Thank you for your information. We’re possibly looking to buy a small property for investment as a vacation rental/ retirement later years. I’ve noticed that the prices have gone thru the roof since Covid. We plan on coming out again sometime this year to visit. What are your thoughts about Cape Coral?
As an investment, I don't love it. The Cape Coral market has 10 months of inventory and it's continuing to climb. Prices are on the way down there. If you wait until September, it will be a great time to buy the dip. @@Basquegirl28
I lived in Florida for over 50 years, until one night in November I took the dog out at 11pm and the weatherman said it was 90 degrees and the humidity was 100% . That's when I decided it was enough and I decided to move North! I don't regret it. It is like walking around in a sauna!
i'm from Wisconsin and i'm sick of it being below 0 55-70% of the year. scraping snow off my car EVERY morning in the winter while my toes are always cold ,working packing trucks in the cold. , , wearing a sweater and shorts, always getting sick, its cold otw to work back from work , Energy bills through the roof all the houses are crappy insulated badly and build between 1800 and 1899 . Your feet are always cold or swampy from having to dress insulated all the time. del ray here we come! anyone else have anymore ?
I’ve lived in the Tampa Bay Area for almost 20 years, purchased our home in 2015. Our home owners and auto insurance have tripled, every year we get increases. Our property taxes have doubled. I love how you described our area in almost all points but the reality is that our state is degrading and residents are being priced out of paradise. Track home communities are destroying wetlands and the wooded areas, pushing all wildlife out. The community we once had is no longer due to all of the growth you stated.
I agree with everything you say there….here for 40 years. My only concern is why your home taxes has gone up so much. Do you have the homestead exemption on your home? Yes, I get so upset seeing every green space getting cut down…..Asphalt and concrete HOLD heat….no trees for shade and oxygen…what’s wrong with these builders !!
I have lived in Florida my whole life. Beware that it's difficult to get home owners insurance on old mobile homes. I grew up in the Ft. Lauderdale area and moved at age 33. Yes, anyplace near the coasts are a little cooler than the inland areas. I have lived in north Florida for my last almost thirty years. It's a totally different environment. Growing fruits and vegetables is different. As far as hurricanes. Prepare, prepare, prepare. Evacuate if you need to. Or build a strong structure in the center line of the state. Most water is nasty. But I have well water here in North Central Florida and my well hit a spring line. So I have spring water. The water hard water with a high amount of calcium. The salt water coming off the coast will rust your home and car if you live within ten miles of the coast. The environment is hard on everything. If you don't use your air-conditioner with the humidifier, things in your home will mold.
@ahdiex7363sha Well, as I said. Home owners insurance is almost impossible to get for just about any home in Florida these days especially the homes on the coast. If you can get home owners insurance you will pay a lot for it. As for hurricanes. Don't buy a house on Amy coast. Stay to the middle of the state. If you haven't been through a hurricane, they can be dangerous. I have evacuated many times. I have been through many hurricanes. The property taxes and homes here in are expensive. Personally, I live in the country areas because the people in the cities are horrible. Florida used to be a great place to live. Not so much anymore.
@@Carolynfoodforest355 thanks for that , weather wise though is Northern Florida weather reasonable compared to the s. How's the summer temp Thanks alot
@ahdiex7363sha I grew up in southeast Florida. Southeast Florida is hot with virtually no winter except for one or two days a year. Near any of the coasts you do get a breeze of sorts off of the ocean. I have lived in north central Florida, just north of Gainesville Florida for 28 years. I love it it up here. We get a winter of sorts, but no snow. Summer is hell here for July, August and September. Those are the months I hibernate in the air-conditioning. Of course there are tons of natural springs here in the area to go to in the summer were the water is 72 degrees all year long. The nature here in North Florida is beautiful. I have lots of different fruit trees in my yard and right now they are all blooming and smell so good. And with the exception of the really hot months we grow fruits and vegetables all year long. The only thing I don't have right now is chickens. I have always had chickens and they are awesome.
Exactly why I bought in 2013 after coming here for 50 years. Also, exactly why I am looking to move now. So very sad. I always knew I would retire here…..never thought I would move again. They ruined the place. Love the midwestern “ya’alls”.
Newsflash: $400,000 is not affordable for most people. Due to weather events, property insurance is very expensive. With so many moving to Florida, Florida is losing its charm and becoming like everywhere else. Expect to wait in line in many places. Traffic is bad especially with many tourists unfamiliar with where they are going. You will probably need lots of sunscreen every day; and lots of bug spray. As for jobs, many jobs do not pay well; so people have to have extra jobs or work long hours. Florida is beautiful and a great place to visit for many. If you choose to move, you must be able to afford it.
I agree. With the large amount of people moving here rent has gone up up up! I was paying $1,200 a month for a one bed. Now i am paying $1,700 a month. For a person that is living by themselves with one salary it is verrrry hard. Not alot to save.
back in the day when i moved to Florida. Tampa was considered low income area and not that great and I dont understand why people moved their and locals hated living their.
When I had my first house built I lived in a secluded area I make a lot of noise restoring cars I had fire ants and alligators sun bathing on my front lawn Had a family of panthers living under our front door overhang We didn’t bother them and they didn’t bother us Was cool to see the little ones getting bigger The mama didn’t bother us and let her stay there She was grateful Definitely not afraid of us but we didn’t bother her with her babies
So cool. What an experience. I have alligators, of course the snakes but so far just indigos, a family of cats that moved in, wild goats, feral pigs, the occasional cow, many different kinds of birds, turkeys. It's really hot right now, over 90 and it's June 20. We had hotter weather earlier in the spring. Been getting the summer rains. Had to self insure.
Here in Pinellas county, there was a fatal accident on US 19 around 11:00 am. The road was closed until around 5:30 pm. The entire central part of the county was gridlocked. It took forever to get anywhere. This happens about 4 times a year. I've lived in Clearwater by the beach for 66 years now. I was born here. I'm lucky to be retired and not have to drive in this mess to go to work. This place has gotten so crowded now it's insane. Everyone here complains about the population and the traffic. Well, they created this mess.
