No doubt many people will have an idea of how they think this should be done so the comments section will probably get hectic. Try and be calm with each other - there's enough negativity in the world already and we don't need to fill every comment section on youtube with vomit do we? On another note, with the news this week that MotorTrend is leaving the platform, a lot of people have been asking us - what is the future of MCM on TH-cam? Everything you need to know is right here: mightycarmods.com/blogs/news/who-is-going-to-pay-for-it
Mighty Car Mods long time fan here guys, so much so that I started my own 240z project a little over a year ago when I was inspired by all the projects you were doing. Love the car, can't wait to see what you guys do with it
Mighty Car Mods people will say you start with the "HEAD GASKET?" BUT, I say a car is like a pizza, when you make it for yourself, the ONLY wrong way to build a car is to put on it what you think other people will want. :)
I know this is probably repetetive but I just want to thank you. Thank all of you at Mighty Car Mods. For being who you are and doing what you do. From A to Z. You are a real inspiration for a lot of us all around the globe I dare to say. You brought me to the realms of car culture many years ago. Once again, thank you and stay awesome!
Niels Johansen Why? If they were gonna go with a different manufacturer an Ls is a much better option. More horsepower and torque stock and almost unlimited potential. I think by keeping it all Nissan it’s much more interesting... just an opinion though.
After owning several ZCars a few years ago, I'm really enjoyed their project. One thing I'm finding very interesting is the range of restrictions that other countries put on modifying your cars. I guess I've gotten spoiled living in the States with a very different set of rules. You do have to make sure your mods meet certain certifications but to see Australia jank the whole driveline and leave you with a shell, that's pretty strict. I don't know if the Japanese rules have changed but I remember guys in our Z Club buying Japanese engines that were pulled from cars there when they reached something like 2 years or 100,000 Kilometers or something like that. They used to be imported to the States frequently. You do need to research the varying rules before you spend your money. There could be some really rude surprises otherwise.
yeah mate, my dream car would've been the S30 with an RB25 (RB26's are a lil' too expensive). btw, love your vids mate, been following you for a long ass time now :)

@@andresgarcia3516 they said L series as in the L28 that is in fact a 2.8L inline 6 cylinder engine. they are a power house and put down some serious power. I know because my friend owns a '82 Datsun 280ZX and it has the exact same engine.
This engine is RB26DETT, which stands for: RB-Nissan Factory Code, rumored to mean "Race Bred", -2.6L, D-Double overhead camshaft, E-electronic injection, TT-Twin Turbo
you link actually does not explain the RB - but I agree that "Race Bred" would be too English for a Japanese product. Gasoline is "ガソリン" (Gasorin), so Benzine is probably wrong- Diesel is ディーゼル (Dizeru) so could fit. The "R" could just stand for "Row", or it was free letter in the latin alphabet
Could listen to him talk about engines for hours, love the Skid Factory concept. Would be cool to have a sort of mini series with Turbo Yoda just talking about iconic engines (RB, JZ, SR and whatnot); their strengths and weaknesses, tuning routes etc.

Hey guys hope you read this comment - just wanting to show my appreciation for all the videos you guys have made over he last ten years. In particular to Moog I feel like I’ve sensed a bit of a hard edge to some of the comments you have made in some of the last videos where you may have not been enjoying it as much lately and becoming jaded. Hope that’s not the case!
Just floored at the cool builds you keep putting out there. As someone who doesn't have a lot of money to buy different cars, do different builds, etc, it's amazing to live vicariously through these wonderful projects. You get to be emotionally invested in a car you love, but might not ever be able to own. Thanks so much for your hard work guys and keep it up. To answer the question:『RB26DETT』という名称は、Response Balance 2600cc DOHC Electronic Twin Turboの英字の頭文字をとった言葉である。 Translation: The English initials of RB26DETT are an abbreviation of Response Balance 2600cc DOHC Electronic Twin turbo.
The new Alfa Romeo Stelvio also uses a similar setup, except the diff isn't part of the sump, but the front left axle shaft passes through a hollow cavity in the sump.
