MCM is my favorite car show too but bruh the most well produced car show on youtube is MotorTrend but they do have a huge budget some great film crews & editors too.
Yeah, you know these guys aren't attuned to the drag scene. No one really into drag racing is going to post that they have a 10 sec. car if they posted a 9.979!
I have watched this soo many times, by far my favourite TH-camrs, I started watching you guys back in 2013 from hospital, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma, I was 11 at the time and spent a lot of time waiting in waiting rooms and hospital beds, I spent most of my time watching your videos and playing the original forza horizon, now 6 years later I just finished my Pre-apprenticeship in light vehicle automotive repair, I travelled 4 hours on the train each way but watching your videos made it feel like a 5 minute train ride. I get my license in 2 weeks and I can't wait to start with cheap, easy mods like you guys did back in the days, from the blue terd and the trd lazer to a 9 second Cresta, its weird, in some ways I feel like a proud dad watching you grow but also like your younger brother who helped me find my passion for cars, either way, I really hope to meet you guys one day.
This is the happiest any car build has ever made me feel. I reckon she's still got more in there. I want to see out takes of this! What suspension went in, what problems you faced, corner balancing, troubleshooting, all the technical tomfoolery that goes into a build like this. You make it look so easy, people don't realize the amount of research and parts hunting it takes to find just the right parts, tools, lines, fittings, bushings, gaskets, bolts, belts, and the million other parts to the puzzle. And how one small thing can mean months of delay to get it all to work together. Absolutely loving this.
oh it has more in it, with all those performance parts in there, all they need to do some ecm tweaking and the like and they may even get it into the low 9's, this car can compete with a lot of semi-pro drag racers i feel, that poor camaro ss didnt have a chance in hell lol, i could have told them that camaro wasnt that fast
Can I just say, I am so glad you guys did a Barra. This to me is a proper send off for possibly the best motor to ever come out of Australia. You guys seriously don't stop to impress me with all of the different cultures you tap into, and it's such a relief you're not doing another JZ swap like so many other channels on youtube. Many props to you Marty & Moog, keep killing it.
I had one $350 from a 70yr old woman I was the 2nd owner lol ... I was 17 at the time didn’t know what I had sold it $1500 few weeks after I had it got a 300zx
This was also 16yrs ago they cool cars just don’t see the big Hype over them Big slow car..... I understand the History I6 rwd But they ain’t no $3-$5000 car I see every one selling them for
Im an American, those Aussie 4.0 I6 Turbo motors have always fascinated me. I am super glad it was not just another LS or 1J/2J swap. Hate Transformers, love this show.
Running 9's is impressive. Doing it in a sedan with only 4 liters of displacement is even more impressive. Great job, I hope you release an extended cut!
9s isn't even as fast as a Barra could push that little car. They've gone for the safest build they could without going all out and building themselves something like PSI JNKI
remember they also did it in just a couple days so the fact that it didn't break is amazing.. not too mention that they never back purge their stainless which makes it super weak
Hey! MCM. After binging all of these 30+ minute docs, I just want to thank you for doing them with charm and class. I love the multiple part videos you are currently doing as you put a lot of meat and veg into them to make it worth it, but these complete build videos are so satisfying to watch! I have always loved cars but never have I considered a project like this. But seeing how much fun you can have with it is really inspiring and when the time comes that I can afford something like this, I am going to ask my friends to help out and just enjoy the process instead of focusing on a perfect final product. Cheers from Canada boys and I can't wait to see what you do next!
@slam zamillion they arent exactly the same according to toyota no, but they do share the same chassis as they mention in the video. It appears to be the same chassis now i could be wrong but it is as if one is economy, one is luxury, one is performance

Beefalo Bart, any videos of it running in the 8s? Ive not seen it since this video 1st posted. Revisiting for someone interested in a Barra swap. Wish we had more over here in the U.S
Will Spicer more? Are you aware of even one here? There’s just no ancillary support here for the barra and parts and shipping would be huge. Shame really because I love the uniqueness and would run one myself if I thought it wouldn’t knock me out financially lol
I'm guessing it's because the Transformers guys paid them to make one video. Same thing we've seen in the past with Miss Daisy, sponsored by Subway. If it was a normal series it would have been more episodes, and there would have been more problems and less mountains of parts given to them free.