Well, everyone had the same idea. Let's move to Florida. For me, it's kinda fun to watch now. I've got a boat. I take it out on week days when everyone else is at work. I don't take it out on weekends or holidays. @@Catdumb6969
I am from Los Angeles. I have lived here since September 2021. Traffic here in my area is just as bad as Los Angeles. The reason is because there are fewer roads for the amount of people that are moving here. So you don’t see the number of lanes that you see in LA, but you will be as frustrated if you don’t schedule an extra cushion to your drive time. In regards to wildlife… I am about a mile and a half from the bay. I have seen two black racers in the last two years. My brother lives a little more inland than me and there was an alligator at his pond. Egrets and herons eat snakes. Btw, my food budget, spending budget is more here than in Los Angeles. For every LA $1:$1.25 Tampa Bay. This was 2021 comparison.
We moved down last July from NJ. We're in Polk County, right next door to Tampa. The heat did take some getting used to, but it can be done. What I loved is that we never turned on the heat this past winter. My son wore pants to school one day the entire year. It was shorts the rest of the time. But not having to wear even a light jacket in the winter, while my co-workers were shoveling snow makes up for a little heat. There have been many days so far this summer where it's been hotter back up there than down here. Traffic lights - whoever set up these lights needs to be tarred and feathered. And there's very little straight line connection, you need to make lots of turns on the grid and sit through multiple lights. Roads - So much better than NJ, but just this past weekend, my wife managed to find the 1 pothole, and cracked two rims and blew both tires. It was filled in the next day. Bugs - one trick I brought with me was giving the dragonflies a place to sit, right next to our deck. Dragonflies eat many times their body weight in smaller bugs. We live next to a fairly sizeable pond, but the bamboo stakes we put in the ground near the house attracted plenty of dragonflies, and as a result we had only 1 mosquito bit all last summer. Our neighbors put them up, as well, and our neighborhood has been pretty much bug free. Water - yep, it sucks. 'cold' water is 80+ degrees in summer. We ended up getting an extra ice machine to keep up with family demand. We also have 2 high capacity brita filters which work very well. Schools - not touched on in this video, but Florida has a very open School Choice program. They also have specialized academies within the schools, starting in middle school. Our son is in the aerospace, engineering and robotics academy at his middle school. There are programs for pretty much everything. If college isn't something your kid wants, they can do one of the trade academies, and in most cases graduate with the certifications they need to start working. Floods - we're inland a bit, so floods aren't an issue for the house, but the streets do sometimes get temporarily blocked after a few downpours. We had done a scouting trip the previous year to look for good neighborhoods, and to do things like compare grocery and gas prices. Groceries, compared to NJ, were similar. Some things were more expensive, some less, but the average grocery bill was only a couple dollars less. Gas was about 25 cents more a gallon, but I've seen them swing more than 50 cents a gallon each way in only a matter of weeks down here.
@@atb154don't do that..car insurance is very high and school is horrible.. jobs offer nothing to live here with....no diversity or acceptance of any thing not of Florida..
Really appreciate this video I have seen so many where they clearly want to scare you into moving somewhere else. I just want honesty I think you covered everything really well here
@Oldplace-xc7pb I was born in FL in 1957, was raised there till 1970. My dad was from Polk County. I visit every couple of years, and it breaks my heart. I would not live in today's FL.
As a native South floridian watching outsiders move here like this dude talking about tampa like a heaven on earth not telling you thats a small part of tampa like every other city tampa suckkksss its really old dirty full of crime crazy traffic and expensive as hell just like miami
One thing that I have researched and found to be true is that car insurance in Florida is among the nations highest. Compared to where I live on the West Coast, my rates would double every six months. Thanks for the transparency about that. For us, That’s a real issue in Florida right now. Also, property taxes are higher there than in states like Texas. With all that being said, Florida has amazing natural beauty, a very warm climate, compared to most places in the US and some very fun places to see.
Insurance is a pain in the but because of uninsured drives and cash grab injury lawyers. The state has made some reform and it will take a little while to balance out.
You left out all the wildlife, snakes, alligators, no see 'ums, Mosquitos etc...I lived in Fla. while I loved the beaches and fishing, I didn't like the hurricanes or the flooding just from thunderstorms that often caused us to lose electricity.
Born here, the chemo years ago burned me out up north, freezing all the time...after 25 years Manhattan/6Philadelphia, I moved back. You are right Nov-Mar is great, oh you see people water-skiing by on the river Christmas Days sometimes, Tampa escapes most hurricanes, cranes are phenomenal slow motion walkers, 5 ft tall, ignoring you. Gators wont. Never walk your dog or children along a lakeside or river bank.
See, that gator danger has kept me out of buying in Florida, that & the bugs. I live in New England & winters are tough as I age but I don’t fear any wildlife & bugs are manageable. Lifestyle choices .
If you want to live near the coast I would check on homeowners insurance before you move. I have talked to insurance agents and people are now paying over $1500 a month for a 350-400K home near the coast! And developments are being built up like crazy in Central Florida! You will be waiting to get gas, waiting in trafic, taking back roads adding 3 or 4 miles just to avoid it. A line of 12-15 people at restaurants. Auto insurance rates are also crazy! Look at Georgia or the Carolina's your money will go so much further there! Great Video!
Came across your video bc I’m thinking of moving to Florida. I was hesitant to watch thinking you were going to be biased. Wow was I wrong! lol Thank you for such an informative video. You covered more in this one video than I’ve seen in the last 10 I watched (no exaggeration). I took notes because you mentioned things I forgot about when I visited like the water. That was a big deal for me so thank you! Blessings to you and your lovely family. 🌸
No fire sale and it is far different than 2007/2008. WHY, because condo fees have doubled and tripled, insurance costs have gone through the roof, repairs and reserves on most buildings are out of control so no real estate agents are willing to say that if you think you need $1500 a month then double the money to meet all the other expenses so you actually need $3000. I had no mortgage and I was priced out of my condo just because of the huge increase in condo fees, insurance, repairs, and taxes, huge. Just moved to Europe at 73 years old since USA is out of control.