Benjamin Hale here's the interesting bit - when Ford launched the Sierra here, there was already a kit car manufacturer called Dutton using the name for their car. Ended up going to court.
I hope you read all of our comments so that you realise just how much support you guys have; I've had my say on your Blog. We will do anything to keep MCM alive!!
"The only better option, is the option that you're reading right now in the TH-cam comments" LMAO so true. Everyone and their grandpas think they can do better.
This is really exciting. I'm starting my 260z swap in a couple weeks. Got a lemon via bring a trailer auction. Glad to see I'm not the only one going through this.
its so cool to have this build! you guys have advanced so much in your years ive been here! (one of the original subs here) too bad you dont make so many tutorials anymore, its just builds but i love them too, but i wish you would make diy videos again! (yeah i know you made the roller diy mod but i want car mods :D)
Yeah & be careful, those light in the engine are hell expensive to replace. ps Love what you guys are doing to the old girl. Lover of old rusty Datsun! :)
This build Series is going to be lit af, although it would've been nice to hear that old carbureted Inline 6 roar but nonetheless RB swap is best option in my eyes
I was down at the scrap yard the other day and I bought a srt10 viper motor for $400 bucks out of rear ended wreaked srt10 ram truck and putting it in a 240sx drift car but this video reminds me of the time lifting the hood of the car a nothing in there is A frightening feeling but now putting a 700HP twin turbo v10 in there makes me feel better . Thats what I wish you guys did putting some thing crazy in the 280z but GTR RB26 will be good too love it .
Hey guys, I've got a 240z and I've got a few words of advice that will better the build. 1. Seam weld the engine bay, which it's probably too late for you guys lol 2. Get some industrial expanding foam and fill the body cavities, all the body areas around the cabin are all hollow and you will feel it when you put anymore than the 150hp it was built for 3. An early 2000s sti limited slip diff will bolt right in with a drive shaft adaptor 4. Add more structural rigidity or else you will regret it 5. Por 15 everything you can! Holy cow I lie awake at night thinking about the rust that forms on my z Keep it up boys, cheers
That is the only engine supposed to go in there, great choice! I'm just a bit disappointed that you are going to get rid of the individual throttle bodies. For a turbocharged car, it will probably not make a lot of difference to the performance, but the induction noise will not be as good and the cool-factor definitively suffers ;-)
iamawatermelon Yes, but the current ones would need to be reconfigured with a stand-alone ECU. I'm not sure how involved that is, so it might be simpler to source aftermarket ITBs such as Jenveys
Well if they got that Rotsun running again..now if they are smart they will remove that Ford motor and swap in a LS1 Supercharged and if they did that this 240z would get completely destroyed anywhere except tight cornering.
Benjamin Hale nah, it would actually corner better with an ls, it's a lighter, shorter engine. So it can be mounted far back, better weight distribution. Am rb is a long heavy engine
I took a year off from the show because I could not afford a car. Now that my car fund has come to life, this is a hell of a thing to find upon my return. Turbo Yoda forever!
Mighty Car Mods just read the whole article very well written I completely understand why roadkill pulled their show it doesn’t change the fact that it was supposed to be a TH-cam show and now they’re making us pay for something they always promised would be free the show was always about budget if I really want to see a serious build I would just go to MotorTrend OnDemand but roadkill supposed be extremely cheap like go pros and $1000 car cheap not like the general mayhem with an engine out of a hellcat that’s ridiculous And not what we wanted to see it’s very cool but I rather see them get a POS Datsun truck strap a eBay turbo and see if they can hit 11’s safety with y’all you don’t need to do crazy stuff just keep it simple most of us can’t even afford it so it’s really cool seeing it done and I’ve been watching your videos for as long as I can remember even before I had a licenseDoing mods to my moms car out front of our house and starting the car and reving it in the driveways but just remember where you came from keep it cheap that’s what we like to see don’t get me wrong you submit some beautiful videos you’re music is always on point and your cars are awesome Thank you for all the videos you’ve uploaded every time you’ve spent your whole night editing don’t ever think I don’t respect that thank you for everything y’all do but when it comes down to crazy builds and less you guys are super down to do it you don’t have to watch pretty much anything y’all up load we like your personality not just the cars
And keep in mind the only reason I started my TH-cam channel it’s because of people like you giving basic instructions but keeping it fun I think that’s why everybody modifies the car just to have fun why they do it!