This is probably one of the most pure, real JDM projects I've ever seen. No excessively expensive GTRs or Supras, but old school Japanese cars that are only converted for fun/race and without glittering paint or useless spoilers. You are not only the fastest but also the most pure. By the way here in the Netherlands it's 1 a clock, but that's not important now.
I have watched this so many times I have lost count... it still gives me feels on that 3..2..1.. with a 9 second pass. I can not wait for the day you guys can all get together and do another special again like this. Thanks for all the hard work
Silent Bob although there isn't much correlation between the car and the film, naming it Choptimus Prime stayed within the theme of naming all the cars they build, whilst linking with the film. That was my thought process
Initially downvoted, Transformers is just that lame thanks to michael bay. But then the car is just sooo cool, and they made the video about the 80's transformers. So take that thumb up and transformers money, you're the best, MCM.
Am I the only one who gets super happy on the inside when moog plays the intercoolers like a beautiful harp? Hopefully we'll get an awesome guitar solo on the next one
I think these are required for them to even access the drag strip. But they are removable. So remove those and you get a nice sleeper :P EDIT: The rollcage is required, not the radials. Its for safety.
Easily $50k+ of new parts. However we don't know how much they got all the parts, materials, and block for. Definitely a Transformers sponsorship plus maybe a ton of free parts. No to mention all that tasty labor.
Honestly, for touching the 9"s, if you only spent $50k then you did really well. That is mind blowing amounts of torque. Is Barra swap the next LS swap? I've got an E30 with an engine that's about to go... Wheels are spinning.
I'd LOVE to see a 2 hour directors cut sorta thing, where we see everything in more detail. Usually this would be done in 10 episodes but all in one? Amazing but we want MOREEEE
Can we just appreciate for a second that Moog makes the background music for these videos. Neon Lights is an absolutely amazing track and I am totally in love with it :)
Don't normally comment on videos but this was absolutely epic. Been following the channel from video one and they just keep getting better and better. I think this has to be the best produced, best made, best content that I have seen from you guys. Mighty work boys don't ever stop.
I was so hoping for a 2JZ. When they did the engine reveal I was disappointed for about 15 seconds till I realized this is a modern inline 6 Ford?! We don't have these in the states and I love inline 6 engines, so this was a treat to see.
And as always an amazing video. The work on the car, the Music as always by Moog and the story telling, editing, filming all perfection. Thanks guys for always creating inspiring work like this.
Fullthrottle Auto ditto, yet another masterpiece from the mcm boys! I never knew MOOG made all the music, I've since been to the play store and downloaded EVERYTHING :)
This film was f***ing epic guys! The car, the editing, and especially the music. Seeing your old tricks such as Benny pulling off the bumper and Moog playing the Harpicooler was hilarious and so so cool. You guys are freaking awesome!!
I don't normally sit through car videos this long on TH-cam but this channel is an exception! What a fantastic car and the documentary of it from the sourcing in Japan to the engine work to the music is just perfection! I've liked and subscribed! Good work mates!
geromeskeez it was a wild guess though hahaha, i just supposed all those custom parts would be rather expensive, such as the tranny and adapter, custom driveshaft etc... ☺
geromeskeez I guess you haven't priced a full house 9" and T400, that's like $6k at least just there. Over $2500 on intake and exhaust manifolds, $2k for complete turbo, etc adds up quick.
This video is so full of heart! this kind of content can't be bought, just made by those with pure passion for what they do. We all appreciate you guys so much. P.S. Moog, your music is so amazing, you must not sleep to produce such perfect music and make these videos!
So true! A real show of character, even tough it's "just" the fact that they don't "clickbait". These things are rare, if not almost impossible to see these days. The only way to show them that we appreciate it is just buy a fucking sticker at least.
I don't know how you guys do it, but every video is full of emotion and it just keeps me coming back. Mighty Car Mods is so much more than a car channel, whether or not that was the intent, you guys, the music, the narration, the cars, the editing, it all feels so pure, and its just something special. I hope one day I can do something this exciting/fulfilling with my life. Love the channel keep up the great work! Thanks guys, cheers!
