      They say a big reason that predators get a statute of limitations and short sentences in prison in the U.S. is because the government doesn't want them to kill their victims to stop them from talking. At least that's what the government claims but, in my opinion, I think they just don't care or think it's that big of a deal.

      I love that! I am a survivor of the Archdiocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. Even typing that feels like a threat to myself. Because the US is so fucked up, that we still burn witches.
      The worst part of the scandal is these men were COUNSELED into the priesthood, when confessing their sins or desires as parishioners. You have a divine spirit that is the seat of your very being which animates you and all living things. There is a good God who you will return to and at which point your experiences will be put into perspective.
      For the overwhelmimg majority of souls who have manifest on this planet, life =suffering and so I truly believe that is for a reason, and that those with the most painful experiences will have gained far more insight and understanding into this life and method of victory over the enemy than the trivial, and hedonistic. You will be among the mightiest and most couragous warriors in Gods army, fearing no evil and bringing hope and strength to those weaker lights when you transition

      @@AS-gz8oegross, we should not have to go through abuse at the hands of religious leaders in order to be “God‘s strongest warriors“ that is ridiculous. I’m speaking as a survivor of abuse, my abuse does not define me nor does it give me strength.

      @VueiyVisarelli 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      @@lmnlstes You missed the point _entirely._ Let's make it less personal and see if you can grasp the concept, even if you don't agree.
      Ever heard of "the hero's journey"? Someone starts out weak or average, but by going through trials and tribulations, they become stronger, until by the end of the story, they're a mighty warrior. That is not glorifying their suffering, but showing that people can become stronger through trials. Conceptually, it's how kids who were bullied as children grow up to be thick-skinned adults who don't cry at the drop of a hat.
      The abuse you suffered doesn't define you, but _you persevering_ is what gave you strength. Get it?

    • @matteot2810
      @matteot2810 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +33

      But that does sound like an excuse to continue to believe in a good god even after facing trauma from his church. The hero's journey doesn't need to be put in perspective, they choose to embark on a journey, they get changed. Your example is telling, the bullied person who has trouble expressing their suffering is not better than someone who cries when suffering, it's what you do about it that's important, and that comes from how others support you in those moments.

The whole part of this video talking about the Catholic church could be said about the Mormon church, too. The questions are things that I've questioned and things I'm trying to answer. This hit me so hard today and I can't thank Josh enough for this very real reaction and for his thoughts on the situation. I also very much want to believe it's all true so that I can feel good knowing there's a hell. I've interviewed survivors where I've heard the worst things I've ever heard in my life. Worse than any documentary I've seen. "What is the truth told by a liar?" It's abuse. It's power. It's evil. And it's so much more than I any words I can express. I hope any assault survivors seeing this can find new power and peace. ❤

      How could you still be Catholic? Their raping kids, but not lying? Why would you trust them? "Well they rape kids but they tell the truth about morality and how the world works." Or maybe they lied about those things, I mean considering they're rapists. You know they raped, but you couldn't imagine them lying? How can you trust what they say? About ANYTHING?!
      Or even just how easily they used Catholicism to hide their evil. Shouldn't something that's perfect not be able to be used to rape people.
      Oh and thanks for believing that I deserve to be tortured for ever. That's very loving of you. I personally think torture is evil, no exceptions, but you actually believe that I truly deserve to be tortured forever, and then you have the audacity to pretend to be a good person. Torture is bad. Just because "God" condones it doesn't change that. Torture is purely evil. So either God is either stupid and can't tell that torture is evil or he is evil because he enjoys knowing that people are being tortured for not worshipping him. Either way not worth worshipping. I would never have you be tortured for anything you do. Even if you're a murderer or a pedophile (the catholic church is both) I wouldn't torture you. Because torture is evil, serve no purpose and helps noone. I would just kill you and be done with it. But why would I torture you?! Unless their is something wrong with me. That I enjoy having the knowledge that people are being tortured because i said so. That's SUPER fucked up. That's your God. He has chosen that I will be tortured forever just because I refuse to worship people who torture people? But a rapist can be in heaven as long has he worships you? I'm a pretty good guy. Very traditional when it comes to my relationships. I try to make the world a better place for the people around me. But I deserve to be tortured because I refused to worship a torturer.
      I hate Christianity. It makes people dumber and more evil than they would be without it.