Throwback mom's driveway video...? just saying! Great show, great guys and a great ethos. You guys are keeping youtube great, in my opinion, and has so much respect for what you are doing. Great article on the roadkill situation, very MCM style but informative. Keep it up! edit: just read the article (mightycarmods.com/blogs/news/21-reasons-why-we-don-t-film-on-the-driveway) ... forget about the throwback!
OYASUMI 974 not really.. but han from fast and furious put a rb26 na with itbs in his 240z so I guess it's been done lots of times with different engines
When you mentioned asbestos regulations I started thinking of all the parts on the car that used to have the asbestos warning on them, clutches, brakes...gaskets...mufflers... resonators 😖. This build is going to be awesome. Turbo yoda has a crazy amount of knowledge. I love his approach, "yeah, prolly have to move these mounts here, change the throttle, induction, fueling, exhaust, awd to rwd, retro mod an oil pan, make a custom sump, rebuild the coolant system, make a new oil cooling system... yeah I reckon that should do"
Oh right learn something new everyday suppose I thought it was an sr20 based on the fact that it was in an s15 never imagined there would've been an engine swap haha
May i suggest "When mechanics go crazy" videos? TH-cam has PLENTY of wild swaps right down to hyabusa engines in smart cars. I Believe you will enjoy it.
If you look at the early Mercedes 4Matic system, the front suspension is pretty hilarious. The front axles go through the suspension spring itself which is a custom shaped spring to go around the axle i.imgur.com/x4k3Ikm.jpg
It's a matter of taste, nothing wrong with fitting newer engine and driveline to old car. Old cars DO look a LOT better and you get to work on your car, fabricate things to your liking and have fun! I personally like old tech, its easy to work on and modify as it's less complicated but of course it has a lot less potential to make power and torgue. It also has nostalgic feel to work on old tech. It also seems that at Australia there are not as strict rules for modifying your car as there are in Finland where I live so you can really get creative. Thumbs up, waiting for next episode!
No doubt many people will have an idea of how they think this should be done so the comments section will probably get hectic. Try and be calm with each other - there's enough negativity in the world already and we don't need to fill every comment section on youtube with vomit do we? BUT, I say a car is like a pizza, when you make it for yourself, the ONLY wrong way to build a car is to put on it what you think other people will want. :)
If you guys don't figure out a way to go head to head in this with roadkill's rotsun that'd be a big opportunity lost
Turbo yoda explaining engine stuff is so calm and lovely. Imagine him as your instructor
This is definitely the most exciting build you guys have done, perfect engine choice staying with a Nissan straight 6 too!
Aye! If there ever was a marriage of engines out of unfortunate circumstances, then this one has to be the best of it.
RB26
It’s up there with the Mod Max build for sure
Love how Al instantly goes along with Moog on the Ibeza light concept.

‘Migty Car Mods’ hahahaha
ronan Dammit, thank you, Ill correct that
You're so right. They are just amazing guys and they are my heroes
The Theeser well said
From A to specially Z because that s30 is sick
RD - Reihe Diesel
RB - Reihe Benzin
Reihe is German for inline engine.
Love your projekt!
oh interesting
Genau. That's what I was thinking after watching the vid too
had a rd22DET once. Blowed it up by raising the Ladedruck (boost) to much... But it was gloryous between raising and blowing.
here i was thinking it stood for Race Bred ;)
Source? I think that might just be ein Zufall, I can't think of why a Japanese manufacturer would use German for a naming convention
Absolutely loved Turbo Yoda's explanation and insight in this video and his voice is so damn relaxing!
TURBO YODAAAAA!
Look at that! With joda theres no issues, "just have to move this mount".
I think you mistyped God..
They should 2JZ swap it

P. Cookie and begging for, in my case anyway

yeah mate, my dream car would've been the S30 with an RB25 (RB26's are a lil' too expensive).