Not sure what's the most exciting part. The fact you are showing the rest of the world how good the falcon turbo 6 is. The fact we finally seen a bike in a video. Or all those Aeroflow fittings in one video.
6door 6four well they stopped manufacturing them this year so I suspect a lot of older blocks are going to be snapped up for drag cars locally. don't know what your chances are of importing them. since aftermarket joints here fab brand new heads and blocks for other engine types maybe they will for the barra but it would be expensive as hell
I've watched this channel since 2014 or so. This video is the one I remember most. The build, the passion, the result.. all too perfect. The soundtrack is literally a chef's kiss.
I live and breathe this show. Helped me with my old car multiple times, and everytime I don't know what to watch, I alleyways go back to MCM. That would be amazing to see you guys in person. Keep up the great channel!!
Trader Joe zif you lived in Sydney, Australia they hold a car meet almost every month at a track called Sydney Motorsport Park that is approximately 10-15 minutes away from me so I guess I am relatively lucky👍🏽
Oh yea, same here in Germany, I also wish they were a thing here. But I guess even if we had 'em, high fuel prices and strict modding laws would kill the fun :(
Bro not even gonna lie, straight after i watched this video i went onto trademe looking for this motor and surprisingly they are cheap in NZ ... Hell Yesss!! haha
The fact that your runs look like a sunday drive on the video is actually amazing and I guess its a proof of a well built car not "just for youtube". I'm amazed, never watched this video, but its so good
Plenty of imports (japanese and british) run drag week, they're just all slow or don't make it. allot of the daily drivers back off at 10.5 so they dont get thrown out, most of the real competitors run
with the ladder bar set up and chopped up floors they will likely end up in a HRDW class that they would not be competitive in at high 9s. If they could drop to low 9s high 8s they would be more competitive. Alot of those slower camaros and mustangs you see running drag week are running in barely modifies classes that require stock suspension, stock flores , stock fire wall position . There is a lot more to HRDW than meets the eye. However it truly doesn't matter what your time is within your class you can win by just making it through the week. It would be cool to see MCM there.
Stunning, the production is crazy good. It really is time to compete with the likes of the Grand Tour on mainstream media. You deserve the big bucks guys!
would have hooked up nearer to peak power was only spinning during peak torque .. alas it has a turbo 400 with a stall converter so probably makes closer to 700 hp if it was manual
stiff the suspension a little in the rear and lighten the front but keep weight on the front and it'll show more at the dyno, less slippage, also if there's an emergency brake, disconnect it and get rid of all pressure in it when you run it but use proper precautions since no brakes means no stops, it'll show the true power without any resistance
I feel proud and I wasn't part of the team that build it but to see the effort and the pay off truly warms my heart i love cars and I love working on them thats all I live for
Love the cresta and Benny!! MECHANICAL STIG!!! I was so happy to see this thing destroy drag week again this past year! Can’t wait to see it in 2020! Such a good video and build
Love that they ran the Barra. I've been an inline 6 fan all my life, and I wish we had that mill here in the states. I'm also a huge fan of the 2j, but these guys are Aussie, it's only fitting they use an Aussie engine. Well done boys.
yes but they also didn't even break through the meniscus that is the amount of work that goes into a project like this. Some people enjoy the extreme detail and experience/ advice you get from watching an entire build. Videos like these is what drives people to start taring into a build that they can not handle then sell there projects that are torn apart for super cheap to people who actually know what it takes to build something like this. Its not a big deal just advocating for some of us that like the 8 episode builds. However this was still an awesome video and i do see were your also coming from.
Nick R actually what I meant was that super thin layer of water that is held together by surface tension due to molecular make up and cohesion / adhesion. but either way I probably have the wrong word. but if it's the wrong word I can't seem to think of what the correct one is for what I meant.
Brian Johnson can be a bit of an arsehole tho. There was a big dollar tribute car built by some random bloke to show the boys of ACDC after a show last year. organised a viewing and everything, they didn't bother. bit of a dog move.
Not gonna lie, the stock Cresta looks sick

its like a free to view netflix series lol
MCM is my favorite car show too but bruh the most well produced car show on youtube is MotorTrend but they do have a huge budget some great film crews & editors too.