I don't believe he is minimizing at all. He is being honest and not over dramatizing. Thanks for being straight about it all. I've been coming here since I was a kid and my mother has lived here for a very long time. We have seen it change. We had the benefit of her experience before we chose our place.
The one thing I remember from living in Tampa close to the McDonalds on Busch Blvd was...every year Busch Gardens would send out a coupon to people who lived within a certian area close to Busch Gardens for a free park visit as compensation for having to hear the peoples screams from the rides all day over the past year. Not sure if they still do it. I have been gone over 20 years
I live lot 8 from Busch Gardens. That McDonald's is still there. I never got no free coupon and I purchased years ago. I paid 40k for my house. Today I wouldn't be able to afford a house. My house today is worth 400 all day long.
This video is really informative and unbiased. My last visit was to Tampa Bay. Having my coffee right on the bay every morning watching the dolphins and stìng rays. The possibility of having a bad day 0
It’s hot as heck here during summer, absolutely, but I grew up in Chicago and would take heat over those dark dreary depressing blizzards any day. You go out at sunset during summer instead. It’s just like staying in doors during winter, but with SUN☀️
I understand you like living in Florida, but you haven’t been living here that long. Most Florida natives want to leave due to the cost of living and extreme summers. March and April are hot they aren’t pleasant usually. Hot season runs from April-November usually. Hurricanes are a yearly event they just change impact locations. I moved out after being there for 27 years and I live in Nc now. My car insurance and home owners insurance dropped significantly too.
@@info781 You crazy, NC has mild winter, was stationed at FT. Bragg / Liberty its nice weather of course every state has its hurricane, thats Mother Nature.
I lived and worked in the Tampa Bay region for 10 years. You are right about bad water. I lived in Lakeland, Florida and the water smelled like suffer. There is actual Suffer Plant in the neighboring city, Auburndale, Florida. Every since then I always purchased bottled water.
I lived in Florida 25 yrs and moved back to Ohio in 2006. Do not miss it. Crowded roads, crowded beaches, way to hot and humid, and now way to expensive!
I sold and gave up on my fantasies of a paradise. I moved back to New York State in 2004, where everything is over controlled but that is better than total chaos. I noticed that 25 years ago it was still acceptable for people to get drunk in Florida. Even back then I saw little of this in New York State. People that need to drink should see mental health professionals. It is probably even cheaper in the long run.
@@marknewton6984 The snow is not fun but the corruption in Florida on all levels is something that I never have seen in my life. I really gave that state a good try and it was very hard for me to admit that Florida and its lack of culture, education, transience and all else had to be fled. I thought I could retire there. No way would that be possible. I rebuilt a beautiful condo but then had to be honest with myself. All of that work and time, only to leave it all behind.
So true, back in the 80’s we went to Disney World with children as being off season it was a lot cheaper. It was brutal, the heat was exhausting, if I had to live there year round I’d never survive that heat.
I have to disagree. We come from the pnw (lived there since birthday for 57 yrs). My husband was VERY concerned about the humidity. But since living here for 4 yrs now, he has discovered it's not nearly as bad as people (who have never lived in the south or Florida) made it out to be. We personally feel that being here as you move into the summer months makes a huge difference - you acclimate with the change. It is unfair to fly into Florida from the pnw, or any other cool climate area, in August and call it a fair experience. Hay, at least during the high humidity months when you stay inside more, the sun is shining in through your windows. Way better than 9 months of solid gray overcast skies with varying degrees of rain/drizzle outside your windows. 😟
Well, first of all, thank you so much for your time very well explained I have watched a lot of videos, and this is probably the best so far kinda, really nailed almost every topic lol, with that being said well informed
My aunt moved to Tampa, Florida in the 1990's. I'm sure Tampa was a decent place to live back then, but now its probably not as nice since a bunch of northerners moved there.
Me and my family moved to Tampa 20 years ago from Long Island best move we have made. This was a superb analysis of life here. If you can deal with the 3 months of hot and muggy the rest of the year is off the charts comfortable. Like he said it doesn't go to a 100 here it will rain first. Lol
We have so many uninsured drivers because they rear end each other and think it's OK because they call it no fault insurance, which is a mistake to do. Hit my car and watch how much fault you have, all of it. The name makes it misleading. Homeowners insurance leaving the state is from the roofing companies defrauding the insurance companies. They make the residents believe they are going to get a new roof for free, but they actually sue the insurance companies, which in turn raise rates and companies left the state.
I live in GA. After every hail storm we have roofers knocking on our doors in our neighborhood & the surrounding area. Finally last year we got a new roof after a roofer replaced a neighbors roof from wind & hail damage. He made an assessment & we called our insurance company. We got a new roof after paying the deductible. Held our breath when it was time to renew our policy, but was pleasantly surprised. So far they haven’t dropped us & premiums still good.
Georgia is a real hell hole. That is one state that I've gone to many times and never felt safe there. The stink of sulfur in the water is the least of it. @@lindylou3519
I lived in the 90s. I remember hearing on the radio while I was driving, thousands move to Florida and thousands move out, as well. It's always been a very transitional state.
We don’t have snowfall in the winter we get it extra special we have iguanas falling from the trees on the coldest nights. Please don’t throw them in the trash. They’re not dead. They’re hibernating they’re waiting for that. Good old South Florida sun ,
Super video and lots of help information. I love the fact that he addressed many topics that one might consider taboo about Florida (heat, humidity, rain, bugs, rodents, etc). He addressed these issues in a fair and open way, and I love that. One cute thing that I noticed is the number of times he said "y'all" in this video. At first I found it surprising that a guy from Detroit would say the word "y'all" about every minute and a half, but perhaps he should consider adding to his next "What THEY'RE NOT TELLING YOU About Moving To Florida" videos is that you might start saying "y'all" after living there for just a few years. All the best.