They pull 180 on ya stock lol
Tech Showdown don’t forget about the LW or Rocket Bunny kit
Joshua Tobias pass on both those lol
YESSS! This is gonna be my favorite build yet, I absolutely LOVE 240Z, I dream about owning one :)
some of us can only dream :(
Japan is where you need to take yourself.
Be prepared for replacing asbestos..
I wrote off my 260Z ☹️
Richard George F
Richard George F as well.
I live in Japan and in my travels I've seen a half a dozen 240Zs rusting in paddocks. I'm not a particular 240Z fan but even I thought it was sad each time I see one like that.
Those poor cars.
I was so sad you lost the engine til I found out you had a gtr engine and now I am excited for your best car yet
Andrew Vancil they should put the rb engine in the skyline from skid factory and put the twin turbo ls engine in the 240z
You've made me proud. Not only are you respecting the car, you're keeping it in the family and trying to preserve it's character. This is why I trusted you from the start when we first saw it.
240Z with a modded rb26, aaahhhh so much LOVE for this car guys
Sad to see the L motor get thrown away but it is what it is. At least it will be a proper RB build 👌👌👌
CZeroMedia I as a Truck guy I have a truck with a L motor and a RB26DETT
didnt expect to see you here!

Arin B. I mean to be fair it’s pretty much the only logical engine swap you can really do with 240/260z’s
if D in RD stands for diesel then B in RB stands for benzin, makes perfect sense, well in my language anyway
This engine is RB26DETT, which stands for: RB-Nissan Factory Code, rumored to mean "Race Bred", -2.6L, D-Double overhead camshaft, E-electronic injection, TT-Twin Turbo

Ford used a similar diff-in-front-sump design for the 4x4 Sierra and Granada.
InitialDave in the US the Granada was an entirely different vehicle, also the Maverick. It's odd how they recycled the names out there.
You got our Granada as the Merkur Scorpio. Weird, huh?
The new Alfa Romeo Stelvio also uses a similar setup, except the diff isn't part of the sump, but the front left axle shaft passes through a hollow cavity in the sump.
The Sierra is a GMC truck in the US.
Benjamin Hale here's the interesting bit - when Ford launched the Sierra here, there was already a kit car manufacturer called Dutton using the name for their car. Ended up going to court.
The ceo of Nissan told me RB stands for "really badass." ...Ok, ok, ...but it fits
The only thing about Roadkill and MCM im thinking right now is a battle with Rotsun and 240z GT-R. Too bad this is a very hard thing to happen 😞
240-R?
I hope you read all of our comments so that you realise just how much support you guys have; I've had my say on your Blog. We will do anything to keep MCM alive!!
i thought I was going to sleep. mcm proved me wrong yet again
Turbo Yoda pointing with a crowbar made me look wherever he was pointing. He wasn't even trying. A true master
"The only better option, is the option that you're reading right now in the TH-cam comments" LMAO so true. Everyone and their grandpas think they can do better.
Hartbreak1 AND the irony is that they've never built anything in their lives except a 'STICKY SOCK' collection in their parents basement!-0 😁😀👁
Like a Crate LS-5?
SprayIgniteBoom haha yeah the internet is a marvelous thing, everyone is a mechanic, welder, metal fabricator and engineer in their spare time.
I'm really happy with your guys' choice to use a RB26, most youtubers would just do a V8 and I'm SO glad you guys' aren't.
As they were saying that they need a new engine I was chanting RB. RB. RB. RB. Then it was an rb and I just about shat myself. Good choice fellas
I had the same thing going on. It's like the only swap I'd consider for this car. Rb25 would have even been ok to me, but glad for the 26.
I just kept repeating rb26dett. Lol
Nope, I really thought and hoped it would get a rotary
Myles Burgess dude I was thinking the same
LS swap?
Last time i was this early, you guys were putting hubcaps on a red Daihatsu.
Looks like bedtime can wait... 😳
bring on the insomnia...