I second that statement. This is a great production, keep them coming guys.
for the budget they have, its absolutely incredible its like the ford focus RS, alot of bang for their buck...
Click bait... Came for a 10 second car not 9

Yeah, you know these guys aren't attuned to the drag scene. No one really into drag racing is going to post that they have a 10 sec. car if they posted a 9.979!

Lawrence Lentini and to think that an 80s Japanese sedan can go toe to toe with the Challenger Demon on the drag strip is incredible!
it's not a Challenger it's a SRT Demon. It does not say Challenger anywhere on it and officially is not even made by Dodge, it's made by SRT. :D
And they arent even using a massive turbo haha 600hp at the wheels is still quite tame for that motor.. imagine they doubled it.. wow.. just wow..

When it made that 9 second pass the car did not move at all. It was soo rock solid on the track. An amazing Platform from which to start.
Moog just want to say I love your music man definitely makes your videos so much more enjoyable having your own soundtrack!
This film was f***ing epic guys! The car, the editing, and especially the music. Seeing your old tricks such as Benny pulling off the bumper and Moog playing the Harpicooler was hilarious and so so cool. You guys are freaking awesome!!
thanks for the positivity mate, we have a lot of fun!
name for this beast, either Frankenballs or FrankieStein
I agree, name it Choptimus Prime
The Barra is an engineering achievement we Aussies should be proud of.
Amen to that!
2nd that
One of my all time favorite builds and shows you guys have put together. Thank you Mighty Car Mods!!!!!
I just rewatch this special every few months, still awesome!
Big, looks like a fridge, pretty serious rear end.. Cheryl is this you?
This was EPIC, 10/10, loved every second. Thank you guys!
33:15 I love how the teeny tiny mudflaps only cover like half the tires. XD
I don't normally sit through car videos this long on TH-cam but this channel is an exception! What a fantastic car and the documentary of it from the sourcing in Japan to the engine work to the music is just perfection! I've liked and subscribed! Good work mates!
love this build, and the music is madd!
I shed a tear when I saw 9.9
xXWOND3RBR3ADXx I was doing dishes and started jumping up and down in the kitchen with wet gloves on. Dont even care! love these guys!
Same here. Threw both arms in the air and yelled, then came the tear.
xXWOND3RBR3ADXx I teared up at the end
"It all started with a $2000 cresta and some mates"
and it ended in a $2000 cresta and some mates, and probably around $15-20k in parts 😂😂😂
TheGiant Gaming probably more than that!
You'd be surprised how cheap you can get that engine to do that . The ford Barra is known as easy and cheap power maybe closer to like 8-15k max
geromeskeez it was a wild guess though hahaha, i just supposed all those custom parts would be rather expensive, such as the tranny and adapter, custom driveshaft etc... ☺
it would be more expensive but they made allot of it themselves if you were going to do this in your own it woulf cost some where near that amount
geromeskeez I guess you haven't priced a full house 9" and T400, that's like $6k at least just there. Over $2500 on intake and exhaust manifolds, $2k for complete turbo, etc adds up quick.
Wow! That thing is super smooth all the way down the track. No wondering, no skips. Especially considering it’s technically a 9 second car.
If this was any other chanel this would be like 10 vids. Gotta love mcm
Talidas it would have been if they weren't sponsored by the new transformer movie ;)
Talidas what is your profile pic? U play black ops 2?
gucci mane I don't see what it has to do with anything, but its a deadpool symbol
and im sure theres alot of us that that would have preferred this to be more that one vid too
Talidas I wish it was 10 vids long...
This video is so full of heart! this kind of content can't be bought, just made by those with pure passion for what they do. We all appreciate you guys so much.
P.S. Moog, your music is so amazing, you must not sleep to produce such perfect music and make these videos!
they did a 9.9 still sayd 10 in the title i love theese guys! aint no clickbait shit
Rukia Kuchiki [1337] Rukia i love you.
Matikus Prime love you to m8 :)
Rukia Kuchiki [1337] aahh thanks :D
So true!
A real show of character, even tough it's "just" the fact that they don't "clickbait".