I will never forget or could i describe the smell of red tide. it was so bad that we had to leave the west coast and went to east coast that particular September.
As a lifelong CA resident, I never experience red tide here. But as soon as my brother moved to Tampa 5 years ago, he experienced red tide. Florida sucks. Although I must admit your governor is 100 times better than CA's.
@@trulivingtampa I'm a FL native, have never seen a red tide here on the Atlantic side. I have seen Man 'O Wars seasonally. You have to be careful of these, tentacles can reach up to 60. I've seen children get stung by those that wash up up on the beach even (heads look like a pretty balloon.). I tell visitors always bring vinegar with you to the beach. Best remedy for stings. Crocodiles? Oh yes we have those too! American Saltwater Crocs. These are the big guys, next to alligators. They have almost a celebrity status. Whenever they appear people rush to take pictures. Always best to keep a good distance from these animals.
I moved about 100 miles south of you near (Charlotte Harbor and the Peace River) and oddly when I lived in Michigan I lived about 40 miles north of you in Pontiac. Not much problem with mosquitoes as I live in a small town that sprays for them frequently. I haven't been bitten in the 10 years I've lived here. Have had fire ant bites though, think they are the worst thing about Florida. My car and house insurance has been less than southeast Michigan until last year when my home insurance finally went $120 a year than my Michigan insurance back in 2014. Live in an orange flood zone but have never had one as I am on slightly higher ground than most though that isn't saying much, also have the barrier islands keeping down storm surge. We have one block of potholes in the city and that is between I-75 and a truck stop. Michigan, well way too many. Hurricane Ian went right over us and a good many of our newer neighbors decided Florida wasn't for them and left to go back where they came from. The water is terrible and the sediment in it mucks up faucet and shower heads. Every year loads of it is dumped out of my water softener. Have to wash the outside of the house twice a year to keep the mold off, especially the north side and under the car port, Heat and humidity only bad during the summer and that is about the only time I use the AC. What is bad here is suddenly massive building. This area only has one large road, 41, the rest well, snowbird season makes things difficult but all of sudden new subdivisions, condos and even a way too big resort are being built. Don't need it. Still love living here.
@@tonyn3227 I am north of Tampa and pay $1600 for homeowners insurance. Your daughter must be in a flood zone. That is where I see all of the insurance doubling.
This video confirms my decision to love the one your with, and in my case it’s New Jersey. Weather is weather, and one must adapt accordingly, but since I’ve been in South Jersey all my life I’ve adapted. Property taxes are generally high here, but nothing that’s not seen in New England and now Florida. Why would I leave my birthplace and family for another state.
Depends on your birthplace and family. I'm from FL but became trapped in PA while being a good Samaritan. I'd leave this place and what little family I have for anyplace else on earth (or off Earth).🥴
@@sunshineandwarmth Sorry to hear that. There has to be a way you can return to your home state of Florida. I wish you well. I for one would never leave New Jersey, and anyone, from my wife to my kids knows that. There is no situation or circumstance that would make me decide to leave New Jersey even as a Good Samaritan.
Property taxes - that’s what is most important- in Tampa - $5000 average taxes on a new purchase- can’t go by what the former owner paid because the home was homesteaded for years. Ppl are buying & than shocked between the property taxes, home owners insurance and even Auto Insurance- gotta have a significant income to live here.
I have a one bedroom condo just under 1000sf without a stitch of grass in NJ and my property taxes are over $6000. My sister in NJ pays almost $20k/year for her home. It’s all relative depending on where you come from.
Did you see those houses sitting right in the water? That’s the ones that made the prices of insurance go up so when you buy a house double the price of it at least because tax and insurance cost more in the house 4:40
Emerald coast gets tornadoes as well. Otherwise prepare for bugs galore and sauna feels when enjoying outdoors other than the beach…heck even the beach. Except in winter months, but it’s still only cool in winter in the panhandle. Also, even without state tax, home and car insurance and electricity costs will get you instead.
You are required to have insurance on Florida. However, people make the first month insurance parent to get their plate then don't pay. Unless they get a traffic stop, they don't get caught. They can renew registration also.
although the cost of living in tampa has gone up a lot in the last few years, the reason why you hear people say its "affordable" because when you compare it to other major US metro areas like miami, nyc, san francisco, los angeles, seattle, denver, boston, etc, its still more affordable compared to them. there are definitely some neighborhoods tho where the prices are literally insane like hyde park.
Seriously love your vids. You are one of the only realtors I actually watch on here. Your videos and information are extremely helpful for me, considering I'm trying to move out to that area (area is a little up in the air depending on what company offers me a position, so could be Tampa, St Pete, Clearwater, or Bradenton). The weather there is definitely something I feel I'm going to actually have to experience for myself because I lived in Austin TX for about 6 yrs and during the summers we get a mix of dry heat and subtropical; temps are usually anywhere from 102 - 109 degrees plus 50% - 70% humidity on top of it. Even in the late nights, like 3AM, it's usually still in the mid 80s. The only way I knew how to explain to my friends back north what the heat and wind was like in Austin is, turn your oven to 450 degrees and then open the door and let that heat just SMACK you in the face; that's Austin TX summer right there. I'm a little more concerned with snakes and hurricanes. I've dealt with fire ants (accidently sat on them twice --- was NOT a fun time). I'm not sure how likely it is you'll find a snake chillin' in your home. But any extra feedback about that sort of thing, from anyone really, would be helpful. Right now, I'm mainly looking to rent out there and then after that... we'll see what happens, but snakes and hurricanes --- or maybe not so much getting an actual hurricane, but the effects from nearby hurricanes, such as the flooding. Thanks again for posting all the vids you post. Again, they are EXTREMELY informative, helpful, and in general great content.
Clearwater, Hands down (and yes i'm being bias)! Majority in a No Flood Zone, next door to Dunedin, a couple miles from the Beach, Parks and Bikr trails, PUBLIX, etc.
The snakes are usually black snakes and are harmless. Some live under my house and are very afraid of me. They are fast to head the other way if I see them at all it’s just a flash. No worries.