      Does it not hold you back from action? I used to believe in hell as a child when I was suffering because of another person and because I was taught that belief as a child. To me later in life seemed like the religious people sometimes were then the ones who gave up earlier, who prayed instead of doing something substantial like donating money to rganisations who do something. I mean you decide what works for you, but for me it looks like a vicious cycle. My revenge now is contentment and peace in my self, as far as I can feel it. I do not want to give them anymore of my time and energy, it is enough. I have a life to live. I rather do that. Still in psychotherapy, I‘m doing well.

      @@nanashipersonne4151 Not for me, no. I do get what you mean. I have some older relatives who would rather let go and let God than do anything substantial. For me, I would be too depressed to even think about doing anything if I didn't have hope for justice in the end. I can't fix everything, so it's either feel guilty for not being able to solve all the world's problems or do what I can and try to find peace with the fact I can't do it all and some people will never face their crimes on earth. I'm currently lobbying my country's government for more regulation on homeschooling, for example (had a meeting with education spokesperson today, and will be contacted by a journalist this week). Every day I think about the hundreds of homeschooled kids I grew up with who were abused, neglected, died, ended up in abusive relationships, passed on the cycle. As someone who has been deeply involved in religion all my life, I’ve come to realize around the time of COVID, religion started to feel more controlled & man-made. It became clear to me that I needed to develop a personal connection with God, rather than relying solely on the church to sustain my faith. I believe that’s a common challenge today. While I don’t think there’s anything wrong with religion itself, I do think people tend to place too much trust in religious institutions, which may not be the right approach. Even the Bible says that when two or three gather to discuss the Word, that in itself constitutes a church(Matthew 18:20). This is why it’s crucial to have a personal relationship with God, rather than depending solely on pastors or religious leaders, who, as humans, are fallible. For me, attending church is now more about hearing a brief teaching and study . but I’m no longer a member of any specific church. I’ve found that relying too heavily on the church can sometimes weaken faith, as it shifts the focus from spiritual growth to social structures

    He is totally right about the Catholic Church. But I seldom hear people talk about other religions and cults who have been agregious as well. I am Catholic . At one time, I bartended at weddings of a group of people who were another religion than mine. I saw and heard suspicious things that made me realize that , oh, every religious group hurts children. It was an awful awakening.
    It just makes me sad that when someone says The Church, they mean the Catholic Church.
    My ex husband never told me he was abused by a priest for about 20 years. Then, one day, he was angry about something and he started yelling all about it as he was bringing our child home from a visit. We were divorced at the time. He was a drug addict and he
    died of an overdose some years later.😢

    I had the photo plaque on my priest uncle's gravestone swapped for one that shows a simple white cross against a black background, and lettering on the cross says "Psalm 25:11". That Psalm is "For the sake of your name O Lord, forgive my guilt, for it is great.". That made me feel a bit better.

    The same issue is raising havoc in Newfoundland at the moment, where the archdiocese has been hit with a judgment on behalf of boys abused at the Mount Cashel orphanage. Recently the archdiocese listed the parish church at Portugal Cove for sale; parishioners responded by seizing the church, chaining the doors shut, and refusing to allow anyone access. The villagers have made it clear that they have no issue with the Church paying reparations to the Cashel victims; they simply object to their church being sold out from under them while the archdiocese refuses to sell revenue properties and the Vatican sits on its hands.

The two are different comedians obviously, but it reminds me of why Dave Chapelles standup has always been so legendary in my mind. Josh's comedic ability, stage presence, and writing have only gotten better over the years, and I'm excited for the future.

      The Truth that a Liar is telling is a Tool for misdirection since the Best of of Cons relies on a Truth to be the tipping point of snaring you into the Lie and make you fall for it.
      Justice is only able to make an approximation of Balance between deeds done and following judgment. It always comes after the effect and it never is able to balance out the injustice that has occured.