3 am Denver 👍
waited until morning and start the day with MCM and breakfast :)
The fantasmagron everyone has been waiting for. 😎
This is really exciting. I'm starting my 260z swap in a couple weeks. Got a lemon via bring a trailer auction. Glad to see I'm not the only one going through this.
its so cool to have this build! you guys have advanced so much in your years ive been here! (one of the original subs here)
too bad you dont make so many tutorials anymore, its just builds but i love them too, but i wish you would make diy videos again! (yeah i know you made the roller diy mod but i want car mods :D)
That light unscrews with a 1/4 turn, and pulls out, so you can look around the engine. Getting the wires back in sucks!
Yeah & be careful, those light in the engine are hell expensive to replace. ps Love what you guys are doing to the old girl. Lover of old rusty Datsun! :)
Yeah, that's a mistake you only make once. Directly after, you put a flashlight in the glove box.
Can't get over how much I love this channel 😶😶😶
It’s Al and Benny!! Yey!!
I watch Skid Factory and BCW religiously.
I am excited to see this series. So good that I’ve been saving it!!
TurboYoda is too Hollywood for you guys now that he has his own show 😂😂
He has his own show?
projectdoomsdayofficial the skid factory on the mcm2 channel
This guys week has just been made if he hasnt found Skid Factory yet haha
I found the show yesterday and binge watched the Fairlane build. You can tell Turbo Yoda isn't shy of a camera anymore.
It feels like turbo Yoda has to dumb everything down for us. So much wisdom.
This build Series is going to be lit af, although it would've been nice to hear that old carbureted Inline 6 roar but nonetheless RB swap is best option in my eyes
well there are 1 more option 1jz
Sandza Blasphemy
Id go n/a rb20 with itbs but this works too
Drey Goss whatever they picked would be the "best in your eyes" since you're a follower that can't make independent choices
Skullinhand Underground damn a v10 for 400$ that’s a steal
The right place at the right time the transmission was badly damaged it cost me more than $2500 to fix but still a deal .
imagine them putting a srt10 twin turbo v10 in the 280z🏎
Hey guys, I've got a 240z and I've got a few words of advice that will better the build.
1. Seam weld the engine bay, which it's probably too late for you guys lol
2. Get some industrial expanding foam and fill the body cavities, all the body areas around the cabin are all hollow and you will feel it when you put anymore than the 150hp it was built for
3. An early 2000s sti limited slip diff will bolt right in with a drive shaft adaptor
4. Add more structural rigidity or else you will regret it
5. Por 15 everything you can! Holy cow I lie awake at night thinking about the rust that forms on my z
Keep it up boys, cheers
haha I guessed it, now all you need to do is stroke it to 2.8 L and you'll fully sick hectic. and have one of the nicest sounding engines ever made.
Both you guys and B is for Buld building a 240z!? This is going to be an awesome few weeks/months.
I was so hoping that this would happen, really stoked for you guys! Can't wait to see it all finished up
10:22 "Bring on the party, Martin!" or maybe even "Bring on the party Martin!" is one of the best: I don't even know what that means.
Would be pretty cool if you left the RB26 N/A and put some ITBs on it for the first little while, purely for the exhaust note
X7Rotary pretty sure already been done
It already has itbs
iamawatermelon Yes, but the current ones would need to be reconfigured with a stand-alone ECU. I'm not sure how involved that is, so it might be simpler to source aftermarket ITBs such as Jenveys
I’m too purist to do that if I had an RB26.
rb26DE (NA) exists, youd think a purist would know that.
U need to race this one against the!!!! Ratsun!!! Roadkill
Daniel 1999 even if they did we would never see it... Roadkill is no longer in youtube
Nnnooooooooooooooooppoo
Daniel 1999 yyeeeeeeeeppoo
Well if they got that Rotsun running again..now if they are smart they will remove that Ford motor and swap in a LS1 Supercharged and if they did that this 240z would get completely destroyed anywhere except tight cornering.
Benjamin Hale nah, it would actually corner better with an ls, it's a lighter, shorter engine. So it can be mounted far back, better weight distribution. Am rb is a long heavy engine
I took a year off from the show because I could not afford a car. Now that my car fund has come to life, this is a hell of a thing to find upon my return. Turbo Yoda forever!