These things are rare, if not almost impossible to see these days.
The only way to show them that we appreciate it is just buy a fucking sticker at least.
You have to be under 9 seconds to be considered a 9 second car
I don't know how you guys do it, but every video is full of emotion and it just keeps me coming back. Mighty Car Mods is so much more than a car channel, whether or not that was the intent, you guys, the music, the narration, the cars, the editing, it all feels so pure, and its just something special. I hope one day I can do something this exciting/fulfilling with my life. Love the channel keep up the great work! Thanks guys, cheers!
I ALMOST WET MY SELF WHEN MARTY ROLLED OUT THE BARRA!!
Not sure what's the most exciting part. The fact you are showing the rest of the world how good the falcon turbo 6 is. The fact we finally seen a bike in a video. Or all those Aeroflow fittings in one video.
Lupz the most exciting part is that all 3 are in 1 video.
Lupz I'm from Canada and I really want one of those 6s Jesus it's mean as hell! Wonder how much they go for
How about the 80s' intro?
6door 6four well they stopped manufacturing them this year so I suspect a lot of older blocks are going to be snapped up for drag cars locally. don't know what your chances are of importing them. since aftermarket joints here fab brand new heads and blocks for other engine types maybe they will for the barra but it would be expensive as hell
My thoughts exactly, finally some bikes!
How much boost? Whats the diff ratio? We need a video on the specifics!
We need a longer build video! Can't get enough of MCM.
Trader Joe it is a great chance to meet them
Is this the best episode ever (showing the full modding of a car) or is it the best episode ever?! Amazing camera work!
I do not care much about transformers, so I ignored the advert, but the car itself is something
This is the best 30 mins of video on the internet. Ever. Kudos gentlemen for helping to keep the car mods dream alive.
This video still a legend for me! Well edited, nice job with that Cresta!
Breaking news: 2JZ prices falling, Barra prices rising.
wish we had the Barra engine in the US
Oh yea, same here in Germany, I also wish they were a thing here.
But I guess even if we had 'em, high fuel prices and strict modding laws would kill the fun :(
funny you have strict tuning laws but have the autobahn
George Cramer thats why our factory cars have up to 1500hp ;)
Bro not even gonna lie, straight after i watched this video i went onto trademe looking for this motor and surprisingly they are cheap in NZ ... Hell Yesss!! haha
By far, the best car built thus far by Mighty Car Mods!!! Well done guys!! :)
gregsgarage1 thanks mate. We are stoked with how it turned out.
Mighty Car Mods keep it up guys, something Aus built in JDM body it is freaking awesome to see it happen, hope Mira is getting it part soon xD
ARE YOU MAD????... The blue Turd Dammit
The blue turd will never be beaten
exactly, this car will be forgotten in a week... the Blue Turd... NEVER
I suddenly got very excited as soon as I saw the Barra. This will be awesome
The fact that your runs look like a sunday drive on the video is actually amazing and I guess its a proof of a well built car not "just for youtube". I'm amazed, never watched this video, but its so good
Get that sleeper to Hot Rod Drag Week. Running high 9s in a Toyota will shock all those Fox Body 'Stang jocks.
Plenty of imports (japanese and british) run drag week, they're just all slow or don't make it. allot of the daily drivers back off at 10.5 so they dont get thrown out, most of the real competitors run
it will gel with them cause its a "Ford" engine.
Mike Gould with a six cylinder engine no less. Forget Chevy engine in a Ford bullshit.
with the ladder bar set up and chopped up floors they will likely end up in a HRDW class that they would not be competitive in at high 9s.
In the same way its a "toyota frame"
It is interesting the term "street sleeper" has been around since I was in my late teens, I am closer to 70 now--too close. Good luck from the USA!
David Andrews your generation started some great things
BEST episode ever
EPIC car
EPIC video
EPIC soundtrack
You guys have out done yourselves
well done boys absolutely loved it...
Not sure they bat for the same team as you do.
Saw this car and Benny today at sick week 2023 in Gainesville!!!
Stunning, the production is crazy good. It really is time to compete with the likes of the Grand Tour on mainstream media. You deserve the big bucks guys!
