? that thing would have to have 15:1 compression ALL DAY with an 86mm turbski spinning 1200HP to turn 1100ftlbs torque numbers. no brake stands needed! A friend of mine built a (solid roller) 632ci 69 SS Chevelle 990 RWHP! (the best of everything), that only produced 800ftlbs of torque @ 13:1 on 108+ fuel! it's a beautiful Chevelle, I have a (real barrel tach) 68 SS Chevelle 4spd with a punched out 10.7:1 496 Stroker putting 620ftlbs to the ground, so I appreciate this car. but you ain't getting 1100ftlbs torque @ 11:1 compression on pump gas.
So, you basically took a Malibu and re-badged it. Though many people do that, it doesn't make it an SS. Nice car, but it is what it is a Malibu. I had a true 69 SS and never heard of anyone ever referring to any Chevelle as having 3 names. That's a new one.
Yeah it's a crazy fast car we filmed an episode with some of the fastest cars on this season and this car is featured in it . Coming out this winter so stay tuned..
Wow, big deal, the SS option was just a trim option with a few suspension upgrades, and the trim differences were subject to be different depending on which plant the car came out of. You anal guys about whether or not it's a TRUE SS are really hilarious when you are talking about a 50+ year old hotrod, that by the nature of a hotrod is going to be changed to suit the owner at that moment. Hey, the people at Pebble Beach called and said to get your perfect concourse car right on up there. Give it a rest.
Pretty easy to tell that the guy wasn't trying to pass it off as a SS car. It's a Chevelle, and what do you know, all the SS equipment fits perfectly. When you turn a factory SS into a street strip car all that stuff doesn't really matter. People are obsessed with that SS label, and try to cut it down for some reason. I have had somewhere around 20 true SS cars and I have a 1968 SS396 "138" ,but my 68 Malibu is without a doubt my favorite and always has been. I've had it since 1979 and cloned it, but I'm currently restoring it, and taking anything SS off of it because people look at the vin number and say aw,who does he think he's fooling. I've heard all that, and now they can accept it for what it is or walk across the street and look at that Volkswagen Beatle they've always dreamed of owning.
Sick car but idk about 850. Maybe in top condition tuned at the fly wheel on spray. In the video at least, looks around 6-650. I drove a pheonix once, had a true 700hp big block and slicks wider and taller than this, and it was white smoking the tires with ease, you didn’t have to sit and bake it on the brakes on like this
@@SubdivisionAuto I don’t doubt that one bit. She’s still a sick car. 9.80 is moving in a large car from the 70s. I still love the build though, very nostalgic
My dad bought a 68 chevelle SS in the early 80s. I drove it in high-school in the early 90s. Would take my girlfriend to school ( we been married 28 years). My dad and son rebuilt the car about 5 years ago. It's painted candy apple red with a 427 and 4 speed manual. Me and the wife went on a date to McDonald's last weekend, just like 30 years ago.
I've never seen anything other than my 64 with two badges. The front fenders have an emblem saying Chevelle and the rear quarters say Malibu SS. And on none SS it just says Malibu on the rear.
WHy throw rocks over a dyno # or some trivial detail? Proven 9 sec st car thats reliable. Cant argue that!! At least hes getting his $ worth and not using it as a dust collector in a garage.
Indeed Bruce races this car quite often. You will actually see a drag racing episode coming out with this car in action. Then you can really see what 840hp looks like in action! Thanks for watching hope you stick around for the ride
