    That's not a pro-tip. That's a tip derived from past news stories. Currently, Detroit is coming back. The downtown area is positively vibrant.

    I have lived in MI all my life and would never consider leaving. We don't have hurricanes, tornadoes are usually south of Ann Arbor. The UP is beautiful, parks, great lakes, sand dunes. Housing is still much less than many other states. I have a basement, no dirt floors or walls. That may be in really old homes. Our amazing governor is fixing the roads but that is only a temporary scenario. We don't have toll roads like OH, PA, FL. We still have women's rights! No tax on social security. No place is perfect, bit MI has lots more to offer than most states.

    Basements are nice! I don’t understand why more homes in other areas don’t have them. We had a “bomb shelter” room too. There’s a lot to like with Michigan! Very nice lakes! Beautiful falls! The lack of sun gets oppressive from Nov - April. In west Michigan spring weather doesn’t start until June. Just cold and cloudy. As others mentioned the property taxes are brutal!!! I don’t understand but most people don’t know it. Especially for new purchaser or second home owner, you mentioned lake homes. Car insurance has improved but still very high. Cost of living in general pretty good. This is from 40 years of living here!

    There's more to the history of the Michigan basement, a Michigan basement was a fully equipped living area with an above ground entrance! The Idea was that as the owner could afford it he would build the final home on top of the existing basement! When I had a paper route I had 3 Michigan basement homes on my route and none of them ever built a home on their basement! There were a few others on my route that had been completed though and they are still there today, the unfinished ones were finally filled in after the owners passed!

    • @TRULIVINGMICHIGAN
      @TRULIVINGMICHIGAN  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They built basements without a home above?

    • @living-wellon-less5669
      @living-wellon-less5669 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TRULIVINGMICHIGAN The basement was the home with kitchen, bathroom usually only 1 bedroom but the intent was to build the house at a letter date because people didn't like debt back then! They also needed a lot of housing for the growing auto industry and they could build them quick! There aren't many left that haven't been built on or filled in! I wish I was still there so I could find one to show you! Try to locate an old carpenter from that area and ask him about it or go to Waterford city hall and talk to code enforcement or look at plat maps from the 1960's and at 5840 Croswell Rd. Waterford Twp, Michigan there was one owned by Mrs. Bacon, it has since been filled in and built on but you will find it on a old plat map!

      I was born and raised in the Kalamazoo area. I remember when I was young, back in the 1950's my Aunt and Uncle's first home was a Michigan Basement Home. You have to give this guy some slack for not knowing, he was born and raised in the city (Detroit Area), not really a Michigander.

    • @lhp2a

      It's not "complaining about construction."
      It's complaining about construction on every major east-west corridor between 8 mile and 96 for 10 miles. For multiple years running.
      That is poor planning at best and willfully malicious at worst. That's what you need to understand about Michigan.

    I appreciate your work putting these videos together. I am looking to leave the west coast (Oregon) due to the real estate fiasco that is beyond horrendous. I am considering Michigan and I’m originally from northern Missouri.
    In this video you mentioned mountain lions being a big reason that you moved back. I just had an encounter with one while hiking with my two dogs that has ignited my desire to leave. This experience went okay but easily couldn’t have. I was glad to see you mention it. Do you have an email address that I can reach out to you on? I’m not terribly savvy on TH-cam. I suppose you have a website so will check that.
    Thank you for your work!