I Live in N.W. Florida . My Family Moved here in 1816 . In the County of Jackson , Named after Andrew Jackson . Touching Us to the North is Alabama and Touching Us to the East is Georgia . Right in the middle of that Notch . 🐯🤠
Just bought a vacation condo in Delray Beach. I come from New York, and I must say that the people in Florida drive crazy! And no matter who I bring the subject up to agree 1000% with me. Speeders, reckless drivers, in and out of traffic drivers. All I do is try to avoid them. But I still love Florida🤩
I don't believe that the drivers up North are any better but I've not been down there in 20 years which is way before the use of phones while driving. People here are so distracted and few stop at stop signs. Stop signs are not Yield signs. They are starting to put cameras in stop signs but that will take a long time.
Great info, about the water quality that is good to know. Juan, if you get time and think it is helpful can you do a segment on your opinion of which cooling systems are the best where people can enjoy 70 degrees f in the hottest months in Florida. Like split units in each room or central or homes newer than 2010 ect. Thanks for posting.
The traffic lights are INSANE here and hands down the worst drivers I've experienced!! AWESOME video!! I just moved to Orlando 3 years ago and we're thinking about relocating to the Tampa area.
We are looking to move down within two tears. We’ve been looking in Ft Myers, Estero. They are building 10K homes there. I believe it may bring prices down a little. Would Tampa be a better choice?
Great question, Dan. Honestly, anyone who tells you they can predict housing process two years from now is lying. Is Tampa a good long term investment? I believe so, and invest here. Would invest in Cape Coral? Personally, not right now.
My husband brought up moving to Tampa yesterday from the Austin suburbs because it’s crazy hot in summer here. Last year we had 2-3 months of over 100 temps and high humidity. Insane. I’ll consider the burbs but I’m not a city girl anymore.
You have educated yourself in the way of life of Floridians and seem to embrace the culture, the place and Nature. THANK YOU for caring enough to adapt and respect our ways. Yes, Florida is a combination of many different peoples, but one common goal should be to be part of our society to make our state an even better place, respecting our beautiful wild life and environment. Many newcomers want to immediately change our ways, get rid of the wild life because is a nuance and pretend to know better. If everyone coming here would have the same involvement and participation like you have and embrace our place, all would be welcome. We Floridians dislike when newcomers criticize like if they have the right; they have not earned the privilege to do so … I welcome you to our amazing piece of paradise! 🌴🌅😎
Who in the hell do you think you are? I was first flown down to Florida in a propeller plane when I was age 3 in 1958. I often went to the state over my lifetime. You have to live there to know what it is all about. I test drove each season in a luxury building that I owned for 4 years. You're type of nasty superior attitude is another reason that I decided not to get residency, sold and moved back north. I hope more and more people there are getting verbal therapy and psychiatric help. People looking for a geographical cure where I live were always the ones that I was glad left the North. They were the problem but saw everyone else as the problem. I hope you are in at least verbal therapy with someone that does not just agree with you. Check their education and credentials. Florida is the "Land of the Scam" and the land of personality disorders.
Jeez. Do you OWN the state? Should FL wannabes apply to you first to be deemed good enough to move to YOUR little Paradise? Have you cleared your position of Gatekeeper w Gov. DeSantis? Do you have a license and badge? I expect you came there from NY or Cuba, right?😁
@@sunshineandwarmth I test drove Florida over a 4 year period 25 years ago. The people are so lost and the state is corrupt and mean. It is a very sterile environment devoid of culture, sophistication and loaded with financially well off and respected white collar criminals. But they don't see themselves for what they are. Everyone that I befriended over 4 years was very educated, had integrity and actually were classy. They all left the state as I did. I sold a luxury unit in a very upscale area. I just could not take the personality disorders and corruption. chelin7023 is very typical of the personality disorders and disturbed people that are comfortable in Horrida. Don't move there. Learn from my suffering. I hate the state of Florida.
I moved here from Detroit in 2004. I live in Ft. Lauderdale now. I will never go back to Detroit. Even though all my family is still there. My wife visits every year,in July. We left to get away from the cold. I don't have heat in my house. We haven't had a hurricane in 19 years. Went through 6 our first 2 years here.
I Moved To St. Petersburg Florida From Illinois In 1968 As A Teen, I Am 68 Now On The Treasure Coast And Realizing Florida Is Not A Great Place For Seniors Who Are Not Wealthy! Yes, I Do Believe It Is Colder Lately, The Heat Can Be Extreme, But The Hurricanes I Don't Welcome, Still I Can't Live Up In The Cold Weather Again!
Virginia is a beautiful state but the winters are long & dark. I can't wait to go Florida & get some sunshine & don't have to think about wearing pounds of clothes!
Spot on overall ! GREAT analysis!! I've been in Tampa Bay area or very close my whole 58 years. The traffic is wearing on me though. We moved out to "cow pasture" 20 years ago. Now I need to fight ro get out of my street. Awful. Ready to move...a few more years when traffic catches up again and I'll just be a passenger and i wont worry about it. LOLLL Love the WebMD reference. SO true.
We live in Tampa, similar sized home, also 4/2 no pool and our HO insurance just hit $3900. Our only claim in 20 years was a water leak that flooded the dining room and kitchen 8 years ago. I wish our cost was $2500.
Left Florida in 2017 and I lived in Indian Rocks Beach. Sure I miss the beaches and the laid back life style of the beach but it became too expensive. Moved there in 1992 when there weren't Roundabouts 😂
Yeah the airport access is great... even from my location in Zhills - assuming no accidents and not rush hour - I can be parked and walking to the terminal in 50 minutes.
FL is now for the well-to-do. But so are Monaco or Switzerland. These things happen. Areas become expensive for the average person; it happened in many-many places throughout the US before. So you just have to accept and live with it, it's a fact of life. BTW: Things can, and have gone occasionally the other direction also...
Born and raised in Boca Raton, Florida- left when I was 22 years old- I live there in the best time! I love where I live right now and I’m not even tell you where it is because I don’t want people to come here! We’re thinking about buying a second home in Florida … we’ll see! GoD makes the weather not the Earth! That really hit me. I felt sorry for you when you said that.!