The RB in RB26 apparently stands for Response Balance.
Response Balance 2600 c DOHC Electronic Twin Turbo
RB is 🅱️etrol
It makes sense in german. Petrol= Benzin.
@@jsplit9716 turkish too petrol = benzin
if you dont call it ZT-R i will be mad. and not the aussie mad.
We aussies say would say it ZdTR
This is the most excited I have been about a MCM video for a very very long time.
Mighty Car Mods just read the whole article very well written I completely understand why roadkill pulled their show it doesn’t change the fact that it was supposed to be a TH-cam show and now they’re making us pay for something they always promised would be free the show was always about budget if I really want to see a serious build I would just go to MotorTrend OnDemand but roadkill supposed be extremely cheap like go pros and $1000 car cheap not like the general mayhem with an engine out of a hellcat that’s ridiculous And not what we wanted to see it’s very cool but I rather see them get a POS Datsun truck strap a eBay turbo and see if they can hit 11’s safety with y’all you don’t need to do crazy stuff just keep it simple most of us can’t even afford it so it’s really cool seeing it done and I’ve been watching your videos for as long as I can remember even before I had a licenseDoing mods to my moms car out front of our house and starting the car and reving it in the driveways but just remember where you came from keep it cheap that’s what we like to see don’t get me wrong you submit some beautiful videos you’re music is always on point and your cars are awesome
Thank you for all the videos you’ve uploaded every time you’ve spent your whole night editing don’t ever think I don’t respect that thank you for everything y’all do but when it comes down to crazy builds and less you guys are super down to do it you don’t have to watch pretty much anything y’all up load we like your personality not just the cars
Hands down most exiting build! :D (is it a thing to detune an engine from turbo to n/a? to keep it driver focused and not a speed demon thing)
OYASUMI 974 not really.. but han from fast and furious put a rb26 na with itbs in his 240z so I guess it's been done lots of times with different engines
Jesse Arends yeah the fuguz
You can pull the turbo off one, but typically a factory turbo engine will be lower compression which would make for a low power and lazy n/a engine.
When you mentioned asbestos regulations I started thinking of all the parts on the car that used to have the asbestos warning on them, clutches, brakes...gaskets...mufflers... resonators 😖. This build is going to be awesome. Turbo yoda has a crazy amount of knowledge. I love his approach, "yeah, prolly have to move these mounts here, change the throttle, induction, fueling, exhaust, awd to rwd, retro mod an oil pan, make a custom sump, rebuild the coolant system, make a new oil cooling system... yeah I reckon that should do"
18:31 That music & the RB reminds me of that Tokyo Drift scene where they put the RB in the Mustang 😀
anotherone10 was that not an sr20 correct me if I'm wrong
It was an RB26
Oh right learn something new everyday suppose I thought it was an sr20 based on the fact that it was in an s15 never imagined there would've been an engine swap haha
May i suggest "When mechanics go crazy" videos? TH-cam has PLENTY of wild swaps right down to hyabusa engines in smart cars. I Believe you will enjoy it.
Must check it out thanks man!
I'm in the process of getting a 260z back on the road.
Tyler Andrews nice bro hope it can make to the road quickly, I'm trying to get my 280z on the road as well.
I like the black and white color scheme.
I am kind off sad that the stock engine was not able to stay in there. But I am so happy that you are going to be putting the rb in there! Good luck!
This is gonna be so sweet! I love it already! You're keeping the wheels, right? They look perfect for that car!
Agreed. The paint, body kit, and wheels are perfect together.
e30 325ix was awd. It was also a pretty complicated system.
NoiseBomb My bullshit meter went off immediately, found this comment and educated myself, thanks.
your welcome
The awd systems tend to go out in those though. You are way better off getting rwd.
especially the rear diff makes problems. But you can switch these for the 25% LSD from tho 325i.
If you look at the early Mercedes 4Matic system, the front suspension is pretty hilarious. The front axles go through the suspension spring itself which is a custom shaped spring to go around the axle i.imgur.com/x4k3Ikm.jpg
Once you guys revealed the Fairlady had no engine. I thought to myself why isn't this car in Alan's garage.