Agreed. Since I met MCM and Car Throttle, I have stopped watching car-related TV. I do not need it anymore.
you know that it makes more then 600hp right?
it was smoking the tires on the dyno
would have hooked up nearer to peak power was only spinning during peak torque .. alas it has a turbo 400 with a stall converter so probably makes closer to 700 hp if it was manual
rwhp+wheel slip = probably 800hp at the crank
nah wheel slip doesnt take that much out of it
T1000AX true that n that was on the street tyres not the drag radials
stiff the suspension a little in the rear and lighten the front but keep weight on the front and it'll show more at the dyno, less slippage, also if there's an emergency brake, disconnect it and get rid of all pressure in it when you run it but use proper precautions since no brakes means no stops, it'll show the true power without any resistance
i freaking love when Moog plays the intercooler!!!
I feel proud and I wasn't part of the team that build it but to see the effort and the pay off truly warms my heart i love cars and I love working on them thats all I live for
These edits remind me of the movie “Drive” and I love it. Much love from the US.
This is exactly what this channel is about! Can't wait for this
thedownshiftchannel fast as fck boiiiiiiiii
thedownshiftchannel love your guys channel
Slinks21 thanks dude that means a lot!
13:55 Classic Benny shot of walking past the bumper bar and lifting it off!
EveryDayCar
as soon as I saw it was loose I was waiting for that! like how he did it in the s2k vid
Love the cresta and Benny!! MECHANICAL STIG!!! I was so happy to see this thing destroy drag week again this past year! Can’t wait to see it in 2020! Such a good video and build
About time you boys dropped one of these legendary engines into a project car!!!!
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!!!!!!!
Cameron Russell So pumped! #BarraTheWorld
Love that they ran the Barra. I've been an inline 6 fan all my life, and I wish we had that mill here in the states. I'm also a huge fan of the 2j, but these guys are Aussie, it's only fitting they use an Aussie engine. Well done boys.
Ai Moog, the retro music was kick ass, man. The VHS intro was really cool too. Radical.
Mouthbreather loved that 80's vibes as well. reminded me of kavinsky and Com Truise
i wish i can like this hundred times. music is pure magic for this episode
What I love about this channel is that they use ORIGINAL songs that I've never heard of!
Verry pleasant to listen to when driving! LOVE IT!!
That intro tickled my fancy
BEST,, EPISODE,, EVER!!! You guys nailed it again! nice to see you back!!
i never get sick of the intercooler harp joke
Joshua Hardie it's no joke. That's raw talent your seeing 😅
I even thought, this time moog is shredding some sick riff on it. I admit, I'm a bit disappointed.
KDM TRAP No, my paperwork say I'm more insane than retarded. Thanks for the concern though 🖒
Damn that synth sounds so good. All those sounds are amazing
They made it themselves, you can buy it on their store
Could not believe everything was in one episode! Watched the timeline a million times : P Best one in a long time!
thanks for not teasing us and chopping the build into 10 different videos. Inspiring build!
yes but they also didn't even break through the meniscus that is the amount of work that goes into a project like this.
A meniscus is a part of your knee. Minuscule fam, minuscule.
Nick R actually what I meant was that super thin layer of water that is held together by surface tension due to molecular make up and cohesion / adhesion. but either way I probably have the wrong word. but if it's the wrong word I can't seem to think of what the correct one is for what I meant.
Also the effect of surface tension on water: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meniscus_(liquid)
Nick R actually hes right.
6:00 lol, love the 'don't sue me', public domain, home-brand-ACDC version of Back in Black in the background.
soon-to-be abandoned username Brian Johnson is big into cars. he's been on Top Gear with one of his cars. he'd probably appreciate the show.
Bryan Miata Yeah, he's got a cool old blown Bentley racecar from the twenties, and a couple of later model Ferraris, I believe.
Brian Johnson can be a bit of an arsehole tho. There was a big dollar tribute car built by some random bloke to show the boys of ACDC after a show last year. organised a viewing and everything, they didn't bother. bit of a dog move.
Zero Cool That's kinda sad to hear. i always thought acdc seemed pretty down-to-earth and humble
i felt the same, love the band; but felt really disapointed in them after hearing about it