Dont forget the Flamingos. If you have never lived in the south, Florida is a huge adjustment! If you live around any water, you will have alligators. We lived on a lake and saw them swimming around in the lake all the time. One reason car insurance is so high because of immigrants that carry no insurance but drive. Two kind of drivers in Florida, 1. The drivers that put the petal to the metal and 2. Slow old people poking along.
Im from Chicago. Lives in Vegas as a casino dealer for years. Unfortunately Ive hit some hard times. I have to move to Ocala, Florida in two weeks to "reset" my life button. Any advice as a 34 year old (not able to buy) male who wants to hopefully make his way into the Tampa area. My goal is to be able to move that way eventually as Ive been offered employment at the Hard rock as a dealer.
If you do come to the Tampa area there are rents that you can get that are under $2,000 a month but not necessarily what you would choose. I work very near the Hard Rock and it's not really such a bad area or anything. In fact Tampa for a large town is generally pretty decent. It has something like 200,000 residents but it swells to well more than that because of people coming in for work from the outer areas.
It is june 1st. The past few days we have broke record heat." Tampa " 97deg hi 80's at night. Hi Power bills. Oh around $300.00 month. Ive only been here 30 years. I think minimum wage is around $13 an hour it goes up $1 an hour every September until it reaches $15 an hour so if you got two kids one adult you're looking at 40 bucks at McDonald's probably home insurance is almost impossible to get especially at an affordable rate I would look into more to the insurance rates before I would look into the house market Market can you car insurance is just as bad it's almost off the chart seriously you need to look into this first😮
I was in Sarasota on vacation last March during red tide, at Siesta Key the smell was awful, then went to downtown Sarasota and it was much worse. Had to head back to the Atlantic coast where it was beautiful.
I live in the Tropics in Florida. The Florida Keys. Even different than some of the things he is talking about……. Flood, wind and home owners insurance. Insurance is no joke……/
Gasparilla went off without a single problem this year so it's just something that occurs anywhere really if somebody has a problem like you're describing