Can anyone tell me whats the big deal having a vintage muscle with 840 Hp when the original wasn’t even close to that. Myself I have a 1970 charger done up nice but I have a 318 in it. So I’m saying why do people spend huge amount of money on horse power but never use it.
We go over that in the video. He does a lot of drag racing with the car. Last year he did at least 8 races and won all but one. So that's why he needs the power. You'll actually see an episode on this channel of one of the races. But I get your point about people going crazy with power and never using it. Thanks for watching
@@SubdivisionAuto Im sorry for being negative but the owner is sure taking a risk racing such a beautiful car…if anything ever happen to my car I’d know I’d cry like I lost my best friend…
@@joewatson3261 oh no not at all I don't think your being negative but rather realistic because yeah I've seen no lack of fast cars that's don't need to be fast. Bruce has been racing since the early 80s so he has a lot of experience. but yeah I agree crashing would be horrible especially such a nice car.
@@gordocarboYou make no sense at all I’ll bet you that the owner of that beautiful car does not have racing insurance it makes no sense for a casual racer to get insurance because it down right expensive. Look it up..
"Around" 840hp "Somewhere around 1100ftlbs of torque" Where the hell do they come up with these inflated numbers? Spend the money and do a dyno and tune and get the real numbers. You'd probably be really surprised at the "real" numbers.
Was on the dyno and those numbers are matching. So not over inflated. Keep in mind HP at the wheels and HP at the crank are never the same. And yeah this car is insanely fast you can watch him in the latest video racing. Hope this helps. Cheers
The "3 names" is kinda funny. Wasn't there the base model Chevelle 300, then the Malibu, with various trim options within that level, and then the SS, with various trim options within that? They were all a Chevelle. You could have an SS, plain looking no stripes sedan with bench seat and column shift auto, with crankdowns or it could be like a loaded Malibu optioned up SS hardtop with buckets, console, pwr windows, stripes, different transmissions, with or without F41 suspension, with or without the special hood, and on and on. If someone is not being judged at a concours all original show, after 50+ years, who cares if it was an "original SS" or whatever. Get a life move on. It's a hotrod, by nature they are not left original or stock. As an example this car was not stock in hardly any way when he got it in high-school way back when. It looked cool then, its a trick hotrod now.
You are right. Here is the thing about SS, and this is my take on things after filming quite a few SS and none SS cars. What the value of SS (monetary) is vs the performance is extremely in 68 vs 2023. Back then SS got you features, there was no aftermarket like we have now. So having SS cars gave you SS features which gave performance and was worth the money. Having things like disc brakes in the front, or a 12 bolt, or upgraded suspension etec etc. Now SS is not performance because any of those parts from back in the day are worse than anything on the aftermarket now. Take Bruce's Chevelle or his 65 Impala (which there is an episode for) both none SS cars just look like SS cars. But they perform WAAAAY better than any SS car ever did in the 60s. So now when your buying a true "SS" car you are really only paying for the VIN. If you are a collector thats cool I get that but as a normal guy its worth doing what bruce did. I am doing the same thing on our 72 Nova... we bought a shell and doing all modern. THanks for your comment
Indeed. There is an episode coming out in the new year all about drag racing and this car is one of the main cars on that episode. Hope you stick around to see whats to come we are getting into the big boy cars now

