Thank you for this..I had the honor of serving him in the private sector after his retirement he was a gentle giant and much more then people know an inspiration again a gentle giant and Amazin later!
I have said previously, and I say this as an Englishman, The General is a true Patriot. He is a warrior in the line of Raleigh and Drake, and of Marlborough, and Wellington together with Nelson and foremost of The Great, Alexander of Macedon. R.I.P.

This was real and upfront; a good speech. MacArthurs speech back in '62 was good and sincere; but rather, and predictably, Melodramatic. Schwarrtkopf put it out plainly and eloquently. Good man!
"I have seen in your eyes a fire determination to get this war job done quickly," he said, hours after the first allied bombers streaked toward Baghdad. "My confidence in you is total, our cause is just. Now you must be the thunder and lightning of Desert Storm."
RIP General Schwarzkopf you are gone but you will never be forgotten You Truly are a great soldier and a great Patriot who ranks up there with Patton,Macarthur,Eisenhower,Bradley God speed General and thank you for your services to our great nation! You remind me of Patton in your War briefings neither you or him would tolerate the questions of idiots. I hope that one day that I will be half as great as you were.
Sadly I was in the class of 91' but I and the military parted ways 3/4 of the way through my junior year. It saddens me to my bones that I did not graduate from this Immaculate institution. 1 regret in life. I am retiring from a somewhat para-military career, but my thoughts still go back to the , the Corps and the Corps.
When you think about it. If this was 91 and he had a 30 year career or so, he easily served in Vietnam and the Gulf. When you think about it those are not all that far apart from one another. Even a 20 year career would be started with Vietnam and Ended with Desert Storm.
God bless the General's Family, and his memory - A True American Hero. I won't pause to say much about the vermin that would attack his name and memory, and their names aren't worth mentioning in a port-a-potty. They just want attention for their worthless lives. RIP, GEN Schwartkopf...
I'm reading the Book of Samuel this evening ...military was very important to defeat Phillistines ...military - all branches - still important for nations ...be behind your troops 👍👊
I agree with mpfalcon6 - I have been trying for years to find out where I can buy the complete video of this speech. I own a VHS of this speech, but it is in really poor condition!
@tjustman Fair enough. In it's day, it was a great speech. Unfortunately, the changes since the speech make it seem slightly dated. Although I did like his universal comments about leadership. In that regard, what he said will be relevant forever.
True: Wars are not won from the air (I didn't say that!). But to say the war was only 100 hours and won from the ground only is not true either. So 1000 hours would be more accurate (also see the book from General Horner).
Just wondering: Were you in the 1st Gulf War? What would have happened if there was no Air Support, No Air war before the ground war started. Would it have been so succesfull? What if the Iraqi Air Force was able to attack the ground forces.... (i think the combination of all forces (land, air, sea) made it so succesfull? Iraqi air defenses smashed, Iraqi forces being bombed around the clock and after that the formidable attack of the ground forces....
Remember this is at the end of the Cold War and desert BDUs were still quite an anomaly. We never saw them on the grounds of West Point ever up to that point. I think he wore them to accentuate his recent experience and reinforce the points of the speech. Later he's seen in his Class As.
Maybe b/c he just arrived from leading troops in theater and didn't have the time to brasso up the old Class A's to standards. Anyway, he seems to have had a lot on his mind, coming out of Desert Storm and the heady negotiations with the Iraqis dealing with the Kurds, not to mention managing the coalition and the world's press. Maybe he wanted to put what extra time he had the night before this momentous occasion working on his speech and thinking about what he really wanted to communicate to the next generation of officers who are currently the field grades and generals today leading U.S. troops all over the world today in 2018, rather than looking like a stiff-shirt, and starched star-studded sychophant.
This was a great speech. I remember it vividly - I was a Firstie - someone had the balls to ask GEN Schwarzkof to get a beer after the speech.
Maybe they should have asked about tactics and took his speech seriously. We lost our two longest wars only 9 years later.
Thank you for this..I had the honor of serving him in the private sector after his retirement he was a gentle giant and much more then people know an inspiration again a gentle giant and Amazin later!
Ladies and Gents, you are looking at one of the greatest military commanders in history. 100 hours. Enough said.
Two Thumbs? This Guy. One of the greats.
Well, in risk of pissing off the entire US military, I'd say that is a bit overstated. But his Gulf war left hook was definitely impressive.
I have said previously, and I say this as an Englishman, The General is a true Patriot. He is a warrior in the line of Raleigh and Drake, and of Marlborough, and Wellington together with Nelson and foremost of The Great, Alexander of Macedon. R.I.P.
Great speech ...always enjoy listening to General Norman S. 🦁

It's an honor witness a great American. A great human being.

WONDERFUL MEN
GOD BLESS YOU
GOD BLESS AMERICA
Such a great man, and leader.
I can't believe this took place over a quarter Century ago
some of those cadets are colonels or generals right now!
He could have made a fine President ...Norman carries himself like a significant world leader ...gives this impression
At his time, it was an unspoken rule that generals stayed out of politics, for reasons modern generals will never understand.
@slartybarfastb3648 thank you ...grateful ...I love Eisenhower ❤️ special general ...smarts, charm, charismatic figure 🇺🇸
RIP Damn Sir, you were right many of us saw combat within 15 years.

Shook his hand. He reciprocated. And got a salute in return.
Who????????????
@@melalgar2343 who what?
RIP ...they say he had great intellect...IQ. ...great leader, great speech giver 😎👍

I was still in the Gulf during the speech, but did my way back to Germany later that month.

RIP
SIR
EL GRAN GENERAL ,QUE ES LEYENDA ,PARA EL MUNDO LIBRE ,Q,E.D. DESDE CHILE MIS RESPETOS .
He was a fighting General...
standing ovation at the start - how do you applaud at the finish?
True leader, a great general!
Washington, Grant, Lee, Pershing, Eisenhower, Patton, MacArthur, Schwarzkopf. Sometimes they actually do put the right general in charge.
Here is your strength 💪 🇺🇸
Fondly remembered from the University of Pittsburgh nuclear Reactor.
General Westmoreland in Vietnam War was one of the Great General in our days !

Was a great military commander of world history
Commit to Liberty 🗽 and Liberty 🕊🦅 will commit, to you ...and Liberty, is all-powerful, eternal, and loving ❤
a great american
I did not know he died.
On December 27th 2012 a couple days past Christmas.
@swesleyc7 100 hours of ground war. Desert Storm started much earlier with the air campaign!

And those "leaders" in attendance lost two wars. Were they listening?
Is this the guy who invented the shampoo?

Respect for your actions in Iraq. Anyhow, the USA / the coalition (the soldiers) did a great job from what i know (and i'm not even from the USA).
Great man 👍👨✈️
He sure is no Patton or Custer
Why is he wearing fatigues in front of cadets ?
Remember this is at the end of the Cold War and desert BDUs were still quite an anomaly. We never saw them on the grounds of West Point ever up to that point. I think he wore them to accentuate his recent experience and reinforce the points of the speech. Later he's seen in his Class As.

Because he could.

4 STAR GENERAL!
when he came on stage the 3 Star Gen didn't salute
cant believe that the 4 star Gen didnt kick his his lousy ass for that
Just what's cost was the best
Anybody notice the meow at 00:58?
Too bad he's not around to run for president...
General Schwarzkopf was the best
Now, our generals wear make up and play make believe. We have fallen.
Patton-esque.
Anything but to his eternal credit.
6:19
He should not have worn the desert BDUs for this speech...
kek
Boring General
Back when the USMA was a real military academy and not a woke joke.