Awesome information about living in Tampa Florida.
This was a great informative Tampa video 👍
It isn't rust in the water, it is IRON. SMH

I lived in Florida for over 50 years, until one night in November I took the dog out at 11pm and the weatherman said it was 90 degrees and the humidity was 100% . That's when I decided it was enough and I decided to move North! I don't regret it. It is like walking around in a sauna!

Same experience in Houston Texas. Oppressive heat 10 months a year, too.
So true…….its uggh…..
We are getting crowded out! Can’t get a doctors appointment for months! The alligators were here before you!

Thanks for sharing your perspective, this is very helpful.

How's PCB, Tallahassee, Tampa hurricanes?
Any other info thanks
How's the summer temp
Thanks alot
Ahhh. I remember the days when the Pinellas beaches were generally a working class community. Those days are gone…
Unfortunately, you’re not wrong.
Agree! I used to drive a school bus in Pinnalas County, from 2003-4.
Exactly why I bought in 2013 after coming here for 50 years. Also, exactly why I am looking to move now. So very sad. I always knew I would retire here…..never thought I would move again. They ruined the place. Love the midwestern “ya’alls”.
@@laurasherman6614 yep. I understand.
Remember the old single family beach houses? All gone. Mom and pop motels? Gone.
This guy is definitely minimizing all the downsides of living here in the state.
I've lived here for forty years, and i'm ready to get out.
back in the day when i moved to Florida. Tampa was considered low income area and not that great and I dont understand why people moved their and locals hated living their.
😊😊
As a GA resident, these are standard issues and gripes here and everywhere else. I stand by his comments.
That was the absolute best explanation of Florida I’ve heard to date. Thank you!!
Thank you!
I've moved to Florida about 3 months now and can't find a job . I'm a truck Driver only thing available is over the road no local work
When I had my first house built I lived in a secluded area I make a lot of noise restoring cars I had fire ants and alligators sun bathing on my front lawn Had a family of panthers living under our front door overhang We didn’t bother them and they didn’t bother us Was cool to see the little ones getting bigger The mama didn’t bother us and let her stay there She was grateful Definitely not afraid of us but we didn’t bother her with her babies
Had to self insure.
you certainly were not in the Tampa City limits
Very nice and natural life you all lived❤.
Same in Palatka up north its crazy how crowded its become
Yes I grew up in Clearwater now I’m in Jersey I hate Jersey but I see Florida being so crowded now but I’m looking to retire in a warm place 🤷🏼♀️

What a fantastic share! Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thank you we are considering great insight ❤
Thank you for the insight. I am considering a move from NJ as well.

@@trulivingtampa Also in part we have tons of horrible drivers to begin with
Car Insurance is very high in Florida because you have many people who do not have car Insurance they cannot afford it.
Property taxes in Texas are horrific. Especially around the Texaplex areas.

Georgia sucks.
It's one big parking lot with buildings, cement, and traffic. The beautiful sounds of traffic and lawn equipment for your listening pleasure.
We always vaca in Indian Rocks Beach. It’s our favorite.

Thank you for the compliment. I try to shoot it straight.

It’s hot as heck here during summer, absolutely, but I grew up in Chicago and would take heat over those dark dreary depressing blizzards any day. You go out at sunset during summer instead. It’s just like staying in doors during winter, but with SUN☀️
And only 3-4 months vs 5-6. 😎

It is probably even cheaper in the long run.
crowded and expensive in 2006? most of tampa's growth has happened in the last 5 or 6 years.
Enjoy the snow😮
@@marknewton6984 The snow is not fun but the corruption in Florida on all levels is something that I never have seen in my life. I really gave that state a good try and it was very hard for me to admit that Florida and its lack of culture, education, transience and all else had to be fled. I thought I could retire there. No way would that be possible. I rebuilt a beautiful condo but then had to be honest with myself. All of that work and time, only to leave it all behind.
If I could afford it I would move to Savannah but like everywhere the cost of homes anywhere near the coast are extremely expensive.
Savannah is a beautiful are too. We visit there every year. It's hotter there than in Tampa, but still awesome. Christmas is a great time to visit.