Awesome car! I hope to own a 1968/69 Chevelle SS one day
It is indeed. If you want it bad enough you'll make it happen for sure. What draws you to the Chevelle of all Cars
Cool car and nice video. Wanted to do something like this myself. Love the format
Yeah Bruce is an amazing builder he has a lot of cars. One of the many people I have met that have offered a lot of great advice for my own project (when I finally find it). Have a lot of these episodes on the way you should see some of amazing builds people are doing... hard not to be inspired. Lots of talented guys out there like yourself working on cars in their garages.... thanks for dropping in my friend can't wait to see that car all finished you put your life and soul into it
He sure loves his Chevelle!👍 its a beautiful car.

Agreed. I was pretty green at this point just starting out so didnt do the greatest job. Hopefully making some progress now. Thanks for watching
Beautiful car and content! Loved the video!! I wish I knew his wheel / tire combo..I would love to do the same on my chevelle

Very cool! Wicked fast. Good job keep it up 👍🏻
Glad you like it.
Beautiful car - Detroit muscle at its best.
Sweet car!
I have seen a lot of chevelles I got to put this one at the top
Indeed it's a beauty. If you like it you should have around. In a couple months there is an episode coming out where it's all about drag racing and this car is one of the main ones featured in it
Man I’d love to have that original 68 ss steering wheel for my 68… no one even makes a replica one that I’ve seen
my 1st car i bought in 1974 was a red 68 chevelle paid 870$

What's the rear wheel setup ? Back spacing? Is the rear end narrowed ?
What kind of wheels?
He means a "solid roller cam", not a "hydraulic solid cam". It's either hydraulic or solid lifters, whether the cam is a "roller" or "flat tappet" cam or not.
I had to see if anyone else caught that and corrected. I wouldn't have slept tonight. Good man

great segment and car.... engine specs please!!

What size tires does he have tucked in there? I’m restoring a 69 el camino and have 275/60’s in the back but his look wider.
Hmm not sure ill ask him when i see him next. Glad you like the video thanks for watching
@@SubdivisionAuto I think I found them they only make one size tire. It’s a BFGoodrich silvertown radial 285/70/15 not a TA radial like in the front. Had to zoom on your video before I noticed the silvertown on them. Lol Nice 68 and very informative video:)

Great episode. What's the name of Bruce's business? I would love to do business with a real car guy.
It’s so old school to see script on the back panel-
Probably around? Nice broad statement
If it wasn’t red, it would be perfect.
GM Performance Parts has a 632 big block that he could put into his Chevelle.
I have yet to see anyone but a 632 in a car biggest is 572 so that would be badass. Ill keep an eye out for someone who has done this.
840HP out of a (solid roller) 540ci is believable, 1100FTlbs of torque tho?
no Turbo or supercharger? that thing would have to have 15:1 compression
ALL DAY with an 86mm turbski spinning 1200HP to turn 1100ftlbs torque numbers.
no brake stands needed! A friend of mine built a (solid roller) 632ci 69 SS Chevelle
990 RWHP! (the best of everything), that only produced 800ftlbs of torque
@ 13:1 on 108+ fuel! it's a beautiful Chevelle, I have a (real barrel tach) 68 SS Chevelle 4spd
with a punched out 10.7:1 496 Stroker putting 620ftlbs to the ground, so I appreciate this car.
but you ain't getting 1100ftlbs torque @ 11:1 compression on pump gas.
So, you basically took a Malibu and re-badged it. Though many people do that, it doesn't make it an SS. Nice car, but it is what it is a Malibu. I had a true 69 SS and never heard of anyone ever referring to any Chevelle as having 3 names. That's a new one.
Right now it’s not really any of these. This would smoke any true 69 SS.
That was supposed to say obseSSed with the SS label but spell check changed it.
Sick car but idk about 850. Maybe in top condition tuned at the fly wheel on spray. In the video at least, looks around 6-650. I drove a pheonix once, had a true 700hp big block and slicks wider and taller than this, and it was white smoking the tires with ease, you didn’t have to sit and bake it on the brakes on like this
@@Ittybitty-o6y yeah it's 840 at the crank more like 700 something at the wheels you are correct. It's pretty fast Does 9.80s in the quarter
@@SubdivisionAuto I don’t doubt that one bit. She’s still a sick car. 9.80 is moving in a large car from the 70s. I still love the build though, very nostalgic
If you sold his car how much would you sell it for
With that setup it's probably worth 60k USD I'd be willing to bet. If not more
900 ft lb!?
Yeah its a beast. It appears in the show again in the american drag race video in action
Thats an awesomne story!
840 HP 1100ftlbs doesn't add up
Was thinking the same
Nope. Does not. Neither does Chevy Chevelle Malibu SS. You either had one or the other. He may have a lot of BS
No such thing as a hydraulic solid cam. He obviously meant roller solid.
You mean solid roller camshaft 😉
1,100 tq? wut?!
Yeah man this thing is wild. Squeezes you into the seat hardcore

Dude, keep you hands off the paint.
Hydrolic solid cam 😂 ok. You mean solid roller
"Around" 840hp "Somewhere around 1100ftlbs of torque"
Where the hell do they come up with these inflated numbers?
This just clickbait?
