- GEN Norman Schwartkopf receives a hero's welcome to his alma mater, the United States Military Academy. This is from the official US Army commemorative video made available to cadets (no copyright indicated). Highlights include excerpts from his rousing speech to cadets and his reception in the Cadet Mess Hall. Of all the VIPs to come to West Point - including numerous Presidents, Generals, and Heads of State - this visit was by far the most memorable and rousing.
I met him on a flight from Syracuse to Washington. We spoke for almost 30 minutes. When I told him I was former Navy he spoke in great detail about prior Navy accomplishments. I was impressed. He was super down to earth. Stormin Norman.
I'm not an American but this General is still a great source of inspiration to me. The world needs more men like him.
He needs more men and ladies. We need respect and separate land air sea.
A truly good officer who cared for his men and his country.
He was an incredible man to listen to. I have so much respect for him
The press conferences he did in the 1st gulf war were so impressive, fantastic, awe inspiring. Truly on of the most impressive Americans since WW2. I never got to serve under the man but he was the kind of man for whom you would run through brick walls.
RIP General Schwarzkopf, a true hero.

I'm now reading his autobiography. He is indeed a brave US soldier, leader and best story teller in the world. I really admire him though I'm a Papua New Guinean.

General Schwarzkopf was a combat general in the mold of men like George Patton, Lucian Truscott, and Creighton Abrams. Damn few left.

There dormant in most men. Some so decayed maybe no realistic hope of recovery. But always dormant and a doormat. Waiting.
Our politics are so anti-military that to achieve the top jobs you have to be a sensitive, left wing type wussie focused on political correctness rather than war skills, or the Senate will not accept you. Remembered always as the General who gave the American Military it's pride back and included all it' military in the welcome back victory parade in NYC. A long overdue for certain appointment as a 5 star and receiptant of a special honor for his DUTY- HONOR- COUNTRY service to us all.