Insurance and the multiplier attorneys used to get. Glad they changed that law.

We don’t have snowfall in the winter we get it extra special we have iguanas falling from the trees on the coldest nights. Please don’t throw them in the trash. They’re not dead. They’re hibernating they’re waiting for that. Good old South Florida sun ,
LOL 😂😂😂😂 Had that happen to me in Orlando. 100s of small lizards fell from a tree lined walk way, within seconds. Scared the crap out of me! WOW !!
Thank you, Karl. I appreciate y’all 😆
I will never forget or could i describe the smell of red tide. it was so bad that we had to leave the west coast and went to east coast that particular September.
It was terrible. Thank goodness it was not like that last year.
The first 2 years I moved here - Red Tide was here and they said they never had it like that and that long. Oppressive heat as well.
Thanks for sharing.
You have to have big income, to live in florida, its extremely expensive now, just check out insurance and taxes, enough to deter you from moving now.
Nope. My insurance is still pretty low and I just renewed. Dont need a big income to live here.
@@Jaxboy86 you may be rare few then. My daughter insurance went from $2k to $4k per year. No claims ever.

I've been here for 8 years and watched many videos about Florida living. This is the most imformative and truthful I've watched. Thanks
Thank you, John. I appreciate that.
I lived in Carrollwood and had a pond in apartment and saw gators all the time. I was amazed when I saw them in there. Being from KY 😮
Fresh water equals gators. Thanks for watching!
Its all about your ideal lifestyle. If the Garden State is home.. stay. It sounds like you've got it figured out.
@@TheDaon13that was the biggest scam going. Wasted my life in that state of NJ. Taxed out the ass.i was never able to grow.
Excellent video! Very helpful. Thank you!

Insurance is the main issue ...... housing prices now are nuts and people are moving out now at record numbers ...
This is video is very well done. Real, genuine advice and all truth. Well done.
Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad it helped.
Did you see those houses sitting right in the water? That’s the ones that made the prices of insurance go up so when you buy a house double the price of it at least because tax and insurance cost more in the house 4:40
I absolutely loved living downtown St. Pete and theres no beating the food.
You’re spot on about the food!
Absolutely most informative video about way of living in Florida! Thanks
Thank you, Mike. I'm glad it was helpful.
Let’s gooo! Great video!
Thank you, Sir! I appreciate the compliment. 😊
Thank you so much for all the information so helpful for me to make a location decision
You're welcome!
I loved living in Orlando. Made trips out to Tampa at least twice a month. I wish i didn't ever have to move out.
You lost me, when he spoke about uninsured motorist, In VT. liability insurance is require on a motor vehicle just to get then inspected.
Florida doesn't require annual inspections.
You are required to have insurance on Florida. However, people make the first month insurance parent to get their plate then don't pay. Unless they get a traffic stop, they don't get caught. They can renew registration also.
And there are ALOT of freaking uninsured motorists here!!! I hate that about Florida !!!
although the cost of living in tampa has gone up a lot in the last few years, the reason why you hear people say its "affordable" because when you compare it to other major US metro areas like miami, nyc, san francisco, los angeles, seattle, denver, boston, etc, its still more affordable compared to them. there are definitely some neighborhoods tho where the prices are literally insane like hyde park.
Perspective is everything. Thanks for sharing.
What a well articulated and thorough video. Thank you!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
You mention folks moving to Florida, but you need the stats for how many move out of Florida!
Thank you for sharing. And for the compliment.
No worries.
As a former resident of Florida for 26 years and a realtor for most of those years, this gentleman tells what everyone should know when making the decision to move to FL. He tells it like it is. So make your informed decision.

Preach! 😂
I don't believe that the drivers up North are any better but I've not been down there in 20 years which is way before the use of phones while driving. People here are so distracted and few stop at stop signs. Stop signs are not Yield signs. They are starting to put cameras in stop signs but that will take a long time.
Speed limits are high in FL.
@@info781 at least in most drivers minds.
I appreciate this video. Thank you for putting it out.

A normal AC system will handle that all day with no problems.
The traffic lights are INSANE here and hands down the worst drivers I've experienced!! AWESOME video!! I just moved to Orlando 3 years ago and we're thinking about relocating to the Tampa area.
It’s the same in Tampa unfortunately..🤨
Thanks for the feedback!
We have four seasons in Missouri. Sometimes we get akl four on the same day.
It's was like that in Michigan too. 😂
Last summer in Orlando 110 degrees and muggy.
I agree! Thanks for sharing!

Are you trying to prevent us from moving to Del Boca Vista?
Left Florida in 2017 and I lived in Indian Rocks Beach. Sure I miss the beaches and the laid back life style of the beach but it became too expensive. Moved there in 1992 when there weren't Roundabouts 😂
Roundabout are going to be everywhere. The part of the u n agenda 2030 look it up 15 min cities and
Indian Rocks beach is gorgeous.

Thanks for sharing.

Don't do it
FL is getting crowded and more expensive. Not great unless you've connections here.
I lived in Henderson Nevada for fifteen years. Also lived in Chicago suburbs as a kid. I’ve lived in Tampa and do love it!
