  • Decided to make a video on what it’s like for us new guys out here on the road. After my first week I did some math and it’s no good 😅 it’s rough out here for everyone but even worse for anyone just starting out.
    If you are looking to start hotshotting in 2024 watch this video and see what it’s like before committing.

    Good for you going out chasing a dream. Brother is a local T.D. making $45 hour with lots of OT bringing 120k a year. But he still dreams of going out on his own. Praying for your success 🙏

    Just curious how do you pay for insurance because I'm trying to start a CDL Hot shot company and I got everything else sorted out but the insurance is the big issue is 24,000 for one year 2000 month I just don't see it being worth it to even start a company up if nobody wants to give you the opportunity just because you're new at hotshot but been driving commercially 20 years because with insurance rates like that you would have to make a killing every week just to break even

    • @truckertavis

    I’m coming up on my first year of doing hot shot. It is difficult but it can be done you just have to grind is all. You also have to figure out a method when it comes to partials. Have you ever thought of leasing on to a bigger company till your MC gain’s age! Im leasing on to a company from NC i get 88% of rate $230 a week for insurance and $35 a week for ELD and after 6 months you get to keep the tablet and equipment! I also live in the freight triangle where theres lots of freight which is extremely important, where you live is a tough area to get loads and short deadhead , I’ve been trucking since 93 and rates always fluctuate but encourage you to lease on they’ll keep you busy and trailer full Godbless and be safe 🙏❤️☝️💯😇

  • @richardoconnor7162
    @richardoconnor7162 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Your costs are higher than that your forgetting tires both truck and trailer, and insurance. You need to move to a better market area, you are running in a long deadhead zone, with low rates.

    • @truckertavis
      @truckertavis  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @justinoconnor1472
      @justinoconnor1472 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @truckertavis how much would you say you averaged after all expenses at the beginning? And do you do alot better now? Cause I estimate after all expenses I am gonna average 6000 a month after taxes Aswell. You think that's accurate.

    • @truckertavis
      @truckertavis  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@justinoconnor1472 it’s hard to say cause everyone has different expenses, different lanes, different everything. My first month was pretty good (including my 5th week cause everything I made my 4th rolled into the 5th). I made close to $18k gross. After expenses I was at about $9k take home. But there’s good months and bad months. I’m not sitting very good in my second month. Took about 5 days off, loads aren’t popping up in my lanes, so it’s slow right now. Projecting to be a really bad month.
      The way I look at it, my expenses are about $7k a month for everything so for my business if I make $3k a week or at least $12k a month I’ll be fine. Won’t be awesome but I’ll be profitable. I made $4k a month as a company driver so as an owner op making $5k a month I’ll be okay.

    Young man I admire you for trying but your numbers are wrong. I’ve watched a lot of these hot shot videos and based on what I see it’s not a profitable business for 75% of the drivers. If you ad up how many hours you spent in the truck and divide those hours by the 1850 you made I promise you didn’t make minimum wage. Remember your killing your truck and you will never be home.

      Been trucking majority of my life. The being not home is fine we are use to it. But goal is to be home every weekend. More than what I got as a company driver. It’s not too bad right now, I’m making pretty good money being new, thank God, but the equipment will be beat up and abused, a part of the job. Appreciate the comment!
